Book stores like this are dying art. They have everything you could ever want to read. They buy back books and theyre not overpriced.

Horrible customer service and honestly they act like they dont care about having customers at all. was told different information both times I went in there about times for them to look at books and both times they were fairly rude and acted like they didnt even want me as a customer.

Great friendly place. Have about whatever your looking for and great prices. I trade in several books here and it keeps feeding my addiction 🙃

Let me tell you, I have been going here since I was itty bitty with my Mom and Dad. It is one of the best shops in the world, and the people have always been so kind and its such a cosy atmosphere there. I hope everyone goes to Hooked on Books, because the books are great and the people are even better!!

Very rude unhelpful. Not like they used to be. Waited forever and treated badly! Very dissatisfied! The wait came before you were even at the store to look at the books. The young man was rude. He did not help at all when we spoke to him. It was just wait our buyer will be back in 5 minutes. We had no problem with the wait for you to look through and value the books. The way they were put back in the totes was an issue to me. The fact that you put them out for me to make it easier on me to load them. Great. Except that made me have to repack every book out in the sun to make them fit so they could be reloaded. So Thank you for that. I got not one bit of help unloading them or bringing them in.On another note I have used your store and enjoyed it for over a decade. I have never been treated in that manner.So, excuse it all you want, it has nothing to do w how many you were able to buy. And damaged. Well, we would differ on that observation. Most of the were in good condition, just older than you take. Which is fine.

So many options for great prices, the staff is always friendly, store has very easy to navigate organized categories. Can’t recommend this place enough! I come here about once a month with my spouse and we always leave with about twenty books.

It was a great place for someone like me to buy some good used reading books to read. The ones that I had were falling apart. Prices was reasonable and the location was close to where I live.

Tons of gently used books, even manga for my son, and helpful staff make this an enjoyable bookstore to visit.

Well kept store with titles rotated regularly. Nice selection of rare volumes. I love the dedicated customers who come by often and converse with the staff. Some popular titles are behind the counter and first-timers may not be familiar with the layout. Staff is always friendly and ready to assist.

This store has so many hidden gems its hard to pass up the chance to browse. I really enjoyed that they had a spot for collectors and they know their inventory well. I grabbed some Dresden novels I wanted to gift to friends and some Christmas gifts. Will be returning for sure.

A good place to swap out old books for someone elses used books. Graphic novels are on a high shelf you have to use a step ladder to see, which I think is good, because they arent picked over too much.

I called today and spoke to the owner, and I cant imagine how he could have been more patient, helpful and genial. Im disabled and cant easily arrange to shop in person, so calling ahead is a necessity, but am often told that he or she has a customer, and then hung up on. This even includes pharmacies at which I spend hundreds of dollars a month.I was Hooked on Books first employee years ago, and Tom reminded me of its first owner and founder, Dale.Youll have to take my word for that this is high praise indeed, since hes no longer living.Regarding the objection that second-hand books can be purchased more cheaply on eBay or Amazon, Im sure they can, but you, the buyer, cant determine condition until youve paid for it, its delivered, and its too late. Plus, if you live in an apartment, your Amazon purchase had better be small enough to fit in your mailbox, because Amazon instructs USPS to leave all packages at your door. Two years ago I moved to an apartment complex with exterior breezeways and, as a result, have lost hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise to thieves.Tom, Scallion isnt my actual last name, so you may not recall our phone conversation by the time you read this, but I wont soon forget it, and Ill be in as soon as I can, money and trades in hand. Thank you for treating me, a mere disembodied voice on the phone, with such respect. Id almost forgotten what thats like.

Absolutely love this book store! Any time we go to Springfield, I always hit this place up! The first time we went to Hooked on Books, it was like heaven! We spent about 70 bucks and left with a big box and two bag full of books! And the finds just get better and better. The staff has always been friendly! Never had a bad experience here! I absolutely love this book store. They keep records of every book you buy or sell from them, offer great trade-in values, and provide awesome customer service. Ive tried out other stores but use this one continuously. It has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere and lots of selection. I would definitely recommend this book store to fellow book lovers!

Great bookstore. Finding treasures among the stacks is a lovely pastime. My kids, especially, love being able to discover books here. Reasonable prices, solid and shifting selection, and friendly staff. Particularly good sci-fi and fantasy section.

This is by far my favorite used/new bookstore in Springfield. The staff is always helpful and friendly, and the books are fairly organized. They have a nice trade for credit program that can save you a decent amount of money when you purchase used books. They dont have the largest selection of used horror but their fantasy and sci-fi section is quite decent and they are always adding more used books. One of the few used bookstores I can get lost for hours inside and not mind one bit.

A good place to look around and find older books but the workers were not accommodating at all. We asked a question and they acted as though we were a bother. We have not been back and I doubt that we will go back because of the service. This is a shame because we are readers and love books and probably would have been a regular customer if we would have felt welcome at all.

Always an excellent experience. They take their time to help even when its busy. And Im always impressed by the selection of current books.

I went into Hooked On Books for the first time about a month ago. Ive been back probably five times since then. Ive found some amazing titles at amazing prices. They are also very reasonable with their trade-in values. The staff is very friendly and helpful even when they have to deal with jerks who get angry when they wont buy terrible books. Highly recommended place for anyone who likes reading.

My husband and I probably purchased 10 books here today and only spent $30. Children’s classics and hardbound classics, poetry... very well organized and well curated selection! So glad we stopped here on our trip from Tulsa Oklahoma, we will be back!!!

I love books and they have a great selection. If you want a book they dont have you can have them reserve it for you if/when it is donated/purchased by their store. They recently called me for a book I put on lookout for a couples of months ago. Love that feature they offer.

Completely pathetic customer service. Selected two books today and walked to the counter. One guy working, and he was on the phone. No problem; I waited politely. And waited, And waited. While he completely ignored me. Just as he hung up, it rang again. He answered it, continuing to ignore me. He then actually walked around the counter while talking to the prospective customer on his cordless phone, over to the shelves to answer the callers question about whether they had a particular book. I gave up and just walked out, leaving the books on the counter. He never even looked at me, before or as I left.If the owner reads this (and I dont know if that guy was the owner or not), I hope you realize how this affects your business. While I like the convenience you offer, Im buying used books on Amazon instead from now on.

Nice shop with a fairly large selection. Prices are ok but many things can be ordered for cheaper on amazon or Ebay. They let you trade in for cash or store credit and get more value than cash offered.

Bought my college books for a decent amount of money and a lot less of a hassle then trying to sell them myself online. Would have basically gave me double if I put it back into the store, as a credit, so if you have some older book try to take them in a d update your library.

I liked it for the most part. The lady that was working with me and asking question was knowledgeable and very helpful. The only downside was the owner who came to me after I spoke to her and told me my books werent worth much and he had no interest in them. Then he went into a long speech about how my books never sell, and he doesnt buy those types of books, and Ive been I business 14 years and blah blah blah. The only problem was, is I was not selling them, but just asking about them after going through my parents personal effects while Im settling their estate and going through their memories. Way to take a personal moment and turn it into a tutorial on your business interests. I know you own the business, but know your target audience and dont make it about you.
