I had a bizarre shopping experience at Capital City Lumber today. I just needed a couple of boards to repair a picnic table, and I decided to stop in on my way home from work. I knew they kept shorter hours than the big hardware chains, so I got on the Internet and found a Capital City Lumber website that showed they were open until 5:30. Well, I pulled in their parking lot at 4:59 and workers were pulling down the loading bay doors like they were closing. I figured, ok, they might have changed their hours and didn’t update their website. It wouldn’t be the first time a person has found inaccurate info on a website. Anyway, I went ahead and walked up to the front door which was still open and walked in at straight up 5:00pm. When I got inside I saw the guys at the counter were already shutting things down. When they saw me walking in, they looked up at the clock then looked back at me with what I can only describe as unhappy looks. I went ahead up to the counter and told the guys what I needed, then they looked up at the clock again and then looked at each other like they were trying to decide whether to throw me out or help me. At that point I told them I had just looked at their website and it said they were open until 5:30. There were three people at the counter and they all tried to tell me they don’t have a website. I told them, well I Googled them and I found a website. Then one of them tells me there is another place in North Carolina called Capital City Lumber, and people frequently get them mixed up. I had seen that other NC location on the search list and I know that wasn’t the one I looked at. I didn’t bother to argue the point because they did decide to go ahead and sell me the wood I needed, although they were clearly not happy about it. As soon as I got home, I got on the computer and looked up the website again to prove to myself that I wasn’t losing my mind. There it was plain as day, “2501 Lonnbladh Road, Tallahassee, FL.” It had photos of the store, a map showing the correct location and listed the hours as 7-5:30. It was a fully functioning website with tabs to products and services and a thorough list of contact info including phone numbers and email for various managers and sales reps, etc. How can these guys not know that their own company has a website? If it was not their official website, someone went to great lengths to spoof one. I posted a screenshot of the website that supposedly doesn’t exist to prove that it does. To make a long story short, the people there were not very friendly. I get it, most people don’t like it when a customer shows up right at quitting time when they are ready to go home. Yes, they did go ahead and sell me what I came in for, but I think they could have handled it better in the interest of customer relations. Especially considering the simplicity of what I needed and the amount of money I was spending for what amounted to only about 4 ½ minutes of their time. I like shopping at local businesses because the people are generally more friendly and personable, but that is not what I got here. The whole experience was just weird.

Looked them up online and everything shows them open until 530pm. I arrived at the store to find they close at 5pm. It would be great if the updated their hours online as well so not to waste time.

Had to call the order in, pull up to the front and wait to talk to a person. Which is fine. Then they loaded up most of my stuff. A little confusing if you dont know how there system works. But friendly people and good service.

Purchased some lumber for pick up that wasn’t in stock and got the worst attitude from a gentlemen by the name of Felton...The outdoor younger workers provide great service. While salesman and others can have not the best attitudes... business process could be much better...

We ordered a front door with sidelights from them. What we got was a unit that was 10 inches too small. They refused to give us our money back. Tried to say we gave them the wrong specs. But I was there. I specifically told them what I DID NOT WANT. What they gave me was what I did not want. These people lie and cheat you out of your money. Do not go to them for anything significant. If they get your order wrong they blame you and refuse to reimburse you.

Best around! Excellent service. 25 sheets of plywood - delivered same day and within hours of visiting their service counter.I was in a crunch and needed same day delivery of 25 sheets of plywood. Sorry to say, I first tried both big chain retailers as they advertised same day expedited delivery, but was told it was going to be 3 days minimum to have my plywood delivered. On a last chance effort, I visited Capital City Lumber to see if they would be able to accomodate - and without missing a beat - the answer was YES. And they delivered within a few hours. They are now my first stop and choice for all future needs.Thank you very much. Saved the day.

Knowledgeable and patient staff even for us DIY novices. Prices seemed reasonably competitive to big box stores with better availability on specialty items and far better service.

Capital City Lumber is a great resource here, in Tallahassee. Their prices on lumber and hardware are overall cheaper than the big box stores. Plus their service is outstanding. Larger orders are delivered free, yes free! The lack of weekend hours are not a problem, when they are open 7-5:30 Monday-Friday.

Very reasonably priced... HOWEVER, I purchased a lumber and received lumber that was shorter than I paid for. When I called to report the issue, the employee said sorry but that I was at fault for not measuring it before leaving. He did not offer a solution to the problem.

After ordering and receiving the wrong size/quantity of bi-fold doors, we promptly returned them unused. We were charged a 25% restocking fee ($80) for our mistake. If that’s not bad enough, it took over two months to receive the 75% credit back (we were informed that CCL had to get their credit from the supplier before they would give us our partial credit), and this only after numerous calls to check status and being given wrong information about when the supplier would pick up the doors and credit CCL. Not sure how the price at the big box store compares to the bi-fold doors we purchased from CCL, but they would most likely have provided a full refund right away...and they are open on weekends.

My husband has been a client for 35 years. Recently purchased over $5000 worth of materials for clients deck. They refused to take return on 2 small post caps in new unused condition, value $16. Their excuse: it was a special order - from a company they do regular business with and from whom they keep some stock items. When I spoke to the owner he was next to rude and very cavalier when I said we would purchase future materials elsewhere. I guess they dont need our business or yours...
