This wasn’t a bad experience. I’m typically really critical of soul food not prepared by southern family chefs. The greens and cornbread were tasty, not over seasoned and not greasy. The fried whiting was just okay.

The fish is cooked when ordered. I ordered the whiting dinner. Prices are higher than local take out but worth it. The portions are large and the fish and sides were very good. I had left overs for the next day!

Food was good but it’s all about presentation as well. I’ve been going there for years and they’re still throwing forks in bag. Get the utensils with plastic covering. I can’t stand when restaurants are too cheap to do that. I normally bring my food home & that doesn’t matter but today I had to eat on the go. Especially since COVID why is the person handling money touching forks & napkins with no gloves? What is good food without good beverages? C&C? Where’s a lemonade or something homemade?

I have been hear to pick up a meal twice. Excellent both times. Catfish is excellent and tasty. Oxtails so good and turkey wings delicious. Please check this place out, you will be happy you did. Customer service excellent.

When I heard people talking about Two Fish & Five Loaves I thought it was all that BUTTT!!! After eating that food next time someone says lets eat from there Ill eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Thats better then Two Fish & Five Loaves

I always wanted to go there but never had the chance to. I finally went there. The food is delicious. It truly reminded me of my familys home cooking. It took me back to a time that I really miss and love. They now have a new customer.

Two Fish & Fives Loaves never disappoints! We have had them cater food for family gatherings, parties and even our daughters wedding rehearsal dinner. The food is always delicious and plentiful! Best of all, it allows me to just relax and enjoy the occasion!

I dont know where to start, but I literally just stopped eating to give this review...If you really Love and know your Soul Food, you are a fool if you dont try this place out..I got a little bit of everything, chicken was fresh, cispy and crunchy, not overseasoned or soggy. Ribs were juicy and tender just the right amount of bbq sauce..Mac n cheese hands down the best glad I got a large order.. Everything was Delicious all the way to the cornbread..Ohh and Celebritys with signed autographs Speaks Volumes on their hard work and dedication.Excellent Job👏👏, Best of Luck, God Bless 🙏😇

Heard a lot about this place .. Got there just before closing so we only got to try the fried chicken and lemon cake...both were very good. Cant wait to go back to try more menu items.

First time going I was amazed that even during this crisis not only were they open but the catfish sandwich was outstanding. It was so good I went back the following week for the same thing. Im not easy to impress especially when ordering anything fried, but this spot was worth every dime. Its not cheap but worth the ride!

I tried this place for the first time today and I am disappointed. First off way too expensive for the food not to be better. The baked macaroni and cheese was bland and not so cheesy. The yams was lacking in flavor, no sugar, no cinnamon, no nutmeg. The fish wa good seasoned well and the 3 pieces of shrimp was good.

Went there and ordered a family meal with 2 orders of extra shrimp and 1 order of catfish on the side. We were really endured to try this place out before we realized that the size (large) for the SIDES that came with the family meal was so small! How do you sell a meal of a 15 piece Whiting with such a small cup for a side! We ended up having to order more sides which is completely ridiculous! Had we not had the family waiting to eat we would have found somewhere else to order from. And to top it off. After spending so much money on this meal the macaroni and cheese needed to be baked longer, there was still CLUMPS of shredded cheese throughout the whole container to the point that you can separate the cheese from ALL the noodles, the collard greens tastes like they were out of the can...they no longer had any bite to them, and the whiting was FULL of bones (not a little, A LOT). BUT....the shrimp and catfish were good! (Just have to open the container when you get it to stop them from sweating.) Those are the ONLY 2 things I would order again if I EVER decided to go back.

Had the shrimp and fish dinner. First time there. The shrimp was Hugh, great taste, fish thin almost paper thin but great favor. Potato salad my favorite ( taste as good as mine). Green beans needed a little salt flavorful with a slight kick of heat. A bit pricey but I will definitely go again. Havent eaten the sweet potato pie that I purchased.

Today my husband went to this establishment and there was a light skinned guy with glasses behind the counter. He yelled at my husband and told him he could not come in there if he didn’t have a mask. My husband put his shirt over his mouth the guy yelled and told him he could not come in there. So my husband asked if they had any. He said no.

While the craft beer selection on tap is great, I found the food selection to be quite limited and quite expensive. The entrees do not come with any sides, except for the $18 burger that comes with fries, so everything is generally a la carte. I must say, though, that the burger was very good and cooked exactly to order and the fries were excellent. Given the hype about the chef, I expect better and more reasonable prices. $18 for a burger in South Orange is too steep. We will not be going back soon.

Nice to have a quality homemade tasting soul food within minutes.

The drive there was a little over an hour. Someone I know recommended the place. when we got there we placed our order and the wait of about 20 minutes. Was well worth the wait. We stayed right in the vehicle and ate our belly full. It was so delicious 😋. See you soon.

Excellent Southern comfort food.The prices are right IMHO for freshly prepared fish dinners.The only complaint I have that my pickup food was mushed into one container that barely closed. I would have preferred to have the sides and the fish in separate containers.

Good people and great food.We ordered the catfish dinner and the 4 piece chicken dinner. It was delicious. Everything was fresh, seasoned well and so worth the money. The two meals was enough to feed our family of four(2 adults, 2 toddlers).We ordered online and went to pick it up. It was a very easy process. The staff was kind and the establishment was clean.I do recommend this place.

Fish lack seasoning only good thing was scallops and potato salad. Wish they would separate hot and cold food will be a big help for those traveling home...

The fish was great the Mac and cheese and string beans were just okay could have had a little more flavor. However I did eat it all happily.

I went here for the very first time, from hearing co-workers talking how good the food is. And I eat out a lot at several diners & restaurants. And this is the first time I paid a high amount of money for 2 dinners, and one large side, to get home and the portions was like a kids meal, but the food is good though!

The food was very tasty. I ordered the whiting and shrimp, with Mac and yams. My total was $19.97, which is on the pricier side for fish fillets. The man on the phone could use some customer service, but meh💁🏾‍♀️ unfortunately I’m used to that at soul food places. The only thing I would tweak would be around portion sizes, for 20.00 a platter I expect generous sides and large pieces of fish.

The food was cooked with flavor and low fat and salt which made it very tasty.Collards, mac n cheese, and smothered turkey wings were tender and quite moist.The fish appeared to be air fried.I was a le to sample coconut and chocolate cake but also ate a sliver of sweet potato pie.Mouthwatering food and expeditious service allows one to taste test their order.

Talk about first impressions smh. I hear about this store on the radio all the time I decided to try it since I’m in the area. I had a long drive back to Poconos so I wanted to dig in on my ride home however the food was leaking all over me the bottom of the styrofoam plate was melted from I assume the hot shrimp. so I waited to get home and my FISH AND SHRIMP COMBO IS MISSING THE FISH...My fiancé oxtails literally drain through the plastic wrap they used to protect it which did no justice and btw the shrimp is super salty 🥴watch out if you have hbp. It’s over priced hbp in a unstable box.

Food was ok, not super good. Fish whitings, was fried too hard, collard greens were bland, mac and cheese ok. The corn bread was the best part of the meal but it was such a small piece (about 2x3). For the price the food should be fantastic

I’ve had a couple of different plates from here and whatever I’ve eaten has been really good! I love their collard greens because it’s not salty like I’ve experienced at other restaurants. I don’t soul food often, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. This is some of the best food that I’ve ever eaten. Portion sizes are large and prices are reasonable. Food is hot and fresh and the atmosphere is very family friendly. The employees are polite. The down side is that the food takes a little bit to come, but perfection takes time! Food is hot and is FAR from “fast food”. Love this place and would recommend to anyone in Jersey! It’s worth the drive and the wait.

Just had the 5 wings dinner with candied yams and string beans. Absolutely amazing, no lie, the best friend chicken Ive ever had, light but crispy batter, seasoning was ridiculously good. I would definitely eat here again. Small dining area so plan ahead. Great food! Everything is fresh.

Drove 30 minutes to pick up some Sunday dinner. Arrived at 5:35pm. Google states they close at 6. Walk in & was berated & basically yelled at WERE CLOSED WERE CLOSED NO MORE ORDERS”. I simply asked if the hours on Google could be updated since thats very misleading & just not good business. His reply was WERE CLOSED WERE CLOSED NO MORE ORDERS”. Extremely dismissive, nasty & unprofessional. Not at all what I expected of a neighborhood soul food restaurant.

I had fish, collards and potatoe salad. Fish was well seasoned but the collards were cold (why are they cold when I entered 5 mins after the timed scheduled)and the potatoe salad should be renamed whipped potatoe salad but it was seasoned well. Its worth another try going back.

I asked for fish and shrimp and when I got home it was ONLY fishPaid for both.

Food was pretty good... Chicken was dry and tasted old. Dont like the Styrofoam container they use...should use the containers that red lobster use. Its more safer to use..that way, the Styrofoam doesnt melt into the food! Cashier needs a personality adjustment.. Not friendly at all.

After hearing the constant radio advertisement, I just knew I had to give this place a try. Now, Im not really sure what these good reviews are based on (maybe it depends on the cook ) but the hype is overrated. My sister and I were very dissatisfied and disappointed w/our food. Even though they give good proportions, the food (including the cornbread & cake)lacked seasoning and flavor. Also, my oxtails were overcooked. I think whats most disappointing is the fact that we decided to give them a try during the pandemic shutdown. The only things worth a compliment were the fried chicken,and the oxtail gravy. Its always fun to find a good soul food restaurant in Jersey, however this place left much to desire.

The food was mediocre and the portion size was not warranted for such inflated prices. Thats a one and done establishment for me. Hence the 3 star rating.

Heard an ad on 107.5 and decided to support this business. The website says it closes at 9pm on Friday but when we arrived at 7ish they had stopped taking orders at 6pm?? Not that its their fault but we drove from Brooklyn in route to Jersey City so it wasnt a quick trip. Ok, np only wish the site was updated. Not to be dismayed we go again next day, today. Learning from Friday mistake we called and ordered in advance. The ride from JC was great timing to pick up in 25min. The fish was cooked wonderfully. I had Whiting and friend had Catfish. The sides is where we needed help. The collard greens had lil to no flavor, the yams were decent and my friend mac and cheese was just ok. If I go back since its not close it will only be for fish or maybe ill try chicken next time. Customer service was good.

Good soul food place right on 22. This is not really a dine in place because its super tiny. Make sure to order ahead of time because of the long wait time.

We drove about 45 minutes to this restaurant on a Sunday. The older man at the register wasn’t friendly, did not greet us upon entering the establishment and appeared frustrated because we were instantly aware of what to order. I personally wasn’t impressed with the quality of food. It wasn’t bad but there are places that taste better and are closer to home. I hope my review helps.

It took over an hour to get my order and I also purchased a peach cobbler which the only thing that was cooked was the pie crust the feeling was peaches out of the can with some cinnamon and nutmeg😡...The peaches never hit the oven.. the canned juice was spilling everywhere ...I expected better Im sooooo not satisfied!

I eat here often. This is a take out place with seating available to eat your take out if you chose to do so, that works for me. The food is very good, price is average and yes, the one guy does not have a sparkling personally but I dont go there for his smile, I go there for the food, sit, eat, wipe my mouth and go home. If I want ambiance and smiles I dress up and go somewhere else. If you want to sit down, cross your leg, eat good food and drip half of it on your clothes and be fine with it, come here.

This place is a hit or miss. Today April 2nd its a miss . The potato salad and the Fish is why I been a customer for years. Two weeks ago was definitely a miss also. But I said let me give them another chance today since Im off and I traveled to get there . Sorry will not be returning.

My family and I came here on 3/20/19 after the burial of my beloved Mother. We took up all the seats by the entrance. My Uncle n law knew the owner and was giving me insight about him and the restaurants beginnings. The food reminded me of my Grandmas sunday dinners and the seafood platter has your taste buds doing cartwheels. Very familiar feeling in there like the comforts of home. One thing I did notice upon leaving is how grateful the owner is towatds everyone that comes in. He said they (meaning us) couldve went anywhere to eat and spend their money but they came here. Im thankful for that. I was impressed to hear him say that. Note to all restaurant owners to remember not to take for granted!!
