Great store! Clean, well organized, well stocked. I visited this Safeway about 7:30 PM on a Tuesday evening. I hesitated to shop at this time of day for fear that what I needed would be gone off the shelves. I was so pleased to find every item on my list! I am a huge fan of the Boar’s Head deli meats and cheeses so I headed there first. The darling young woman who helped me was pleasant and energetic and cheerful. The bakery items looked inviting and delicious! The floral department had a great selection of cut flowers as well as beautiful arrangements. And lots of fun balloons! Produce looked so fresh and well stocked. The strawberries were sweet and juicy. We made shortcake with the bakery angel food cake. The grab and go section had lots of appealing options too. I was excited to find the chocolate hummus I love! Also, oftentimes checkout lines are very time consuming at Safeway, but I was able to get a self checkout quickly and be on my way. All in all I liked this store!
Hi! I’ve been there twice 5 months ago. Thought about this review since.Good store BUT, there is a staff member, Bryan. I wanted to buy a bottle of wine, and he said no, because I didn’t have my passport (I’m a foreigner). I had my EU driving license though, but Bryan seemed unconvinced by it. By the way I’m 35. He did his best, and I respect that.Good luck Bryan in your lifePS: I bought the bottle from another employee. This one was a good experience.
I cant say enough about the great service last night as I discovered Id lost my Apple cell phone while shopping at rhe impressive Safeway store in Donner Lake, California. It turns out I left it in the top shelf of my shopping cart. And luckily the very honest cart ranger saw it and turned it in to Jeanna the night manager. My daughter thought to call my phone and sure enough Jeanna saw the call and answered it. Me and my phone were reunited in ten minutes!I returned to the store today to drop a small reward on both of them but they refused to accept my gift. I thanked them profusely and met and thanked JL the store manager. In just two shopping trips to that store Ive had great service from everyone and specific stories of extra nice help in the seafood department, in produce, and at checkout. Great work thats really appreciated
It’s a grocery store. Nothing especially amazing or especially disappointing here. Prices reasonable, more things than Grocery Outlet, nowhere near as nice as Raley’s One.
Convenient groceries store for those in Truckee area. Open 24 hrs. They have good bakery items and there is a Starbucks inside the store.
Rude employees! Horrible service! My girlfriend and I made a short trip from Auburn to Carson City and on the way back we stopped here. Never again! I think they thought we were vacationing there because we were both aware that we were not welcome. Just wanted produce. They acted like we were always in there way. The checker didn’t say a word or greet us. We got multiple bad looks. I’m sorry we don’t look like we just wake and baked and or are permanently stoned the rest of our lives but all I wanted was produce to make my juice.
Cut fruit bowl half full of unripe mango that was inedible.Terrible selection of gluten-free pasta.Poorly organized store, not very much signage, making it difficult to find items.
This Safeway is one of the best supermarkets in the Tahoe area! Well stocked, great produce and cordial employees.
Sold me expired Yoplait. Have to drive all the way back now. Do I really have to check dates? Gheech!
Nice store, friendly staff.
As I walked up to Safeway the beautiful, bright, orange pumpkins of all sizes display outside I knew the holiday were near by. Looking forward to my birthday I was on mission for a birthday cake. Straight to the bakery I go a fridge full of ice cakes Oreo, chocolate & vanilla and beautiful decorated birthday layered cakes too. I had to buy a ice cream cake and a sprinkle caramel apple made to perfection. What caught my attention was the can Stella Rosa Tropical Mango a delightful drink to finish my day.
Safeway is always too busy and my shoes wore out walking around the place. Has everything.
I walked in with my vaccine appointment and they gave it to me. Great service!
Nice store going d slection.
I was disappointed with the produces most all of the salad kit were puff up do to the. I mention to the person that was working at the produce he said its alright that its ok. I feel it not..
The manager in safeway her name is Allison is so rude i was trying to go to port of subs but Safeway parking was blocked with truck and they wasn’t doing anything just talking I tell them to leave and give me space so i can go through and she started yelling at me I never saw that rude people manager for any store it was the worst experience ever in my life she don’t know what’s mean of respect for someone she’s fully loaded with attitude never want to go to your store if you guys hiring this type of people
The store is fine and exactly what you would expect from a safeway. But shopping here during peak ski season, 6:00 P.M. on a Sunday is a terrible choice. It was absolutely mobbed with people, and I felt unsafe the moment I entered the store. I hoped to make a quick escape, but the check out lines were 5-10 people deep. During checkout 2 of the on sale items I wanted to buy (pace salsa 2/4.00) rang up as 3.99 each. Rather than dispute the price, I was so eager to get out that I just accepted it.
To the new store Director,Thank you for updating, decorating and cleaning up the restrooms! ✨✨✨ You’re doing a great job — it’s the little things that count and make locals want to shop here!
Was there today and someone hit my car in the parking lot and did not bother to leave a note. If anyone saw this and got info let me know. I just noticed the large sent in my car. This happened around 4:50pm Saturday 29May.
Great store. Love their meat.
The wait to check out was over 45 minutes on a Thursday afternoon. The lines from each register were all the way to the back to the building. The lines for self check out wrapped around the deli and back to the bakery. It’s absolutely insane that a company as large as Safeway cant seem to use metrics to understand demand at the their locations to properly staff them. I can’t imagine what their cart abandonment must have been Today. I finally gave up and just left my cart.
Love this store! Awesome staff!
Has great wine selection gets a bit crowded at peak Friday and Saturday
Amazing grocery store with a good selection of products.
Very friendly and helpful staff!
Great place to shop. Always clean inside and out
Expensive, crowded. Nice staff.
Great food and drink selections
You can find any food for Burning Man!
Great variety and easy to navigate.
Its a pretty typical safeway. Lines can be absolutely horrendous when lots of tourists are in town. Even then, I dont think Ive seen all of their checkout lines open. Im not sure why Safeway installs so many checkstands when they never use them all.
Great selection of food choices and the service is always good!
Very busy store. The layout was very difficult to find what I was looking for.
It was super crowded and so busy. They were out of alot of things. The cashier was really nice. I asked her why the store was so busy at 2pm on a Tuesday. She said its always busy. I would shop early in the morning next time.
Way to crowded mainly due to a lot of tourists but it was hard to be 3 feet apart even the food there was good so thats why I give them 2 stars
Expensive...have your masks ready
Safeway in Truckee is so poorly managed. Two check out lines available at the peak time when all skiers are coming to shop. The two lines go all of the way down the aisles and wrap around to the next aisle. It’s so ridiculous. Where are the staff?? This poor service does not translate into less expensive prices.
Great store
Clean store and will stocked. Can be a little busy at times.
This is a great Safeway only time to avoid would be Friday after 4 before 9 in particular are you wait an hour in line to pay for your groceries
A lot of fresh produce. A lot to buy. Nice place nice people. High prices on all.
Great customer service 👏
Good store, long lines.
This place is both very convenient, has everything you want while always resulting in an hour in queue to get served (no, that is not an exaggeration). So if I were smart I would stock up in the Bay Area and not go here unless necessary - alas that never happens and so I line up like all the other people. :)
They could take better care of the public restrooms. That is the most important supercharger for teslas crossing NV-CA and a good stop for getting food, water and use the restrooms, but their restrooms are unfortunately in a frequent bad shape.
Nice store & good produce
Slow checkout...standard offerings
Its overly crowded. Long check out lines due to insufficient staff or inefficient processes.
Prices meh, its Safeway.
Great produce and very clean.
Small clean well stocked store. Everybody wearing masks, but 6 foot distancing did not exist. Very crowded.
Opens 24 hours, one of three safeways in the north tahoe area (two others at kings beach and tahoe city)
Just moved into the area and was quite pleased with the variety and selections available. Felt quite safe with protocols in place.
Hard to find items. Okay ina pinch.
Heard an old woman worker say really horrible things about the dumb tourists she was serving. Very surprising to see her entitled attitude and she was very ride to all guests I saw Guess what lady...us tourists give you a job!
Clean & staff friendly
This Safeway can be a challenge due to the mass of people in busy weekends, Ive heard it may be the highest volume Safeway store, wouldnt surprise me. The team here is amazing, never ruffled even though the customers might be getting agro. Clean, nice, well stocked when not overrun by people
Tends to be busy, but the staff is fast and friendly to help everyone out. Good CLUB CARD prices
Nice clean store friendly staff and a good selection
Busy after people have returned from skiing. Will have basic necessities but niche products they dont have as much. Its fine as a grocery store
Every thing that you need
I work there in 97 to 2002 and the people was nice and the manager
Best grocery store in town. Open late!
Always a great place to shop, super busy though
Fruits and veggies were beautiful. Store was clean. Really nice high end plastic grocery bags that can be reused without falling apart.
This parking lot was full of cars with passengers waiting out the snow storm. They allowed us to use their restrooms and come in and out.I also got great deals on my groceries. However the warm welcoming service was unmatched.
Im a big Safeway fan, always map it wherever Im vacationing so I can get those same things I buy at home. For that, they get 4 stars, because theyre fairly or mostly consistent. What gives this location 4 and NOT 5 stars is the ridiculous wait to buy things during the afternoon rush. To their defense, they are hiring 🙂
Life long local here! Always loyal customer place gets beyond crowded due to tourist flocking at once. Just bring patience, n know what u need and GET OUT or better yet go b4 tourism days 😊 Respect to workers especially the handful that have been there since I can remember!
Super busy during labor day weekend, but the service was still extremely solid!!
Prices are exorbitantly expensive because theres no other store around for miles. Also, you need to have a talk with your seafood department about honoring expired signage. He left up a sign that expired yesterday and refused to adjust the price to reflect what was advertised.
Truckee Safeway is always crazy. Just be ready and bring your patience. Good product selection if its in stock. These guys try their best but upper management still cant figure out staffing after years of receiving complaints.
NIce clean store, poorly stocked during covid times the 5 times I went.Expensive prices.....resort town.
The minute I started putting my large food purchase on the belt, I was told to enter my Safeway card number. I told the cashier my online coupons didnt load due to internet in the store until I got to the counter where she said there is better reception. She assured me the coupons o added while I shopped would show up at checkout anyway. They didnt. I asked if she could take off my phone number and let me reenter it so all the coupons would show up and she said shed have to cancel and re-ring up my entire $300 purchase. Beware if you use the Safeway App for coupons. Enter it at the time of payment. Not before items are being scanned.
I love Safeway stores no matter where they are. This store happens to be a BIG one in Truckee where we usually shop before heading to Tahoe. Well organized and well stocked for a busy summer weekend
Very busy grocery store a bit hectic.
Five stars for Cindy and her crew in the Deli Department. I called her from across the country to order some fruit trays for an outdoor post-wedding picnic in Truckee. The fruit trays were beautiful and fresh. Cindy suggested the deli-made tortilla chips instead of buying chips and several people commented on how good they were. Cindy made it so easy to order and pick-up. Thank you!
Prices are a little high but quality of products are always good. Lines are to long and take awhile to get through but cashiers always make ya smile.
While clean, lots of popular items arent restocked in any timely fashion during the day. I do like their liquor prices; no gouging that I saw even though its summer.Ive yet to find a checker that has better speed than slow except for a slim brunette woman on the 15 item checkout lane. She was lightning.
Good selection of vegetarian food as well as decent prices for the area
This Safeway is crazy crazy busy in the afternoon... Lines 6 to 7 people back. Store is nice but dont be in a hurry. The cashier told me that its best to go in the morning! Oh ya and the shoppers are horribly rude!
Terrible customer service. I tried to buy alcohol and, of course, had to show my ID. I recently moved back to California from working in Belgium, and my Belgian ID shows my date of birth. The cashier dismissed it immediately, telling me that she needed to see a passport. Who carries a passport with them to the grocery store?!The manager had to closely scrutinize my Belgian ID to make a determination as to whether she could sell me the beer. All of this for a man of 31 years. Are Americans the only ones allowed to buy alcohol in stores now in this country? Is this the level of chauvinism I can expect from now on?!I will never visit this store again after such rude behavior.
Employees helped us find what we needed and checkout was fast and friendly.
One of the better Safeways. It is very crowded with all the vacation travel in the area, so plan accordingly. All of the items look fresh and its well stocked. Prices can be a little higher with the travel into the mountains. Smallish parking lot that can get tough in winter.
To expensive
Your average Safeway. It has the essentials and usually the parking lot is cleared quickly after a snow storm. But when the power goes out the refrigerated and frozen stuff gets locked down tight!!! Found this out the hard way.Still very convenient.
Only grocery store in the area. Has vegan options like Beyond Burgers.Edit: Their fresh sweet corn is amazing!
This store gets heavy traffic and is never staffed to handle it. You can expect to wait in line at 1, maybe 2 registers tops, whether the store is crowded or not, no matter the time of year. They have high prices and no staff, and since there aren’t many other grocery options in town, customers are stuck with it. Checkers do their best to get it done, but I cannot help but wonder what management is thinking...ask around, nobody is satisfied with shopping here and the store is a joke around town
Very friendly
Safeway is the best. Excellent grocery selection, great prices.
Felt much more expensive than bay area safeways
Standard Safeway.. more selection than the one in tahoe city.
Perhaps the busiest Safeway and the country. Not sure who is worse... Locals who are agitated by vacation brain tourists or the tourists who are blissfully unaware. Staff do their best to manage the mayham
I love the Pollock Pines Safeway they have lots of choices in the employees are like family they have great customer service and always lots to choose from its just a great place in general to go for a sandwich or a nice drink from Starbucks they always help me whenever I need to order in an item or substitute items they are out of they always help me no matter what I need
I love my Safeway!Nicest people! Very pleasant experience.
Mountain prices, clean, good selection of fresh produce and beer
End.of a holiday weekend, very few people and it was comfortable to shop. This is not the store to go into during a holiday if you are in a hurry.
Lots of very healthy California grown choices..super duper helpful employees.
