My first and last time using this place. I dropped my block off was assured it would be done within a week. I had the deck blocked, it was supposed to be zero piston to deck clearance. It took them two weeks, which is twice as long as they said, and the clearance was .018, so if work that far out of tolerance is good enough for you well then use this place, I will not again.
Knowledgeable staff owner heavily involved in the day to day operation helped me figure out what I needed then got me what I needed
Built my 454 for me and was great until Garys towing dropped my truck off tow truck and didnt say anything and family auto body hid damage and burned all exaust valve in it. It was great until then.
This is it, fast, professional, great shop, love em
Nice joint, only problem is I never received a call back
Called to have a flywheel reserficed, he said he had one in front of me. Brought it down and dropped it off and before I left he knocked on my window and said if I wanted to wait he could get it done in30 minutes. I have a job where I dont usually know when I get off work and he accommodated me by getting it done while I was there, gave me a tour of his shop while I waited, Was very impressed with his shop and the service he provided. Flywheel was perfect. I will definitely recommend machineworks and will be using them in the future for other projects. Thanks guys!
The owner is a terrific person make you comfortable when in need for machine work.
Great bunch of guys. They do the best work in town
Machine work completed quicker then estimated. The tech Kevin is very knowledgeable and customer oriented.
Friendly and very helpful
My husband already left a review but I needed to post also..Hes been restoring cars for years and Ive never seen him this upset with a shop. Today he called to try and resolve the damaged head issue with Machine works and after talking to them he immediately called our attorney. Ladies keep your mans hobby from turning into a nightmare. keep your man away from this shop.
After moving to New Mexico and trying other machine shops in Abq. and Silver City I am headed back to Machine works for all my jobs. Its worth shipping the distance for proper repairs. They have done 95 % of all my work for 20 years and I could not be happier. Quality and attention to detail are a must from a simple rebuild to a full race engine,Machine Works delivers. Great engine rebuild service. Done 2 engine will great results.
Did Amazing work! Took a Cylinder there that I needed Bored Out and it was almost closing time for them, it was done at 10:00 AM The next morning. The guys are very nice!
Great guys. Knowledgeable, capable, good prices and quick turn around time. Recently moved to the other side of town, but I will drive across town to continue doing business with them.
This is a very competent shop with a knowledgeable staff. Theyve been helpful to me each time Ive stopped by. I appreciate that they try to come up with creative solutions in the projects that Ive worked with them on and look forward to working on some larger projects with them in the future.
I have been using Machineworks for over 10 years, very professional and are very reliable.
SO just picked up my 258 from a 7 week rebuild. For the most part these guys seem knowledgeable. Main issue is cost soared 30% over estimate without any contact to notify me that cost had increased. First indication of higher cost was when they called for me to pick up the engine. I did ask for a specific cam so maybe a $200 extra charge was warranted, but I told them from day 1 that I wanted a non stock cam. To top it off I get the engine home and am preparing to repaint it because their idea of painting is a joke. You can see the old paint underneath their obviously single rattle can coat. For a $3400.00 rebuild on an already running engine this is really a disappointing experience that I wont be repeating. Once I get this fired up I will update my review with results.Update 1 - Wont be firing this up anytime soon. Pulled the tape the shop put on to seal the intake/ exhaust surface, and a chunk of cast is missing from the head. The head appears to have been dropped while the engine was disassembled. Basically I cannot mount the exhaust header now. A new head is going to cost $800.00. Now I have to wait until the shop owner gets back in town to discuss it with him. This is going from bad to nightmare. I have restored 20+ vehicles and have never had these kind of issues with any machine shop. I usually prefer to support local small business, but at this point it wouldve been less expensive and faster to buy a new Golden Eagle stroker for my Jeep.UPDATE 2: Called the shop to discuss the issue with the engine. The owner wasnt there and someone else from the shop answered. I told him I would call on Monday to talk to the owner. That shouldve been the end of the conversation, but he insisted on blaming me for the broken cylinder head. Then he repeatedly and aggressively asked what do you expect the owner to do. I repeated that I will call on Monday to talk to the owner, but he wouldnt let it go. After the way this guy treated me on the phone I wont step foot in that shop again. I will be taking the engine to another machine shop for inspection/ repair/ documentation and leave it up to my attorney to decide if I have any viable recourse for the damage to my engine.
Cheaper than willcox
Unhappy to take my business to these guys. Never a bit of respect or consistency. More than once the final bill has been almost double the quote without notice or explanation and a bad attitude.
Matt runs a good shop. Always done right and on time. John is a wizard with Cylinder heads!
I’ve been using them for years they’ve always made me anything I bring mostly Porsche 944 parts They build me my recent head on my 944
Good Machinist, good customer service, fair pricing
Went in to get my old Datsun head rebuilt. The price quoted was very high and could not get all the parts they needed to rebuild the head. I knew were to get all the parts as I have had datsuns since high school. I checked eBay and found a rebuilt head for far less buy a builder who wants repeat business. I know auto repair and when you lie to me about what needs done I will not use you or recomend you.
Same day service on my cylinder head. Great Job Very fast turn around time. Thank You!!!
Great owner, very helpful.
Great place, with friendly owner.
They resurafed my head same day and went out of their way to answer my questions. Will do business here again.
