As a recent transplant to Tucson from Dallas, finding a reputable automotive repair shop was high on my list. For years, I had this experience in Dallas. I asked for recommendations and spent a good deal of time reading reviews.Primarily Japanese stood out, and they did not disappoint! I needed an oil change, and a tire rotation was added as a courtesy! I was also preparing to get my car inspected, so they gave me a full report on my 2011 Dodge Journey. No issues, a couple of things to monitor, and clear and concise notes came with my invoice.Their auto shop is the cleanest I have ever seen!! Everyone I spoke to, either on the phone or in person, was courteous, personable, friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I was overall highly impressed and very happy with Primarily Japanese. Not only will I be back, but I am already passing them on as a recommendation! πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

I called to get a quote to rebuild an engine on an old Corolla I have. The woman who answered the phone asked my name and I gave her my first name. She then started to insist in a very unfriendly way that I give her my last name. I said why do you need my last name she said as a professional courtesy. Then she said in a sarcastic manner for your last name Ill just put refused. What a way talk to someone who is trying to give you business!!! Then after this she asked if I would like to share my email address? Amazing, why would I want to give out my personal information to a business that I know nothing about and to someone on the phone who is treating me like a number?!! I never the less gave her my first name and phone number. She said someone would get back to me with a quote. That was yesterday, no one has called me so far. This place must do good work if they have so many customers that they can afford to treat people like this.

After many trips to the dealer I was frustrated by the costs of every type of repair. Found Primarily Japanese by a women who told me about their service in a Frys parking lot. From the 1st phone contact I could tell a good experience was in my future. Let me know what was needed with the service and the cost. Stayed in touch through out the entire process, advised on things but never pushed. Costs were much less than the Lexus dealer and I felt like they cared about my car and not my credit card. I only gave 5 stars because thats all I could give. This a 10 STAR SHOP. Do yourself a favor and give them a try, you will not be disappointed.

Had a great experience working with Primarily Japanese to do a full oil/fluids/filters check-up and solve the problem of a VERY noisy car on the highway. They diagnosed the wheel bearings as being the culprit and had us fixed up and ready to go in about a day and a half, with good communication at every interaction, clarity about what they were going to do and what it would cost, and friendly service. Definitely more expensive as a basic service option than the quick-lube-type places, but thats just how it goes with real mechanics who take the time (and pay their people) to get it right.

I have never had more fair, courteous and generous treatment at an auto repair shop, anywhere. I had some extensive repairs performed in February, and when the pandemic hit, I got too busy to follow-up on an issue that wasnt right after the repairs (alignment). By the time I got around to dealing with it, 6 months later, I figured it was too late to complain to Primarily Japanese. However, they responded by performing a full alignment for free, and Joe even drove my car over for a smog check while he had it, no charge, to make my registration renewal easy. I couldnt be happier with the service I received for my 2014 Pathfinder. We purchased it used and with higher miles, and didnt have the detailed service records for it. So when it started to bellow large plumes of white exhaust when starting or accelerating, I was truly expecting the worst. Through a mutual friends recommendation I contacted Joe at Primarily Japanese and he was excellent with addressing the issue. Within a few hours, I had a detailed estimate emailed to me for approval. Thankfully, it wasnt a devastating diagnosis, but more of a deep cleaning and seal replacement due to previous oil services being too far apart. I took back possession of the vehicle while awaiting parts to come in, and once it went back in it was only a few hours for it to be completed. And when I got the vehicle back, it was even washed --so it drove and looked like a new car! With my final invoice, Joe also noted a few other issues that he saw that while not needing immediate attention, would be issues in the future. For the first time at a mechanic, I felt like I was being fully taken care of for the current issue and also for the future of my car. Even though PJ is not my neighborhood shop, I will gladly travel from out Tanque Verde for Joes honest, expert attention.

I knew my car needed some repair work, and after getting a couple of inconsistent estimates that seemed high, I decided to take the car to Primarily Japanese for another opinion. Based on the positive reviews, I was expecting a fair and reasonable estimate. I was very disappointed with the experience! After hearing that their estimate exceeded $2000, I decided to give it some thought before committing to any work. When I went to pick up the car, I was presented with an outrageous bill for nothing more than assessing my car’s problems and providing me with an estimate of the repair costs. To be clear, this was an estimate for a problem that required a short test drive and what they classify as a β€œcourtesy inspection sheet”—nothing was disassembled, just a bit of visual inspection under the hood. In fact, there is no indication from my β€œcourtesy inspection sheet” that they even bothered to put it on a lift! I manage a small fleet of vehicles for my workplace and have gotten many repair estimates from many Tucson repair shops over the past few years, but this was the first time I have been charged for an estimate. Primarily Japanese is, of course, free to bill their customers any price they choose, but if they choose to bill customers for something that almost no other shop (including the dealerships, general repair, and specialty shops I’ve patronized in the past few years) charges, I think they should inform their customers beforehand. When I dropped off the car, no one mentioned the cost, the paper I signed did not signify that I would be charged for the estimate, and there was no sign in the shop that informed customers that they would be charged for estimates. Worst of all, after I complained to the owner, I was offered a refund in exchange for dropping my negative reviewβ€”this explains the prevalence of positive reviews for this shady company! This business should be avoided!!!

Turns out when I called to make an appointment I was told that they dont work my car, that the engine in my car is to difficult, no mechanic is knowledgeable with those cars and the only place to take it would be the dealer (but my engine doesnt need work). I called three other shops in the area and every shop said they handle the rotary engines and it shouldnt be a problem to replace my water pump ... kind of off putting to me that a shop that is called primary Japanese refuses to look at a Japanese car. We ran into a couple problems with my truck but the owner and staff were always nice and respectful to me. They never gave me an attitude and went out of their way to make sure I was happy with the service. I would definitely recommend going to these guys for your auto repair needs.

Referred to these guys from another local business One Offroad. They got me right in, fixed my side mirror, and didnt over charge (I had several quotes). I also didnt have to deal with the Honda Dealership!

If youre buying a used Japanese car, I highly recommend these guys for a pre-buy inspection. One hour and $57 saved me something like $4k in hassle and heartache on a car that looked to my untrained eye like a decent deal. They were awesomely informative and straightforward.

Joe and the gang at Primarily Japanese went above and beyond excellent service with my 2003 Subaru Forester. They picked up my vehicle while I was at work, diagnosed it accurately, and delivered it back to me the same day. Joe spoke to the shop Id used previously, and after his intervention the owner of the other shop agreed to fix the problem they had missed (which had resulted in extra and potentially unnecessary repairs there) for cost. I cant thank him enough for his efforts, and he has earned a future customer for life.

Excellent service on my 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. I was due for transmission fluid change (as recommended by others), they agreed and performed the service. They also conducted an overall checkup to identify any upcoming problems (trying to keep her alive and running well). The fluid change wasnt super cheap but they gave me confidence it was a good idea, as Id heard mixed things about transmission flushes in older vehicles. So it was worth the peace of mind to have a second opinion on the service. They noticed my engine air filter housing was disassembled, and re-attached it for free, which was nice. And they didnt try to sell me on anything else.Would recommend.

Im very happy with the team at Primarily Japanese! I started taking my CR-V there to get a second opinion to an expensive repair suggested by the dealer and have very pleased with the workmanship, timeliness, professionalism, and friendliness of Joe and his team! Theres a nice small lobby where one can hang out for quick repairs, or one can take a short walk to downtown (Toole, Congress...) and explore shopping, dining, and more!

Quality service, friendly staff, favorable pricing. When bringing a car in, I find its helpful to know whats being done (i.e. a normal service) and to point out anything that seems amiss.
