Staff was amazing! Had some papers to work on and stoped in from 8pm to 10pm. Staff was very friendly. Dairy free options! Great atmosphere. Cool mugs. Nice plants and lighting. Cool music. And friendly atmosphere, even making a few friends before leaving.
The vibe of this place is amazing!! Exactly what I want when looking for a cozy place to drink my coffee and relax. Space to work on my planner or cozy seats for reading. Will 100% return! I am sad it to me so many years to give them a try!
(Visited on 09/12/2021)... My mom and I ate vegan pastries and washed them down with pumpkin spice chai tea. We both agree that this drink pleased the palette so much that we drank it rapidly. Adding more praise to this pumpkin spice chai tea, we also say that it tastes better than the same drink from Starbucks.Shades of Brown, keep spreading the fall season with your delicious drink and pastries.
Passive aggressive barista. Sad because this is my favorite coffee shop.
Delicious coffee and love the outdoor seating. Parking is awful like it is on most of Brookside but even worse. I dont mind parking far and walking but not everyone can. Not much they can do about it but it is a downfall.
Lovely quiet shop. Fun, yummy, creative drinks. Perfect spot for studying or catching up with friends. Definitely worth a repeat visit.
Liz and Van in the morning are hands down the best. They have a super fun vibe and are so nice, fast and makes being here fun
The products are not the problem. In terms of structure, the place is cramped. Thats one place the products are to blame. But the space has no room for the amount business it gets
Nice neighborhood coffee shop that serves a variety of beverages. They have friendly service and a laid-back atmosphere, I will definitely be doing business with them again.
I shouldve taken a picture, but I didnt. They have an atomic warhead thats like a tart lemonade with Ginger & a little bit of cayenne. It is soooooo good!!! If you like a sour lemon, youll undoubtedly love this.
Great vibe and unique decorations! Would love to visit again.
Every time I’ve gone the service is always excellent & their chumpkin (chai pumpkin spice) latte is so good & available all year round, not just the fall season 😍😍
Shades is the best chill coffee place in Tulsa.918s good for studying and business meetsThe Gypsy is cool for shows and atmosphereBut SOB nails all those elements in a delicate balance. The seasonal drinks are good, the drip coffee is good. Theres cool artwork for sale that gets cycled constantly by local artists. But the best part are the staff who are consistently friendly and chill. Its the best coffeehouse to be a regular at.
The staff was very friendly. The atmosphere is very chill and the lighting is too. Perfect place to hangout/study while drinking yummy coffee.
This place has character. It is unique, artsy, and laid back. The baristas are quick, courteous, and helpful. I had a hot mocha to stay and it was served in a beautiful hand crafted cup. The owner makes the cups and all the fried pottery items you see in the shop. She even sells them for those looking for a unique local art souvenir. Also, they feature local artists in their shop as well. The one that was there when I visited is a traditional hand print artist. She makes her own extremely detailed stamps and hand rolls the ink onto them and stamps the image onto high quality paper. The coffee was great and smooth. The foam on top looks beautifully crafted and the little muffins and cookies are delectable.Overall, I will definately be coming back here.It was a great experience and I highly reccomend you stop in. Starbucks has nothing on the unique charm of this place. Dont waste money on big chains. Buy your morning pick me up here, it tastes better by far.
This was my favorite coffee shop where I studied for school years ago. I would come here, chill, work, and treat myself to good coffee. This is actually where I had my first dirty chai and was mind blown. It was usually quiet except for the occassional musician who would gettin the space with their music making it impossible to talk or concentrate. Seating it way limited weekrn indoor and outdoor seating. Not good for big groups but more for one on one with the two bigger tables for just barely 4 to 5 people. Now that I am married to a coffee enthusiast and my palate has developed, they are no longer my favorite but still offer a great cuo of coffee.
This is a great little coffee shop with some really good coffee and tea. Not o ly does it sell those drinks but there are some great food iteams to snack on as well. The cinnamon toast is amazing and 100% worth a try!! They have some good seating areas in the front and a nice quieter place in the back. I think the o ly down side of this place is the lack of parking though. Since its in this area of Tulsa parking can be hard to get without parking illigally. Keep being awesome!!!
Fun and quaint little hole in the wall shop. Every time I visit its a different experience. Good times.
The best coffee and people in all of Tulsa. Even during the pandemic, they have continued serving the public in a safe and socially distanced way. The outdoor seating is great, just call ahead and make sure there is room for ya if you plan on sticking around to enjoy your brew. Just all around a lovely little shop.
First time here and they were super friendly! The Hokusai with drip coffee and a little CBD added was a great start to my day
I love stopping by Shades of Brown to study. They have a great coffee selection and some food options from Trenchers Deli, which you should check out if are looking for an amazing sandwich. Oh yeah, back to the coffee. They have very knowledgeable barista staff who are able to provide some tasting notes on drip and espresso options.Instead of typical mugs, they offer locally made ceramic cups which, albeit poorly insulated, are very artistic and provide a unique environment for sipping coffee. They do have a somewhat large backroom, I say this because I didn’t notice it until I had been to shades a number of times. If you are in the Brookside area and looking for great coffee and treats then stop by Shades of brown. There is a Starbucks down the road, but their coffee offerings don’t compare to Shades...
Best local coffee shop in Tulsa. This place is a must for coffee lovers.
We love shades of brown! Always try to go when were in Tulsa. Great selection of coffees and pastries!
A bit pricey, but good atmosphere for hanging out. I like the music
Clever name! Very cute place, friendly staff, and great coffee!
Its ok. Very gentrified. Think I saw like a dozen trying write next great American novel. It was odd.
First time Ive been here it was really good
A very cute, relaxing, eclectic place, light jazz playing in the background, giving it the perfect ambiance. The gentleman working, Jon possibly, was very friendly, helpful, accommodating, inviting and very well spoken. This was my first time here but definitely wont be my last. Highly recommend as a chill spot, study spot a get lost in your thoughts spot. Very comfy cozy and relaxing, definitely a place you leave your drama at the door.
Best coffee ever. Worst name. Everything Ive ever had here is the best. Best Ethiopian macchiato... Best Kenyan clever drip. Theres really cool art inside, but its only available for takeout or outside seating at the moment.
So, this was the best cup of coffee Ive had in a long time. By far.
Like others have said as soon as I came in for the first time the vibe was so quiet and chill that I felt like I was a weary traveler finally getting to an inn that was my second home, the barista was really nice and really kind too so I feel like everyone there is similar even if theyre a little loud while the one working tonight was quiet, best hot coco Ive ever had and cant wait to go on a weekend to have a quiet spot to hang out and write
Good experience and good coffee, one of the better coffee shops Ive been to in Oklahoma
Not from Tulsa. But here’s why I gave it 5 starsCustomer service: phenomenal. Very friendly and helpful. They even gave us suggestions on places to go, since we aren’t from OklahomaDrink quality: the drinks were delicious and hot. They were served in a timely manner. Side note. I couldnt decided between a chai latte or state fair (their apple cider with caramel) so the barista suggested combining the drinks. I did and it was really good. We decided to call it a Chaipple LatteCleanliness: the coffee shop was clean and I didn’t notice anything wrong or filthy. It was also decorated well
This is some of the better coffee you can get in Tulsa.
Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff! Best place in Tulsa for coffee! Clean too
One of my favorite local coffee houses. Wish I could go today.
Drinks are awesome. Atmosphere is very chill and relaxed.
I always love this place! The earthy pottery and plants add to the ambiance. Nice and conscientious staff. Mask up and sit outside!
Great place with really nice staff. Cool little place kinda stuffed away but would definitely recommend trying it out!
Coming to Shades of Brown for 10+ years to meet friends, study, and of course drink coffee. The baristas are friendly and knowledgable, even creating their own signature seasonal drinks. Always feeling welcomed here. Great food and desserts as well!
Do not go here if you want a pleasant experience and friendly atmosphere. Really excited going in to show my family from out of state a cool coffee shop that I hoped would represent the great energy I get from other shops around town such as 918 coffee and others. However was embarrassed and disappointed when one of the baristas was rude and passive aggressive to my family and I for no reason. We pride ourselves on being friendly to those working in customer service especially the food industry and especially during COVID-19. The way she spoke to us from the time we ordered was like she was bothered and offended we came in for coffee. When our orders were ready I had asked which coffee was which and she replied “its written on the side” however on the side was just abbreviations we weren’t sure about. As we were waiting on our order I took my family to the back to show them the retro decor and she stomped behind us and told us to go outside because they aren’t offering seating at the moment (which we completely understand because of COVID) but the way she said it was again very hateful. Then when I wanted to order another drink before we left she looked at me and said “are you ordering again???” Very rudely, and when i said yes i would like to. She said “no go outside and get to the back of the line theres other people waiting” I kindly replied alright no problem but after walking outside I just got into the car with my family. She was rude and mean the entire 15 minutes we were in the shop. She acted as if our presence bothered her. In a time when I am trying to support local businesses more than chains like Starbucks she made it clear that that is one coffee shop i will never return to.
I consider myself a true coffee aficionado. Shades of Brown makes the best coffee in Tulsa possibly Oklahoma. Their espresso is buttery not bitter. I usually get a macchiato(not the fake kind made at other places) and it’s amazing. I get no flavors because their espresso taste so good. Hip atmosphere and located on Brookside.
Always great. Love the art, vibe this place has! Cant wait for covid to end, so we can enjoy it, inside again!
I am not one to ever write bad reviews & in fact never have. Ive been in the customer service industry for some time now and even more so now that I own my own business. On my way to the restroom, I asked for the wifi pw, then I was asked to put my mask on, which I apologized for and stated Id put it on. Well the manager would not give me the wifi password & was rude about it, after Id ordered a specialty drink. After a couple of hours, I wanted to warm up my coffee and asked the front desk server if she can heat up my drink in a microwave or ect.., and she stated, no we dont have a microwave and began to ignore me. I asked, while stilll standing there, do you have a steamer or anything to warm up coffee? and she said no. Ive never heard of a coffee shop that would allow their customers to drink cold coffee with NO WAY to warm anything up?? My whole experience was short-tempered on their part and completely stand-offish. Years ago people who worked here were atleast pleasant. SO if your rude natured and border line snobbish, than this is the PERFECT place for you & youll fit right in, especially if you like cold coffee. #no
Super awesome apple cider! Great staff and extremely friendly and helpful!
Such a unique experience we had. Coffee was amazing, as was the total experience. Love this little spot, coffee is so so good.
My go-to spot for giant cinnamon rolls and great coffee drinks. Just wish their dine-in would reopen!
The atmosphere of the building is really cozy and very welcoming. They have a lot of fun drinks and it is a nice place to meet friends. My favorite part of the coffee house is that each month they showcase different local artists work and you can purchase the art. Even if you are not a fan of coffee they have teas and some fruity drinks too. I would recommend this place for a small get together or study night. This is not a place for a to go coffee this coffee house is perfect for a relaxed morning or chill night out.
Visited for the first time today and it was lovely! The staff were very nice and helpful. The vibe was great and relaxed. I had the So Cozy made with real maple syrup and it was so soooo good! They also recycle, give the option to use a real spoon instead of a disposable stirrer, and had raw sugar. All little touches that made me love the place more!
My favorite coffee shop in tulsa. The best Chai can be found here in this beautiful place.❤️
A coffee shop with moody, dim lighting and comfy chairs and tables. Perfect for a late night cup of coffee, a sweet treat, and good conversations with friends. During the day it’s quieter and better for studying. I love their black coffee and their maple lattes. Plus dogs are allowed in the store!
Just OK. Closed inside. Too hot to sit outside. Theres no shade unless you sit on the north side which feels like an alley. Coffee was ok. Quick service though.
Friendly service and good coffee
Best coffee shop in town for students! The coffee and drinks are fine, but the hours and size of the shop are what make it spectacular. Despite being on Brookside, Ive never had any trouble finding parking. The staffing is usually a little lean, but the service is good and fast, all things considered. Ive always had a positive experience here, and the staff is fun and friendly. 10/10 recommend!
Shades is a lovely, rustic place full of character; a Tulsa classic. Its quite cozy and due to its popularity often quite snug as well. As long as you can find a spot, its a great place to get work done and the drinks never disappoint.
Great shop, even greater staff! I’m familiar with coffee bars as far as coffee bars go, and I’m always a little extra impressed by the level of hospitality, humor, and care taken by the staff there. Whether it’s one person behind the bar, or several, I always find myself comfortable with my decision to choose Shades of Brown! If I’m unsure about what to order, which happens frequently, they’re always happy to answer any questions I have with specificity and knowledge about their products. If I want something new, they ask few questions to narrow my taste, and provide me with another excellent surprise of drink or snack! As far as the product goes, I’ve found their drinks to be above par and top quality, and their cookies are my favorite in Tulsa county! The shop is a very narrow space, and on a crowded afternoon can be a bit of a hassle to squeeze through, yet somehow they make use of every nook and cranny to provide the absolute maximum seating possibilities! With conveniently placed outlets around the shop it makes for a great place to plug in and get some work done! Or if it’s a lovely day, take your choice of the several outside seating options! Though it can be crowded, remember: there’s a reason everyone is going there! Shades of Brown is the place to be on Brookside, the place to be in Tulsa!
One of my favorite places in town. Shades of Brown is a very laid back spot to study, do homework, or just hang with friends. Not super loud, but not too quiet. The guys up at the bar are super funny and honestly make the trip worth it. I recommend the green couch for studying, and the red couch for hanging out with friends.
I absolutely love this place! The beverages are on point and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Try anything in the case its so tasty. There are so many different experiences you can have at one coffee shop. Theres even a couple tables outside for when the weather is nice or you need to drink your coffee with mood.
Cozy and delicious coffee
Quaint, comfy, nice spot to engage in a conversation, hide in a corner and read a book or possibly meet someone new. I ate a generously sized cinnamon roll and had a Golden Black coffee they were both very delicious! Staff were friendly and expedient, I will definitely visit again.
Great coffee and excellent tea! The atmosphere and art here are excellent. Great place to relax or study or talk with friends. It is always full of people but not crowded.
Awesome little coffee shop.
Always a great coffee shop, I dont get to come in as often as I like but every time its a good experience. The service can be really slow when they are busy but I never mind. The fact that they take time and care into crafting their beverages for each customer is one of the reasons why I love this place. That and its local!
Love the atmosphere and drink. I had a chai. The chips and humus was delicious!
An eclectic little coffee shop thats fun and built for quiet conversation, study, or work. Excellent hand crafted coffee beverages. Hot, iced, or frozen options. Friendly and helpful staff. Priced competitively with other popular coffee shops (definitely a step above gas station coffees). I would come here so much more often if I lived closer but as it stands I only come in now and then. I would definitely reccomend for anyone who loves coffee and is looking to sit down and I will be back!!!
The atmosphere makes this place my favorite study spot, and the coffee here is fantastic. The manager is a quirky, fun person that always serves with a smile, letting you know that he loves his job. The music is set to a level that doesnt seem too distracting, and in general, this seems like a great casual hang out spot
This place has a fantastically developed atmosphere. The wall colors blends very well with the art they have displayed. The furniture is comfortable and usually very clean. The coffee is absolutely fantastic as well. The only complaint I have is that there isnt very much seating. It is a literally smaller establishment, so theres just limited space to put seats. As such, there are usually only a few places to sit, if one visits with anyone else. Other than that, it is a fantastic place for coffee.
I enjoyed coming here but my latest experience left much to be desired and I unfortunately wont be returning. My wife and I ordered our drinks and waited. It was busy, so I wasnt sweating waiting, until it passed well into the half-hour mark and I started noticing customers who ordered after us getting our drinks. When I brought it to their attention (turns out the cups were never staged) the one who took the order washed his hands of it and the one who made it brought one of the drinks out in the wrong size. This was just my experience. The coffee is good and many people enjoy coming here. But following this there are other local coffee places Id rather spend my money at.
Great coffee. I had a coco con leche and it was a flavor I had never tasted before. It was delicious. Not too sweet just enough to enjoy the coconut flavor in the coffee. A little pricey but it was very enjoyable.
I really love getting a special coffee here with a friend. The coffee is hot and robust. Pair it with something sweet for a great taste contrast. My friend and I love to enjoy our treats while sitting and talking in this unique shop. I love the decor here! Attracts a trendy crowd.
Favorite coffee shop in Tulsa. Their espresso is delicious & all of the baristas are lovely. They also have punch cards to earn free drinks!
This coffee place is usually filled with people. I would recommend this place If youre visiting tulsa for the first time. Coffee is really good. I typically get the vanilla latte, would recommend also trying other unique things like their flavored kombucha. The shop is on a corner and plenty of neighboring food restaurant. Only issue is with parking, its very limited. If you go there in the evening, park to the north of the shop, I believe its a dentist office.
Very cute, unique coffee shop. Good for studying! I was there for the first time a few days ago and stayed for a couple of hours to study for my real estate brokers exam. The room in the back has low lighting but there are adjustable lamps that was just enough lighting. I ordered a hot matcha tea and one of their huge cookies & both were good! They even warn up the cookie if youd like. I definitely recommend this place. 💕Added: the only con is that parking is limited right near the shop. (I was there on a Friday night.)
A very cozy place. The tea selection is outstanding; the coffee is okay. The drawbacks (which is a good problem for the first issue) (1) they need a bigger space because its extremely popular, especially with college kids that want to take on the world; and, (2) having clean cups is an ongoing issue (sometimes the place could benefit from having two staff members during peak hours). The staff is friendly yet also, in most cases, efficient.
Shades has been my favorite coffee shop in Tulsa since I started drinking coffee. The staff are incredible. Love talking about coffee and everything under the sun. The shop has a great vibe and the artwork is always fun and quirky. As a barista I would definitely recommend Shades of Brown
I practically live here after and in between classes. Its a really cute and quirky little spot that almost feels like home. Theres lots of different seating to suit people who came there to study or just to chat. The staff are always happy to help and are very knowledgeable about their coffees.Only thing to be aware of is that parking is very limited so be prepared to search a bit for parking!
Favorite coffee shop in tulsa. Clay is the worlds best
Shades of Brown was a comfortable place to enjoy morning coffee and get some work done. The vibe was mellow, the music moderate. Noticing the barista, he has many regulars and was efficient with their orders. The coffee drinks were the same as other craft coffee shops. Meaning better than high-traffic shops. I will be returning to try other drinks.
Nice place and drinks. The music was a bit dreadful though. Chill place for students and others who just want to have a good time relaxing around a cup of coffee.
This cozy spot has a vibe all its own. Im starting to think that quite a lot of other small shops are trying to emulate Shades of Brown.... good luck with that!
I LOVE this place, the people are great, its got a calming atmosphere and I LOVE THEIR CBD INFUSED DRINKS
I used to come here all the time, but now any time I walk in there is nowhere to sit, or park for that matter! They need to consider finding a bigger space for their business, because this is absolutely ridiculous. The only other place to park is in the private parking for the businesses next door, who have signs posted that they will tow violators.Used to be a fun, charming place, until it got so popular. Now its the most anxiety inducing coffee shop in the world.
I have driven by this little gem numerous times but I decided to give it a go. The vibes are welcoming & laid back. The wait was no longer than what I would of waited at Starbucks, my drink was 30 cents cheaper than what I typically pay & it was satisfying. Scratch that, the coffee was flippin amazing!!! The barista was friendly & efficient. Ill definitely be back.
Just stopped in to pick up coffee. These are new digs? (We actually went to the Mayo first. Our mistake....)Extremely clean interior and I would love to hang out here. In fact, we were just commenting that we need to explore downtown Tulsa more.
Best coffee in town and fresh squeezed orange juice YUMMY
I love the atmosphere at this little coffee shop! The overall style and vibes that are produced here are warm and cozy. The decoration and furniture choices are very eclectic and trendy and the local art on the walls is a definite added plus! I have only ever been for the coffee and it has always been good.
While waiting on laundry to finish my 11yr old daughter and I dropped in to pass the time. My daughter had a pastry and an orange soda and I had my usual from any coffee shop the house blend :p. Service was perfect. As far as the atmosphere goes we both felt at home and that is rare. A fun worthwhile visit and A neat experience for my kiddo.
