The prices on these books are great, and they definitely have a good selection of things I like. The vinyls are nice too. What didn’t make my experience feel great was the bathroom. One of the bathrooms had a broken lock on the door, so I went to use the other. However the clearance between the toilet bowl and the toilet paper holder was so little, it made me uncomfortable and gross, as I had to force my leg between the two. Need some definite work on the bathrooms, HPB.

I stop here on every visit to Tyler possible. Large selection, large spacious and clean shopping environment, friendly and helpful staff. I like it better than my hometown Half Price! I always leave with a book.

A GREAT store will lots of used books in many genres. I like DIY home and property improvement and SciFi / Fantasy and found multiple books to buy. Since they have a constant replenishment Ill be back for more. (Used their website too and ordered some books in series not in store)

I havent been to Half Price Books in about 10 years and was excited to come upon one in the new town I just moved to. All I can say is Half Price Books used to be a cheap place to get books it is not anymore.

I wear my plastic shield mask everywhere including to dr offices & the hospital, but I was told that I must wear a cloth/paper mask. I left, but as I was turning to leave I was informed about how my mask was not protecting others & that my air we would go around it to infect others. She went into quite a speech to me. I really was polite and left. The real rub is I was just there shopping with my shield recently, no issues. Consistency would be appreciated.

Took in books to sell, and was surprised that they take everything! The staff was super friendly and told me all about their program of recycling damaged books, and donating to teachers and others in need of books. It was quick and easy, and if I buy any books, theyre usually through HPB.

Another business that doesn’t respect medical autonomy. My wife cannot wear a face mask due to health complications. They don’t care. We drove an hour and a half to come only to be denied the right to shop. Don’t waste your money here. Go to a business that actually cares. Not to mention my daughter and I are both autistic and with my wife’s asthma at other health issues, we are all covered under state mask exemptions anyway. They should also remember that with the mask mandate being lifted, kicking people out with medical conditions is discriminatory and thus highly illegal.

Horrible gm and customer service. Some customers can not wear masks. They have seizures or other medical conditions that medical professionals have stated they are unable to wear a mask as it can harm them. The way you speak to people will take you a long way. You do realize when you are blatantly rude to people for no reason they will tell others. There is no reason to be ugly even if you are enforcing tbe company polices. Customer service is key. This place is lacking it.

HPB used to be one of my favorite books stores. Until today. I cannot wear a mask. It is not that choose not to. It is that I cannot. I was told I could not shop there because I can’t wear a mask. Oh, but I could tell them the books I wanted and they could get them for me. Um...no. I did not drive an hour and a half for this. The whole purpose was for my 11 year old autistic daughter to choose her own books, to shop for her new favorite reads. How do I explain to my child that she can’t shop because I am not welcome there due to medical conditions. Poor girl cried most of the hour drive to Books a Million where we were not only welcomed, but received amazing service. Who cares that the governor says there are exemptions for those with health conditions. Obviously HPB doesn’t.

Can always find what I want in this store

I had 7 boxes of books to sell. I called first to make sure no appointment was necessary. Girl on the phone said just bring them in. Sign on the door said they would help me bring them in, not so. I had to carry all 7 boxes in myself. Two trips with my own hand truck. Had to wait for Joseph Morra to finally acknowledge my presence to tell me where to set the boxes down. Then he asked for my drivers license. I asked why and he said because he would be paying me cash for books. Really? Reluctantly I complied. Then he asked for my cell number. I gave it to him. Then he said he had two ahead of me and it would be about an hour to process that many books. I said okay, just call me. He said oh no, you have to remain in the store. I asked why, and he said this is just the way they do it. I told him I had to be at work and cant hang around the store. No comment from Joseph. I said when I called in no one told me there were so many rules to selling books. He said they didnt say you would have to remain in the store? I said no. Nothing from Joseph. I said Ill just have to take my books back then. No apology, no help loading them up, nothing. Half Price Books is now on my never go to again list.

I’d rather take a little more risk and live in a free society than live in a tyrannical one with slightly less risk.This used book store is denying access to people who cannot wear a face mask (due to a disability). Apparently they think that by offering curbside pick up, they can get away with enforcing exclusion to those with disabilities. Shoppers beware - this store manager calls the Tyler police to enforce his mask policy. Shame on you!!

I love this store. I have to admit that the employees who shelve the books are not librarians and I can sometimes find books on one subject in 2 or 3 different sections of the store, but the staff is friendly and the store is always clean and pleasant and well stocked. Sure, I could buy used books cheaper on Amazon. But then I cant hold them in my hands and look at them before I buy, plus I have to wait forever for them to arrive. I love going to Half Price Books and the Tyler store is a fine example of this chain.

Doesn’t surprise me there are 1 Star reviews for this places attitude issue, I’ve never had to call someone out for their attitude ever and today I had to let an employee know to tone it down for enforcing me to wear a mask, please train your employees to at least be respectful and nice, not snobby and rude. Won’t be coming back.

Seller review: brought in 14 dvds today, I didnt expect to get much for them, but the offer of $16 I was given was just ridiculous! 5 blurays, 4 TV series, 5 still in original shrink wrap from the store. I located 7 of these exact dvds that I brought in for sale used on their shelves totaling $75, & I didnt see the Friends complete season set there. He wouldnt tell me what the offer was for each dvd, since I declined the offer, but I expected closer to $35, seeing as how I figured they would sell all of these for close to $140. It seems those that say you get paid .10 cents on the dollar are correct! Will resort to ebay to continue to sell my items lol!

I have a disability keeping me from wearing a mask. I have a card proving this. The manager of the store in Tyler Tx told me and I quote “I don’t care what your card says if you don’t leave I’ll have you criminal trespassed from this store”. I will never go back to this store and would not recommend this store to anyone. Remember Mr. Manager you reap what you sow. You turn disabled people away you to may be disabled one day. God does not like rudeness.

We took them multiple boxes of books (over 80), mixed paperback and hardcover in very good condition, some with prices in the $10 - $20 range (hardcover), and a GI JOE ACTION FIGURE. They gave us $40 for everything. Today I see the action figure (GI JOE NAVY CHIEF WITH MULTIPLE DRESS UNIFORMS) listed as a rare find priced for $99. They did not pay even 10 cents on the dollar. Better to sell your books in a garage sale. Youll make more. DONT TAKE ANY COLLECTIBLES THERE.

My family and I had been here before and really liked this store. My wife had been wanting to comeback for a number of months now and we finally did today. We had been in the store for about twenty minutes when a very rude employee ask me did I have a mask. I told her I did but it was in the vehicle. I informed her we had been in there 20 minutes and non of her coworkers had said anything to us. I simply asked her why did she feel the need to come bother us when her coworkers didn’t she informed me it was company policy. I guess because she felt I may have challenged her little authority she got VERY RUDE. We’ve been in Tyler all weekend and we haven’t been asked to wear one the entire time we we’re here.

Love this place! Their books are indeed half price off, although the newer releases go for a bit higher, around 15% off. Still a great deal! The staff is very friendly but wont bother you while shopping like some places. Bookshelves are well organized and maintained, although my personal favorite area is the discount section in the very back left of the store. They also buy books, and Ive sold a few here!

Nice store - if it’s open. We tried to visit on a Tuesday a couple of weeks ago - Election Day. Drove all the way down from Lindale only for see a sign on the door, at 5:30, saying “we’re closing early, Election Day, we’re gonna go and vote, etc.” Nothing about an early closing on the website. Wasted drive. Come on guys - did you ever hear of early voting? Or, maybe, go vote before your shift starts? I think something along the lines of 12 million Texans were able to figure it out. Why couldn’t you? If your hours of business are as whimsical as that, it’ll be a long time before I take a chance on driving down to visit again.

General manager very rude and disrespectful to customers who can’t wear face masks. No matter the policy is gives you NO RIGHT to treat paying customers with such disrespect. I hope this man gets fired for how he treats people.

It was my first time to this location..and 2 days before Christmas!. It was great and the employees are what made it so. They all were enjoying their day and job and took amazing care of the guests. I had a couple of questions and was quickly directed to what I was looking for. As an added bonus, the bathroom was very clean! I cant wait to go back.

I would give two thumbs down but there’s no place to do that. My family and I tried shopping in there yesterday but I was told to leave since I wasn’t wearing a mask. We patiently explained that I have health issues that prevent me from wearing a mask. Now everyone else in our group was wearing a mask so it’s not like there was hordes of us not wearing a mask. After we explained my health issues we where told, we don’t care, you have to leave period. So if anyone has health issues like asthma, COPD, Emphysema, or any other breathing issues, don’t ever stop here! You won’t be allowed to shop.

Record selection was severely lacking. Found a few Asimov, but not a single Frank Herbert. Very clean store and bags of mixed Legos helped me finish my Sidney architecture piece.

Nice store. Ever since the one opened in Tyler I am able to go more often than having to go to stores in Dallas area, San Antonio or San Marcos. Like to buy recorded books, books about aircraft and automobiles, annex music art for my sons who are collectors of music concert posters. Enjoy the later hours they are opened. Stores are near and clean. Tyler store has nice clean rest rooms. Nice staff.

Great selection. Mostly friendly staff (there is one exception in the trade-in/sell section). Some of the prices are a bit high and the rest are reasonable. Lower offer prices for your stuff but I can’t fault them for that... they have to make money.

The employees at Half-Price Books have always gone over and above to quickly find books by my favorite authors that I haven’t been able to locate. I really appreciate their willingness to help and kindness when I call. Thank you for being an excellent bookstore!

The people here were very helpful! They had the book I was looking for, which did surprise me. If you had to go it alone, good luck. This place was like a hoarders closet, a wreck of books. If it were better organized and was not so cluttered feeling it would definitely be 5 stars.

I have been a fan of the chain forever. Used to be my hang out spot in Dallas. A great variety of actual high quality paperback books for all needs. Get some paper in your hands, get off your phone, go and learn something and be frugal doing it.

I absolutely love the Half Price Book stores. This one in Tyler is a great place to shop for books (duh!), DVDs, Blu-rays, records, and etc. Its a wonderful place to just browse in or to look for something already in mind. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The WiFi is really good also. Half Price Books often has great special offers so its an easy place to safe money. A minor complaint, very minor, is that the price for selling things is quite low. Understandably because its a bookstore that resales the items at a low price so they cannot pay much for the merchandise. Still, it would be nice if they would pay a bit more. Regardless, its a great store!

The staff is informative and nearly excited to help find what youre looking for. You cannot expect to make it rich selling your books here. They will only turnaround and sell them at half price. So a profit must still be made. Yet finding a classic or collectable is still possible.

I love this place! And I love how they always have time to run around the store helping my 3 year old daughter, and me, find her perfect story for the week. Thank-you all so much.

Half price books is the best!! My husband and I go every couple weeks and find a book or two :) They also have dvds, records, CDs, etc. And it isnt just used books they also have new releases!

I love books, and I love saving money! They have all kinds of books, mainstream to obscure, big ones with pictures for the kids, reference tomes for the studious, and everything in between. They also carry periodicals, and reading accessories (like lights and fancy bookmarks). Prices are excellent for used books, which are usually in great condition. New books are fairly in line with other book stores. If you like reading, or just want to buy a gift for someone who does, this place has it all.

I love going to half price books its always fun to look around. They take board games which is a + as no one else in town does that. They dont offer a lot in the terms of buy back because everything is half price but they usually have what I want.

Went there & bought 5 books for $22. They have such a variety & the place was clean & everyone was wearing masks. Nice place.

Its nice to be able to buy high quality books for lower price that other bookstores or on amazon. They also have some video games, movies, and music too. Only problem is they dont always have the book you want but they can order it for you it just takes a bit longer.

Great places to get books

My son and I stopped in and browsed the stacks. We were able to find some interesting books, such as Uppity Women. We walked out happy and will definitely be back for more. If you are looking for inexpensive and gently used books, this is a great place to go.

Ill be honest, Ive always been fond of this chain after practically being raised at the old Bryan / College Station location. That being said, I love this store, and if it was closer to where I work, Id be there too often. While many items are obviously used, most are in very good condition, and many look brand new. The selection is amazing, and I have found several gems. Getting an amazing deal makes it even better.

I love bookstores. Discounts are always great. Prices generally comparable with Amazon.They will buy your old or unwanted books as well, just brace yourself for their very low offers. Course, they have to make a buck too.

This place was absolutely awesome! Tons of books, new and used. Any genre that you want its there. They have audio books and DVDs and comics, as a well as, regular books. There are places to sit and read which is cool too.

I always love coming here. Great staff, great prices. I came in with a reading list 12 books long, and Danica noticed me checking off my list, so she came and searched each book to see what was in store, and she ordered what wasnt in stock. She was so patient and helpful!

Great place to wander and kill some time while finding a good deal on a book. Blew me away to see a selection of vinyl, not much of that around anymore. Also surprised by the variety of items available. Could have had more books, but still had a ton of stuff to offer and really good prices.

This is the place to go for literature and novelty items. In the back theres a kids section that has items like stuffed animals puzzles games books and is decorated in the style of a childs Library. the staff that I dealt with were extremely friendly and youre able to order things that are not currently in the store

Great selection decent prices although dont bring your stuff in on weekends or any time from noone to about two its back logged all the time especially during those hours, as well this location will not take certain items such as tin signs or wall decor like other Half price book locations. Also if they say they wont take certain items but theyll dispose of them for you, that means theyll send it to theyre larger warehouse branches in Houston or Dallas and sell them there but wont pay you for them (Ive had that had on a couple of occasions)

There is a lot of great content to choose from. The store itself is very organized with different sections filled with books from that category. The staff is very nice and helpful. Like mentioned in the name, the prices for these books are pretty cheap.
