Love coming here for a fun atmosphere and great coffee drinks. In the few recent times my family and I have come here, we’ve only been disappointed. Two times now they forgot to make our drinks as they sat on their phones behind the counter. When we went up to ask about it, they proceeded to make the incorrect drinks. I ordered a caramel frappe which is a blended drink, and they gave me one that clearly had no ice and was filled 3/4 of the cup. The staff are nice just not focused on what they are there for, to work.

Heard the coffee is very good, I don’t enjoy coffee but the Aztec Hot Chocolate is always amazing. Staff is chill and down to earth, the management is very professional and they know how to treat their employees and patrons with curtesy and the upmost respect. Highly recommend going there!

The manager Zoey at this store is extremely rude and unprofessional towards her staff. Ive come in multiple times and shes continuously cussed out her employees. Not a very inviting place to be at for me. The coffee is fine, but the management needs to change for me to continue going back. I feel so bad for the other staff that have to work with her.

At first i wasn’t going to speak on this issue but after figuring out that this manager is still doing the same thing and worse i had to make my experience known.i had previously worked at this location for years, after quitting with no bad blood was just my time.i had been in one time after i quit a month prior, just to see my old friends and see how the store was doing. after doing so this is the message i get from the manager zoey (having her number blocked for messaging me) she went out of her way to contact me on another platform after asking her not to message me anymore.i sent this message to the owners because it was very uncalled for, and they told me not come back anymore.zoey is still trying to ban whoever she has personal issues with from this establishment. good luck to future employees.

They were so nice but the coffee was definitely not my favorite. I prefer my coffee with minimal sweetness so I ordered one pump of flavoring but I still couldn’t even drink it because it was like drinking straight syrup. But if that’s your thing then you might like it. Bonus for large cup sizes

I love Fredrichs. I spend 120 a month on coffee. I used to be loyal to the 42nd and University location but it has gone downhill. I have had my orders messed up. I ordered my favorite drink of the summer the Java classic and the person working had no idea and asked the person that always screws up our orders.Fortunately, Fredrichs has many locations and we choose to drive farther for a better experience.I hope somebody reads this from management. I had 700 points but everytime I load it at the store it says 0 points and loads repeatedly. I have spent a lot of money during this time and want my rewards.Why do I love this place? In the 80s I was in the military and spent a month in Italy and fell in love with Espresso. I paid 700 dollars in the 80s for an Espresso machine, because there was nobody serving it in Des Moines. Fredrichs was the first place to pop up and their HomeFire Espresso is the best in Des Moines. Occasionally, I get a Americano with cream just to enjoy the roasting of this bean.Once again, this is one of my favorite coffee shops in Des Moines.

I really wish they had a system to measure their syrup. More likely than not my drink will be too sweet or too bitter depending on who is making it. Ive asked before if they measure and at the time they said no, they just pour. Ive pretty much stopped going to this location bc I am tired of wasting full cups of coffee. I still think Frederichs in the best coffee in the area. I usually will drive to the one on 22nd St. since they are more consistent with their sweeteners.

My personal favorite coffee shop in Des Moines. Their drinks have very smooth coffee that they have roasted themselves, and their special drinks are not too sweet. Great, cozy atmosphere, and their prices are relatively low. Great muffins and bagels, and service is great!

I have always been met with very positive and upbeat vibes bright and early in the morning. Its a great way to start the day. Friendly staff and quality coffee.

I was in this morning and I am so pleased to see that they are requiring masks now! I felt much safer getting my daily boost which was absolutely delicious. My wife got the COVID-19 virus in august and is still having breathing problems 5 months later, so glad to see local shops that care. Staff were extremely friendly and amicable. This is my new favorite coffee shop, will be coming in often! Highly recommend.

This place is amazing! The coffee is always so fresh and delicious.To the person complaining about not getting served maybe you should follow the rules and wear your mask, or just stay home. That makes sense to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nice place! A true coffee shop with quality coffee and true coffee experts that work there. The latte I had was good...a little sweet...but well done. The danish I had was good as well. A FRESH pastry not a thawed frozen one like you run into so often in other shops! I wished they had breakfast (other than pastries)! Still....Ill do my best to frequent this place over Starbucks ANY DAY!!! Better coffee....nice employees...better atmosphere...

The service is excellent! With Zoey, Anna, B.B. Riley and many others. I have been a customer for 2 years plus, and have never had a bad experience. Always very polite and respectful a great way to start the morning with this team!

Used to love this place. It’s nice that they are Enforcing covid restrictions now, but even while seated you’re now required to wear a mask. Its ridiculous that I just paid for food and coffee and I can’t take my mask off while seated.. I guess it explains why no one was there. What a shame. I’m not mad, just disappointed that I have to find a new place.

You have to wear your mask at all times, even while eating and drinking. The worker came over and yelled at us because we had our masks down for 30 seconds. Then a customer came over and chewed us out at the same time. I understand being safe during covid, but we were nowhere near anyone else and were trying to drink our coffee. I will not be going back.

I have been a regular at Friedrich’s for years. They have phenomenal coffee, great ambiance, the baristas are welcoming and truly experts at what they do. With COVID in place, many businesses have had, shall I say, loose restrictions on whether or not patrons should be masked in their stores. I have been really impressed with how Friedrich’s has shown they care about the safety and well being of their customers by requiring masks and distancing in their coffee shops. This shows responsibility to the community, respect to the customer, and I will continue to show my support by always stopping by for my morning americano.

Walked in with my two boys, was not acknowledged for service other than one gal telling me to wear a mask. I was the only customer in the store, well over 15’ away from any employee, and behind plexiglass, so the request makes no sense. Waited for another 5 min at the counter, still neither employee bothered to take an order or ask if I needed help. I want to support local and have in the past, but repeatedly bad service makes me want to take business elsewhere.Edit: we returned today after a few months to give them another chance. Even at the drive through, the employee taking my order was rude when I asked a clarifying question, and when I handed him my punch card that had 8 punches he told me they had stopped doing that and he would just throw it away. I paid for 9 coffees and have no way to redeem the points.All of these are little things, but a little kindness and customer service goes a long way - even if the outcome is the same. I will not be returning to Friedrichs again, especially when there are two other coffee spots not far away that are happy to have my business.

Best coffee in Iowa! Friendly staff and customers.

I totally understand the concerns of Covid 19 and have had friends and family get the virus. That being said, I met with a friend there today and are very careful in our meetings. The staff were more focused on watching and yelling from across the coffee shop and approaching and literally threatening customers with being asked to leave if we didnt put our mask back on in a millisecond of taking a sip of our coffees. The tables are all socially distanced so we arent a threat to others or to each other. We didnt appreciate the rude approach they are taking. There are gracious ways to approach the concerns. We didnt feel a gracious approach at all and wont be back now and the future post COVID-19 days ahead. We definitely wont recommend this coffee shop going forward.

I ordered a medium latte and during the first sips I was getting nothing but foam. I opened it and proceed to scoop out half a cup of foam into the trash. I paid for a medium and probably got less coffee than what is in a small.

Love this place. Way better than the competition. Always clean and they have a wide variety of good drinks!

Excellent coffee and pricing

This location has a nice shaded outdoor seating area in addition to a cozy interior seating area. There is also a drive thru window when you are on the go. Very friendly staff. Coffee is great. If you havent tried the nitro coffee yet it is a must, its great. Nice to have a non Starbucks coffee shop with a nitro option.

Horrible time at friedrichs today. I have been going here for years on a regular basis. manager decided to be overly rude to my friend who went to get me coffee. she was not aware of the total so informed my friend to just give her the money. not knowing the total he gave her $5. she then came back and said that wasnt enough. friend gave the remainder of the amount to manager at that time. drink came out wrong. lack of espresso. I went back in to address managers attitude and the mistake. manager instead of apologizing gave every excuse in the book. called owner to discuss managers attitude due to manager informing her staff she would not remake my drink or try to fix anything. instead she said I was rude and decided to start another bickering fight with me over the counter instead of addressing the issue. sad part is....I go here on a regular basis. the way the manager and owner acted was not complimentary for a small town business. I love going to all my local business, but will not be going to this one until I know something has changed. I have been a manager at cafes and coffee shops all over. it would have been nice if she would have just apologized and given me my coffee. work harder to keep your locals wanting to come back.

Such a great coffee shop! Something for everyone here - great coffee, tons of loose tea to choose from, bakery items, and a few non-food items. The fireplace is the best part of the shop on 86th. Cuddle up by the fireplace with a hot coffee and a book for a relaxing afternoon or bring a friend and play one of the board games available.

What can I say, its just the best coffee chain around. Just try it once and youre hooked. Waits can be long but service is generally friendly. Use the app if you want to skip the line and pick up quick.

Took forever to get my order and coffee was way too strong to be able to drink, the bread was good atleast.

Great tea selection! Their drinks and service are consistently good. I love the outdoor, shaded patio in the summer and the fireplace in the winter. Its a nice place to meet up with friends. Though if youre coming to study or work, plugs are few and far between.

I enjoy the shop and atmosphere and they have terrific coffee - I just have bad luck in the drive through. This is the 2nd morning I have gotten the wrong coffee there. I drink it black so it should be an easy order, but when I got home it was cream and sugar! I called into discuss but got disconnected. Please double check your drive through orders... EDITED to update that I found the phone number and spoke with the owner. He and I discussed the situation. He agreed to talk with his staff and i agreed to be perfectly clear in ordering black coffee. In my opinion he made this right.

Met the owners after accidentally stopping by the office/roasting location on my way here and got an impromptu tour. Very kind and generous people. Great coffee and service at the shop- will definitely go out of my way to support them in the future.

I have been trapped in the drive through line for 20 minutes and the people ahead of me are only ordering coffee. Now Im finally stopped at the window, and no has shown up to greet me. Ive been here for five minutes.

Friedrichs has the best selection of coffees and loose leaf teas that I know of in the Des Moines area. They are my go-to stop if I want the highest quality, fresh roasted, freshly ground (or whole bean) coffee.Their hand crafted drinks are also wonderful. The baristas take the time to get it right whether youre ordering a latte or waiting for a pour-over. Highest recommendation.

I’m from out of town visiting friends, the store was lovely and staff very helpful. Zoey and Ryan provided speedy and helpful service. They really know their stuff. The store could use more plugin outlets and maybe dust a little more. Great coffee tho!

Beware if you are planning to work from a laptop at this cafe. Its a black hole for cell service, theres no WiFi, and there are no power outlets. The music is really loud and not good. Nice staff and yummy coffee though.

Great atmosphere and the staff was fantastic. My barista did a great job getting the sweetness of my coffee right and our other drinks were excellent as well. Would come here again. Four stars just because I had hoped that the beans would be fresher. Better than Starbucks, but still not quite fresh roasted, so the coffee suffers from a little bitterness.

Very disappointed in the drive through experience. It took over 10 minutes for my drink. That would have been fine if there was a bunch of cars in front of me but there was only one car. How do you do it in the mornings? I was there Im the afternoon. Also I asked for a decaf, the drink was not decaf.

Friendly service, and great tasting coffee. This is one of my favorite coffee shops because theres enough space, and variety of seating with some comfy chairs, some cafe tables and chairs, and even some seating around the fireplace. Theres usually good music playing too.

Staff was very friendly, bathrooms clean, beautiful deck area for outside seating under some shady trees. Highly recommend this place for coffee and a kids hot chocolate!

Very nice coffee house! Nice to patronize a smaller business where the Owner loves the Lord! This visit we ordered Grande White Chocolate Mochas- Iced. They were made fresh and fast with a great taste. The 2 Young Ladies working the drive up were friendly, efficient and not hard on the eyes! Refreshing experience in every way!

One of the best local coffee shops in town. They have a ton of different blends from around the world and a full smoothie bar. Service can occasionally be a little slow, but its worth the wait.

I make it a point to try ever nitro cold press coffee in the country and this shop has the best I have ever had. I also tried the caramel latte which was just as fantastic! The staff was friendly and it has very cozy atmosphere. Never change!

Been twice. Nice place. Limited seating. Poor product. First time I got an orange tea, but ordered a caramel latte. Second time I think I got the caramel latte I ordered, but hard to tell given there was no caramel taste and the pieces of coffee bean floating around were disruptive of the experience.

The coffee was fantastic (and they had coconut milk as an option for their Lattes!!) But the knowledge the staff has about the local coffee community (and a WORKING roster on site!) made for a very enjoyable stop on our way through town!

Poorest experience in a drive through I’ve ever had, I stuck around for 20 minutes to see at least 5 others drive off in frustration before I left, still the 4th car in line. Each car was taking more than 5 minutes at the window, there’s simply no reason for that, there are too many other options available for morning coffee to put up with such poor service.

Milk was steamed to a creamy, silk froth with leaf design. Coffee shot was high quality. Barista was very skilled at his job. Highly recommend.House coffee - 4/5. Great coffee and food items. The place has great decor. Service is normally very good, but its normally very busy. Can be hard to find a seat.

I go to this coffee shop often because its closer than Starbucks, but Im constantly disappointed. My drinks are nearly always made incorrectly, and the drive-thru has waits of 20+ minutes with only two cars in the line. The drinks are good when theyre made properly, but Id rather drive the extra 2 miles to Starbucks.

One of my favorite places to spend my time. Workers are great and the coffee is even better.

Sometimes their drinks are great and sometimes they arent. No real consistency in quality, but for the price, its not horrible and Im usually able to finish my drink. There was one time the drink was too ick to finish and it took awhile to try again, but I still go occasionally.

Im not one to ever post reviews, bad or good. Ive been going to the coffee shop on 22nd st daily, for almost 2 years. I loved everyone there. Jen, Jess, Chris, Liv, and Darren are amazing and the only reason I keep coming back. today, I found out that the ENTIRE staff was fired (mind you, 3 of 5 are siblings that have worked there over a decade) due to poor management by the owner. I am absolutely shocked that walk into a small business that Ive dealt with for years, to find out that the manager doesnt care enough about personal relationships to keep this small business going. I know MANY daily customers are absolutely floored and upset by this. if any manager cares enough to read this, you guys have royally screwed up.
