If Ive learned anything, its to never judge an establishment by its first impression. My first visit at The Game Closet wasnt particularly great. Enough so that I chose to cut my losses and shop elsewhere. Yesterday I stopped by again, at their new location, because I was looking for something specific that I knew theyd have in stock. My interaction with Richard, the owner, was great. Its very evident that he genuinely cares about his customers and their satisfaction with the products they have to offer. I look forward to many return shopping visits to get my Magic: The Gathering cards up to par.
This if a fantastic business! The staff are super friendly, knowledgeable, appear to love what they do and always appear to enjoy interacting with the customers. There is very extensive variation of games from simple to complex and truly for any age group. Ive been taking may kids there for years now and I enjoy going there at times as much as they do.They also have a gaming room and host multiple gaming events/game nights weekly.I highly recommend checking this place out if you have not.
I was recommended The Game Closet by my half elf friend Ryan. I went in to check out their selection of games and mtg cards on my trip through Waco. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. There was a game of dnd and a magic draft with a nice community of people. Much props on a great game shop Game Closet!
I LOVE THIS STORE! I have been going for about 10 years and the experience is always welcoming and inviting. Great space and unlike the other BG store in town, there is plenty of room for war gaming. The staff is always helpful and the owner is one of kindest people i have ever met. A must stop if you are a gamer.
Great new location, lots of new stock. Fantastic!
Amazing place to play magic or warhammer or even D&D. The store owners are amazing and Richard will get you anything you need (within reason of course). My favorite store by far
Nice place! Friendly staff.
Place is neat owner is really nice and knowledgeable
Favorite spot on Franklin, great tabletop community!
The owner is an incredible guy and runs the store extremely well. The store gets new minis in stock often and the selection for all tabletop gaming supplies is the best in town. Id reccommend Game Closet to all of my nerdy friends, if they didnt all already go there.
The staff is always friendly and helpful. The overall atmosphere is cheery and welcoming. This is a wonderful nerd haven to spend time at.
Great place for magic and singles
Hands down the best store of its kind in the area! Has everything for your gaming needs. I’m there almost every week buying paints.
Overall, I had an enjoyable time visiting the Game Closet. It was exciting visiting the store, meeting the owner and staff, and having some great conversations. They not only helped me out and made me feel at home, but gave me some great information for what I was looking for. Very friendly. I strongly recommend others to check out this store. Thanks again Richard!
From the moment I walked in the store was discussing and look like no one has cleaned it in months. The employee working was just sitting there doing absolutely nothing and on his phone. So i approached and politely asked him if i could trade in some of my cards he looks up and me tells me no then presides to go back on his phone.
Lots of selection. Welcoming environment. Friendly folks
I miss coming here. This is an amazing place to chill and play all sorts of table top games and card games. I spent so much money here and had a lot of fun. The staff is amazing and the enviornment is the most welcoming for all sorts of people.I myself need to start making time to go back there. Good place to meet people if you are into these sorts of things and are new to the area.
Were regular customers and often play DnD here. Its an amazing store with a comfortable environment. The employees there are outstanding and very helpful. Richard always makes us feel welcome. 10/10 would recommend checking it out
Treated me and my family like old friends they knew what they was talking about and the prices are great.
Great place to find games and associated items. Also a good place to find other groups of people to play games with. Generally good customer service.
Great staff and awesome space. Went to a Magic The Gathering tournament and had a blast. Cant wait to go again.
Great customer service as the people there took the time to get to know us. As a family we were looking for something new and fun to do together . We are not big into board games, but because they took the time to get to know us and what we like they were able to made recommendations to a few games. We will go back and have found something fun to do instead of watching TV or playing video games.
The store itself was clean and orderly, however the service was less than friendly. Someone needs to educate them as to why you treat customers with some level of kindness, a smile, etc. In doing so they will most likely come back to your store rather than a competitor thereby creating a customer base which is the meat and potatos of a business.
Always lose my fiancee and son here because they Love Game Closet. I myself enjoy watching others play games.
Awesome place! Moved here from Houston recently and was looking for gaming store. This is IT. These guys make you feel at home and part of something. They are GREAT with kids. Love this place!
Many tables for playing various ttgs. Smallish selection of D&D minis. That is the only reason i did not give five stars.
Love this place for MtG cards
Friendly staff, very helpful, loads of nerd stuff, I went in for magic cards and played a couple games with strangers, made some friends, so much fun!
First off, the staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. That may be the single best reason to come here. This place is quite large, so even with tournaments happening, there are still always tables available. The board game selection is massive, and although the prices are higher than what you can find online, they arent unreasonable. Plus, its always nice to support a local business. Additionally, you can rent over 100 board games to try out for a few hours and see if you like it. This is one of my favorite shops in Waco.
Ive been to this store a few times, and I can say that the experience differs greatly each time. Some of the staff that work there are great and can be extremely helpful, others are more than extremely rude. I came in today to buy something that, while technically is not a game, many would expect of many of the places I could have gone you would expect to find it there.I searched for about ten minutes through all of the games lining the walls and when I didnt find I decided to ask a sales associate. That was probably the worst mistake Id ever made. I waited in the mass of what may or may not have been a line, and when I reached the counter and found an opening to speak to him asked very politely about what I came for. He treated me like I was scum of the earth and not even human.Working as a server in the food industry I can understand that people can be pushy, however I was not. I simply asked a question, to which a simple, No sorry, we dont sell that here. would have sufficed. Instead he said things that belittled me as an individual, and as a human being, inferring that I was abnormal or even mentally deficient.Unfortunately I can say this isnt the first time this has happened to me at this location. If you do come to this store, make sure you come at a time when there are no one here, and make sure youre buying MTG cards, because it seems like thats the only thing they are actually interested in buying/selling.
I absolutely love this place. Over 300 games to rent and lots of games to buy. Richard, the owner, is super friendly and knows his games. Everyone that works here knows at least one group of games so youre guaranteed to get amazing suggestions and you can even get a demo play of the game if they arent busy. Definitely worth stopping by.
Plenty of space to play games and extenaive library of games you can check out. Awesome events. Knowledgeable staff; if youre looking for a new game but not sure what to try Richard is great at making recommendations. Great place to hang out with your friends and break out a board game.
Cheap, addicting snacks for a good, long day playing D&D. Love their figurine and dice selection. Lots of space for D&D and board game night. ProTip: try playing Cosmic Encounters- 60% Risk, 30% Alien powers, 10% back-stabbing, 100% fun. The staff can help teach anyone to play
Very friendly, caring and amazing staff! Awesome place to hang out as well.Thank you.
Under great management now. Good vibe every time Ive visited since. They have improved their trade in percentages by leaps and bounds. I hope they do well.
If you love trading cards, board games, tabletop, and/or miniatures this is an amazing place to gather with friends. They have a ton of a space, tables, and everything you could need. They have regular nights for all MTG, D&D, and others. Richard and his staff are extremely knowledgeable on everything thing they stock. Support your local game store.
Nice spacious new location. Lots of game tables with ample space between, so you dont disturb or get disturbed. Extensive selection of gaming supplies for almost any interest. The friendliness and attentiveness of the staff differs but never rude.
The game closet is a really fun place to play card or board games! They host plenty of Pokémon tournaments that I have attended and have given us ample space and resources. Very nice and helpful staff as well.
As a disc golfer, its great to have a local store offering a wide selection of discs and a section for used discs as well. Apparently some other customers arent a big fan of the disc golf section but I never would have visited the store if they didnt have that. So heres some proof that some of us do appreciate your disc golf selection!
This establishment provides a gathering place for tabletop gamers, sells gaming materials, snacks and drinks. The latest incarnation has ample room, and friendly service. If you want a pleasant neutral site for your D&D, Warhammer, Pathfinder or other tabletop gathering, this is a viable alternative.
Great place. Aside from one knucklehead, the staff is excellent! Richard is cool and very helpful. PLAY HERE!!!
Love this place. Want buy or sell games, or cards this is the place to go. Want play games with others or even compete, check this place out! On a budget but wanna do some shopping, theyll give you a good reasonable price.
This place was amazing! Great selection of board games to play in house and very large selection of board games and miniature games to buy. Visited from out of town and the staff was super accommodating. This is going to be a shop I stop in Every time I drive through Waco.
Really nice and well organized store. Employees where very kind and knowledgeable!
Fun place to chill out if your into any card game or role playing. I personally love to go do d&d here. Has a selection of snacks and sodas along with all the essential play gear.
Wonderful space with tons of games to enjoy. Lots of opportunity for community.
The owner, Richard, is super friendly and VERY knowledgeable about board games. This is a great place for groups and they have really great prices to play their demo board games (and they have a ton!) You pay one entry fee (per day) for the whole group and you are free to play as many games as youd like as often as you want. They also have drinks, snacks and frozen food items that you can microwave.
I play D&D here every week and its a great atmosphere. Richard (the owner) is a great guy along with all his employees.
Staff was very helpful. Good environment. Great variety in products available for sale. Will definitely be back.
Ive been to dozens of game stores in my time, and I have never felt so warmly welcomed as I did here. Drove 2 hours to meet a friend for a board game day and it was an absolute blast. We will be going back regularly.
I loved this place. Went for a pre-release of the new magic cards. It has a cool vibe, cool set up, and the head guy is a really cool dude! Definitely check it out!
Fantastic place for social gaming. Im so glad to see them growing the store size and the events. Ive worked with the owner on some projects... hes a quality guy caring for the community. Keep up the great work.
The Pokemon crowd Sunday afternoons is always warm and welcoming. We would never miss it. Great place to play and they always have the best selection of cards and games. Plenty of room to play and they have snacks!
Your FLGS. Good place, great staff, and great selection. Richard makes a point to speak to everyone that comes in. He remembers me every time, and makes recommendations every time I go in. Super friendly atmosphere makes me truly enjoy going back every time.
This is a great place to introduce your kids to people and games all at the same time. Lots of games for them to try out and play. Everyone is super helpful.
Have had a great time every time Ive gone. Richard and his staff treat us well, and have done a good job welcoming us into the community. Thank you guys for what you do!
The Game Closet is a wonderful friendly local game store. Their selection of games is large and varied, and the prices are on-par. While not the coziest space, The Game Closet is quite spacious and outfitted with enough tables and chairs to accommodate groups of nearly any size. They host regular events, including both casual play sessions, and official tournaments. Additionally, guests are welcome to bring their own games and play with friends. For customers who care to try before buying, there is an extensive library of games to rent and play in-store, including some rare and out-of-print gems. The birthday party package includes unlimited library access for you and your guests. There is a monthly event where homeschool families gather to play games, including free access to the library. As though that wasnt enough, the store owner, Richard Banana, who is clearly passionate about gaming and the gaming community, is also among the friendliest and most helpful folks that you will ever meet. Over the course of my many visits, he has learned my gaming preferences, and now every time I enter the store, he approaches me with a new recommendation which is usually spot-on. If you enjoy board games, do yourself a favor and check out The Game Closet. It will not disappoint you.
A friendly and clean atmosphere often lacking in game stores, combined with an overabundance of room in a hobby that is frequently marked by overcrowded, smelly environments makes a great place either to shop for your gaming needs, or participate in any kind of war game, boardgame, or RPG you could want. A great gaming destination.
Nice place. friendly people. We came from Dallas and they treated us like we were home. Thanks guys. We will be back next season for pptq.
I have been going to The Game Closet for nearly ten years now. They foster a wonderful community, and always have a wide selection of games and gear-and if theyre missing anything, theyll order it for you. I love this place!
Fun atmosphere, great way to meet people and learn all types of games. Very friendly and knowledgable staff.
Friendly atmosphere and games galore are what youll find at The Game Closet. If you like board games, tabletop games, and card games, you owe it to yourself to check out The Game Closet.
Great place for tabletop gaming, as well as all sorts of card games. Try free to play games from the shelves, scope out all the books and minis, and make sure to check the gaming calender to see whats going on. Personally a one stop shop for D&D players!
Open tournaments. Lots of board game play. Fun. Compete against others
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Lots of play space and a great community. Special shout out to Ursa Squadron and the X-Wing guys.
Great place to game and visit with friends. Amazing variety of games in the library. Employees are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Great place to hang out with friends. Very reasonable prices on trading cards, accesories and board games. Rent games or bring your own to play.
Always fun, and got some great deals on some hordes figures!
Fun place to be a nerd. Or if you just want to play a game.
I used to play yugioh at the old location and I came back for their MTG events. I went in to check out the tournament and play casual with my friends. All the tables were packed so we set up at some tables in the front. One of the (what I believe to be) employees told us to set up else where so the miniatures players could play there if they showed up. Its really good to see that the employees value all groups of players, not just the mtg ones. Im glad he told me instead of an angry X-Wings player.Overall the staff was just really cool to be around. They had solid advice about the game and were very helpful when it came to magic. If youre a beginner to the Magic seen, know that the competitive seen is pretty intense given that GC is pretty much the only card shop in Waco. Being a beginner will earn you the title of almost an annoyance to some of the players, but there are a few silver linings to the community. Given the surplus of cards most of the players own, theyre quite generous if youre in need of certain cards or accessories (card sleeves and such)Overall the game closet is a great place to meet people of similar interests and buy singles. Genuinely friendly staff and a very strong community make this place THE card shop of Waco.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. With a wide verity of games to buy and rent. Welcoming to the whole family.
Great place to buy and play a huge variety of games (not video). You can rent games by the hour as well
These people are pretty much terrible and ignorant. Id like to buy stuff from them but the owner and the employees are rude to the point of boundless stupidity. I went in to buy 22 sets for my sons birthday party but the service was so uninspired and downright rude that I walked out. Dont know how they are still in business. Would give 0 stars if I could to offset their fake positive reviews
Large store with plenty of space for all sorts of games to be played.
Owner is a trip. This place is not for the average gamer. If your not straight hard core then the dude that owns it couldnt care less about you. The vibe is very clicky. If you are one of them they will talk with you if not then just leave and go to Kings Landing.
There is a great selection of games and I had a great time at a Kill Team tournament.
Great place to hang out and play a new or old board game with your friends or family. Helpful and friendly staff.
This place has a fairly good selection of games. They also have a lot of th e games to try before you buy. If they dont have it they will order it.
Nice place to get together and play games
The best gaming hangout in Waco! The new owner is really involved with his customers and loves to chat and show off neat things. Also awesome: for Warhammer/figurine painters, they have palletes for use so you can just hang out and paint!
Board games of every kind for only $3 a piece with unlimited plays per game. That is a wonderful price for a touch of nostalgia and fun.
Only place to play Magic in Waco, which is sad because the staff is just awful. One guy is too pushy at selling you whatever you may be looking at. One guy is weird, quiet, and never makes eye contact when you look at him. One guy is not quite mean, but definitely far from friendly.Their trade in prices are worst than Gamestop on a bad day, and their prices are pushing the high end of the spectrum.
My wife and I are in the process of moving to Waco and came across The Game Closet when looking for rental homes in the area. They were so nice to us and made us feel right at home in the store. They taught us Onitama and we had a blast. We talked games and I learned about a few games I had never played but now look forward to learning. Weve been to a lot of game stores and this was the best environment by far. We cant wait until we move so we can hangout at this store. See you guys in June! 10/10.
I come here to play D&D weekly, one of my favorite places.
Great atmosphere with accommodating staff and friendly faces!
The atmosphere is great, the owner is super nice, and the employees are very helpful! We always go to game closet with our friends!
Reasonable prices on board games and such, has a pretty high turn out for events and get togethers. Has a nice, friendly feel.
Went into this store to look for warhammer miniatures, asked a staff member if there were toilets to use and he was very rude to me. After he finally pointed them out I walked off in that direction and he shouted at well maybe not! Do we have a problem?! I expect more friendly service when I go to a store and this being one of my first forays into this hobby yall really turned me off the whole idea.
The store owner is almost never there, and when he is he is very rude and alienates new customers. On top of that he is actively pushing out magic, board game, and table top players who funded his store for years for the disc golf crowd. Yeah, it makes sense right? His prices are at or above retail and often takes longer to arrive in store than simply ordering it online, which is 30% cheaper. I cannot recommend even buying cheap things from this store as the owner is only getting worse with time. He doesnt deserve any of the customers he has. Avoid this story, buy online instead.
If you like magic the Gathering or Pokemon this is your best spot to go they also do board games
Cool place to nerd out. Theyve got all the board games and card games.
Richard is a great owner and all the employees are friendly and knowledgeable. Its a great place to hang out and play games.
The game closet was fun and cool wide variety of games and excellent customer service me and my family tried sushi go and loved it so much we bought it !
Great store, friendly staff, and good competition.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff are always looking out for ways to enhance the local community.
Fun and friendly atmosphere. Love this place.
Although their inventory may not be as big as a Dragons Lair or big name store, the store owner does attempt to keep well stocked and tries to get involved in all the gaming groups. Any problems I have had with the store can usually be talked out with the owner. He also makes an attempt to stay active in conversations on our game group for Heroclix/Dice Masters on Facebook (not affiliated with the store) and is more than apologetic when things go wrong, even when its not his fault. Overall, its a good store and great place to meet gamers.PS: Although I admit I have questioned the manner in which I have been treated sometimes at Game Closet by other employees, I dont think I have every been treated rudely. I do admit some employees do not come off as being overly social but dont confuse that with being rude.
Great place to play dungeon and dragons
Im new to the area and the first thing I did was check out the local gaming scene. This place is pretty cool with a large space for gamers. There seems to be a fairly large group of dedicated gamers too for whatever your preferred game is from DnD to Warhammer. My only gripe has to be with some of the staff though. I was brushed off multiple times when I tried to ask questions about the store and overall treated like I was an annoyance.
