A radiant heater by design warms the objects in shop, it does not blow or circulate air like a Forced Air Furnace. In all cases of Fuel Fired Appliances, when operated for first time, whatever protective coating that is on burner surface will give off a slight odor, no matter a Radiant Tube Heater or a Bryant or Lennox 97%, stainless steel heat exchanger. What ever odors or chemical smells, they are originating from your shop. Check your Material Safety Data Sheets for products you use and observe ventilation guidelines.
