I’ve been to right many chocolate shops and this one was just okay. They did have a decent selection. I always look to see if they have Icelandic chocolate bars and this place did. I took my time and selected a few items. I was surprised at my total but good chocolate is a little pricey. I enjoyed the curry coconut truffle and the lavender caramel chocolate. The other ones were kind of blah. The espresso bar was very tasty and the intense 95% dark with ginger was complex and truly unique. Loved it. Haven’t touched the pyramid yet but plan to next weekend. Staff member was friendly.
My boyfriend surprised me with beautifully decorated chocolates from here for my birthday, and they were so amazing that I was compelled to find them on Google to leave them a review!!! He ordered a random assortment and only instructed them to not put caramel in the box. The message was to say, Happy Birthday, Ladybug (his pet name for me). They followed his instructions exactly, and in the center of the assortment, was a truffle painted like a ladybug, called a Ladybug Praline!!! Not only that, but my bf is English and I noticed they added a truffle called London Fog which tasted like a very mild tea and was absolutely delicious!!!! I just loved that they took the time to be so thoughtful!!! 🥰 And the chocolate itself... I mean we did just come back from Iceland, and WOW!!! I thought I had been spoiled and would not like American chocolates again for a long time, but these chocolates, though they tasted differently, the quality was on par with the best chocolates Ive ever had in my life!!! Thats including many European chocolates!!! THIS is now my new go-to when I need to give a unique gift... or just want to indulge myself, because WOW!!! This place is amazing!!! LOVE IT!!!!
Cute little store that delivers on its modest ambitions. The store is basically just premium chocolate bars from around the world at significant price premium. as long as you know that going in, its a great experience. The woman working there was very nice and helped me pick some nice gifts.
A must see shop! The owners were so kind and helpful, they made chocolate shopping an awesome experience. All the chocolates we purchased were absolutely delicious. It’s a small shop but it’s so worth taking a stop to check it out. They just started serving ice cream as well and the ice cream was so good, omg!! If you haven’t given them a visit, I highly recommend you do!
The lady working there that day was super friendly and helpful. They have truffles from various vendors, which increases variety. We picked a few truffles to try and were not disappointed. Solid quality. Will come back soon to try a few more.
Good selection, outrageously high prices. See the attached photo: I bought the same chocolate, within 20 mins of each other: One for $13.30 and the second for $9.00. The first one is from the chocolate house and the second one is from our local store in mount pleasant.I know we should support small businesses and I am happy to pay a premium to do that, but when that premium means that I’m paying 70% more $ for the same product, that is more than what I’m willing to pay for - all the more given that the store in our neighborhood is also a small business.
Ive loved Chocolate House for years. It keeps getting better, too. More choices and now 5 flavors of chocolate ice cream. And they will create customized tasting classes online (for now).
Amazing chocolate choices from around the world make this shop very unique. The staff are super knowledgeable and take time with each customer. The merchandise is over priced or at least more costly than one would expect. Asking for a good dark chocolate bar without being too costly the sales associate offer us two bars at $10 and $12. These were modest sized. The one we bought was amazing but perhaps some more approachable wares might be worth adding. Great chocolate doesn’t have to be crazy expensive. The variety and shop set up was very clean and well organized.
The chocolates here are delicious and the service is fast. The woman behind the counter was very patient with me while I picked out the chocolates I’d like and was really helpful through the process. Would recommend!
Awesome place to head to for some sweet amazing chocolate. The chocolates look like art. Pricey though but worth it
This place is amazing. If youre looking for a gorgeous, sweet and delicious cakes for a birthday, Valentines day or an anniversary, this is the place to go.
We attended a chocolate tasting class at The Chocolate House, and had a fantastic time. Our teacher was very knowledgeable and engaging, and the session provided a fascinating lesson about the history of cacao, modern chocolate production, and of course about different types of chocolate. All of the chocolates they selected for the tasting were delicious. The chocolates available in their shop are also excellent - one of the best selections in DC!
Chocolate store with a good selection. They sometimes have tastings, but I dont know about during the pandemic.
Excellent Chocolate! service is also really helpful and polite. It became my go to place for Chocolates and gifts.
Absolute gem of place in DC!! Chocolate truffles are amazing with new combos but also basics that always deliver! They also have novelty and fair-trade chocolate and cacao from numerous craft vendors and countries. Very highly recommend - a box of 4 truffles runs $10.50.ig: @harshaeats
I received a box of assorted truffles as a gift and these are the best I ever had. The flavors are SPOT ON, its amazing how they were able to concentrate and perfect such unique flavors and not miss a note. They are lil jewels 💎
I live in Michigan and wanted to send chocolates to my brother and his wife (in VA) for Veterans Day. The lovely woman working helped me prepare a specialized box of truffles and helped me coordinate a third-party delivery service to pick the box up and hand deliver them to my family. I’m so thankful for their assistance and delicious chocolate!
Staff was really sweet and helpful. However I am not a fan of their product. I bought a large assorted box, had a few, and I would trade them for a 3$ dark chocolate bar.I am not a big chocolate fan. Some of these flavors/tastes dont mix and make me want to gag - It doesnt taste anything like chocolate anymore.
Wonderful little shop! Now offering curbside and online ordering. The refreshed interior is absolutely stunning!
Ive walked past this boutique chocolatier for about 2 years -- always too busy to make a stop. Given my love of dark chocolate, and given that it helps my headaches go away-- why in the world did I wait so darn long! I walked into and my... they carry some of the best dark chocolates around!!I also thoroughly enjoyed the staff. Antonio was super kind, engaging, and conversational (not pushy). Lots to love about this place! I look forward to their monthly events and tastings. Thanks for being in DC!
Wonderful selection including from other US cities, and other countries.
Great selection of Chocolate packages and flowers.
When we were looking for a fun experience for our 80 year old client to enjoy with her teenage daughter, we stumbled upon The Chocolate House and how perfect! We pre-selected a beautiful 30-piece chocolate box that opened like a jewelry box and had it waiting there for them to fill up upon their arrival (we also bought ourselves a couple pieces at the same time because how could we resist - and YUM). The team there were so helpful, and assisted our clients in picking the perfect 30 pieces. I even overheard the teenager ask the worker in amazement, do you have all the different types memorized?!. All in all, this was the perfect spot for our clients, and we cant wait to impress our next chocolate-loving adventurers with it - they even had Zing bars! Yum.
Chocolate makes everything better.
Have been going to this place for years, through two name changes, but its still just as delicious. Its tempting to go more often than... sparingly... because theyre open late and sell indulgent drinking chocolate. You will be surprised how much quantity and quality there is packed into this little place.
The PERFECT chocolate shop! Exquisite world-class Belgianesque chocolates, hand packed with hand written descriptions of each on the inlay. Let me say that again: HAND WRITTEN descriptions on the inlay. Superior! The variety is breathtaking--so many interesting flavors--all chocolate based, but some are less chocolate forward. I havent tried a single one I wouldnt call complely delicious.
Absolutely delicious. Best chocolate I’ve had since I’ve lived in DC. Got there the day after V day so selection was slim- folks had bought out the most popular flavors. So we selected from what was left & were blown away. The dark chocolate rosemary were absolutely divine. IF THESE ARE THE ONES NOT CHOSEN HOW DELICIOUS MUST THE NEIGHBORHOOD FAVORITES BE?We shall find out because we will be back😊
They have chocolate from almost all over the world. Their staff is friendly, welcoming, and eager the help you find the chocolate/gift youre looking for. Their truffles selections is also great🍫
Amazing selection of delicious, eclectic, and ethically sourced chocolate. You can’t go wrong here! Very nice staff too.
They have hard to find, high quality, bean-to-bar brands here like Madre chocolate from Hawaii and Letterpress from LA. Plus the truffles in the case are always fun as well! We really enjoyed one called “the lover”. Cheesy name, excellent passion fruit ganache.
Wonderful selection of local and globally sourced artisan chocolates at reasonable prices given the location and quality of products. I will certainly return the next time Im in town.
Craft chocolate is the answer to any question you might have in life. Chocolate House has plenty. Im from Utah, and they had several excellent Utah companies represented: Solstice Chocolate (SO GOOD), Amano, and Ritual. This pleased me greatly. The rest of the selection was also excellent. The person we talked to here, Alex, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about chocolate, and we had some great discussions about how people get into craft chocolate. Im a member of the Utah Chocolate Society (really, its a chocolate fan club...) and he was very interested to hear how we do things. Im really excited to see how they do things in the future, because I will definitely be back next time Im in D.C. – I loved it.
Its hard to justify spending 10-20 bucks on chocolate on a normal day, but come here on occasion to browse artisan chocolate brands. Their chocolate pieces are noticeably better than anything Ive had of a shelf (try the passion fruit one - amazing). They have good sipping chocolate (not hot chocolate) and very cheery and knowledgeable workers that enjoy talking about what they do.
Lovely shop. Tried the hot chocolate, which was small at 8 oz but the flavor was amazing, subtle and not candy sweet, clearly made with real, good quality chocolate. The variety of individual hand crafted chocolates is overwhelming, there were easily more than 50 different types, exceeding most chocolate shops in NYC like Jacques Torres. Tried the passion fruit with white chocolate, which was perfect (very fresh, with a strong fruit flavor). They allow the chocolates to be bought by piece, each for a reasonable flat price, which is great if you just want one or two for yourself. The only negative is the entrance to the store, which is down a flight of stairs, so there is no wheelchair entrance of any kind.
Stopped in on our first trip to DC and was it ever a good decision. We took a class taught by the owner, Marisol, and learned all about the different types of chocolates and how they are made. After class we couldnt help but purchase some of the delicious and gorgeous selections available. Marisol even took time to help us choose. Highly recommend you check them out and dont leave empty handed!
One of my favorite places to stop when Im in the D.C. area. The staff is fantastic and very helpful and of course the chocolate is always delicious!
Sophie was very nice and helpful
Not to be missed by chocolate lovers. This place stocks everything from the more common to the harder-to-find chocolate bars from around the world. You can pick from prepackaged bars to your own custom-built truffle box. Many of the truffles were from smaller producers in the DC metro area, so its a great gift if youre looking to take a piece of DC with you or to give as a gift.
Went in the day after valentines day and the selection was limited, yet in still, every chocolate we bought was delicious! See you again soon. Highly recommended.
Staff is very knowledgeable and easy to work with. For some of their products that come with prep suggestions LISTEN TO THE STAFF. They know what theyre talking about. The only downside is, despite everything being delicious, it is rather pricey. So I guess weigh your options.
Marisol (shop owner) is awesome and is the reason for my many stops! She also knows her chocolate very well, which is reflected by the stores eclectic variety. Check this lil gem out, youll have a...sweet time! 😉
I was scrambling after the chocolate shop in Alexandria I was going to use was unexpectedly closed yesterday and The Chocolate House was my saving grace! The two staff members were courteous and efficient filling my order of chocolates with bourbon in them for a work event. The Chocolate House gained a loyal customer in me and I will be using them as my go-to chocolatier (Im an event planner so I need amenities a lot!) moving forward. Thanks, Chocolate House!
The Chocolate house has a great selection of carefully considered chocolate bars and other chocolate items from around the world. Definitely the place to go for both single source and blended chocolate bars, chocolate covered cacao beans, nibs, and the like. I got great service finding the kind of chocolate I was looking for. They have a small selection of boxed chocolates as well.
Knowledgeable and friendly owners are passionate about chocolate and the district. The selection and quality are fantastic. Definitely a $$$ kinda place, but it earns each one of those $.
Stopped in randomly and got the BEST information on local makers. Left with an eclectic take away box, including passion fruit and honey/ginger chocolate. Will definitely visit again!
Great little gem. Very helpful staff and a wide selection of chocolate in every form. If youre looking for something theyll either have it or know how to get it.
This is not a Chocolate House, Its CHOCOLATE WORLD You can have the varieties of the chocolate. U dont believe me? Go and give em a try. Respectful staffs and passionate owner... wow Love this place and I will come here again when I want to have some chocolates.
Best artisan chocolate in DMV area! Great gift ideas.
I met my very 1st Chocolatier. He was knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I loved my experience.
Incredible selection of chocolate from all over the world. This unassuming boutique may not have the glitz and glam of a mass-market chocolaterie like Godiva, but what it does have is a focus on what matters – the chocolate itself. Packed into this tiny store, youll find chocolates from Peru, Trinidad, Madagascar, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, and many places beyond. I was impressed. The only thing piece of advice Id offer is to make sure the prices for all the items on sale are posted. If Id known how much Id pay, I mightve bought something when I popped in!
As always never a let down, best chocolate spot in the chocolate city ;)
$2.50 a piece for chocolate, but its REALLY good chocolate. Definitely worth getting their little four pack at least once; and they make nice, somewhat personalized gifts.
Found this little shop while walking around with my wife during our recent vacation to DC. It has the best chocolate we ever had. Wish we would have bought more.
Great selection of chocolates. Very knowledgeable staff.
Hard to find craft chocolate sold here by knowledgeable, helpful staff (who will let you sample chocolate if you ask). Prices are high, but fair given the very high quality of goods sold.
Always a lovely and personable experience here. And the Truffles are the best.
Lovely selection of chocolates locally made and from around the world. Purchased 10 chocolates for my sweetie for $25.50.
Delicious chocolate. I have not had their coffee yet but I heard its pretty good
Great selection of good dark chocolates ... we found some from Utah that we love! (Solstice - try the Tanzania bar!)
Love this place. Wonderful selection, wonderful team.
Great range of delicious chocolates. Caramel and salt is my personal favorite.
Huge selection...I even found yummy dairy free varieties. And service with a smile.
Great selection and the monthly tastings are a great way to survey a wide variety of options
Hidden on bottom. Small selection. High quality higher prices.
This place is for chocolate enthusiasts. Pricey but totally worth it.
Nice quick experience. Left with a very big sugar rush (hahaha of course) Fun experience to have a hot chocolate but seemed rushed by staff.
The best chocolates, great variety and friendly staff
Delicious chocolates and really nice staff, but its expensive. If youre into craft chocolate this is the place to go, but its not really the average persons candy/chocolate store.
Excellent selection of artisan chocolates and truffles.
Excellent service.
Outstanding selection with wonderful, passionate staff.
Small store with wide variety of chocolate from all over the world!
Fantastic chocolate, great service very friendly
This place is da bomb, as far as chocolate goes.
Expensive and a bit stuffy but beautiful chocolates behind the counter and really good collection of other chocolates and cacoa from around the world
Sso much chocolate to choose from!
Best chocolate shop in D.C.
Best chocolate in D.C.
Very Well
A chocolate boutique with many interesting things to try. The chocolate bonbons with super special flavors and although they seemed a bit expensive (almost 40 for 15 bonbons) it was worth it for the quality and finesse of each bonbon.
Great, good service !!!!
Excellent!
Delicious chocolate
