Big Planet Comics on U Street is amazing. They have a large selection of comics, trade paperbacks, and more to choose from. They also have variant covers of various comics that might interest you. This establishment is also for both new and regular comic fans alike.
Nice, small, actually smaller than I expected but nice selection particularly for indy and local books. Not really worth the trip out there if you are an out of towner... like myself but the walk there from metro service is nice and the store is well kept, clean, organized and well stocked with a nicely curated selection of books. (I do not mean nice in a mean way its more like a cute hipster version of a classic comic shop)
I bought two comic books for 8 bucks! one was crisis on infinite earths and the other was avengers reunited. good energy for comic book fans.
If youre looking for trades, you may find what you need. Recent issues are fine as well, but there are NO back issues or any kind of memorabilia. So if you live in the DC area and wanna keep up with the latest Alien comics by Marvel I think youll be ok.
This is a compact but extremely well-curated and well-run store with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Its been my local for a long, long time now!
Received five cool free comics
Says “in store shopping” but when I arrived they told me I can’t come in.. smh lol
Best spot in the city hands-down. Love the local zine rack, their community focused events and helpful staff. This is NOT the straight-white-man hellscape of comic shop cliche - its apparent they work hard to find content for all audiences. The spot is small but they can order whatever you need!
Ive known the Big Planet family since 2006. Ive had the pleasure of working with them and helping them out during FCBD. Theyre knowledgeable and friendly. Most of all, theyll go the extra mile to get you what you need. Stop in and say hello! They have something for everybody.
A wonderful comic bookstore on U St. area. Usually I come over once a week to pick up a few copies. Very enjoyable.
Great selection. I found a number of graphic novels that I have been looking around for, as well as being introduced to several new titles. The comics are shelved by genre, which is really helpful. I was particularly impressed by their Graphic Medecine selection, as those can be hard to find. You can also flip through a rack of comic zines. The store is up a steep flight of stairs and definitely not wheelchair accessible.
Love coming here and just checking out all the cool stuff they have here. Awesome prices on all items and the staff knows their stuff.
Layout is fine, but the guy seemed to have an issue with us when we walked in. The kids started showing their knowledge & he changed his tone.I went to purchase & he smiled. Sad - but Im bias for comic stores so I cant give 2☆
When I visit G Books, I always drop by Big Planet Comics (upstairs of G Books) to check out new arrivals, and always find something Im interested. Awesome staff, great ambiance, have a nice cozy feel.
Amazing selection, reasonably organized, and the staff is pretty knowledgeable. These points make this comic shop a rare thing. I will continue to give them my business.
This is a nice little Gem of a comic shop in DC. They have a vast selection for a small shop and nice area too. Highly recommended
Great selection of graphic novels and comics with material in a range of ages.
Every now and again you travel to a place that lets you know how fortunate you have been in life. I have grown up with comics and have spent countless dollars at comic book stores across the east coast. Every one of the shops that I went to were awesome because each one of the owners/workers has been polite, helpful, funny, and/or fun. I make it a point during my vacations to find the local comic book shop and try to spend somewhere between $50-$100 to support them. That all stopped the day I went to Big Planet Comics....I looked on-line for a comic book shop while I was in DC and Big Planet was the only thing that came up. Immediately, I picked up a cab and spent $15 without a care because of the excitement of another comic book shop. After spending a few minutes browsing the current comic section (which was OK, not amazing) I started looking through the trades. I was excited to find that they had Warren Ellis Gravel, and I was about to pick up the first three trades (about $75). Then I noticed that they had Brian Woods (note the W in the last name) Demo Volume Two. I sat down because since Wood begins with W, he was on the bottom shelf, and since I am 63, it was much more comfortable to sit down briefly to peruse through the other Wood titles. I could not have been sitting for more than 3 minutes before the lady working behind the counter rudely said could you not sit on the floor, thanks and added an expert roll of the eyes.I understand that comic shops make money when people buy comics, and i was not sitting on the floor free-reading comic books, I was looking through their Brian Wood collection seeing if there was something new I might want to buy, and I wasnt sitting there long enough to even get comfortable. (WOOD, Why must your last name begin with a letter near the end of the alphabet!?!?! J/K)The one thing I did like was that they had some of the trades arranged by writer. I loved this because I saw some things that Grant Morrison and Alan Moore wrote that I am going to go out and purchase, SOMEWHERE ELSE OF COURSE!If you are a comic fan, save your money and support stores that appreciate, hell maybe not appreciate but at least respect your business.
A very small comic shop, but contains a fantastic variety in the available space. It is purely a comic and graphic novel shop, if youre looking for a selection of collectables, board games, an other entertainment gifts found at larger comic book shops this is not the location for you. The shop is a mere two rooms in what appears to be a converted row house that contains other businesses as well. There are fairly steep stairs for entry into the building.
1st time here. Very nicely organized and plenty of choices, even books for young readers.
If youre looking for comics in DC, this place is great. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and a pretty big selection for a rather small space.
The employee there was very helpful and took his time to assist me and share very good information.
This location is kinda small and so back issues are limited. No CGC/high value comic inventory to speak of.This is more suited to set up with a weekly pull of comics rather than for people coming in to browse.Im no longer the type who purchase single issue comics at release in this digital age, so when I go into a comic book store, Im looking for something worth adding to my collection. I was disappointed with the lack of inventory and left the store empty-handed.But three stars, cuz we dont have enough comic book shops.
Great little shop. Good customer service.
Easy to find locationthis was my first time ever going to a comic book store so I was very eager to learnI was there for my eleven-year-old son the owner of the store was very pleasant he answered every question I had
Its a nice shop. Ill definitely be coming back.
Great Selection And Staff! Definitely Going Back!
Amazing place to buy comic books in Washington DC. Friendly staff, great selection.
My son loved it as did I. Not many comic book stripes left in NY I was happy to see one in D.C.
Best place in the district to get comics. If they dont have what you want in current, back issue, or graphic they will get it in no time. However they mostly have what u need and the staff is great.
Some of the best, friendliest, and most knowledgeable staffs at a comic book store Ive ever known. Wonderful selection, great location, and they even have a reading group. Both this and Fantom in Dupont are the best possible places to go for comics.
Needed Black Widow #5...after 7stores I called Big Planet...problem solved. Huge selection of graffics and trades as well as independents. Big things do come in little packages. Cool staff too! Thanks Guys!
Friendly staff, good comic store. I wish they had better inventory
Maybe this was just a fluke, but I feel like the man behind the counter was extremely rude to me when I asked him a question. I got negative vibes from him from jump. Not giving this place my money.
Theyve got all of the essentials for the collector. The store is well organized and titles are easy to find.
Only took off a star because there arent any back issues to speak of. Otherwise, this place is great. Friendly staff and a very broad selection, from Big Two to underground.
Nice place, with great Comic book variety and good customer service.
A great little comic book shop with a good selection despite being in a small space. Happy Free Comic Book Day!!!
Was a nice small comic book shop with alot of newer comics
Small comic books shop but helpful staff
Small but amazingly well stocked with new comics and graphic novels.
Friendly staff. Smiles and helpful. Actually reads the comics! Will visit again
Small space, but the best selection of comics in the DC area. Always impressed by what they have in stock, and Im always walking in and finding something new and interesting here.
This place has some nice comics and a knowledgeable staff.
Great and knowledge staff. Always able to recommend a good new read.
Great comic shop. Awesome staff and good new comic availability.
Small location but great selection
Really nice place with a great selection of both mainstream and indie comics.
Had a lot of comics in really good condition. And they had a really big selection to choose from. Was really clean and organized and didnt smell. Most comic places ive been to smell and this one didnt I was very pleased.
Pleasant store, nice tpb selection, although no back issues, no bins and not many older or unusual finds.
Friendly professional staff, great selection, cool neighborhood.
I looooved this spot! Really fun shop with a great selection and lots of indie comics too!
This world is running out of these types of comic shops. Definitely worth popping in to browse their rather large selection of comis
Ok not as good as the one i go to. Not that big of stock
Small but all the current titles plus many trad paper backs.
Friendly staff, nice store!
Not a lot of selection but cool and hip place. The guy there makes great recommendation.
Friendly staff. Deep selection of trades and hardcovers.
A kids heaven, with comics and fantasy items for adults, as well. good parking.
I Love This Place!!!...
A great selection of new and vintage comics.
Nice place, nice people
No old comics but helpful staff
Small selection but its worth a visit if your in the area and I havent had a problem with staff all kind
Perfect selection
Awesome!!!
A nice place where you should not hesitate to go dig a little to find vintage comics at reasonable prices. There is everything, even very creative local fanzines ... a real treasure chest!
American comics shop. From comic books to graphic novels, the works of various publishers are lined up and you can see them. There are quite a few English versions of Japanese manga. It may be difficult to find because there are too many.
A relatively small comic book store, but apparently well sorted, because the five titles that were on the wish list were all available (and some others beyond).
Small but very good has everything
