Consolidate Doors is the best vendor I have worked with in my 15 years of home ownership. Top to bottom. My garage doors are the one thing about my house about which I havent a care in the world. Thank you, everyone at CD!
We have a 20-25 year old thin steel garage door, made by the Taylor company, who is no longer in business. The bottom rubber seal was flatter than a pancake and didnt look to be installed correctly from day one. I also saw wires fraying on the tension cables on each side of the door and went so far as to cut a strand so it wouldnt get caught up in the cable when the door was opened or closed. The other tension cable was starting to braid itself. I decided to call Consolidated Doors in Waukesha, WI. Much to my surprise, the appointment given to me was the next day. Even better - after looking all over for the name of the company making the door, the scheduling person told me they happened to have a Taylor garage door seal in an 18 foot length. My garage door, as is everything in my house, is an odd size.....17 feet wide. The technician was to come out between noon and 3pm on Mar. 27, 2018 and would call before he drove over. I called Consolidated Doors to say it was getting near 4pm and it didnt look like he would get here today. The scheduling person said he was delayed on another job and would be over between 4:30 and 5:00pm. Around 4:40pm, the technician showed up and immediately went to work. He popped the mounting screws for the bottom seal. The old seal was off in no time. The bottom of the door needed to be scraped a bit to get dirt off it so the new seal could be installed. The seal was a rectangular U shape with a single blade sweep behind it. The new one went on with a bit of difficulty and the technician screwed it into the inner side steel panel. The tension cables took him around 10 minutes each. He then lubed up the garage door track and wheels. Entire job took him around 40 minutes. My bill for the labor, new seal, and new cables was $265.00.As a public service to anyone reading this review, please go out and check the tension cables on your own garage door. If those start to fray or braid up, it could lead to your garage door not functioning properly and you might not even be able to get the door closed if those pop. The cables are braided steel over 6 feet long and one end is screwed into the side and bottom on each side of the garage door. There is a spool on a rod where the main springs are and the spools are located at each end of the rod. Make sure yours are OK. And, unlike what I did - dont cut any fraying strands. Could be very dangerous. If you have a garage door problem, give Consolidated Doors a call. I was surprised with the promptness of the appointment they gave me; the technician had all the supplies he needed in order to do the fix; and his work was both fast and efficient.
I needed a large overhead door retrofitted on my pole barn. Consolidated doors came through in a big way. They approached the out of the ordinary job with confidence and even had the door i needed in stock. Less than a week later I have a perfectly installed door. I would highly recommend consolidated doors and would definitely use them again in the future.
