They have a large selection of inventory and they obviously appeal to a dedicated cycling crowd. But they dont really handle customer service all that well. I bought my 9 year old his first multi-gear bike there, a nice Giant that will last him for the next few high-growth years of his life. However, the gear shifter is too stiff for him and I took it back to see if they could make adjustments to it to help him out. They took less than 20 seconds on the bike and told him that they sell tons of these bikes and no ones ever complained about that before. They did offer to refund us, which I appreciated. But it would be nice if they could validate my sons issue rather than take the you-must-be-the-problem tact that they did.

My Mother and Father in-law attempted to have my stepsons Cannondale F7 tuned-up and repaired at Spokes in Wheaton yesterday (9/29/2021). The associate they talked to said the bike was not worth fixing as it would cost $500+ and then tried to sell them a new bike. They turned the associate down on the sale of a new bike. The associate did help them load the bike back into their SUV, which was nice. The in-laws took the Cannondale to J&R in Villa Park for repairs, which J&R is performing on the bike this week.I understand the Cannondale is older (but still in good shape structurally) and the repairs would be costly, which was fine and expected. But to say the bike isnt worth the repairs and to buy a new bike was a slap to the face.Over the years I have bought a number of bikes from Spokes, have my bikes maintained their and spent more than $10,000.00 with them (Also interesting that they have tuned up that same Cannondale more than once in the past at the same location). After this latest experience, Spokes will not see another penny from me.

I bought my bike online knowing my size. When I arrived it was ready to go. The tires seemed too wide and aggressive for me so I asked if they would put different tires on at a cost of course. They made some recommendations to fit my needs. They quickly changed the tires out. The staff is friendly and answered all my questions. I was concerned about the fact that not all the staff were wearing masks- mostly the service guys. Perhaps it’s a different law in IL - not sure. Very friendly and helpful people.

First time customer. Researched inventory online and stopped in on Thursday. Brian D. greeted me and was friendly and knowledgeable. I was looking for a Specialized Mountain Bike for myself and a Giant Mountain Bike for my son. We walked to the warehouse and found the exact bikes I was looking for. I had mentioned I was planning on riding this weekend to take advantage off the nice weather. He explained that they were VERY busy and that the bike assembly would take 2-3 days. I could see how busy the store was and said no problem. As I was leaving he said he would see what he could to do to speed up the assembly process. Much to my surprise, he texted me about 4 hours later and said the bikes were ready! I really appreciate Brian going above and beyond to rush the process! Picking up the bikes was fun and Brian helped me pick out some accessories! I have been bike riding for several years and have bikes from several top brands. Spokes was an excellent experience and I will be visiting again for future needs. I am thoroughly please with Specialized Bike and the entire experience at Spokes! Highly recommend!

Went in there to purchase 2 bicycles for our daughters. After they rode the bikes, we decided to go to one other store to test ride bicycles before making a purchase. As we were leaving, the sales guy or maybe owner proceeds to tell us that these are the last 2 and will be gone soon, right in front of our daughters, thus upsetting them. After we left, we went to the other store and bought 2 bicycles (priced higher) just so I would not have to go there again. We manged to highlight all the positives on these bikes versus the LIV @ Spokes to our children. Word to the wise, parents have enough stress and do not need anymore. Your lack of tack cost you 2 sales and 2 future sales when my wife and I will be purchasing bicycles.

This review is based on the sales experience. I would not trust them with my bike at this point. Confirmed the 27.5+ version that comes with a 130mm fork of the bike I wanted was in stock a couple months ago. Came in, dealt with a pushy sales person who couldn’t answer basic questions about the bike. Poor experience overall but it’s been hard to find bikes. If I had not basically made up my mind about the bike I wanted, I would’ve left immediately.Came home to find a chip in the frame I didn’t notice initially. Whatever, it’s a mountain bike. A brand new one but whatever. Maybe the leather in my back seat chipped it.Now I come to find out, after taking the bike to a different shop for some work, the fork is 120mm and the dropouts are designed for the 29” version of the bike. But it has 27.5+ wheels. This is info the salesperson should have known and disclosed before taking $2-3k from me. The bike should have had 29” wheels per the fork and dropouts. Based on the upgrades I wanted to make, I would have been happy with either version, but not a mix of both.2 stars for the friendly mechanic I spoke with towards the end. Can’t speak about the work they do on bikes.

Stopped into Spokes in Wheaton today to browse their inventory for a new bike. Was gonna recommend my friend to stop in and take a look as they had a good number of bikes to select from HOWEVER as I was leaving I decided to pick up an extra inner tube for my bike, I selected two boxes from the stacked display in the back and took both to the register to pay. I decided to only take one box and leave the other which I gave to the gentlemen behind the register assuming he would put it back. I guess he must have been having a bad day or has no clue on customer service (or both) because he literally asked me to Can you put the other box back on the display as I was taking out my CC to pay. He refused to even scan the box until I put the other one back on the display. Excuse me? Again he repeated for me to walk to the back and re-stock it. NEVER had I had a cashier tell me to put something back when i changed my mind... What kind of customer service is that? That is YOUR job, NOT MINE! If I would have changed my mind on 10 boxes for you to put back that is YOUR job to put them back. I just walked out, now he has 2 boxes to put back in stock. You lost a customer and a bike sale over the Labor day weekend... Ill be telling all my riding buddies about this and NOT to support your business unless they like bad customer service. Im still upset as I write this...had to give at least one star for this post, I would have given negative stars.

I ordered the bikes and they cam in a few days before they were scheduled and they set them up exactly with air, seat, lights custom adjusted to my height and the other for my girl Lisa. They cam with a warranty and the owner said stop by anytime if you need any adjustments or just to say hello. I wish there were more businesses out there with experiences like this one. I bought electric bikes for us so we can go on long trips up to lake Geneva on bikes for the weekend and fun little escapes for the weekend, They also recommended a bike carrier for my car and I ordered it from them too....... An advertised $35 wheel truing ended up costing me $103. To be fair, they had to replace 8 spokes; however, that ended up tripling the cost. So, first, the cost they charged me per spoke was $5! These are regular spokes run-of-the-mill spokes for an entry-level 700c wheel. When I inquired about the steep cost I was told that they buy them at $350 for a box of 100. I dont buy that. Other places sell the full set of 36 spokes for an entire wheel for under $20.So $35 for truing labor plus $40 for the 8 spokes with tax came out $78. I was not happy about the deal and not being able to buy spokes at a reasonable cost but, given time pressures, I agreed to go ahead with the service. When I came to pick up the wheel I was given $103 final bill. What was added was Flat Fix Labor and Tire/Tube Disposal Fee and a Rim Strip for an additional $25. $20 of that cost was the flat. I was told that they needed to take the tire off the wheel to perform the wheel truing. Makes sense; however, why was that not on the estimate? And what exactly did they need to recycle given that there was no flat? All along, the service rep kept repeating to me that ... we need to make overhead to make a profit. Again, I understand but thats not what you say to a customer. I understand the times are tough with COVID and all but I feel overcharged and taken for granted. I dont think Ill be going back to this place.

My girl friend was in need of a new bicycle so I took her to Spokes. I visited this store the previous weekend. Spokes has a surprisingly huge variety of bicycles, parts and equipment. Other store‘s I’ve visited, they didn’t have very much in stock or products on the floor. We purchased a Specialized Rocker Hopper Comp 29er for her from Spokes on 07/18/2020. The process was smooth, the guys at the store are all friendly and knowledgeable. They helped her with a good fit. They put a riser on the handle bars for her free of charge. I’ll be buying a new Specialized Rock Hopper 29er I hope in the near future once they get more products in.

In my opinion, these guys are crooks. My wife ordered a tire pump from them online. She received an confirmation of the order and her credit card was debited. She even paid for delivery. Over two weeks later, having heard nothing, I called the store. I was told that the manufacturer no longer has the item in stock so Spokes was not going to be able to fill the order. When I asked why they had charged her for the product and delivery if they didn’t have the item in stock, I was told, “That’s how we do it here.” And he hung up. If I understood him correctly, he means that his store will advertise an item for sale, accept an order, charge the customer, then go look if they can buy it elsewhere, and apparently not tell the customer if they have no intention of ever filling the order.

I brought in my Dogma with some minor head tube distortion I was concerned about. After inspecting my bike, they advised me to leave it with them for further inspection. Monday around noon I received a call saying that all the pictures and documentation had been submitted, and was to be reviewed by the manufacturer, usually a 5 day process. By Friday, I received another communication that the documentation was still under review, but I should have an answer early in the week. The following Monday, a replacement frame was approved for me. I was immediately emailed available stock and given a choice of replacement frames. Withing the hour, my new frame was ordered and in the hands of the manufacturer. The following Tuesday I was informed that my frame will be in Friday morning. I asked if it was possible to get my bike re-assembled for the weekend and they said not a problem. 6pm that Friday my bike was ready to go!I went from a cracked frame to fully replaced bicycle in under 3 weeks thanks to the awesome efforts of Chris and everyone at Spokes. Lately, a family member suggested that with as much bike riding as I was doing, it would be worth my time and money to have a bike custom fit/made for me. He had had it done and said it made a big difference. I’d have gone to his expert but traveling to California at this time is out of the question.Thankfully I found Spokes in Wheaton and Raouf. Raouf listened to me and asked me questions about what kind of riding I was doing and what I would want from a new bike.He took measurements, evaluated my stance and gait then found the perfect bike for me in his inventory. A lightweight carbon fiber bike with carbon fiber wheels, disc brakes, and dura-ace derailers. We upgraded the pedals and my shoes as well as added a Garmin computer and rear light/car motion detector.I took it for a ride last night and was very pleased. It performed beautifully. Climbing hills was noticeably less effort. In general the effort needed to stay with my group was less but the speed was better. I didn’t need to shift gears as often but when I did they changed precisely. In my opinion, Raouf is a treasure and a master of his craft. I cannot give him a high enough recommendation. I should also mention that I was prepared to spend a lot more for a custom made bike. Raouf did not exploit that. He got me what a wanted at a reasonable price. I am very grateful to Raouf for his expertise and cycling advice.

I typically do not take the time to write reviews about my experiences with company’s however feel I needed to take the time especially with the time we are in and were if a business has the opportunity to be open should provide a level of customer service where the customer feels appreciated. However, my experience was not the case.I live in WI, Spokes Bikes in Wheaton IL is 1.5 -2 hours away from me however was the closest dealer of the specific bike I was looking at which had a list price of a little over $6,000.00. I called before I made the drive down there to make sure they were open and second to see if they had the two bikes IN STOCK to see. On the phone was a man who seemed like he didn’t want to be there in his tone I should have known I shouldn’t have even went there, he assured me both bikes in the colors were that and was standing next to them . So obviously I was excited because I have put a lot of research into which bike would be my next purchase.Upon arrival I was greeted by one of there Salesman, after wheeling the first one out I asked okay can I see the light grey one, he said “ oh we don’t have it” I said what do you mean I literally just called and was assured they were both there. He then said oh we must have just sold it. I said come on in an hour in a half you just sold this bike, he then said okay well it was probably one of the other guys ( who’s named started with a P (Pete or Paul ) and he must not have actually checked . I said seriously, I asked specifically if you had those two bikes. He did apologize. As a side note while I am outside there was another client who was picking up a bike for her child said it has been the terrible experience and felt uncomfortable purchase the bike and could have got better service at Target.Never the less as I drove a way I felt the need to call and speak to the manger or owner of the company. When I called, I was asked why I needed to speak to him and was then reluctantly put on hold then I finally get to speak to Moe, apparently the owner. I started to explain the situation to Moe, he say with a dismal tone “ yah sorry” I said really come on that is BS how can you say that is any customer service . this is were Moe losses it, he proceeds to call me all the names in the book which I will not repeat here but a good example would be someone on a roid rage ! he then hung up the phone after he called me everything in the book to I guess get the last word.I will allow you to formulate your own verdict of my experience and determine if you feel comfortable purchasing anything form Spokes Bicycle Shop in Wheaton IL, because I will definitely not!I have purposely left out the bicycles I was looking out because feel the experience I had with Spokes and Moe no way represent the quality and the experience I had dealing directly with the manufacture which has been fantastic!Oh yah one last thing I had every intention of making a purchase as I had 3k in my pocket and means to pay the rest ..update : the owner Moe has called to apologize

I purchased my first mountain bike from Spokes. The employee helping me pick out the bike was informative and courteous, but I was the only person in the store. My biggest complaint was that I was told the bike that I ordered would come in 7-10 days. After 18 days, it still hadnt come in and I was told it would probably be another 10 days. I ended up taking a different bike that they had in stock, but it wasnt the color I really wanted. When I picked up the bike in store, I had to wait 15 minutes for a bike mechanic to make adjustments before I took it home. Overall I just wasnt happy about not being told the correct amount of time for the bike to come in, and settling for the color I didnt want. I think if youre spending thousands of dollars on a bike, you should get great service before AND after the purchase.

Extremely unethical, in my book.Their delivery date on parts and work just keeps moving out, and out, and out. What a joke. They act theyre doing YOU a favor. I had to stand at the front desk for awhile while the grey haired bastard at the front desk counted his money. Then he gave me attitude. Horrible horrible horrible. I wouldnt go back to this place if it was the last bike shop on earth (and there many others in the area).

I have been an active bike rider for over 40 years and I take my biking seriously. I shopped around for a bike store when moving to the Wheaton area 20 years ago and am very glad to have chosen Spokes Bikes as my go to bike shop. They treat me and all their customers as valued family members - offering great advice and super deals on their bikes. Whether buying low end or high end - you are an important customer to them. Come for the great bikes and you will be overwhelmed by the service. Raouf and his staff will go out of their way to make sure that you are happy with your purchase because they want you as a long term customer.

Not impressed. I came here a few months ago and just kept forgetting to post a review, but its something I wanted to share. I stopped by Spokes for the first time and I was looking for a bike pump and was thinking of looking for bikes for my 6 year old son who was with me. I was looking around for perhaps 15-20 minutes and no one offered to help me even once. The one attendant I did see was all over the man who came in after me though for some reason. We didnt end up looking at bikes since no one helped us, but I did purchase a great bike pump (best one Ive ever had, no joke) and thats the only reason Im not giving this store just 1 star. They also have a nice selection of mostly adult bikes, but their lack of customer service made me feel very unwelcome. I got the feeling this place is more focused on the serious cyclist or racer, which is great, but a simple hello or may I help you would have gone a long way.

SPOKES WHEATON GETS EXCELLENCE STARS!The perfect formula:Individual Motivation/Persistence + Spokes Knowledge and Encouragement = A Successful Bike Rider.March 15, 2012 my Specialized Road Bike was a part of the Spokes inventory and March 16, 2012 it became mine! Most impressive is the knowledge and service provided by the owner to professionally measure me properly. I cant emphasize the importance of this enough!! The owner takes the time to have you try the bike on a trainer as well as outdoors to ensure proper fitting. The same is true when you switch to shoes that clip into the pedal.I started riding in 2010 with my first Spokes Wheaton purchase of a Hybrid Bicycle. They have been helpful and service oriented since (as a new rider, Ive been in there many times)....and now my second bike came from there as well. They will help you find the right bike for you and best of all you get to try it out before purchasing it!Just as important is their encouragement for their customers to succeed as a rider. If you have the motivation and determination, they will have the encouragement and patience to help you develop as a rider. They even have group rides which not only are a good workout but fun.The owner and the staff at Spokes Wheaton are the best!!!Kate B.

There is not a better professional bike shop that I have seen! The product presentation spans from introductory bikes, of better quality, to super high end custom builds. It is a one stop shop with regards to them having the finest accessories and also the best sales & mechanics staff that I have seen. These guys are true technicians in every regard. I highly recommend bike fits from Moe and Rolph. The mechanics have been superb and incredibly timely with upgrades and repairs. I am extremely detailed minded and generally have issues with the level of quality at other bike shops. All of the mechanics and support at Spokes in Wheaton have surpassed my expectation which is a first of any bike shop that I have been at. They also provide great tips on improving your ride. The owner today told he rode 71 miles yesterday. These guys are in it to win it and to support you in all facets of bicycling from picking out a great bike, to upgrades, repairs, and overall guidance on meeting your goals. They also have a huge inventory of hard to find parts which also helps in getting you back on the road quickly. Most shops were quoting 2 weeks on repairs. They ask if 2 days will be ok. They often have fixed things for me while I wait. No reason to look any place else. Do yourself a favor and check these guys out. These guys are the real deal! They are very helpful and very kind. A great pleasure to do business with!

****CUSTOMER BEWARE****If I could give Spokes a negative star rating I would. I recently moved to Illinois and as an avid cyclist needed to find a local bike shop near my home. I did my due diligence online and decided on Spokes because of its proximity, though I did have my reservations after reading some of the more detailed negative reviews online. I have a Jamis TrailX Series mountain bike that needed a new headset, bottom bracket, big front chain ring, rear cassette, front shifter, shifter cables, chain and possibly service on the front fork. When I took it in to the shop they gave me a quote for everything, though they were unsure if they could get the right parts for my front fork(Marzocchi Corsa 26). We decided they would go forward with everything else and wait on the fork service until we could see what parts were available. I asked that they contact me prior to ordering anything for it.About a week later, I received a call from one of the techs who stated that they had ordered an Enduro kit for my bike, but he didnt want to use it because he was afraid that the some of the parts may actually be detrimental to my fork in the long-run. I appreciated this honesty on his part, but was a little upset that they had gone ahead and ordered parts without informing me. He insured me that I would not be charged for these parts since they were not installing them. Two weeks later I picked my bike up and paid for the service, which came out to $469.89. When I had gotten my bike from the service desk I took the service order up to the front to be rung up and was handed the receipt and service order back before I left. When I got home and looked at the two documents I realized that the total amount owed on both was nearly identical ($469.89 receipt, $469.91 service order). The suspension kit only showed on the service order, but the labor costs had been raised on the receipt to to cover the costs of the parts that were not installed on my bike. When I took the documents back to the shop to point out the discrepancy, the service order was quickly grabbed off the counter, torn up and tossed in the garbage. I was told that the prices on the service order where not accurate and all that mattered was what had been rung up on the receipt. As would be expected I was incensed, but with the service order in pieces in the garbage I had no more recourse to fight for my reimbursement. After all this I had to bring my bike back in to them multiple times because I was still having issues with the bike shifting properly through the gears on the rear cassette and I was experiencing what I would describe as intermittent slippage in my pedals (a feeling that the chain was losing tension at times). I was not charged for these visits, but the shifting and slippage issues were not resolved either. Finally, I decided to bring the bike into another shop and was told that not only did Spokes cut my chain too short, but they put a lightly used big ring on the front with some worn teeth (I was charged for new parts). The chain length had caused my rear derailleur to be bent (causing the shifting issues) and the worn teeth on the new front big ring where the cause of the slipping I was feeling in my pedals. It will now cost me another $130, on top of the $469 already spent, to rectify the issues incurred by bringing my bike to Spokes in the first place. Spokes is by far the worst bike shop I have ever dealt with, and I strongly suggest that anyone think twice before doing business with them.

I was brand new to cycling and alone in Fermi Lab when I bumped into this HUGE group that looked like they were having SO MUCH FUN! Despite my old, heavy cyclocross bike they invited me along and it changed my life! I could not keep up but they always waited for me. I could see the owner, Raouf, always looking back (checking on me) from the front. The energy of this group was amazing and people were always giving me tips on technique to help me ride better. I was ALWAYS so excited to go! It is no wonder I lost weight and learned so much about cycling that I won my age category at the 2011 Winfield Criterium Race only one year later! When I wanted a better bike Munir (2nd owner, store manager) spent so much time answering my never ending questions about bike geometry, fit and materials even though he knew I had very little money and was looking on Craigslist for used. Munir and Raouf helped me get a great, new, entry level bike @ Spokes with a price I could handle and financed it for me on top of that. They do have used bikes, too. In the past year the shop has helped me upgrade to race components (new and used from their store) affordably.Ive seen Raouf change many flats on the rides so I feel safe (since I do not know how to change one) but, still, I enjoy the competitive environment. This is such a relief from the dreaded workout routine. There are indoor classes in the winter. When I learned to be a safe rider, respectful of his rules, Raouf took me under his wing and turned me into a powerful cyclist. I ride beside him, now, at the front of his group, pulling as often as he allows. I smile when I see him looking back, protectively, at the NEW slowest rider in his group. His passion for cycling is inspiring...and Ive found HAPPINESS on a bike.
