It’s like they have some odd aversion to customer service. Walked in with a Tele needing new pickups and was ignored by at least three staff members glued to their screens. Wandered around for a few minutes, browsed the selection but didn’t get so much as a hello, let alone any acknowledgment that I exist. (For context, there were no other customers in there.) After 10 awkward minutes of that, I walked into the luthier’s space, but he brushed me off. I now gladly give all my business to Phil Uhlik and will never set foot in this weird space ever again.
Best Local Guitar Shop EVAR!
E. M. Shorts has amazing customer service. The store has looked for several things for me and found them at a very reasonable price. Every time I have been into the store, they have been nothing but helpful, even if I didnt buy anything, and allowed me to try any instrument I asked to, while still considering sanitizing and masks.
Nice small non-chain guitar store with very personal service. They carry PRS which is my favorite brand. They have a great luthier in house to help with any repairs or set-ups you might need.
I love giving business to these guys any time I can. If I need a product and EM Shorts sells it Ill buy from them before I shop online or at a big box store. Ive purchased 2 amps, 3 guitars and many pedals and cables from these folks. I plan on continuing. I saw a few negative reviews above and I have no idea what theyre talking about... If youre considering making a purchase you cant beat the costumer service from EM Shorts. The only complaint Id have is how long it takes the luthier to get some of the work done (but thats only because he does a great job and has a ton of business - its a sign of how good his work is).
They are well informed, and are eager to help.
Great service, and the Guitars there are offered at a good price
Good people. Had a very specific request (250k logarithmic potentiometer) and they happened to have one in the back. Hooked me up with everything I needed and were very friendly.
Daniel was *very* knowledgeable and helpful in finding me the right guitar. He encouraged me to (and helped me) try a wide range of guitars, amps, and pedals. I am very satisfied with my shopping experience there, and intend on buying from them whenever I can. Also, the prices were also quite agreeable. I saved over $200 on the strat pro I ended up buying. 5/5 would recommend just going in there just to hang out!
Visited here to look for a guitar for a kids birthday present. The staff here were all great and pointed me to a great guitar that fit his needs. Was very pleased with their overall service and prices. Will definitely do business with them again in the future.
Helpful and friendly staff make repairs and purchases a fun experience. The products they carry are different from the big brick and morter stores so if you cant find what you are looking for anywhere else youll find it here at a great price. They arent super busy either so you dont have volume wars with other musicians. 5 stars!
Brian is a rock star luthier and a hell of a fine fellow. Dad brought his acoustic guitar in to see if it could be made more playable. Brian adjusted it on the spot and even restrung it! All for the cost of a cheap new set of strings. WOW!
Bought a guitar from E.M. Shorts (owned by Wichita Band Instrument) online. Huge mistake!!! Everything went very smoothly and easily on the phone but when I wanted to return the guitar they didn’t allow it, said all sales is final. Even though their website clearly states: Anything we sell can be sent to you for a short approval period (5 days) without any obligation. Nope. Their return policy is fraud at best. Check out other comments on Yelp or Google and you will see other people have been fallen for this same scam. Also, their supposedly luthier couldn’t even do a basic guitar setup. I ended up brought it to my own luthier and he said they had no ideas what they’re doing. Neck wasn’t straight, action was terribly high, pickup output jack was loosed which they covered up with some glues. If you want to gamble and get robbed online look no further. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and find an honest reputable dealer with transparent return policy if you have to buy online. Do your research (Yelp, google reviews, acoustic guitar forum, etc.). Everybody has negative reviews but look into it to see why they are negative.
Bought my Larivee here & continue to come back for service. Great people & the only place in the area Ill ever take a guitar in for service work. Dont waste your time with the big box store down Kellogg- go where you matter & will be taken care of.
A very nice shop with excellent customer service and support.Best guitar shop in Wichita.
Thanks to Marc and Brian for making my guitar experience world class! I visited the store last week to look at the PRS guitars. Im a beginner so Marc demoed the guitar for me, answering all my questions and never making me feel rushed or pressuring me into a sale. I came back yesterday and Brian was extremely helpful with the sale and doing the set up quickly since I live an hour away. I had my 7 month old daughter along with me and Brian had us follow him to the work room so it was quieter there, very thoughtful. He gave me a great history and talked about all the great features of the guitar I was purchasing, a great thing to do. Thanks again guys!
Great little stores like this are really hard to find these days and all the instruments are top notch. I bought my first guitar here more than 10 years ago and have made many purchases sense. Their prices are competitive and the atmosphere is good enough for me to wait until i can go to Wichita (a three hour drive for me) to get stuff there instead of buying online. Theres a reason theyve been in business as long as they have.
Friendly and Knowledgeable staff. Great huge selection of gear at the lowest prices Ive seen! I dont know how they can sell everything as cheap as they do! Really awesome shop!
Ive traveled all over the U.S. and this is one of the best guitar stores that Ive ever visited. Believe me, Ive been haunting music stores since the 70s :) The gear is excellent quality and the prices are worth the travel. GC is a wast of time. Buy something from a store that cares. If you want a good instrument to LAST and enjoy for many years to come, go here.
Dont waste time buying a guitar here. Only thing they are concerned with is making a dollar. Once you buy, they have no use for you. I would certainly look elsewhere. I purchased a guitar from them for well over 2 grand and the whole experience was a joke. Find a reputable dealer somewhere else.
Theyre wonderful to do business with! Knowledgeable, kind, and very sweet guys.
Love being able to actually hands on strum their guitars. Great variety too!
The review from Guitar Mann mirrors my experience here. I bought a 1500$ Ebony Gibson J45 from them, and they sent it out of the shop with action @ 5/32 @ the 12th fret low e, with the neck backbowed. I took the guitar back and they refused to accept the return, even though the adjustments they made could damage the longevity of the guitar. In the end I left it in their store and only got a refund by threatening a credit card chargeback. Avoid.Edit: J15. You made absolutely no effort to make it right, since it was your work, the setup that caused the buzzing.
E M Shorts are outstanding they also do very good quality repair work on your instruments I highly recommend them
Do not show up to this store 15 min before they close. They are ready to shut the door no matter what! Even if you came to make a big purchase, they are not considerate. I called to let them know My parents were driving from an over an hour away and the guy told me to try to make to make before they closed. I was disappointed when they kept rushing us as we were deciding on our purchase before the stores official closing time. It’s frustrating when I want to shop at a local business and they treat people like this. It has always been my impression when making a sale to treat the costumer right, even if it’s staying a little late. As a health care professional I would never tell my patient, “Sorry I’m clocking out, I can’t take care of your needs anymore”. Do things right and thing will always be in your favor!
Excellent experience purchasing a Les Paul. Salesman and luthier were both very helpful.
Knowledgeable staff and prices usually beat the big box stores.
Ask for Lance Threet. He might play a lick for you on an Epiphone. Paul Reed Smith. Taylor. Fender. Gibson. Dozens more. Best guitar shop in Wichita. By musicians for musicians. Skip guitar center and get the local flavor. Where local musicians shop.
Friendly and knowledgeable. Excellent service and merchandise.
I have purchased two guitars there in the last ten years and I always make a point to stop by when I am in Wichita. I purchased a Larrivee Solid Koa Parlor and a Gibson Les Paul Jr. from the store and both were in perfect condition. They have a great selection of acoustics and a good representation of Fender, Gibson, and PRS electrics from the entire range of those brands. There is a good but not huge representation of ukes and basses. They seem to have a lot of Banjos if you are trying to channel your inner Steve Martin. Not hard to find good $500 guitars there and if you want to spend $5,000+ you can do that too. When we bought the Gibson Les Paul Jr. we found the price was nearly $50 below Guitar Center, plus it was re-strung and setup for us!
Very nice gear and knowledgeable staff.
Great quality guitars
Very knowledgeable staff.
I would not let them work on my tires let alone an instrument.
Beautiful guitars
This place rocks
