Every time we go in they are kind, helpful and friendly with no pressure. They made sure we got what we wanted and were kind and patient during all 4 trips we made there to find just the right saxophone. I highly recommend this shop!!
Took my horn to Wichita Band today for a minor repair. Individual helping me was rude and angry. Implied that I wasnt a customer due to my needing warranty work on a horn from another dealership done. As if he wasnt get paid. Ive been a customer for 6 years. Likely wont be in the future. The other instrument store in town gladly took the business.
I was very disappointed they were not able to help me. I brought my saxophone in for an overhaul, and I was ready to spend a few thousand on repairs, but they were not able to work on it because their repairs were backed up. I completely understand getting backed up, but unfortunately, the person was not willing to work with me on establishing a timeframe for me to either come back or any help on finding another repair shop in the state of Kansas. I can understand potential liability for telling me that another particular shop does poor work, but Ive never seen a business flat refuse to recommend another shop to a customer they couldnt help.
Best people ever. So nice and patient with us.
Helpful staff, good prices for equipment and books
Its really nice. Felt kinda small but Im a pretty anxious guy. Staff was really nice and didnt try to press me into buying another I didnt need, want kinda every PSR but Ill go back for my string and the stuff on layaway.
Old guy who does repairs and values instruments was incredibly short and rude. Wish that I had never gone in, I felt somewhat ashamed for trying to sell an old horn I hadnt played for a while because of the down turned economy, they asked me to name a price twice, then after my second guess for how much I could sell the horn for he simply said thanks for coming in and walked away. Rude and made my day worse for going.
Unbelievable customer service, quality instruments and repair work. My son dropped his clarinet and needed it repaired ASAP. After googling what could be wrong and how to fix it until the wee hours of the morning, I decided Id better just let the professionals check it out. Not only did Wichita Band Instrument Co have someone pick it up at his school, but they also cleaned and repaired it (same day!) honoring the warranty, which expired 2 months ago. Who does that?! If that werent enough, they even delivered it to me at no charge! I dont know what I did to deserve this VIP treatment, but Im very grateful. My son has been practicing for almost two hours since they dropped it off...he cant believe how smooth it plays and feels. Im so glad I chose this place to rent my daughters viola from as well! Their prices were the best, and all the employees Ive dealt with have been friendly and helpful, no pressure or attempting to sell add-ons we dont need. THANK YOU!!
Outstanding instrument shop. I purchased two instruments from them over the phone, a tenor and bass recorder. Outstanding instruments and fast shipping. Always treated with respect on each call. The Tenor was in stock and I got it the next day. The bass came from the manufacturer, Moeck, in Germany so it took a few weeks to ship from overseas. I just received it today. Oh my gosh! Wonderful instrument!!
The service and selection at Wichita Band Instrument was incredible. We were looking for a wood clarinet for my daughter and they were so helpful. They allowed her to play the instruments, and also demonstrated the benefits of each one. We were so impressed with their customer care and their attention to every last detail. Highly recommend them if you are looking for a high quality instrument and stellar customer service.
Very knowledgeable. We bought a used clarinet and they were able to answer all of our questions.
Really like this place. So glad I discovered it. Our son needed a new Viola and Brian was very helpful with all his knowledge and information. Left with a new instrument for our son to begin the school year with. Thank you!!!!
Hands down the best place to buy an instrument, student or adult. They are clear on their rental agreements, and they have affordable, quality instruments. Theres no pressure to buy either, like some other places. They also have a few rooms to try out an instrument before you buy it. Make this your first stop if youre looking!
Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff! 🎶
Been doing a lease to own on a trombone for my son. He is VERY hard on it and while we are leasing it. I can take it in to get cleaned and fixed. All staff there is super friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend going to them. They do auto pay with a debit card, pay over the phone, or you can go in. If you are needing an instrument for yourself or your child I would go here.
Sons clarinet needed to be fixed. They did a great job and finished earlier than initially quoted. Great job!
Ive had such a wonderful experience with the good folks at the Violin Shop. Im not a musician but my daughter is working hard to become one. The endlessly knowledgeable and patient folks at The Violin Shop have worked with my 7 y/o to get her into the right instrument at a price I can afford. I was sent to them by recommendation and would not hesitate to recommend them and do so on a regular basis.
If you are looking to make a purchase from an experienced owner and staff look no further. Gary and his staff are top notch professionals with 30 plus years of experience to back it up. I am always happy to refer them new customers because they will be treated right. There arent many businesses that you can put that kind of trust in any more!
Wichita band company was very nice friendly and easy to get in there and get a quality instrument for my child I will definitely be doing all my business with Wichita band company
I had my first guitar from here at the time when I didnt knew anything about them. Got it for an amazing price and for a few times when I had problems they solved it seamlessly. Thank guysP. S. Ive uploaded the picture of my guitar as well when it was somewhere close to new.
They used to have some great guitars, but I wasnt impressed with the sorry collection they had today. Probably wont go back there.
2nd trip here, 2nd instrument purchased. Great prices, knowledgeable staff. First on my list for instruments.
Everything is over priced, how do they manage to stay in business? Quality is quiet good but not always !!
We only buy my daughters band supplies here! We started at another store here in town, a larger store, and were not happy with the service, prices or LONG wait times to have a simple pad replaced on her clarinet. We came to WBC and havent looked back! Great place, and definitely easier on my pocketbook! We love it!
Fast and friendly service!
Was a long time and satisfied customer until my last visit to sell an old horn. Drove there from out of town reminiscing about great memories selecting and playing my Alexander 1103 (gold brass, screwbell) from Wichita Band: a bit bittersweet but happy at the thought it’d get more use with an active player.Hadn’t bought or sold a horn since 15 years ago, so did a bit of Googling to get rough guidelines but fully expecting to get help setting the price at a healthy point. We looked the horn over, and I asked the older owner what he thought a good price was, citing transparently not having been in the market for a long time. He promptly accused me of trying to get a free appraisal, and told me brusquely to offer. I’d seen a few comparable horns selling in the $7k range (and received an email from an employee that a similar horn different model sold for a bit north of $7k) used and €8k-9k new, so I figured $6k was a good starting point for discussion. He told me “Jesus H. Christ” (that part was actually kind of funny to hear spoken in anger IRL) that if I didn’t have a serious offer, I was wasting his damn time, and stormed off to the back office.Another family member came out to apologize, and I stuck around and sold it, because I needed the cash and wanted the horn to find a new player. Not sure if that was a honed good salesman/bad salesman bit or sincere, but seemed sincere enough.Despite a good selection of instruments and other great and skillful folks there, really sadly can’t recommend Wichita Band, to which I’ve referred past students and friends often, anymore. Lots of other great makers and retailers out there: head elsewhere and seek out better composed people who remember the importance of treating customers well.---Edit: in response to the owners below assertions: yes the net amount billed for the horn when originally purchased was less: because as part of the transaction I sold you another horn I had purchased previously from your store previously (a dual bore Paxman, if memory serves). However consulting an archive of your prices from the time shows quite easily that a new Alexander horn was quite a bit more expensive than the used purchase we transacted last Saturday (for reference, just north of $4000). Your claim is thus both specious and doesnt support your point. At the time your employee actually severely low-balled me on that repurchase offer, but were good on that one: it was a valuable lesson in negotiation–I anchored low–and he had much better manners than the owner who I dealt with on Saturday.Yes, I wanted to sell the horn for money, and I still find the price and transaction acceptable: youll note no complaint about that in my feedback, only a curious disdain for that need in your own response. Its only your manner of conducting business, now further evidenced and confirmed in your note, that I found objectionable and felt obligated to correct my previous glowing recommendations with.Nevertheless, I wish you well in all you undertake, and continue in my gratitude for all the others working there selling quality instruments, doing great work, and treating customers well.
Great advice and service. Very helpful as we chose a new instrument for our high school band student to explore.
My daughter decided to play the flute and I had an old one that she could use. I took it elsewhere to get it repaired (I didnt know better) and it wasnt reasy in time. So I rented a flute through this place. They were super friendly, allowed me to rent for just a month and return until mine was repaired. Would definitely keep in mind for the future.
Incredible horn selection. Knowledgeable people there.
We were greeted quickly and walked over to the right section. They helped us find an instrument that was affordable along with all the accessories.
I bought a Fender Custom Shop J Bass from these guys 12 years ago (at the lowest price in the country, I called everyone who sold custom shop at the time so thats not hyperbole). The guys who work there were helpful and really knowledgeable. Here is the kicker. I recently had a pickup go out and having called Fender for a replacement I learned that I needed original proof of purchase to have my warranty honored. Thinking I was probably SOL I called the store to see if by chance they had a record of my purchase and while they didnt keep invoices back that far they did have a record of having sold it to me, which they provided Fender. Totally blown away that they took the time to help and go looking through old records for me like that. I dont think most people would have done it.
I know nothing about band instruments and these guys did great helping me out picking my sons instrument!
Very helpful n friendly also great prices

Bought a J. Mollenhour & Son (Fulda) grenadilla flute from WBIC at the NFA Annual Convention; beautiful, beautiful, easy-playing, sweet-sounding instrument. Could not be happier. Thank you, WBIC!
The best people in town just wow
Violin are kinda expensive here but great service
Very disappointed in this companys approach to an interested client
The store reneged on an agreed-upon contract and refused to rent me an instrument. I suspect it was discrimination. Do not shop or rent from here!
This is the place go with any band or instruments issues.
