Judy, the owner has moved to a basement house & set up a studio with a vast supply of wigs in all colors & styles. Her new place is close to Stoney Knob Cafe & Wagbar in Weaverville. Judy knows her stuff & is very patient & knowledgeable. She takes her time with you & even has a stylist there to customize your wig. She is very kind & helpful & got us in the same day my mom was discharged from rehab. I would definitely recommend her services.

I was visiting from Maryland and went here for a haircut. Not only did I receive the best haircut from Lenny in decades, but he also taught me about the structure of my face, what to do to enhance the best of my features, He guided me as to what styles would look best for my round face. He loves what he does, hes intuitive about his customers and says that Its all about the person in the chair and not him. My friend also got her haircut by him and its the best cut that Ive ever seen on her. She has extremely fine hair and he worked magic! Everyday we look amazing!! The Duchess is enchanting and funny!! This was the best experience I ever had I walked in not expecting much surely not get the attention that I got you say Im nothing special or anything pretty to look at anymore Ive gotten fat app for unknown reasons I have lupus I have MS my hair has falling out and what was left I had to have my husband shave so I felt like a monster every time I looked in the mirror I didnt recognize that person that was looking back at me and then I went to the secrets of a duchess and just let me say Ashton is one of the sweetest most helpful kind gentle souls and she could ever meet Im so thankful so thankful 4 people wlike her there in the world I promise you if you go here you will not have a bad experience it will be one of the best experiences in your life

Losing one’s hair is almost like losing one’s identity to a woman. They took such good care of me and made it a fun experience on top of everything else. I can’t say enough good things about them. Definitely a very positive experience. I highly recommend them.

I have never purchased a wig until yesterday. I was referred to Secrets of A Duchess by my doctors office. From the moment I walked in I felt comfortable. Ashten took such good care of me. I never felt rushed to make a decision or to make a purchase; although I feel like I walked out with the perfect wig. . They are very sincere in their willingness to help you feel great about your purchase. I highly recommend them to anyone facing hair loss or, just looking to shake things up!

Great energy! Fun people! Charge way too MUCH! Even after advertising 20% off, she charged full price. That was extremely disappointing! I would have frequented this place. Today between medical appointments, I entered the Secrets of a Duchess shop. I didnt have an appointment but was immediately greeted by Scott. I did not feel pressured to buy anything. I had never tried on a wig until today and I was nervous and overwhelmed. Scott made sure I knew how to put a wig on properly, how to care for my wig and gave helpful advice. The Duchess came in and made me feel welcome. She was very kind and compassionate. What started out being another difficult event ended up on a positive note. I dread chemo and losing my hair but today I was reminded that I am not without hope and support. I hope you never need these services because of illness but if you need a wig I encourage you to visit this shop.

Lovely hair stylists and I love their used clothing department which turns profits into donating wigs to chemo patients who have suffered hair loss. The clothes are all good quality and lightly used.

Friendliness is the work that best describes your experience here. Main dude is a cancer survivor and was very healing for my mother who is undergoing her treatment. If you are new to the wig world this would be a great first place to start.

I visited the shop about 2 years ago while visiting a friend. My hair had become very thin so a wig seemed to be a good idea. I felt like the service was very good and foolishly bought 3 expensive, high quality wigs. I ended up not wearing them because they did not feel right on my head (not noticed during the brief time they were on in the shop) and my hair had somewhat recovered. Recently I had a more severe thinning and went to a shop local to where I live. At that shop I learned that I should have had size large, but what was sold to me in NC were size average which explained why they did not feel right. (They would gradually start to work themselves up off of my head and I had to tug them back into place - over and over) The owner of the shop had commented on the fact that I had a large head, but went ahead and sold me what she had in stock. The wigs I bought are still available and are made in large size and the color I wanted. I also learned that the price I was charged is above list price. Buyer beware.

It was a pleasure meeting the Duchess last week. She is friendly and cheerful, and understood my needs right away. I was so pleased that she did not attempt to persuade me in another direction. I wore my new wig home, and could see the happy effect it had on my sweet husband. In all the excitement, I abandoned an old favorite jacket. I personally have not been there but my sister has. She is a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient that just lost her hair. It was a very sad time for her. When she called me to tell me the story of her visit to Secrets of a Duchess I stayed teared up the whole time. They helped her and were SO compassionate and nice that it was really uplifting for her and I think it has give her a new perspective about this awful cancer situation. I cant thank them enough and can honestly say if u are in the same situation and need a wig, give them a try. They are a little pricey but the Duchess really helps out all she can on the prices. They have no idea how much it meant to my sister and to me. Goes to show theyre still good people in the world.

Visited Scott at Secrets of a Duchess when I first knew I would need a wig in the near future. Because of the situation I was in tears as I tried on several wigs, but Scotts no-nonsense, no-pity attitude kept me trying. I almost left deflated but upon his knowledgeable advice I tried one last wig and immediately a smile came upon my face. When the day came that I needed his services my whole family went and Scott cut my hair down to the length I requested, washed my head and set the wig. It really fits me and everyone I am seeing loves it! So many of my friends thought I just had a great cut and style! Scott has been in this business for many years and knows his stuff. And, with his great attitude and my familys support, I never shed a tear, only had smiles!

This is a very Unique Place and to my way of thinking, Just Amazing! Judy, Scott and Juanita are fabulous, fun and talented people. I have watched them take a potentially heart-breaking moment (shaving someones head after chemo has made most of their hair fall) and instead turning it into a mini-celebration, as they pop a wig thats already been chosen and styled, within a mere few seconds! Honestly, it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. I have lost my grandmother, my aunt and my father to cancer, so I guess it hits home for me. This disease is already so devastating, to lose your hair as a woman is seriously traumatizing for most. These guys get it.Scott is an excellent stylist and has been doing my hair for a few years (color/cut) and Ive always been happy with the results.. I know the same is true for Judy and Juanita. In addition The Duchess also has a great high-end resale shop, where the inventory is constantly changing, and the prices are almost embarrassingly inexpensive. Its my understanding that the proceeds go to helping women who cannot afford a wig post-chemo.They also carry a multitude of fun jewelry, CBD supplies, hats and hair accessories, and the shop is almost always filled with laughter (I can hear you from here Scott!) and genuine bonhomie/camaraderie. Didnt enjoy this experience at all. I accompanied a friend on her visit because I was interested to explore the world of wigs. I have chronic, diffuse alopecia and my hair is getting really thin. Judy and Scott were welcoming, if a little overwhelming, and encouraged me to try on a couple of wigs. A few days later I returned to try on more wigs and hopefully make a purchase. Long story short, I didnt feel welcome at all. Judy was busy so Scott dropped a wig on my head, handed me a comb and told me to play with it as he was too busy. I didnt see him doing anything. When I asked for help to manage the wig he took it off my head, announced it could go back in the box as somebody would buy it, and he walked away. I felt humiliated, belittled and close to tears. I left the store. My son called to remonstrate later and basically Judy stated that she was running a small business (I.e. If youre not judged to be a sure sale youre not worth their time). Bad call on their part. I would never recommend this business. Hair loss is an emotional enough issue without being subjected to this level of insensitivity.
