I dropped off my truck to Sterling automotive after having a conversation with one of the store reps. They told me labor per hour was $140 which I thought was fine I mean everybodys gotta eat and pay bills that wasnt to bad for getting under a vehicle and installing my running boards and bed extender as well as a soft trifold tonneau cover. The following day after said conversation I dropped the items and truck off and was told they were going to begin working on it shortly. Next I went home and called back in around 2 hours later to check on the progress, I was told the tonneau cover was installed and they were working on the bed extender and also that the running boards would not go on which I understood if I was sent the wrong boards nothing can be done. I headed into the shop after that conversation which took me about 20 mins to get there I then asked the front desk associate if I can go check on the progress of my truck which she said was fine. When I went into the work area I seen my tonneau cover installed which was fine, also I noticed that working on installing my bed extender was code for its out of the box and sitting there with no actual progress except removing the tape from the box which it came in. I stood there for fifteen minutes waiting for one of the two employees working on someone elses vehicle to respond to me so I could actually ask a question. I then went to the front desk and asked why has the only thing thats been installed is a topper that takes 20-30 mins tops in a period where I was going to be charged for 2 hours and 3/4 of a hour which would amount to $385 when the work they were performing was on another vehicle which was NOT MINE. In the end I told them put my items back in the truck and for a total on the install of the tonneau cover to which the woman at the front desk was shocked and looked as if she had no idea what was going on. After the main technician who was working on my truck told her to charge me a $100 bucks to get me out the door. Basically what Im getting at is if you would like to be robbed blindly and have your vehicle sit there for hours @ $140 per hour this is DEFINITELY THE PLACE FOR YOU. If not check on your vehicles Im sure I would have been charged for 4-5 hours and given a story of why it took alot longer than expected for install had I not stopped in to check on my truck. STERLING AUTOMIVE REPAIR IS A place where you go to donate your money while they work on your local neighbors vehicles.

Be aware of the work done by Sterling Automotive Repair. They replaced Vanos solenoids on my 2008 BMW X3 and used very cheap aftermarket parts made in China that should never have been used. I had to have the cheap parts removed and replaced with the correct BMW parts (cost me $700) because of a check engine light that gave an error code for the Vanos solenoids. I would not recommend this shop.

Sterling is the most reliable & honesty auto repair shop in IL. Every time the owner Mark is very patiently answer all the questions relate to the issues of our car & he is very knowledgeable of any car. Front desk Basia nice, polite. We have been taking our cars to Sterling Auto Repair for several years and have always been very happy with the quality of work and the integrity of the staff. They were recommended from a friend and our first experience was when our air conditioner died on our Toyota Highlander Hybrid. We originally took it to the Toyota dealer and they told us we needed an entire new system for $5000! We then took the car to Sterling and they did the repair for $350-- we did not need a new system as the dealer had told us! Since then, we continue to take our cars to Sterling and have been very satisfied with the quality of work at a fair price.

I have been getting oil changes at Sterling for about a year now and I am always extremely satisfied with the cost and service. My experience today took that satisfaction to a new level.I know very little about cars and the only time I know when to go in for an oil change is when I either hit the mileage number or the date on the little sticker they give me after the last one. Today I was 1,500 miles under the mileage number but 3 months over the date. I figured I should schedule an oil change based on being over the date so I scheduled an appointment with Sterling. The worker started working on my car and after a few minutes came back into the lobby and told me I didnt need a change because I was so far under the mileage number and my oil was still clean. He could have easily done the oil change and taken my money but chose to be honest about the status of my car.This is without a doubt the best auto-repair shop Ive been to and I will be recommending Sterling to all my friends who are in need of auto work.

I dont know how someone could give Sterling anything less than a five-star rating. I am a single woman, so its hard to find an automotive repair shop that I feel I can trust. Well, I have been a customer here for over 16 years, so that should tell you something. I have always been very happy with the service Ive received and never felt I was being pushed into having service done that I didnt really need. They are very friendly and accommodating when I wait for service. They even offer to drive me back home or to my office so I dont have to wait. Pricing has always been fair. I took appointment of 10am at 9am on the same day. But when I reached there I was told to wait until 11 to get my car attended for oil change. But it was not attended until 1120 am. Finally I came out at 1210pm.Business should be considerate to honor the appointments and time of their customer.Although I was offered $10 discount for my wait but I was not at all happy after killing my more than 2 hours of Sunday morning.

The service from Sterling was great. The quoted price was exactly what I was charged, so thankfully no surprises. I got 4 new brand name tires and an alignment for a great price, and I know they were installed by experienced techs. I will be going there again when my car needs to be repaired.

I broke down near by and managed to get the car started and in their parking lot. I dont live anywhere near Sterling, and I told them I had to get it running. The Sterling Team was very concerned that I was going to have to drive back to the city and wanted to make sure that I was safe. They felt very assured that the issue was a one time occurance and felt good to send me on my way. The entire staff was professional and courteous.

I had my car towed to Sterling because it was close to where I was broken down and because I read a lot of positive reviews. Please dont believe the positive reviews!!!! They were really nice and accomidating a first, but things changed when they couldnt fix my car properly. Before I allowed them to work on my car I asked them specifically if what they were proposing would fix my car and they said yes. I mentioned this to them because I didnt want to dump a bunch of money into it, otherwise I would use that money towards a new vehicle. This just proves their greed and overpriced rates. Long story short, I had to bring my car back 4 times and they still couldnt get it fixed. They let me use their company truck a couple of times, but after the first time they told me I had to fill it with gas otherwise theyd charge me. This was their fault that I brought it back so many times....what about the gas I had to spend going back and forth several times! Then they determined that they needed to fix something else AND they were going to charge me with no discounts whatsoever. Remember, they guaranteed me it would be fixed the first time. I ended up getting rid of the car, but want people to know that this company is overpriced, not willing to stand behind their work and hard to work with! This is all based on my experience and is my opinion, but do yourself a favor, save the headache and go somewhere with a good reputation!

I completely lost all electrical power in my truck and was stranded with a load of frozen goods. Sterling put me in contact with their towing service and got me to the shop quickly. My truck was diagnosed with a bad alternator and battery. Repairs were completed the same day and I was back on the road.

My car was being serviced at the Dealership and another famous repair center for the last two years after my recent move to Aurora/Naperville. When I explained my cars problems, Technicians from above facilities were fixing and suggesting new repairs constantly - that were not effective but also expensive. After doing research, I realized that the suggested repairs were NOT NEEDED.Read the reviews on this wonderful facility while searching for a more reliable automotive repair center. Spoke to John (big thanks) from this facility about the problems on my car and also hinted told about unwanted repair suggestions. He provided me with exact work that needed to be done and an estimate (BTW it was few hundreds of $ cheaper). I was bit skeptical but went ahead. I am so happy that my car is running like NEW.With new found confidence, I took my wifes car and she was extremely happy with her car too. That decision made me to write this review to spread the good job that this facility did on our vehicles.

THE BEST AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR

There always so friendly and whenever I get an oil change they makes sure everything is in good shape.

After reading all of the reviews, I noticed two patterns:1. I work as a marketing director, it is very odd when almost ALL of your reviews are 5 stars, no 4s no 3s JUST FIVES...usually means the reviews are fabricated.2. The people who DID have negative reviews experienced the same thing that I did...Sterling was unable to repair their car/not able to get the parts.Sterling had my car for two weeks, meanwhile I was stuck searching online for the part that THEY were unable to find. I finally broke down and had AAA tow the car elsewhere. Before the car was towed I was charged $860.00 for...I dont know, as the car wasnt repaired and they STILL havent given me a receipt (I had to pay via phone because I was at work, they close at 5...) They were instructed at that time to put a receipt in the glove box for the next shop to review...which never happened.After the car was towed to another shop, I was informed I needed a new battery because the new shop couldnt start the car...which would be fine, except I brought the car in for a brake issue. I called Sterling about this, and I was told Yeah, that happens when your car sits for two weeks. Excuse me sir, no, it happens when the keys are left in the ignition with the electric on for two weeks (cost to me to replace $165)Needless to say, the second shop had the car fixed in two days, and only charged me $690 (including said battery). So let me get this straight, STERLING made more money off of me then the shop that actually got my car on the road? Hmmmmmmm...this raised questions. So again, I requested the receipt...its been two days, still no receipt.If I do not get any word from them by tomorrow afternoon 7/9/14, I will be reporting them to AAA (whom had my car towed there) and I will also be reporting them to VISA. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!

Didnt tell me they were going to charge me $100 for testing the electrical and charging the battery. Did good work though. I just thought Id have been told if it was over $20 before getting charged.Edit: wow, just talked to the owner. Hes giving me a partial refund because I should have been told about the diagnostic costs. Nice guy.Just a note, I have no problem paying for work being done but nobody likes a surprise.

I had transmission trouble on my 2005 Saturn Vue (clips broke holding manual transmission cables) and with a trip planned the next week I was a little freaked about getting parts and having the car repaired on time.Needless to say John and his shop took care of me. They even tried to see if there was some way to Jerry rig a solution for me to drive it in case parts took a while to get. They were able to get 1,3,5 working but I opted at their recommendation to just wait for three parts and luckily they came in only a day.While I was there i got to witness some of the customers on a first name basis with the owner which says a lot to me about the trust and professionalism of Sterling Automotive repair.I would go there again for sure.David h

Highly recommended to friends and family. Ive been taking my cars here for years, I lived in Naperville about three years back, now I live west of Yorkville and still bring my cars to them. They have great service and a friendly staff just recently had my radiator fix a couple days ago plus I like the fact i get emails telling me that my car is due for services.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. They diagnosed my problem quickly and offered discounts to assist me with repairs.

It was a very good service, they take care of my car, very well every time I had an appointment with them, the last time was a minor issue with a break light alarm, but the Manager called me to say that they will fix it on my next visit, what is going to be next week.

I had substantial front-end work done to my 2012 Prius C and Sterling Automotive did a fantastic job for a fair price I am a repeat customer I highly recommend them

So I went to these guys about a year ago, and I just discovered something that was done to my car by them that pushed me over the edge to write this rating.I bring in my 2001 BMW because there is some engine knocking. They replace O2 sensor yadda yadda OK. Drive it for 1 mile, knocking comes back. Bring it in again, they say spark plugs need replacing... OK theyre kind of old and I also get some oil gaskets replaced while your at it. Drive it for a few miles, knocking returns. Come back a THIRD time and they say they have to play with the computers. What the hell? At this point Ive already put about $1,100 into this repair. I leave after the third time, and when I get home, realize they didnt put the plastic covering over my engine. Go back, get the engine cover. Oh wait, they didnt put the caps over the screws that attach the cover over the engine. I go back now (5th time) and they can only find one of the two covers. I am glad they fixed the knocking, but at least test drive my vehicle before giving it back to me. My guess is MAYBE the O2 sensor was faulty, spark plugs had nothing to do with it.Oh and, a year later, guess what I find out? My left kidney grill (the ones all BMWs have) falls out when I close my hood. I look and all 6 of the latches have fractured and are gone. Upon closer inspection, I see that someone has glued it on with black sealer putty, in 6 globs where the fractures were. So not only do they suck at fixing cars, cheat you just like the dealer, but also break things in your car and glue it back, hoping you dont notice.!@#$ you.

I should have learned from my first visit. Brought my car in to have the clutch replaced. They failed to do an alignment lafterwards, and I later found out that they misthreaded a part on my axle so that and the wheel hub needed to be replaced when I had other work done. Next trip was for engine trouble. (Dont ever come to these guys for engine trouble! All they do is search Alldata to try to figure it out. After taking about 2-3 guesses from there, theyll tell you its your computer.) Anyway, long story short... After a month and a half and a $1200 bill I got my car back. A week later the same problem came back. I cut my losses and didnt even bother with these guys again. Took my car elsewhere and had it diagnosed and repaired in only 1 day for $20. Turns out I just needed some gunk cleaned out from my engine. So, maybe you can trust these guys for the normal Jiffy Lube stuff (I wouldnt), but if you need diagnostics and real work done go elsewhere.
