Was a nice treat to get before going to Hunting Island for the afternoon. Has a great view and quaint sitting areas. We ordered two lattes, gf brownie for me, and a chocolate chip canoli for the husband. We plan to go again.
Okay coffee and panini was good, but lady who took my order was very impersonal, borderline rude..likely a transplant from New York or California because thats how people act like in the south. Dont bring your nasty New York vibe down here lady. Pretty sure she overcharged me too, so passive aggressive and unscrupulous to boot. The woman who delivered the panini was wonderful, so almost compensated for the woke joke..probably a Biden voter (nasty people). Wouldnt return based on her.
Im pretty bummed to say my last two experiences with common ground havent been the best. Today my coffee tasted burnt and had coffee grounds in it. My muffin was pretty dry. The staff was friendly though. I think it will be a while before I return again.I am impressed at how fast this business reached out after my review! Im changing to a 4 star because of this. They are eager to figure out what happened and how to fix it.
We had breakfast here and the quiche was wonderful! My friend got the chicken salad sandwich and said it was amazing.
Good place for passing by or eating outside, the inside is a little too loud and chaotic looking. When I came in, half the shop was sealed off limits to the customers, to discourage them from sitting or hanging out inside. Thats bad for distancing because it makes it more crowded in the smaller corner of the shop where you pick up your coffee. It is nice to be able to access a clean toilet, and get a good latte. I wished the space wasnt that tight, but you can always grab to go given the shop location.
Went to go get a coffee on this beautiful day in beautiful downtown Beaufort when we walked up to the door had a employee grab the door and lock it right in our face when the business hours on the door say they close at 9pm besides that don’t be rude and grab the door and lock it have a little respect and say sorry we are closed or something.
Delicious panini sandwiches, below average espresso drinks (cappuccino was more like a mildly coffee flavored latte 🙂), friendly service. Good smoothies. It is a good breakfast option in Beaufort, so it still gets 4 stars.
My friend went in and was ordered to wear a mask. There is no government mandate for masks now. IF this is your policy you lost my business. I will not do business with mask mandators. Medical places I understand. Food places? Forget it.
DO NOT EAT HERE OR YOU WILL DIE FROM FOOD POISONING!!!My daughter and I stopped here at 12:30 on Sunday May 2, 2021. She had the tomato pie and I had a chicken salad sandwich and both had lattes. We felt so sick we barely made it home. I threw up and had diarrhea and she had diarrhea. I continued to be sick all afternoon into today Monday. She recovered last night. I guess the chicken salad was more deadly than the tomato pie.Staff nice and view great but the briskness needs the health department to look it over.
Lovely little coffee shop on the riverfront. Had an espresso macchiato, my sister had a late. Both were tasty. Im picky about my coffee and approve of both the beans and the skill of the barista! The pastries all look tasty, the blueberry muffin was good. They also have a nice breakfast and lunch menu. Plenty of seating inside while still being cozy and a nice al fresco patio is available with a good view of the river.
Common Ground Market Place Cafe and Coffehouse in Beaufort is a great place to get a great cup of coffee, some desserts, baked goods, or even some really good gelato. The location is very convenient in the middle of Beaufort and is walking distance to just about anywhere, but is very close to the waterfront park and is only steps away to take an item like the gelato to the park after you order. I like the way the store is organized and layed out as there is multiple entrances and exits and all of the items are displayed very nicely to entice. The staff here is very helpful and patient when you are ordering and not able to choose right away because there are so many good things to choose from. Overall this is an awesome place that I look forward to returning to soon.
Excellent espresso drinks! We had iced Americanos, and they were not too watered down, nor too sweet with syrup. Will definitely visit again when were in Beaufort!
Edited: boosted to 3 stars due to quick response from management that shows true care!Decided not to stick around because 1) the selection in the pastry case was limited - no tomato pie, 2) things seemed to be moving really slowly, and 3) despite a posted sign requiring masks, an blatantly unmasked customer walked next to me on her way out.
Atmosphere was good and the water front location was pretty. Their latte’s were okay and the peach scone was tasty. The tomato pie was delicious but one of them was not heated through as the inside was cold. A little on the pricey side for what you get. The employee was polite but who we believe was the manager was short and unfriendly to someone with a mask exemption.
We rented an air b&b for my moms 70th birthday, surprise luau and all! Went to town to shop before her bday dinner and wanted something light. We stumbled upon the Common Ground and I ordered a tomato pie. OMG! Ive had tomato pies before but this was ridiculously good!! So creamy, delish!! Highly reecommend!! Go early b/c I believe its available until they run out.
Total WOKE disaster of a business. Avoid at all costs. Parker’s has much better coffee at half the price.
I was excited to experience this cafe in my travels, as it looked like a cute location. I’m sad to say I had a horrible experience.Shortly, after we got there a few customers came in and there was only one person working the cafe... I could tell she was flustered. We had ordered quite a bit: 3 lattes, 3 cookies, 3 pies and a sandwich which totaled a whopping $58.The hot lattes cups were broken on the bottom- the coffee leaking through and we had to get another cup to prevent the leaking. Once I tasted the latte it was clearly burnt. The cookies had a fish oil taste to them and the pies were all luke warm- barely heated and did not taste fresh.Shortly after eating some of it the three of us got queasy stomaches and opted to throw out all of it. I spent a lot of money which I had to throw out due to unclean espresso machine and an upset stomach. It was very disappointing. Definitely, would not recommend.
The ladies there were so friendly. This was our first time there and asked a bunch of questions. We ended up going back for a smoothie later on. Sugar free coffee options also available.
Only one person making drinks, lots of people waiting. Very slow service 😞
Pretty much the smallest scoop of gelato Ive ever seen haha. I think Ive been given samples that big before. Everything else was okay but not great.
Amazing Iced Chai lattes and quiche! So yummy and fair priced. Cute atmosphere with a perfect outdoor patio. They are taking COVID seriously and made us feel very comfortable and safe. Will definitely be back :)!
Everything looked fine on their website.
Customized my drink order without any problem. The barista pulled great tasting espresso shots.
Coffee, food, and service was great. Has a great view from the back deck!
Have visited twice and both were reasonably good experiences. Charming little shop. I havent been here enough to get a great feel for the place, but I was a little surprised the second time back on Veterans Day weekend 2019. We were there on a Saturday morning around 10am and the line was 25 deep. This is great for business, but there were only 2 people working the entire operation - they were both doing point of sale, making special coffee drinks, retrieving food from the kitchen, heating food, etc. So, yes its great to have that much demand, but I want to believe that at least 2 people called in sick that morning and the other 2 were left to fend off the masses. They gave it their all but it really wasnt enough.All-in-all, great location on the river, good coffee and tea, nice interior, good food and small bites. They are really the only coffee game on Bay Street, so if you want something like this, there is nowhere else to go.Note to owner: make sure you have backup employees to avoid 20+ minute waits for coffee.
This is a pretty typical little coffee shop. They have all the usual mixed coffee drinks, as well as a few basic sandwiches, and a nice selection of sweets. Its right on the beach and right outside the park. The drinks we had were well made (iced Chai), and not too expensive. Would go again.
Nice coffee shop in downtown Beaufort right on the River. Great selection of savory and sweet pastries as well as sandwiches in addition to their hand crafted coffee and tea drinks. Inside and outside seating.
We tried the frozen cookies & cream and hot Turtle...wow amazing! Love this coffee!
Very cute and clean coffee shop. The coffee was hot and fresh. The double chocolate muffin was delicious!
Smooth coffee and the ham and green onion quiche was GREAT!!
Love it. Great customer service. Very satisfied with the menu choices. Good selection of food both hot and cold. A+++ for a more comfortable seating area with a excellent atmosphere from regulars.
Courteous service with genuine kindness, great coffee, tasty treats, and a view of the waterfront make this a wonderful spot for java-lovers visiting Ladys Island. Clean and cozy, its perfect for a solitary wanderer, smitten couples, and growing families. Liketo read? Theyve got a selection of books. Want to play a game? Youll find a few here as well. Each time I visit, I find another reason to return.
I had a sandwich and chips one evening. Not much of a selection for dinner. I sat at the outdoor seating area. It was comfortable and quiet, and afforded a pleasant view of the water and boardwalk area, with the bridge to Ladys Island a few hundred yards away. The sandwich was pretty good, and the servers were friendly. I enjoyed the evening here.
The iced coffee and the strawberry cream smoothie were both very good, however the service was a bit lacking. The associates were a bit short with us, and not very pleasant.
Beaufort has very little to do so this place is a pleasant go-to.
We stopped in after finishing Janets Walking History Tour for a coffee and little something from their bakery. We got a cold brew and the tomato pie with bacon. Wow was it great! The line was LONG because it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon but they were moving so fast and the wait was not bad whatsoever. We will definitely be back!
You have never thought that comfort would be so close to your heart until you walk in common grounds. The coffee is second to none. The employees are amazing and treat everyone the same. Wonderful Danish, ice cream and keesh. This place is a must if your in Beaufort SC.
Great views from the porch and a wide variety at this coffee spot. Theres something for everyone from gelato to pastries and of course coffee. Plenty of seating and just all around good vibe. Staff is friendly and helpful in directing you to a good coffee selection based on your preferences.
Look forward to stopping in for a frozen coffee with whipped cream every year when we come to Beaufort. We try to see how many times we can get in during the week. I love the quaint coffee shop with beautiful views of the water. Its the best!
I dont live in the area, but visit with family multiple times a year. This coffee shop is one of the best in the area
My mocha was a perfect blend of espresso and chocolate flavors! It would be my go-to place if I lived here.
Really cool view from the shop! Coffee is great! Sweet touch with the map full of pins!
Love the coffee shop. Loved the staff that made my drink. Loved my coffee . You need to watch the parking meter. The City of Beaufort will give you a ten dollar ticket.
They claim on their website to have updated the kitchen in 2006 so they could have house made food ready on demand whenever but their Baker is never there so unless you order a sandwich from my experience it’s a 1 in 5 shot at getting something you really want :/. On the upside when you can get it it’s good and some of the only reasonably priced food in town. But like I said it’s only happened one out of the 5 times I’ve been there in the last 3 weeks which is very disappointing.
Took one star off for service. They get backed up and arent very efficient in dealing with crowds. That said, their gelato is lovely! I hear the coffee is good too. One day, I must try.
Always great!
Delicious Gelato 😋 with excellent customer service
Amazing coffee flavors and comfortable atmosphere, love sitting outside where you can look at the beautiful view of the water and boats. Cant wait to go back again.
Great for a morning coffee, quick bite for lunch, or to satisfy your sweet tooth! When the weather is nice, I enjoy sitting out on the patio with my dogs and sipping on a German chocolate mocha while I study. The beautiful waterfront views arent too bad either!
Came during winter so didnt fully get to enjoy the park and bay view just outside, but its still a really nice, cozy stop. Friendly, friendly people here. Im a coffee nerd with high expectations, so the brew - to me - was just okay. I understand this isnt a craft spot... yet its definitely far better than Starbucks. I would surely return on my next visit. Its charming here.
I absolutely love this place. Friendly staff and great coffee. Put this place on the top of your list of places to visit in Beaufort!
Common Ground is the only sit down coffee shop/study spot in downtown Beaufort and it struggles to balance the pedestrian crowd with those looking for refuge. The sandwiches, gelato, and coffee bar all crammed into a tight space can be overwhelming. Overall, Common Ground seems not to know its identity.
Really good coffee, really pretty view. I’ve never been disappointed.
OMG, I didnt think that the ice cream around here could get any better. I was wrong.
Great atmosphere as soon a I walked in I was greeted with smiling face. Great place to grab a snack as you scroll the seawall.
Got the vanilla gelato and played checkers with my girlfriend. We split the half pint because its a better deal. The coffee is a good value because its unlimited and you have a choice of 3 varieties. Cream and sugar are also easily accessible and unlimited as well. Nice outdoor seating and board games to keep you entertained. Downtown on the water provides a nice view while enjoying gelato and coffee.
The best tomato pie!!! Twenty five teachers from my school descended on them at 7:00am and they served us all without complaining. I’ll go back!
Good gelato, nice variety of other stuff available. I got a latte also, which was tasty. Kinda pricey, but in a nice location for taking a walk/eating by the water.
Im sorry to say this but I can only give this place 3 out of 5 stars. It is not because of the food or location all that is great. It is the price hike that has drop it down. I am on a limited budget so my money is tight. But I do treat myself once in awhile. Now it looks like it is only going to be a mug of coffee. Do not get me wrong this is a great place, this is not Hilton Head so why do we now have tourist prices.
Gelato was a hit, cannolis were perfect, and the honey cake was AWESOME. The gentleman working the counter this afternoon was so personable, even when the line started backing up. We come here every time we visit Beaufort and I have never been disappointed.
Chose to support a local establishment instead of going to a chain coffee shop for my regular morning cup o joe, while in the area on business. Had I known there were free refills on the drip coffee, I wouldve stayed longer and probably had breakfast before leaving, too. Will definitely return next time Im in town.
Great service and a nice drink....I ordered an iced latte....better than Starbucks for sure...all done with that wonderful southern charm
This is one of our favorite places to visit when we come to Beaufort. Friendly service, delicious gelato, and a great view of the water. Like any good coffee shop it feels comfortable and welcoming.
Its great coffee. Cozy environment. The best part is the open mic performances on Friday nights. Great place to sit and watch the boats go by while enjoying a nice cup of coffee.
Love their coffee! Tried their lavender latte, very well done! Great spot to stop by in Beaufort. Friendly staff!
I was visiting the area for the weekend and found this place. I ordered a simple latte, and it was wonderful. Cute atmosphere and great location!
The coffee here was so good. Im not even a coffee drinker but I really loved it. And the service was very fast. There were probably 15 people in line but Dee had a smile on her face and got through everyone so quickly despite being totally swamped.
Very popular. If you dont drink dairy this coffee shop has an extensive list of alternatives.
Great coffee and a good vibe. Check them out!
Came here to grab a quick bite before a friends wedding. Got an iced mocha latte and the turkey and pesto panini. Amazing food, wonderful atmosphere and lovely people. A little pricy but well worth it!
Love the coffee here and sitting on the porch watching dolphins in the river.
Fantastic friendly service and great coffee. Ive tried a number of the pastries and desserts, and the only one that didnt impress me was the crumb cake. The Rugala is good, and so are the muffins. And again, cant beat the coffee/espresso.Once youve got your coffee, if you dont like being stuck indoors, theres a nice porch, or you can walk along the riverfront. Nothing better than sitting in the swinging benches out on the riverfront, enjoying a mocha and the great view.
Great local breakfast spot with waterfront views. Breakfast items were savory and good. They do offer lots of bakery items too.
Love there coffee!!! They make every coffee drink you can think of. They also have gelato, cheesecake, cookies, brownies, and more.... Breakfast and lunch too!! All around great place to chill!
A great coffee shop, with plenty of great options, and choices. Along with some of the best baristas around!
Had ic d coffee, and a breakfast biscuit. All good, ate outside to enjoy view of river and people watch.
Good servers. Good drinks. Great Gelato. Decent prices. Nice environment. Right in the water.
Great products!
The pastries were delicious but customer service was poor.
Best Gelato Ive ever had. The Cherry Truffle and Dark Chocolate is incredible. Great coffee and espresso too. Love this place
It’s the perfect place to drop a few holiday pounds because they serve the smallest scoops of gelato in the whole wide world.
Such a sweet place and great coffee and gelato!
Great service! Amazing people and even more amazing beverages and selections
Excellent sandwiches! I ordered chicken sandwich and it was absolutely yummy. Very much recommend this place for lunches.
GREAT staff and BEAUTIFUL view . GOD BLESS
Great place for a bite to eat, gelato or coffee. Indoor and outdoor sitting. Home made buttermilk biscuits, chicken pot pie. Yummy coffees. Winner!
