I love this shop! It is very organized and professional. Andrew was able to get us in quickly and was great about staying in contact and communicating. I thought the prices were very reasonable and work was done efficiently and well. We will definitely be back. I was referred to this shop by my old mechanic, who shut down his own business, and I wasn’t disappointed. Andrew and his guys, went over my truck with a fine tooth comb, and identified all the issues I need to address too keep my Old Chevy, running, reliable, and smooth, on the road. The pricing was competitive, the repairs made were major, and extensive, but I want too keep my old truck, I like her, and now she is running like a top. Just found my permanent shop.

Ive taken my Land Cruiser here twice now—once to diagnose and repair a collection of issues, and once for a straightforward starter replacement. In both cases: the interactions were pleasant, the work was done to a meticulous standard (in a surprisingly short amount of time), and Ive had no issues since. Would recommend without a second thought.

Car was leaking oil so I brought it in to Flat Black for assessment, as well as for a 100,000 mile service. Andrew called me up within only a few hours of dropping it off, with a thorough estimation of the work required to fix the leaks (and damage caused by the leaks), and the cost. They also found that my car was leaking transmission fluid and would require a new radiator. 12 year old vehicles, what can I say? Andrew was 100% professional, honest, gave me the full rundown of what needed to be done and more importantly WHY, and scheduled the work to maximize labor efficiency. The new radiator had to be ordered and arrived within a day, and I had my car back in less than a day and a half. Just took her out of town for a long drive and she is working perfectly. These guys put pride in their work and it shows. Their quick, cheerful, and thorough communication was also very much appreciated. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Excellent experience all the way. I will be going to them for all of my future car repairs.

We were looking for a local independent shop we can trust, and are happy we found Flat Black. They fixed an oil leak in our Nissan Pathfinder, installed an automatic transmission cooler and put in a new serpentine belt at a reasonable cost. They also adjusted the coilovers on our Jetta Sportwagen for a better ride height, again at a decent price. Theyre friendly, will clearly explain whatever needs doing and why and wont try to gouge you with unnecessary repairs. Their techs are experienced with both domestics and imports.

My Jeep had a serious oil leak going on; luckily it was an easy fix but they took great care of my Jeep not knowing what the issue was. . They had my Jeep looked at and fixed within an hour after I had dropped it off. These guys are the go-to for Toyota Trucks... The previous owner ran an ultralight oil in the transmission and shredded the gears in my 2001 Tacoma 5spd 6cycle. Flat Black replaced the transmission, fly wheel, and clutch. It is better than its ever been! The professionalism and care they showed, throughout the transaction is absolutely evident in the outcome. The communication was exactly what youd hope for from any vendor. I cannot recommend them enough.

Nothing worse then mice chewing the electrical in your car, the unknowns or discovery work one would say. This would leave a lot of room for some mechanics to up prices for long shop time. Not flat Black they had my car back on the road with a full explanation of where they looked what the found and for a price that was extremely fair. I take a lot of pride in my car and they did as well, will definitely be back if I have any more issues I need help with.

Flat Black was super helpful, especially since I couldn’t find a good shop that would take in my BMW. My car had a ton of problems that they helped diagnose without scamming me out of service. The associate even had other shop recommendations for certain repairs. We were very well taken care of!

My check engine light came on during my drive up to Bellingham from Portland. They were able to get me in ASAP fix my problem, and send me back down to Portland. Very honest and good people. If they had a shop in Portland I would use them every chance I got!

These guys did my brakes and a vacuum leak repair. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking to get anything done on their vehicle. They are clearly very highly qualified, thorough and professional. Mostly though I appreciated their transparency, honesty, and communication when it came to my repair... they always were proactive with calling, telling me what was up, what the costs would be... they were also very generous about billing and rounded down when it came to time and services! Ill be trusting these guys with my Tacoma in the future.Important background: I had taken my truck to another shop in Bellingham who was subpar for reasons I wont get into other than that they said my vacuum leak was inside my booster and that it would cost ~$500 to repair. I took it to Flat Black for a second opinion. They were knowledgeable enough to know very quickly that Toyotas need a gasket between the booster and master cylinder--something the other shop had forgotten to put in when they replaced my master cylinder. They ended up putting in the $2 gasket instead of replacing the $500 booster and now my truck runs great! Also, stellar job on the brakes. Just a little anecdote about what finding a professional and honest shop can save you in the long run.

I have used this service several times. I believe they are honest about repairs needed and also not needed. I was in on time, no waiting at all, which is important for busy people. I will continue to use this service in the future.

Brought my vehicle in for an intermittent start issue that acts up very inconsistently. I dropped it off after closing, and was called by Andrew shortly after they opened the next morning. I visited the shop and ran him through what I could describe. He was very personable and very transparent about the difficulties with pinpointing intermittent starts. From the beginning, he explained he could not guarantee solving the issue immediately, but we went together to check out my car. He Immediately acknowledged some of the minor work we had done previously trying to solve the issue, which I appreciated without me even pointing it out. Andrew was very attentive and took any details I could give him seriously, even though I am not mechanically inclined at all, and kept open communication about status updates. He also squeezed my car into their very busy schedule. Unfortunately, my car did not act up while at the shop, and he was very clear that he does not like guessing and charging people for parts and labor to have them find out that it wasn’t the reason for the intermittent starts, but called and wanted to be clear if I would want to get a quote for what he could only suspect may be the culprit. My vehicle was desperately due for that same maintenance regardless, so I had no qualms going forward after how attentive, sincere, and professional Andrew and Flat Black Auto has been.

I didn’t have an appointment but I came in with a leaking radiator and Andrew was able to replace it for me pretty quickly. Would recommend this shop to anyone because of the great service. I plan on using this shop for any of my future repair needs!

After the fiasco I have had to deal with at Nissan since they were bought out, I had to try to find a more reputable mechanic and my friend recommended Flat Black. Scott is very friendly, honest and helpful. I ended up having to have a brake flush despite the fact that Nissan claimed they did it. Never again. Scott was honest with me about what needed to be done and his honesty is why I continue to go there. I highly recommend his shop which is now on Iowa Street.

I stopped in Bellingham for a few days while on a road trip and needed to get my car checked out before continuing since I was hearing clunking sounds near my right wheel. I called 4 mechanics who were all bookedfor the whole week and would not see me, even after telling them my story and that I was trying to get back on the road the next day. One of them recommended I call Flat Black. When I told Andrew my situation he said to bring my car in ASAP and he would fit me in. He was so friendly, helpful and showed me the problem. He assured me it sounded worse than it was, got the replacement part I needed anyway, fixed my car, and I was on my way within a few hours. Thank you Andrew!
