This liquor store is legendary. They pretty much have everything. Furthermore they feature trendy cocktail combinations if you need some last minute inspiration!

I would give this place a five star review if it werent for the manager Sherry. As an uneducated person in the beer industry I had a few simple questions that seem to really annoy Sherry. I simply asked for her recommendation on a beer that was similar to the one that I brought in. She got extremely frustrated that I wasnt as knowledgeable as her and walked away from me leaving me feeling helpless as a customer. Luckily for me the employee was much nicer and seemed well more educated than Sherry. I will continue to shop here but I wanted to let the owners know that Sherry is the wrong person to be managing such a beautiful store.

Great small-scale tap room. I went there for a parent social. It was a perfect choice. There was a small but tight selection of beers on the menu. The bartender was friendly and helpful, letting me sample a lot of beers. In spite of it being mostly full of people, I still got excellent service. I liked the classic beer ad wall decor in the bathroom. I hope we have other socials here in the future.

This used to be a dank, dirty little corner liquor store. Now its a great beer pub with tasty beers on draft AND a very nice liquor store.

From its unassuming exterior, I wouldve never imagined what a polished and sophisticated display of high quality liquors would be inside. It felt like stumbling onto a first-rate speakeasy, and I found the rare French pear liqueur Ive been looking for everywhere. With a helpful and friendly staff, whats not to love?

This might be the best liquor store in Oakland/Berkeley. They carry an excellent selection of craft beers & ciders, a small but extremely well curated selection of wines, and a truly PHENOMENAL selection of spirits. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful and there is also a small bar attached to the store pouring a variety of lovely libations.

Since I dont drink alcohol, I never went into this store. But today I sought a round container, offered for free like the square ones outside in a bit, to put paint brushes in. Cheerful, helpful staff. Found good quality citrus squeezer and zester, and lots of bitters, non alcoholic sodas and imported non alcoholic botanical gin & whiskey. Ill be back.

I always enjoy browsing through this shop even if I dont specifically need anything. The staff are friendly and helpful and there are interesting tasting events. The pricing seems competitive as well.

I love that they sell all Venus/Wayward here. Other than that obsession, it’s still my favorite Cask store. Great organization. Delicious bitters. Above all, the employees take the cake. I believe it was Heather who walked me through the whisky section. Total classy badass. I’m blanking on other names but they’re amazing as well.

Really nice store with a fine selection of wines and whiskey. The beer selections isnt great but the rest is perfect.

Pretty good selection of Whiskey though if youre looking for other things like hard to find Rums you might be out of luck. They do have a few other things like Gin, and Mezcal but I found more of the offerings were limited.

EDIT: Im really excited to be able to update this review. I wasnt happy giving the review I did before because I really wanted to like Cask. Luckily, theyve made a lot of changes and really improved the store. Ill describe and review the tasting room and store separately. They are both worth a visit.Tasting Room (5 out of 5) -The location has gone through a major redesign to include a new beer/wine tasting room thats open beyond the regular store hours. The selection in the tasting room is limited compared to a full craft wine/beer bars but well curated and a great place in the neighborhood to stop for a drink. Also, the tasting room just has a great look and feel. Ive gone here just for drinks over other bars in the areas. No food but its a tasting room, so I wasnt expecting any. Their drink menu is on their website and seems to be up to date.One thing I dont know is if they allow purchased beer or wine from the store to be opened in the tasting room. Might be a nice feature but check with someone first before you try it. Unfortunately the tasting room is only licensed for beer and wine, so dont expect to taste any of the spirits. They do offer spirits tasting in the store and Ill talk about that below.Store (Overall experience 5 out of 5 | Beer section 4 out of 5 | Whiskey section 4.5 out of 5) -For the store, Ill focus on the whiskey and beer sections because I know them better. Below Ill also review the staff and in-store tastings. I believe theyve improved both of the beer and whiskey sections since I wrote my first review. The beer selection is now solid but not breathtaking. Worth stopping in for something but probably wont be my first stop if Im looking for something hard to find. For whiskey, their selection is now pretty strong. Without counting bottles, it felt like they had more American whiskies than Scotches or other international whisky but they had a good amount of both. Similar to the tasting room, the selection isnt the best Ive seen but seems well curated and covers most regions and tastes. Pro tip: If youre trying to find something specific, check their website first. They keep up with their stock on their website for all three locations. Unfortunately they do not have their beer stock up on the website. They also ship wine and spirits. Ive never tried it but its an option.In-store tasting (5 out of 5) -Cask does weekly spirits/beer tastings. Check their website or Instagram to see what theyre offering. I did one whiskey tasting here with Hillrock distillery (they make a very nice burbon worth trying). The master distiller, Dave Pickerell - close to lengendary status in the industry, was here and was great to talk to. It was an awesome experience at a great price (free!). Ill definitely be coming back for more tasting and recommend others to do the same.Staff (7 out of 5) -The staff here are excellent. They all seem very knowledgeable and care about people finding the right drink for whatever occasion theyre shopping for. Side note, Ive talked to more than one distiller that has spoken very highly of Cask as an institution. Now that doesnt come from just good sales, you got to have great people to get that sort of praise.Ways they could improve:Most of my issues now are with their online presence. First, I would like to see further out notice on their in-store tasting online. Right now I cant even see what they are offering next weekend. Im sure Ive missed out on some really good tasting because of this and their Instagram doesnt help because its oftentimes posted day of and has sometimes left off the tasting at this location. It would also be nice if they put the dates on their blog. Thats pretty minor but Id be interested in knowing when the blogs were written. In the stores themselves, I would never say no to a bigger selection and lower prices. However, thats life and I feel like where they are right now still make this a very good store worth visiting.
