I very like this place! The owner is so friendly, sweet, and kind same as Lyla (the cat) but when I got there she was just sleeping in her place next to the owner. Like the shop name “Sleepy Cat Books” But she still let me touch her. The owner is also very nice, he answered all my questions that about Lyla (because I was more interested in her than the books 😂) and also helps me find places to adopt cats. And I also got some books that not that expensive and I think its a great value. I highly recommend it!!

This bookstore is simply amazing. The options to choose from feel super personal (and you get the best of every genre). The store itself is extremely cozy (which is exactly the feel I look for in a bookstore) and the fact that there are cute cats there. COUNT ME IN. I am beyond happy that this store exists in all its glory. Fully recommend. It’s just so worth it.

This little bookstore is simply magnificent. lyla is truly wonderful and so is the shop itself. the postcards are what Im there for most often, but the books are pretty sweet too!

I love this shop!! They had a wonderful selection of used books in good condition, and at fair prices :) Additionally, the store itself is so cute, and the presence of a sleepy cat definitely adds to the vibe. The person who helped me behind the counter was very polite. Definitely stop by!

Visited this store today, store is preety impressive, nice owner, limited books but the taste of owner is enough for a reader to see the variety of books. Sleepy cats is another best thing in the store. I will say this is the kind of store I want when I retire.

Nice bookstore, neatly kept, with two sleepy cats. Worth a browse. Owner was polite and the store is well laid out. Not a huge selection but the books on offer were very clean and the prices were good.

Walked in today after reading all the glowing reviews, seems to have changed alot. There is now a guy in charge of the shop who is very protective of the cat. Made me feel instantly uncomfortable and like a horrible person for trying to stop buy and see a kitty and books. According to him the cat in the shop is a do not pet cat.

I love this bookstore. The owner is delightful. His choice of books mirrors mine, regardless of genre. I live in Moraga but drive to Orinda frequently, always stopping in at Canettis. I never leave there with less than 3 books and I own a Kindle! Special orders come in quickly. I hope everyone in Lamorinda gets behind this small bookshop and its owner. Edit: now I hope everyone in Berkeley (oh, gosh, I have to go through the tunnel, stop at Cheeseboard, lunch at Chez P) gets behind this shop. The owner is quiet but charming, very helpful. Support him, please! We need independent book stores.
