Would give this place 0 stars if possible. I took my bike in last year for a tune-up and they didn’t have my bike when I came to pick it up. Bike was not secured properly and was stolen. Manager said he would “make things right” but the insurance offer for my bike was laughable and I used my own property insurance. (Hint: COVID made used bikes *more* expensive given supply chain issues—I’m actually finally getting a replacement after a year). I wouldn’t trust this place with my kid’s cheap bike let alone a bike of any value. Terrible, negligent service.
I had a great experience with them. Prior to coming here, I visited another local bike shop, Griffin Cycle, and I hated it there. Griffin Cycle refused to work on my bike so I walked over to Big Wheel Bikes. Without hesitation, they were willing to work on my bike, despite it being an average bike. The employees were really friendly, honest, and reassured me that my bike would get patched up and running again. It is clear they do not discriminate based on what bike you ride and that they are considerate of how you feel as a customer. I did not feel that with Griffin Cycle. Definitely try this place too, as it is considerably cheaper and the quality of their work is great.
The website does not describe their services accurately. The store did not open on Friday at 10:00 am. The doors opened at 11:15 am. They do not have adult helmets to go with rentals. Today they had only three childrens helmets.
We contacted Brian regarding some warranty work for one of our customers. Brian was very responsive and his prices were very reasonable. The repair was done in a very timely manner and our customer was very pleased with service (and so were we). From one industry professional to another, thank you for such great service. We look forward to referring your shop to other customers and working with you again in the future. It was a great experience, beginning to end.Leon Cycle Team - Seattle, WA
Caveat emptor ... some serious customer service and integrity issues. In Feb 2021, I called the Bethesda store to buy a bicycle and put one on backorder (with a credit card deposit). The same day, I bought another bicycle at the Arlington store. I called the Bethesda store back, and they assured me that the deposit would be promptly returned. Its now July, and I still dont have the refund. Many promises have been made; all broken (literally, the check is in the mail ... but no check). The store staff have been polite and apologetic. They referred me to the store owner, but calls to him have gone unanswered.Do business with this store at your own risk.
Worst customer experience I have ever had, very rude, abrupt and lie when items come in.
First time having my road bike fixed here. Really nice staff. Between answering incessant phone calls and questions from a neighborhood kid with flat tires, the store manager adjusted my front and rear derailleurs while I was waiting. This is the kind of neighborhood shop that makes you feel good about living here.
First, Patrice rocks -- recently he was super helpful when I ran in to have a flat tire fixed. The shop is wonderful, reasonable, and the staff knows their stuff. Highly recommend!
Great customer service. Brought my brand new bike that I had put together myself, and was making a noise when shifting. Brian took the bike in agreed to take a look at it without making me wait for three weeks, which is how long you have to wait to get your bike tuned up. Granted I did not need much work done. But I appreciated the willingness to help me out and letting me enjoy my new bike. Thank you Brian!
I had an 18 year old mountain bike which served me well until I realized we are in quarantine and my only salvation was to go out on my bike, albeit with a mask and all, few times a week and realized it was too heavy and too slow for me. Living in Bethesda I looked around and decided to give Big Wheel a shot as most reviews were great. I stopped by with my wife one afternoon and spent a few minutes with Evan and Brian who gave me a crash course on different bikes and showed me a Scott Speedster which I picked to test ride. Next morning I bought the bike and went on a 16 mile ride which I loved. Fast forward few weeks later and a friend of mine ordered a bike online which was a gift for Fathers Day so she shipped it to my house to keep it a surprise. It got here on Wednesday with only few days left until Sunday. I called Big Wheels and spoke with Brian who said he would assemble it for me quickly if I dropped it off soon which I did within few minutes as I live close by. So this was yesterday around 1 pm and today around noon when I called to see when it would be done Brian said it was ready to be picked up! I cant tell you how happy my friend was to hear the job was done so quickly and efficiently by Brian and his crew. These guys are super stars and deliver on what they promise which is not to be taken lightly in this day and age when everyone is short fused and has high expectations. I would highly recommend Big Wheel in Bethesda to anyone looking for anything bike-related at a no nonsense and friendly place run by bunch of great guys.
These young folks are running a busy shop in a such a great way. I was trying to unscrew the pedals in two of my bikes for 3 days without any success. I took them to their shop and it was done immediately free of charge. Got really impressed. Highly recommend the Big Wheels Bikes.
I have a 25 year-old Specialized Hard Rock bike that received extraordinary attention and at a very reasonable price. After years of being dormant, I am pleased to be riding again thanks to the exceptional service offered by Brian and others at Big Wheel Bikes. Other bicycle service centers wanted to give me an estimate and hold onto the bike for a protracted period. I highly recommend Big Wheel Bikes to service your bike.Gerald
Such great service. I felt welcomed and treated so generously. The young man who quickly fixed my brakes helped me get my bike in and out of my SUV. I’m a loyal customer from now on!
I had a great experience at Big Wheel Bikes and would highly recommend the store. Im sure all of the employees were great but Brian helped us (multiple times in one weekend) and he was patient, spent time answering all of our questions and guiding us in the right direction. We had a lot of work done across 3 bikes and they ready within two hours on a busy and beautiful summer weekend. To top it off we were very pleasantly surprised when we got the total - the prices are very reasonable. Weve lived in the area for many years and are so excited we visited Big Wheel Bikes. We will never go anywhere else!
Amazing customer service🚲 my bike was making noise when shifting gears Max was able to fix the issue as well as educate me on how to properly shift my gears. Everyone that works here is so knowledgeable, the positive energy and laughter is a added plus.....as long as Max and Oscar work here, they definitely have a customer for life and I will be referring my friends to the shop. STAY SAFE, HEALTHY AND BLESSED ❤️🚲❤️
Big Wheel Bikes is my new favorite local bike shop. Ive been buying accessories there for years when I passed through on the Capital Crescent, but this time, I needed some work done. Brian was great. Nice staff. Quick and spot-on diagnosis, easy to deal with, fair price. My bike runs tight as new. Brings a smile to my face when i shift and dig in, now. Thanks, guys.
Ive been to Big Wheel Bikes twice in the past week - unlike some other LBS experiences Ive had, they prioritize the customer over the work they have going on. Today, they did a quick service on my brake rotors at no charge. And Brian is great!
Highly impressed with the customer service and shop! Brian, Evan and Max helped me on my SE bike. ALL of the employees were extremely knowledgeable. Huge thank you to Brian the manager for taking me in last minute too! This is def the shop to go to if you want your bike in tip top shape. Thank you Brian, Evan, and Max!
The staff was super helpful and informative. Great service from friendly people who really know their stuff. This is easily the best bike shop in Bethesda. Thanks so much guys!
The Bethesda store is awesome - I go here to get my scott addict maintained all the time. Brian is super knowledgeable and takes care of my bike. Very cost conscious and only recommends what is needed. Also takes care of small things for me at no charge! Turn around on servicing is super fast. Ive been to the other bike shops around Bethesda, but would recommend big wheels out of all of them.
I bought 3 bikes for myself and kids here and regularly come for service. This is a cool shop with pleasant, customer friendly and knowledgeable people. Always pleasure to come by look at new things while waiting for my hikes being service. The shop has competitive prices and they will always take good care of you. Today I was helped by Brian. He fixed my tube in 10 min and I am back on the go. Thank you Big Wheel Bikes!
They are amazing! I came in asking to help inflate mydaughter’s tires and they not only did that but also adjusted the seat! Now they are helping to give my daughter the confidence to ride the bike without any training wheels! Thanks for going the extra step and making biking for her and me a great experience 🤗
Brian and Evan were wildly helpful!! Such a great experience— they were quick and extremely responsive. They were full of recommendations and friendly. Will come here for every bike fix I need!
Got great service again today at Big Wheel Bikes in Bethesda. While other shops need a week or two to fix minor issues, Brian and the team on Arlington Road have always fixed flats and made adjustments for me same-day. I highly recommend these guys!
Unbelievably helpful staff that went out of their way to help on an issue that was in no way their duty to help with. Impressed to say the least. Great group, timely in the fix, and thought outside of the box to get me back out on the trails ASAP.
This place is a hidden gem. Despite being here for years, i never went in until i needed a pandemic bike repair. Great service, quick fix and the price is absolutely right. Evan was great and I cant wait until they have bikes in stock again and I will be back.f
Amazing place. Managed to jam my chain into the gears so far I couldnt even pry it out with tools. Took it in last Saturday and they had it back up and running in 3 minutes. Didnt catch the guys name but Im appreciative of the whole staff.
Can’t say enough about the customer service. More than once on my commute home, I’ve pulled off the Capital Crescent Trail to drop by Big Wheel Bikes for a needed repair or adjustment. They always took me as a walk-in and quickly back out on the trail.Recently consulted with Brian on a new purchase. He recommended simple modifications to fit my dimensions and riding style. Small changes added up to a big difference in riding comfort. I highly recommend Brian and the Big Wheel team to anyone searching for a Local Bike Guy.
Very fair prices compared to the other local shops. They are also open earlier!! 10am on Saturday. We’ll probably make this our go to spot while we live in Bethesda. 🚵🏽♀️
Best shop in the game for the Bethesda area. The staff was very nice and were fast with service! Highly recommend them to everyone with bike needs.
Paid $90.00 for a tune up and it felt like I brought my bicycle in and was handed the same thing back. Rode it once down the Crescent Trail to Georgetown and back to Bethesda. The next time I take it out the rear brakes are off. Wont ever go back to this place.
Great service! Brian took the time to help me adjust my handlebars and seat...advise me on lights, and answer all my questions about my bike. I really appreciate the friendly and affordable bike care! It’s a great neighborhood bike shop.
Fantastic service! Very knowledgeable staff. Brian great serviced my bottom bracket bearings and didnt charge for it. Highly recommended!
I bought a Scott Speedster gravel bike there a little more than a year ago. Superior, rapid and affordable service with a smile. Work done when promised. I challenge you to find a better local bike shop. Check them out.
I have visited this place when I had a flat and was also interested in looking to transition into getting a road bike. They staff were very helpful with suggestions regarding my current hybrid. Definitely looking forward to purchasing a road bike at this location.
Effective, friendly, and efficient service. They were more than happy to answer any questions, and took care of my issue with no trouble
Went in, and said theyd have a bike for me in a few hours... TWO AND A HALF DAYS later its finally ready, and when I get home with the bike, its scratched, they didnt give me a key for the lock, and didnt install the lights I payed for.
Stopped by to get a spoke after breaking one riding. Got great tips on how to replace it and even threw in a spare one for the next time. Felt welcome. Thank you !
These people are so nice. I stopped by because I popped the back tire to my mountain bike. I got there but didnt have a mask so I just stood in the doorway. I helped me even though I didnt have a mask. The man took 1 minute to grab the tire tub and charged me less than what it cost. I will defiantly be returning in the future. As a thirteen year old, I am always messing up stuff on my bike.
Great staff, very knowledgeable and helpful. I came in with two kid bikes and they did small repairs on the spot...for free! Bought a bottle holder and left paying $5. Will definitely go back and can recommend it to everyone.
These guys are really fantastic -- whether its servicing my bike, switching over to tubeless tires, buying a used bike for my son, or just walking in with no appointment to fix a flat and immediately being helped, they always come through. Cant recommend them highly enough!
I needed a stem spacer and the gentleman who helped me was terrific. Great store.
I took a starter bike in with jammed pedals to be fixed. I thought the entire bike had to be taken apart to fix it. Bryan took it and had it fixed in 5 minutes and I was on my way. No charge! Great service!
In, out, no fuss, friendly staff.
Great neighborhood bike store! A few weeks ago, I brought in my bike after an accident, and they fixed it for free on the spot! Local business at its best!
As an avid road cyclist I highly recommend the mechanics at this shop. Their tune ups are spot on. They are knowledgeable and their fees are fair. I had a good communication with the manager and they deliver good service.
Terrific personal service. The staff has worked super hard to address issues with my bike and get it back on the road quickly. Highly recommended!
Great experience. Shop is nice, owner helpful. Owner suggested a route and even came outside to point me in the right direction. That means a lot when youre from out of town and dont know your way.Biking DC is awesome! I saw everything I wanted to see in one afternoon! If you are renting a bike in DC, do yourself a favor and see these guys. They will hook you up with a good bike and set you on your way. Highly recommended.
I took my bike in to Big Wheel Bikes to have the rear cassette and chain replaced. They quoted me $330 to do the job (parts and labor). I took the bike around the corner to Griffin Cycles and paid $120. You decide where you want to shop but I will never be going back to Big Wheel Bikes.I would encourage customers to review any estimates closely for unnecessary charges. Maybe they thought because Im a woman that I wouldnt know better. And when I raised concern about the high price they tried to tell me that I could check with the competition but that they would take more than a week to service the bike...guess what the shop around the corner took the bike the next day and got it back to me in two days for 1/3 of the price. Shame on you Big Wheel Bikes. Also in response to the comments by the owner of Big Wheel Bikes, he did call me and admitted that there were some improper handling‘s on this side of Big Wheel Bikes. He asked me to please change the number of stars that I had given them which I actually went and did but have since gone back and changed due to his very unprofessional reply below. He is in fact right his shop was going to charge me $30 for cleaning my bike, a tuneup that was not necessary and replacing the front large chain ring which was also not necessary. Please do not contact me in anyway again.
Bought my new Scott Speedster S20 from Big Wheel. I love the bike and I had done plenty of research on my own before purchasing from Big Wheel. They knew even more than I did about the bike and it has turned out to be a great purchase for me. I love the bike and the service that I got was excellent and the price was right! I give these guys top marks all around!
Had a great experience with this bike store. We rented bikes and had a lovely afternoon with our friends who live in Rockville. Bikes were in excellent condition and price was right. I spent about $20 per bike for the afternoon. It was money well spent! Great way to spend a day! Thanks, Big Wheel.
I bought a bike for the Salvation Army Angel Tree and soon discovered that I was missing a critical bolt to attach the wheel. When I brought the bike by last minute, Big Wheel Bikes helped find me exactly what I was looking for free of charge. Hands down, best customer service experience of my life.
Stopped by during a narrow window of time in hopes of quickly trading up my current ride. Brian was totally on it. Within minutes he sized up my riding needs (speed, trails, roads distance) and in one swipe directed my to the right serious upgrade. More money than I wanted to spend but Brian pointed to specific features that I needed/wanted and — after a long nonstop ride weekend — he was only right. I’m quitting my job and moving onto this unit full time. If she had a set of wings I know she would fly. Really appreciate expertise and efficiency.
Excellent experience and best customer service around. They fit us for bikes and our whole family had a fun afternoon peddling around the area. Brian and Mike are great!
I was in Virginia on business and had a few hours between meetings. I went over to Big Wheel and rented a bike. The bike was a really nice one and everything went smoothly with the rental. I had tight time constraints but the rental process was seamless. I will be back and this time I may look to buy a bike from them!
Nice, clean shop. Very knowledgeable staff. Super patient. Good prices. This is why I give Big Wheel 5 stars. I would give them 10 if I could. Great bike shop.
I am in the market for a new Marin bike. The guys at the Big Wheel have been very helpful and patient as I figure out the best model for myself.I’m pretty sure I know which model to get and will be returning this week to buy it from Big Wheel. Prices are excellent here as is the expertise and guidance.
Terrible Service,I looked online for a bike, then called and when I started talking the vendor cut me off, without even asking for what I was looking for and the first thing he said was I do not have bicycled in stock that are less than $1,000.It is insulting, even more when he didnt even ask what my budget was (Now Im wondering it is was an assumption based on my accent...)
Good knowledgeable employees which treat people well and they know their stuff!
Patrice was incredibly helpful and understanding of my bike! Totally coming back to this place 100%!
I am giving 4 stars based off of the other reviews honestly. I didnt like the atmosphere of this shop. Felt like I was treated like I was second rate because of the bike I brought in.
We rented bikes from Big Wheel and it was a very positive experience. They were informative as to bike routes and the store is a nice environment. They were obviously knowledgeable about the merchandise. We will definitely go back...maybe to buy bikes from Big Wheel!
This is my go to bike shop. Has been for years. You cant go wrong doing business with Brian and his crew!
The shop and the staff are great. I had an issue with the handlebar, they checked and fixed for me for free. All the staff are very friendly and down to earth. Highly recommend it. Will go back for bike needs.
Very friendly service today. I popped something on my front brake and guy at the counter fixed it with pliers in a few minutes and refused to let me pay him. Neighborly.
We were up in DC for vacation and I brought our family to Big Wheel to rent bikes. They were very helpful and fitted all my 5 family members with bikes that were perfect for them. They also gave us advice for good bike routes to take. I am thinking of ordering a new bike from them as I felt confident in their expertise.
Big guy. Needed a big guy Road Bike. They said they’d call me if they found one. As promised they found one. Sized me up. Big guy loved bike. Purchased it. Big guy had great experience.
We are very pleased with both the bikes and the service that we received from Big Wheel. I purchased a Marin Kentfield and my husband bought a Scott Speedster. We love the bikes and have enjoyed our outings this summer. You wont beat the level of professionalism of the people at Big Wheel.
I have only made two calls phone and one visit. No more of either will be happening. I asked about a part and if it were in stock. Whoever answered, didnt even provide his name. He had a very sarcastic tone. Saying if you know the exact details and what you want. Just order it online. To bad performance bike isnt around. I never had a bad experience with them being a customer.
Went to buy a tube for my bike on Sunday. They helped give me some tips on how to change it on my own and set me up with the tools and such I needed. Will definitely return for any biking needs. People there are awesome!
I had a problem with the brakes on my bike. I brought it in to Big Wheel and they assessed the problem right away. I priced the repair at a couple of bike places before realizing that Big Wheels price was the lowest and they seemed the most knowledgeable. They actually got the work done ahead of schedule. I was very pleased with the service.
Great experience. I had a problem with my brakes. They fixed them quickly and well. I will definitely go back for any and all of my bike needs.
I needed to get the brakes on my son’s bike readjusted and they did it in less than 5 minutes! Great service and so friendly!
Good variety of bikes and good service
Very friendly and good prices for service
Good people and service i like this bike shop.
I was there this morning, looking for an handlebar adapter. The mechanic, a young guy, serve me with the part i was looking for.Ok nothing complicate but anyway service fast and cheap.I was at this shop 3 more times in the past months every time for minor issues but they always solved them
We were with friends in Bethesda and we always rent from Big Wheel. Now Im in the market for a new bike. The helpers at the store know sooo much about bikes.I went through what I was looking for and they gave me 3 options. They all look great. Now I am pondering which one I want and will be back tomorrow to buy. They are extremely nice and helpful at this store so I look forward to the big day tomorrow. Oh, also, the prices are quite competitive. This is my go-to bike store.
Just went to this store for the first time. Customer service was exceptional. I had a problem with my bike that they fixed right away. Very impressive and I will go back.
I brought my bike in for repairs last time I was in Bethesda and they did a great job. So much so, that when it was time to buy a new bike for my daughter, I knew just where to go. I think that Big Wheel is a step above other bike stores and count on them for all my bike needs.
Great experience with the shop every time I visit. If youre lucky Brian will be there, he and other staff are very knowledgeable and work with you really well.
I had a great service from these guys ! I went there for a childs trailer and the store manager gave me the best deal! Thank you guys!
I bought a Kona Bike from Big Wheel Bikes. I had a very positive experience. In fact the manager let me test ride all the bikes that I was considering purchasing. Even instructed me through the key points of each of the bike brands while test riding. I have been to both the Bethesda and Arlington locations for tune ups and they have helped me immediately with any request. This is a great local small shop where I have felt like part of the bike community. Huge Positive!!
Collin and Jonathan were working when we went in for our bike trip rental. Both were kind, well informed, very patient, and just very nice in general. The shop has a pretty decent selection for rental as well as sale and is clean, well maintained and inviting. Thanks guys!
Meh. Bought a bike here couple of years ago. Brakes were completely out of alignment. Headset was loose. Store has a rapidly rotating crew of employees who have minimal training and seem more interested in talking to each other about their latest tattoos than customers. There are much more reliable and pleasant bike shop options just a couple of blocks away.
I had a great experience renting a bike here. Dmitri went the extra mile to make sure I had what I needed for my ride, including loaning me a tool and an ear covering (it was 35 and windy, and I wouldnt have lasted 20 minutes without it.) The bike itself was a surprisingly good deal ($7 an hour including helmet, lock, and addition of SPD pedals). I was expecting the usual old/clunky rental that most bike shops offer, but this one was new, well-tuned, and extremely lightweight for a hybrid. Compared to a nearby shop Id stopped in earlier, Big Wheel offered better rates and was much more willing to help. I had a wonderful ride and will definitely be back next time Im in town; it sounds like they also offer a range of road and mountain bikes for rent.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
The guys at the Bethesda location are great. Jonathan and Collin were both well informed, patient, and nice. Good selection and just overall really nice service and atmosphere
Brought my bike in for repair and turnaround and service was quite good. I am very pleased and have their number in my speed dial should I ever have problems with my bike again. I would rate Big Wheel a 10 if I could !
Bought new bike from big wheel a month ago. the staff at big wheel gave me a great deal on a Fuji and set me up with all the necessary gear. Ive been plagued with flat tires and I just got hooked up with a new tube and tire. the friendly staff always helps me out promptly even though I show up 5 minutes before closing.highly recommended!
Wooow. Great service
Came in with a flat, figured i had to leave it. TJ fixed it in 10, showed me some Marin and Fujis. Terrific personal service. will buy my next bike from these guys.
Went in needing a break cable for a project of mine and they where super nice gave me about 3 feet of cable for free awesome!
Great shop. The staff is knowledgeable and very nice. Great selection of bikes as well!
Great staff.Very helpful and kind people.I had an accident and they fixed my bike in a couple of days.Cheapest in town!
Stopped and asked for help with air ... no dice.
Best bike service in the city hands down
I went three times today to have my tire fixed. Third time I go, serviceman leaves a flat tire unchanged saying he changed and fixed it: bad customer experience.
Been a customer 3 times, mainly out of convenience. Each time a different problem. Two repairs botched. One of them was a simple handle bar retaping. The other was when I needed a new handle bar. They did the job, but the bike had a lose stem when they returned it. I almost hit the pavement as my bike went down (on the ride home, no less). In terms of sales, the owner is rude and disinterested. Tried to charge me twice for the same thing, then acted as if he were doing me a favor when he corrected the problem. You cant even count on them for simple stuff (tubes, adaptors, etc), as they overcharge for these, and the quality of these items is very low. This shop isnt interested in supporting a customer base. Its just an old man squeezing a few more dollars out of his shop before he sells it. Very sad...
Great down to earth bicycle shop. If you need your average chain, tire, tube, or bike part theres a good chance theyll have it. Reasonably priced considering theyre located in Bethesda. The shop did lack some of the high-end components I was looking for. But I would certainly go there to get parts to fix up a townie bike, beach cruiser, or commuter. VERY friendly and knowledgeable staff. Its a small shop, but they had a surprisingly diverse selection of bikes from mtb, road, and even tri. I enjoyed stopping in the shop and would definitely go back.
