This store has a really solid selection of plant based food. These are not all in one place, but scattered around the store. Kroger seems big on the new plant based burgers that are coming out, and has their own product, called Emerge, as well as Lightlife and Beyond Burger. The non-dairy cheeze selection is a little light, with mainly Daiya; Id like to see Miyokos and Follow Your Heart. Non-dairy yogurt is good, but it would be great if they added So Delicious. I buy a lot of Amys Kitchen frozen meals, and these were in different locations, rather than all in one place. So its worth hunting around to find them. The selection could be a little better, but so far, its the best all in one place shopping for plant based foods in Blacksburg.
I feel like this is the best Kroger location in the area, and I have always been satisfied shopping here. They offer a much better selection of products than the alternative grocery stores, and it always is an clean place to shop as well. The deli is also amazing. I would give a 5 star review, but the fact that there is apparently a bar here that serves alcohol is a detracting factor for me. I am of the opinion that a bar does not belong in a grocery store where children are present often, I just think theres something not right about that.
Very large Kroger by some other good busiensses like Starbucks. I had the curbside pickup option this time. Haley or maybe her name was Harley brought the order. Super prompt and kind. No complaints at all. Ill do this again in the future
I come grocery shopping here at least once a week. It is clearly the most superior grocery store in Blacksburg by a landslide. The produce section is massive and always well organized and fresh. The bakery is great and always smells delicious. There is even a sushi, salad, and alcohol bar! This place has everything. Also the deals are great and saving points to get discounted gas is really easy. I would 100% recommend this Kroger location to anyone who lives in Blacksburg or even Christiansburg
Love this KrogerI come from Giles 2x a month
Ive had to use the Click List numerous times now, and the order is correct maybe once or twice out of all of them. I loathe this system and the near requirement of it. Where there are probably individuals to place blame depending on the event, I view it as the system as a whole is only semi-functional. The policies, if any, are not evident or available to the paying consumers. If youre going to have inexperienced shoppers/pickers retrieving the goods off the shelves, they will require training and guidance as they have no lived experience. There needs to be plans in place to communicate to consumers regarding their order, and plans on how to correct issues when they happen.Todays experience has me very much contemplating Waltmart+, and I detest Walmart. With really only three options for groceries in the area, the consumers are left choosing the least worst out of the bunch. I know Kroger wont care, this is one review out of 681. However, my only voice is my choice on where to spend my money.
Busy Sunday noontime and they have womens restroom blocked for floor buffing cleaning and no alternative.
Great produce and lots of local products. The local ice cream is the best! Only complaint is there’s no contactless payment like Apple Pay. I’ve forgotten my wallet numerous times. It sucks having to go back. Everyone else has it. Please update your tech Kroger
Add more tables to the beer wine section. 2 tables is ridiculous when you could clearly add more.
This Kroger in one word: HUGE. It may be the biggest Kroger in my area, although Christiansburg and Bonsack arent that far off. Its almost a Kroger Marketplace! Apparently known as the Gucci Kroger to the locals; since I live in Franklin County, I obviously wasnt aware of that until I prepared to write this review! This was one of three Krogers converted from a Harris-Teeter (the others were at Towers Mall in Roanoke and at Cave Spring in Roanoke County). H-T used to have something of a presence in my area but mysteriously pulled out in the 1990s. This becomes ironic when you realize that Kroger bought out H-T recently!Hilariously, the Kroger logo isnt used on the storefront; instead, we have a Eurostile-ish getup similar to the block letters that Superstore Krogers had back in the day. Also hilariously, it uses a custom interior scheme in which it bills itself as Kroger in the Burg and mashes up the fresh and local schemes Kroger Marketplace variant with Virginia Tech symbols. Its pretty much a tourist trap for the Hokie football crowd, but people like me who are actually aware of the University City Kroger (an actual Superstore) thats actually located near Virginia Tech arent fooled! =PFinally, the Fuel Center uses a non-traditional setup that even has a Subway in it. Only one other Kroger Fuel Center I know of has the attendant window transformed into a full-blown convenience store like the Tom Thumb model they tried in Florida, and thats the one at the Mid-Atlantic headquarters on Peters Creek Road in Roanoke.
Pick up workers (click list) will put a pack of sliced cheese in a bag by itself, but put a oaf of bread in a paper bag with cans. WTH. I am so tired of pick up. There are so many cars though Im not going in. Do the workers in that area really care about my groceries? Nope. Ok Kroger @Gables if they dont care about their job find ppl that might. I am going to have to go to Food Lion because I am so SICK of complaining to my family about Kroger. I have been doing pick up since March and I have had enough. Maybe the Earthfare that is coming down the road soon will make the manager want to straighten things up.
In my opinion, not only is this the best Kroger, its also the best grocery store in both the Roanoke and New River Valleys. It has the largest variety of groceries that I have seen. If youre looking for it, this Kroger probably has it. The store is also kept very clean and organized, with friendly employees to top it off. Its worth the drive to get there!
You will probably find whatever type of food you are looking for here. They have several choices for almost everything. Decent organic/natural foods/healthy stuff section, competing with Eats Natural Foods and Annie Kays. Large selection of beer and wine (though from talking to some of the employees some certain alcoholic drinks are only available at their location on University Mall). Includes a Subway store, baked goods section, produce, meats (frozen and fresh), deli, kitchen ware, seasonal items, home goods, pet supplies, personal care items, and more. Friendly and helpful staff, open 24 hours. During the day they have free samples of sushi, cheese, cold cut meats, etc. We have run into an issue with the cereal aisle being understocked several times but this usually isnt too much of an issue. Prices seem to be fairly competitive, possibly slightly higher than, say, Food Lion. Conveniently located on South Main street near many neighborhoods, and as such it can be crowded at times. Also has a pharmacy and several other services in the front. Check the back shelf between the produce and meat sections for managers specials. Two self checkout areas available, though these seem to close at later hours. Overall a very solid grocery store, I do the vast majority of my grocery shopping here.
Some might feel this Kroger is a bit too large, but once youre used to it, its not a problem. I tend to avoid a lot of processed foods, so I shop the edges most anyway. Theres some items that might be cheaper at Food Lion, but its probably my favorite local grocery due to the selection. They have a pretty good organic and specialty foods section that includes my favorite gluten free bread, bulk nuts, etc. They have a decent sushi selection. Id love to see support for local farm goods, but I wont hold my breath. Ill continue to get those at the Farmers Market, Oasis, and the health food stores.
Theyre in the process of reorganizing right now, but this Kroger is well stocked and clean. The new beer/wine bar is a great addition and you can do 5 free tastings while youre there! Love getting fresh shredded cheese at the cheese station 👍
Gigantic warehouse of a Supermarket, in the Fashionable and Trendy South End of Blacksburg. Huge frozen foods section, floral department, pharmacy, flu shots and other immunizations available, excellent bistro restaurant, big delicatessen, very large wine & cheese section, a major produce area. Their bakery can have that decorated cake perfect and ready for your next event. Groceries, household needs/cleaning supplies, cosmetics and hygiene necessities. A big store - You will likely find whatever you need here!
My family and I love this Kroger. We drive past two other Krogers to get to this one. Its the biggest Kroger I have ever been in, with more options than one could imagine. Even with its size, it is the most organized and easy to navigate Kroger I have ever been in! Love it!
The nicer Kroger in town. For being a standard supermarket, its about as good as you could ask for. Prices are very good, and they often have a lot of sales each week. Solid selection of natural/organic food products. Produce selection could be a big bigger, but has all the essentials
Employees are always friendly and helpful, even with stupid questions. The aisles are always neat and organized. The only drawback is I miss the separated organic section but now that Ive figured out that they put those items under green signs in the normal aisles Im pretty used to it. This is the grocery store in town to go to for more uncommon items. Theyre more likely to carry a broad spectrum of brands too.
Kroger offers a huge selection of foods, beverages, fresh produce, and other home needs. My experience has been positive for the most part. The layout of the products has recently changed so its an adjustment to find what you are looking for. Sometimes what I need is not in stock. Otherwise my needs are fulfilled.
Love this place since the renovation! It was where I usually grocery shopped before but now I hardly go anywhere else. The staff is much more friendly & helpful than in most stores. The selection is fantastic. They stay busy all the time but shelves are usually stocked well. The high volume turnover of stock means items are usually fresh.
Check out the $2 and $3 pints of craft beers on offer in the beer and wine tasting area! Where are you going to find a deal like this? You cant beat this. Very nice!
I bought the perch on sale. The price was cheap, but it had the ammonia smell after cooking.
Definitely the best grocery store in the area!
Lots of selection, great prices. Wonderful staff. The store is always clean and with the exception of finding Coke Zero on a game day the products you want are always in stock.
Beautiful store and friendly staff. I was here recently and an elderly woman fell and cut herself. She was immediately swarmed by staff members seeking to help in anyway. There are several self check lanes which aids in checkout times.
This place is perfect during the summer when the students are gone, but during school season its very often a huge disappointment. You would think their ability to meet supply and demand would be perfected by now, being used to students wiping everything out...but no, I frequently go in there to find all my favorite products unavailable. Sometimes even the whole paper towel and toilet paper aisle. And the unavailability of products seems random and not necessarily correlated with an event. Either they need more stocking help or they need to be getting merchandise in more frequently.
One of the nicest grocery stores Ive ever been in. It has all the features you could want. A bar, scan as you go, self checkout, great selection, and a nice area for prepared food.
I always enjoy shopping here; they are fully stocked and have helpful people who are easy to find. I asked the butcher about halal meat, and he very generously offered to order some!
My preferred grocery shopping place. Sophisticated and friendly
While it is a larger store they are often out of many of the produce items. And forget about finding help if you have a question, the employees completely ignore you unless you accost them. Sad that it is still one of the better grocery stores in the area.
Couldnt find familiar items due to the remodeling. Took twice as long for my shopping trip. Never did find Cool Whip. Dont like new white tile floors. Always look dirty!
Great place to shop I love it. But they made a mistake by stopping breakfast at university location. And having the same items for lunch and dinner every day of the week. Portion size decreased but the price didnt whats a fat boy to do ???
This Kroger used to be a Harris Teeter and it shows. Its far larger and far better stocked than the average Kroger. They gave a huge wine/beer section and tons of great seafood.
Locally nicknamed Gucci Kroger this store has lots to offer including a great selection of organics and a sushi bar. Its conveniently located and though it is often busy it is well staffed and wait times are short.
Ive been impressed by many of the changes at Kroger. Quality of goods is generally high, the bistro is quite good. Prices could be more competitive though.
Also known as the Gucci Kroger. Excellent variety of items. The pharmacy is the best at providing personal service and bending over backwards to give you what you need.
Wide variety of anything you could think of!
The store is super amazingly clean...This store has a lot of different variety of selection of foods which is really awesome...However I went there kind of late at night and the staff seemed like they need a shot of happiness... But it could be they just tired...I picked up a bag of chicken tenders which was a mistake late at night because obviously theyve have been sitting around for quite a while and they were dry as a bone but I was hungry anyhow so what the heck... it just made them a little chewy!
HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!!! The management and certain employees (cheese department) are highly discrimatory to the college students that shop there! This is highly disappointing especially since the store resides in a college town.My girlfriend and I attempted to purchase a block of cheese but had it TAKEN RIGHT OUT OF OUR CART by an employee without asking! When we went to express our concerns about the situation the manager (His name is Mike), he had no interest in listening to us, sided solely with his employee, and shoved us away! Both employees clearly showed ageism towards us!!!This situation was highly disappointing and will deter me from returning to the store ever again. You can not discriminate against the largest proportion of clients you see....COLLEGE STUDENTS!
Got some Fresh delicious Cajun sushi! And just made Fresh Apple fritters and cinnamon twists:) Cannot say enough great things about Blacksburg Kroger!
How does the larger Kroger seem to have less selection than the smaller one? Anytime I need to buy gluten free stuff I come away frustrated and disappointed. Go to the University city Boulevard Kroger. Youll be happier
I work here this my work 👪. Johnathon James deli manager Gallo Bakery Trish and Sammi Good ppl great service
I came into Kroger attempting to get 3 prescriptions filled at the pharmacy. The lady I initially spoke to was rude from the beginning. Then there was an issue with my insurance and they refused to help. Told me to contact them myself, which I tried to do and could not get through. The lady pretty much said oh well you can pay the full amount which was well over 100$ And I said I may try Walgreens and she said it doesn’t matter there’s nothing they could do for me either. So I asked for my script back and she turned and ignored me and resumed talking to the pharmacist. I had to another lady sitting down to grab my prescription, since the one I was dealing with chose to ignore me. I finally get my stuff back and went straight to Walgreens. They had contacted my insurance company and had the script filled by the time I got there. I only paid $17, when Kroger tried everything to make me pay the full amount without insurance. I normally go here for groceries and everything, yet I will NEVER shop here again.
Best selection around. Prices are typically a little higher than other grocery stores. Aisles can be a little tight.
Gorgeous store! Brenna in the bakery was super helpful in planning our sons recital reception.
Great location lots of variety and way cheaper then the Kroger on university city Blvd the only reason i did not give it a 5 star was because somethings were hard to find but other then that no complaints
I ordered a cake for my husbands birthday and it came horrible with the decoration falling off... I would never recommend!
Store was easy to navigate and Emily at the self checkout was very helpful and friendly. This Kroger is far better than the other one by tech
My favorite grocery store in Blacksburg. Nice displays, good deli and bakery. Nice service and pretty fast checkout even when busy.
Large grocery store with great selection. Has plenty of check out lanes that are usually well staffed. Staff are friendly and helpful when needed.
Really friendly and helpful staff. You can find all the important grocery items in here. Fresh fruits and veggies
Huge store! I never have trouble getting help if needed. I rarely leave without finding what I came to buy. Largest Craft Adult beverage selection around.
This is the Gucci Kroger, as the students say. It has a larger selection of meats, cheeses, organic products, and delicious products than its smaller brother/sister store on university. This store is clean, well-lit, easy to navigate, and the staff are friendly.
Theres a reason locals call this the Gucci Kroger. Great selection of groceries, but the cheese, wine, and beer selection are exceptional. The food from the deli is very good.
Great Kroger! Clean, lots of variety, with quick service.
I live in Roanoke but stop here and shop for my daughter at tech. This Kroger is the best one ever!! I hope the remodel at my Bonsack Kroger gets me all the things this store has. Ill never shop Walmart for food again
By far the best Kroger in the New River. Way better than the ones in Christiansburg and Radford.
Great sales! Not too crowded usually. Lots of parking. Easy to navigate. Nothing at all like that crowded hell-hole Kroger in Christiansburg.
Great place to shop. Has great savings and coupons!
Nice store. Great prices. Employees are always friendly and helpful.
This is the most spacious kroger in town. Decent food options. They need to incorporate more local foods though.
Always clean and well stocked. Nice variety of everything.
This is the best grocery store in blacksburg. There is no contest. Nowhere else has the great selection of everything.
Great prices especially if combined with the kroger app digital coupons
Absolutely love this Kroger! They have everything! Great selection of organic foods! Amazing meat selection too!
Same story every time ... 12 people working in the deli section and only one is helping customers. Thank goodness Woody is so pleasant and helpful. This store is like lipstick on a pig.
Products quality is very good. In general, cashiers, merchandisers and managers are into customer delight service.
Beautiful grocery store with a good selection of produce, prepared foods, beer and wine along with the normal grocery store fare.
Wonderful place to shop. Large grocery selection including organic and natural foods.
Kroger University Blacksburg and Kroger South Main Blacksburg are the finest, warehouse sized, large variety supermarkets in the Blacksburg area - from basic grocery needs, household/personal necessities to gourmet foods. These stores are of the very tip top quality in the grocery industry. Specialty areas include pharmacy, meat-seafood, dairy, frozen, bakery, deli with various prepared buffet selections, produce, floral, wine aisle/shop, beer aisle, International. Seasonal merchandise, big candy section, large on greeting card options, household - laundry, cleaners, hardware, automotive, school & office are all major in force at these two stores.Different management teams - but same philosophy and insistence on the very best in grocery shopping for you - the customer.
Kroger is awesome and this Kroger is exceptional. It is huge and has a large selection. There is a good deli area for lunch with sushi and a large cheese selection.
Cons:- their prices are a higher than Walmart and Food Lion- (probably not a con for most) a few months back, they changed the store layout, which totally screwed up all the items Id programmed into my shopping list appPros:- produce is almost always fresh- excellent sushi platters, if thats your thing- love their antipasto bar- recently installed a build your own 6 pack section (though I wish they would rotate the beers sometimes)- There is a clearance shelf right next to the produce section. I love this because theres literally no telling what might show up there. Ive bought $2 t-shirts, $5 bottles of wine (that were twice as much before), $1 loaves of artisan bread, heavily discounted fruit (apples, bananas, oranges), and the list goes on and on. Often things show up there for pennies on the dollar that arent even sold in this story regularly, which really appeals to the degenerate gambler in me.tldr; Gucci Kroger is the best Kroger
I do not frequent grocery store cause can afford grocercies and actually stopped in for break as I figured my plan back home to christiansburg.now Ive been a few times before but long before the salad bar was moved.........Im from another State, so I havent known this place long. Many Alumi and Locals alike have a special name for this wonder world....My encounter was met withgreat awe and assurance. This place was cleaned with a detailed hand and a delicate cloth and most likely a special ordered polish. every section of this place stood out.ever sight was captivating. every single product category presented me with a bulk of options, comparable to those out outlet/flagship stores....but it was like a mini outlet mall in every section. 98.7% of this store was FuLL100% in ALL. full stock, FuLLy clean, FuLLy organized, fuLLy Staffed and Fully engaged.Ive honestly have seen many or any retail grocery outlet like this ... They must have a time that does Front Facing Rounds every 15/30/mins- 1hr.dont understand people who miss out on this ... YeS ... the GooChee Kroger it is...and from my experience, I take that to mean: Nothing More Than Great. No one bothered me either or gave any awkward stares staff or engaged shop members...it was a very refreshing tour and breeze walk as I mazed my way in and out at random from a long walk. Very Awesome place to explore and shop. I encourage anyone and to go confirm how accommodating, amusing, and awesome it truly is.
Great variety, but somewhat higher prices than other grocery chains.
Great selection and quality produce. When using the app and the kroger card it is possible to get really good discounts.
Great grocery store. Always clean, shelves are generally stocked. Good selection.
Its Gucci Kroger! The best of everything including prices. Its a nice store thats constantly evolving and getting better.
I feel like there price range for fresh produce is a little bit higher then the produce in Food Lion, although the later store doesnt have much variety.
Awesome! The bar inside was great too and the people were nice.
Jay is a very sweet bagger and helped me to the car. Offered to do other things. Thank you for a sweet nice ladies. Karren also helped.
Good experience overall, star off for poor/mostly broken wifi, no android/apple pay, and their apparent inability to cook a rotisserie chicken in their deli (weve gotten multiple over the years that were still quite raw inside)
Store is under remodel but I found everything I needed. I love the new color scheme.
Very bad experiences with bakery I order two cakes they were very badly Decorated they fell apart at the store and they tried to fix it but still fell apart, it was not made the way I asked, they left off spiderman kit and on my other cake they left off animals around the cake so sad lazy bakery crew, and they only give 10 percent off the two cakes 😡 my kids were sad when they saw their cake fell apart very embarrassing
The best grocery store I have ever been in. It is huge and the prices are great. I cant ask for more from a grocery store. They have a large wine selection, a sushi station, and you can get super juicy rotisery chickens to go. Way better than any FoodLion or Giant I have been in!
Scan bag and go is a joke. Especially when I go to pay and ask the worker how to do it and can’t figure it out. I then have to re ring everything up.... with no help from any employees.
Very friendly staff and great prices
Not bad. Good beer and natural foods selection. Kind of busy sometimes, but not terrible.
Deli consistently closes early, staff is often unhelpful.Blacksburg needs more competition to force Kroger to be more receptive to customers.
Excellent selection and if you catch items on sale and use coupons the prices are competitive. If you cant find it here, which is unlikely, the next stop would be Oasis World Market right across the street.
Always crowded on Sunday after church services. Nice selections of groceries, but certain items sometimes run out.
Everytime me and my family shop here the employees are short, rude, and give an overall presence of acting bothered whenever you ask for help. Last time this store will see our business.
Great selection of groceries and household good. Often saves me a longer trip to Walmart if I dont need anything too unusual.
I hate it when they remodel but this time at least they are putting things a more logical location, in general. There are some who the Heck made that decision placements..........
Usually busy and often stock carts out, but I definitely like this grocery store.
Good quality food, low prices on lots of sale items, nice people work there
Clean and inviting...great store and good prices
