Super cute store and love the barrels full of many, many, many different candies. So easy to fill up a bag full. Also neat getting to look at all the apparel.

Literally at the door this afternoon at 5:58. Doors were locked. Asked the lady if I could run up and grab a Patagonia Shirt ($150) that we picked out earlier and she said no…. Really? And she had other customers still shopping. Won’t be shopping there again. Imagine they have to stay 1 minute after 6pm. SMH.

Bout average. If youre looking for some Old Time candy and trinkets then this is your place. Great deal on some winter dubs from different manufacturers. Throughout your entire visit you will hear creaking qnd popping wood floors. The Mast General Store, Boone, definitely has that old time feeling. Enjoy qnd tell them Leroy sent ya!

Staff member who sold me a knife was helpful and knowledgeable.Ive been to the Mast store here and Valle Crucis over fifty times but have noticed a recent trend toward trendy pretty boy/pretty girl clothes and high prices; really capitalizing on the gullible consumer who wants to look or pretend like theyre outdoorsmen.Would recommend a weekday visit and not a Saturday due to the crowds.

The Mast General Store Old Boone Mercantile on King Street in Boone is a great place to find gifts for yourself or just about anybody that is on your list. They have an awesome collection of unique items that range from the cute, to the tasty, to the funny, to the practical, and even to the odd that there will be at least one item that you will find that will be perfect for that one person. The store is very large and seems to go on for a long time and then keep going and then have a second level that keeps going even further and it is easy to spend a long time here which I find very cool and entertaining. The staff here is very helpful and plentiful as there always seems to be someone available to assist and the checkout line moves fast.

Nostalgic fun. Lots of neat, some hard to find items. We have been coming here for years and there are always new, unique items. I love the history behind the Mast General Store. We also love to stop by the Candy Barrel and other unique shops while we are there. Everyone should visit at least once. If you do, you will be sure to go back!

The Mast General Store is always a fun visit (that can turn out to be very expensive as they have really nice stuff). Wherever you go, you need to visit them.Among the favorites are always the candy barrels, where you can help yourself ruin your teeth and diabetes :). I just wished they had really good licorice.

I live locally and have had plenty of great experiences shopping for clothes, gifts and outdoor gear at the Mast General Store locations in Boone and Valle Crucis. Today, though, the customer service in Boone was exceptional. I went in with very specific needs for new hiking and running shoes, but Ive been having a hard time finding what I need. The salesperson, Elias, was by far the most knowledgeable person Ive met while shopping for shoes, and was friendly and patient enough to answer all my questions. He helped me understand the fit and technical aspects of the pairs I liked and made sure I was able to find the right pair for me. Expertise like his is a big part of the reason I like to shop locally and why I enjoy shopping at Mast.

Much better store layout than the Original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis. There was a very helpful employee that was helping when my sister was buying some Chacos. A lot more selection when it comes to clothing than the Original store as well.

Was under the impression that this would be an actual general store but instead sells INSANELY priced clothing and outdoor equipment. The only part I enjoyed was seeing all the classic/old/original candy that you can’t find anywhere else. Even that is expensive for $10/lb.

A nice walk back in time. The newer store has a ton of candy, sundries, some clothes and the original store is full of nostaligia like old time toys and gifts, clothing, kitchen items, etc. Seems like they have almost everything there. Staff is very very kind and courteous and...bonus...they have a genuine old style Coca-Cola soda cooler. Even better, the post office inside is real, as are the post office boxes in one of my attached photos. Just a fun experience in a delightful community!

This is one of my favorite stores in Boone! All of the employees were so friendly. I appreciate old stores like this one. You dont come across an old gem like this often. It had home decor, clothing, shoes, candy, homemade jelly, etc. All around a GREAT local business!!

Take time to visit, but not only visit, patronize this establishment. Step back into yesteryear. And grab a cup of coffee for 5 cents. Yes, 5 cents. Dont forgot to ask where they kept the bartered chickens years ago.Theres a huge selection of clothing, backpacking gear, shoes and boots, games and toys for the kids, food items, kitchen items and gadgets, gifts for Christmas and birthdays. My wife buys something every single visit. They also have items on sale quite often. Dont miss it. Id recommend.

Mast General Store is a must visit in historic Boone NC. They have a wide array of items for the tourist and locals alike. They carry Columbia for the outdoor adventures, as well as local made hiking sticks. They also sell bulk candy for the kid in all of us. I highly recommend a stop.

No trip to Boone is complete without visiting Mast General Store. I was skeptical about how Mast would handle the crowds during the pandemic, but they have excellent safety protocols in place. They limit the number of customers, hand out masks, provide multiple sanitizing stations, and require/provide gloves for the candy barrels.

I loved the selection of actual good clothes, as usually these sorts of places have cheap and tacky souvenirs. I loved that there was a great selection of candy and very nice shirts.

I ask them to sanitize the menus then overall service was just medium level.

Enjoyed shopping for all of the different types of candy for our granddaughter, they have an excellent selection. My wife even found a new shirt that she really likes. Prices are reasonable considering that you are in a college town and a tourist area.

They have a lot of different merchandise from clothing, to old school games & candy. Personally bought old fashioned soft cinnamon sticks & peppermint but I fast prefer the ones at Cracker Barrel. Most of the merchandise, especially the clothes seemed very overpriced.

They are very expensive. 9.99 a pound average on all candy, go to Walmart instead.. I know their candy cannot be fresh the barrels are too big they have the candy in they dont sell enough of it for them to replenish it with fresh candy I will not be returning and Im local..

The store has become so commercialized which i guess can be expected with all the tourist brining in the cash flow. But I sure liked it better when they sold beef jerky in the bins, boiled peanuts :) and Coke made in the USA. The palce seems better suited for picture oportunities rather than any real shopping. I mean If u just wanna buy stuff made in Mexico why not use amazon? its way leas exspensive.

Its a great place for long-time Boone residents or those just visiting for the day. Inventory is priced higher than what youd expect to pay elsewhere, but the money goes toward a local business and the selection — from clothing, outdoor gear, jewelry, tools, and cooking supplies — cant be beat if youre looking to shop in the high country.The only downside is the crowds, but thats just about applicable to anywhere in Boone these days. Id recommend visiting at open during weekdays, or be prepared for parking and crowds.Ive been coming here for years. Its a must visit for anyone nearby this location.
