Cute hometown style cafe in downtown that offered a good amount of seating for dining in if desired. That is a plus as they offer a larger menu for breakfast and lunch which includes soups and sandwiches.We specifically visited for a sweet treat and the bakery didn’t disappoint. Great donut and cookie selection!Just regular coffee though so don’t plan on any fancy lattes or cappuccinos here.

Blue Heron catered my wedding and I can not give this place enough stars! The food was amazing and my guests are still raving about it a week later! The brisket and apple cider pork were a huge hit. The service was top notch which was icing on the cake. I highly recommend them for your wedding needs!

My wife and stopped in on our way home from vacation. We were looking for breakfast or brunch, so I got on good old Google to see what I could find.What a great discovery!I had the farmers omelet and my wife had the breakfast breakfast. Both were excellent.They also have fresh baked goods, so we got some cookies, fritters and more to take home.Well definitely stop by the next time were in the area!Oh and Hi to Mary, our waitperson who turned out to be a Flint area native too! 🙂

Holy smokes! This place is AMAZING! I’ve visited roughly 10 times, and every single time it exceeds my expectations. The staff are friendly and wonderful, and the food is AWESOME! I recommend the lunch flight, because you get a salad, half a sandwich, a cup of soup, and a cookie for an extremely reasonable price. If you’re on the fence about going, don’t be. It’s delicious and wonderful.

The Blue Heron is a northern Michigan treasure! Outstanding food made in-house with fresh, local ingredients. They catered my wedding and did an excellent job. All the guests talked about how much they enjoyed the food.

Homemade soup and bread with a fresh salad and a cookie to top it of for a decent price makes this one of my favorite lunch flights anywhere, let alone the small town of Cadillac.

When a place does something right, they dont need a menu that is 4 pages. That is the quality of Blue Heron Cafe. First of all, they source much of their food from local farms. Win #1. I got the Dearborn ham sandwich. The homemade sourdough bread was grilled, the ham was cut from a ham ( not shavedvham) & it was grilled. Between the bread was herb flavored mayo and a cherry spread with spinach. Win #2. I ordered the lunch special which was a half sandwich, a salad that was lightly dressed in a deliciously sweet vinaigrette, and a cup of cheesy onion soup that was utter perfection for $11.95. Wins#3, 4 & 5. It was supposed to finish with a cookie, but they were out of cookies and allowed us to choose anything out of their bakery case. We had the choice of muffins, cinnamon rolls or donuts. I chose a cranberry almond muffin that had great presentation but fell flat on flavor. Wait staff was spot on and incredibly helpful. I will definitely go back there to try the chicken sandwich my brother in law got that had apple butter on it. I sampled my sisters chicken soup that was very flavorful and I would guess homemade.

FUTURE BRIDES BEWARE!I have been in conversation with their catering department for a few weeks in regards to catering cupcakes for my upcoming wedding. I had reached out and asked if it was possible to have the specific flavors along with the frosting design put into a sample box to try. I was told it was possible and I would be able to pick up my sample box on Friday August 9th. Since I live out of town (1 1/2 hours away) I called Thursday to confirm a sample box would indeed be there for me to pick up. As I made the 1 1/2 hour drive to pick up my sample box I was extremely disappointed. I went up to double check and make sure the box I did receive was indeed mine, the ladies working said it was.The sample box I received looked like a thrown together box of cupcakes poorly frosted. There were cupcakes on their sides when they handed me the box! Not a single flavor or frosting design I was told I would have was in the box. The ladies working that day were BEYOND kind towards me during this situation and got right on the phone to figure out what happened. The office was closed so there was nothing they could do for me. I made my 1 1/2 hour drive back home with a box of messy cupcakes which when I did sample tasted like cornbread muffins with the same frosting flavor on all of them.Its now August 15th and I still havent even received a call from the company about the incident or an explanation of what happened. Remember I drove a 3 hour round trip for this sample box!Due to this experience I would not recommend anyone use them for catering their wedding, its obvious they didnt care about my business to send me home with a box of cupcakes that look the way they did. A wedding is a very important day, you would think a business who is interested in catering for it would be putting out the best of the best for you to gain your trust and business. Very disappointing.

While traveling through Cadillac we decided to stop for breakfast, fortunately, we found The Blue Heron in downtown Cadillac. I ordered their special, steak and eggs with fried potatoes while my wife ordered french toast. One of the best breakfast we had, and Barb our waitress was so friendly, all in all, a great experience.

Enjoy the donuts and have had a good breakfast a couple times. A little pricey, but willing to pay a little extra to support a locally owned small business.

Whether youre going north or south this is the place to stop for lunch. Big city quality for local area prices, the lunch flight sandwich, salad, & soup meal hit the spot for the whole family.

Saturday We stopped at the Cafe for lunch. We had the light flight. Delicious food, squash soup was really good, coffee and cookie. Perfect start to our color tour around Cadillac. Highly recommend stopping in.

We stopped in for breakfast. The food was delicious and breakfast features a lot of Sweet potatoes in the food which was a nice addition to the layers of flavor.

Delicious food. I had the lunch combination which is soup, a small salad and half a sandwich. I had Thai peanut soup, a small very fresh salad and a grilled sourdough chicken pesto feta sandwich. My partner had a BLT on deliciously homemade grilled bread. I had a oatmeal raisin cookie. He had a grilled cinnamon roll with frosting and peanuts on it and a chocolate chip cookie. We obviously couldnt eat all of the baked goods but they were delicious. Everything is made there. What a find!

Went in for breakfast, it was amazing! And the lentil soup is even better. The workers were also so kind and helpful.

Small but varied menu makes any choice a good one. We each tried something different and NONE of us were disappointed. I love that their menu includes a section showing what local farmers, etc, that they get their food from. Id definitely go back, and recommend it to anyone visiting (...or local!) that like to try the local cuisine.

We go there all of the time. The food is phenomenal! If you are sick of generic food which I am completely, you can have a meal with home grown, seasonal ingredients, and their own homemade thick bread and soups the owner creates....all fresh picked ingredients. When you are done, take home homemade bread, donuts, sweet rolls, muffins or cookies. The owner is wonderful, sweet and creative!

Very impressed by this café! Stumbled upon it while on the way up north - its not far off 131. Had the farmers omelet ($11) and it was amazing. Easily the best breakfast Ive had for this price range. Attention to detail very evident. Service was excellent. Will definitely visit again!

Whether takeout or eat in, the food at this establishment is always mouthwatering. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is down home. They are a half block from our favourite hotel, and not far off the highway if just passing through.Makes a great pit stop if youre headed further north.

We went in not realizing they offer gluten free options - huge win as I am celiac. They had just sold their last loaf of gluten free bread so I was able to try it, but the peanut butter muffins were to SO good, they are light and fluffy and tasty. The waitress also gave me 2 for free since they could not able to fill my original French toast order. I ordered the vegetable bowl - the flavors were amazing. The goat cheese and butternut squash were such a nice flavor - esp considering I thought we were just going to a diner. Everyone at our table very much enjoyed their breakfast and the sandwich. The food at the tables near us looked amazing - the salads are beautiful and the soup smelled amazing. Waitstaff was very attentive, restaurant (inc. restrooms) is very clean. Highly recommend - surpasses most farm to table restaurants I have been to in more urban areas.

The food is usually really good but today the service was lacking. Placed my breakfast order over the phone and went to pick it up before work. When I got there the two waitresses just stood there arguing back and forth about who was responsible for not placing my order. No apologies, no offers to make it right.

Super-friendly people, amazingly creative and tasty food, reasonable prices, yummy baked goods, and free parking. They even had many gluten free options. This place really does have it all. I had a sampler plate that enabled me to try small portions of several lunch specials, and that was a great choice, because I wouldnt have wanted to miss any of those dishes. It even came with a cookie! We will definitely come again.

Had a great breakfast at The Blue Heron!! Had a BIG breakfast at The Blue Heron, as a matter of fact my husband and I split it!It was a good thing we got there when we did or we would have missed out on a donut, which we split too. A glazed cinnamon roll big enough to take some home. We enjoyed our meal. Next time well order extra grilled sourdough white toast...it was that good and get there early enough for a bigger donut choice. Thats my recommendation get there early, order extra grilled toast and enjoy one of Northern Michigans best breakfasts!!

This cafe absolutely blew my expectations for a small town breakfast place out of the water. The grilled sourdough bread they served instead of the standard toast was phenomenal. The bacon, strawberry French toast, and Dearborn ham were some of our favorites. I highly recommend this cafe for anyone in the area looking for a delicious and filling breakfast!

Blue Heron catered our wedding at Blue Bridge Events Center in May 2019 and we are SO happy we chose them to cater our big day. The food was incredible and we received so many compliments from guests about how great it was, even down to the salad and dressing! The service was also fabulous! They have an extensive menu from appetizers to desserts, with a wide range of price points and so many delicious options. We chose the smoked beef brisket and pecan-crusted honey dijon chicken with whipped garlic potatoes and caramelized brussel sprouts and it was amazing! Julie was wonderful to work with- Such a great family-owned business. Highly recommend!! Thank you Blue Heron!

Every time I go here, the food is spectacular and the staff is incredible.My only complaint would be that they immediately bring my daughter water in a styrofoam cup with a plastic straw. I love the sentiment, but we dont use plastic or styrofoam as a general rule because it is awful for the environment.

I have mixed reviews about my experience here. I hate to admit it, but my lunch was pretty good...not anything too impressive, but definitely not bad either. Service was lackluster. My waitress, Barb, was not the most friendly, but she didnt ignore me and everything came to my table in a timely order. My issue with my experience, hence reason for writing this, is that at the end of my lunch I witnessed about half of the restaurant clear out. (Mind you this was at 1:30pm, so past prime lunch time) I figured it wouldnt be a bother if I got a little work done on my laptop. When I requested the wifi password, my waitress told me that they arent allowed to give that out to customers. Mind you, Id just ordered a tea and had every plan to order dessert as well.I think it odd that A. a cafe wouldnt share their wifi....but when my waitress explained to me that they wouldnt be able rotate tables it made more sense...No, not really.Anyway, it is what it is....but if any of you are wanting to sit, relax, have a coffee or dessert and use wifi you should check out Kahvi down the road. The lattes are amazing.
