Bought a bike for $60 here The guy was really nice and friendly. He replaced the tires with used tires and even gave me a free 30 day warranty all for free. Overall this is a pretty honest local business and a solid choice if youre in the market for a bike.

My husband and I went into Mike’s Bike Shop towards the beginning of June in search of a couple of used bikes at a reasonable price to ride this summer. We found Mike’s shop to be a reasonable fit as it was both local and near where we lived. Upon entering this “Bike Shop” we quickly observed the copious amounts of random tires, frames and several other bicycle parts and pieces scattered, stacked, piled and strewn across the floor, ceiling and walls. Being my first time in such a place, I didn’t think much of it (“it’s a bike workshop”) –we decided to give it a chance.Mike, the (initially) overly friendly owner of the shop approached us asking a few of the typical questions as far as, “what are you looking for, etc.” We wanted a couple of hybrid bikes that were within the $200-$300 range. I’d motioned to a light green Trek bike that was put together and available for sale. To further explain: He has 12-18 bikes parked in bike racks at the front of the store, some of which are for sale, some of which are already sold. Question: why not move the bikes that are already sold (and have yet to be picked up) to the side of the store or to the back where buyers can more easily see which are still available for sale vs. having every customer ask the same question over and over regarding bike availability among a clump of unsorted bikes? All in all, the place is equivalent to something you’d see on an episode of “Hoarders”.Anyways, it escalates from here…We went with the green hybrid Trek bike for me and searched for a second option for my husband. Mike took us around his shop skittishly calling out 4-19 different options of frames and pointing at half-built bikes giving me no real indication that he really knew anything about bicycles other than over-excitedly making me dizzy with each direction he took us in and topic he flipped to next. I am very happy with my experience. It was smooth, the owner is so friendly. I wanted a big girl bike for my 3 1/2 year old (almost 4) and I wanted something girly and cute. I called and he found the perfect bicycle with training wheels. The price was really good for the bike I got! I went in to pick it up, he adjusted it for my daughter, and she is still really excited about it. Im thankful because they saved me a lot of time and money! The owner even helped my daughter ride it around for a few minutes. Most businesses see you as a wallet, he wasnt like that. I definitely recommend!

Very nice Father / Son team that run this place... They definitely know about bikes and are always willing to strike a deal.. 👍👍👏🙌(They will trade-in items or buy them outright, i.e. I had a very nice time and tire off an old trek that I sold for $35 - totally helped pay for new rim and tire that I was currently getting fixed there.. This place is FANTASTIC! Needed a bike for my daughter to learn on. The one we had at home was too tall. They showed her a few that fit. She found a purple BMX style bike she liked. 50 bucks with warranty!!!! Paid, went to lunch while they cleaned it up and double checked that everything was good to go. It was ready and shiny like new after lunch. When the time comes to upgrade we will definitely be getting her next bike here. Thanks!

This is my 3rd stop at this place in 3 years looking for used bikes to maybe work on or refurbish and wow this store is very unorganized and bikes are beat up plus dirty and flat tires on them everywhere? I would have to buy all new parts to fix up any of these! And prices are not reasonable! If I was the owner of this store I would be embarrassed trying to sell junk to people. That’s just me. A suggestion would be clean up the place and bikes get bikes people actually want for the bike trails or for their kids and sell them as used not almost new when they are far from it.

He continued on.. promising how each bike would be lovingly built and not just like new but that they’d be “BETTER THAN NEW”. Shifting gears and trying to get him back on topic, we spotted another similar looking hybrid Trek bike that was blue on a pile of other frames. He quickly jumped at this opportunity to speak again saying how perfect this bike would be for me.At this point, after the time we’d spent walking around his mess of a shop, we’d agreed to buy both bikes for around $250 each. I was content with this offer and appreciated his token of promise to give us exactly the bikes we’d want and at a price that was fit. When we went to pick up the bikes. (Which is maybe a completely different story—as he promised us the 1st green Trek would/could be completed in just a mere 2 hours that same day). Which we explained that we didn’t need nor want it that same day because we did not have the means to transport it home.…Ultimately, my husband got a phone call with the go ahead to come pick up the bikes about 14 days later, after each time he instructed us to “CALL BEFORE WE ARRIVE, YET THE BIKES WERE ALREADY COMPLETED!” (Again, why do we need to call if you’ve reassured us they are ready for pick up and already paid for??). This then turned into him multiple phone calls and 2 trips to the shop before actually bringing the bikes home. Not to mention having to wait 3.5 hours on the 2nd trip because there was still “just a few” adjustments that needed to be made to one of the bikes.Okay, here’s where the crazy part begins. We didn’t ride the bikes until the 3rd of July due to our work schedules being different and inclement weather on nights we wanted to ride. At that time, we both hopped on our bikes and rode about a half mile to watch fireworks down by Ellis. I noticed immediately that the shiftingwas off and it wouldn’t shift into first gear. I also noticed the bike seemed rather small. We rode for a mere 15-20 minutes and then decided to head back towards home. Upon measuring the bike when we got home, we found that mine had a 15” frame. I’m a 29-year-old female who is 5’9”. (15” frames are generally built for riders around 5’2”.) Had I been 20 years younger, this would have been a perfect fit for an 8-year-old.My question here—why would the owner of the bike shop who sells and refurbishes and ‘so lovingly builds’ used bikes for a living recommend a frame that size for someone my height? Guy does not have accurate or adequate bike knowledge. Bottomline. This guy wouldn’t take my “ridden once bike” back or exchange for anything similar. Instead, he threw a fit (yes, threw a fit like a toddler) and scurried again around his mess of a shop talking about how rude and ungrateful we were with the PERFECT bike he’d already built and lost money on). At that point I thought we were better off trying to resell the bike he did give me (a GIANT Sedona bike – which is a bike built for trails and has thicker tires, nothing like what we wanted or paid for) and cut our losses. My recommendation: tread carefully. This guy clearly makes all of his income off swindling people and temper tantrums.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Upon first getting to the Bike Shop I could tell that it wouldnt be the classiest place, however given that it was my first time in such a place I decided to give it a chance. My husband and I spent about 30 minutes to an hour here talking with the employees about various options they had for us and our 2 year old. After some hesitancy we had settled on two bikes we were interested in; which were by no means new. What was offered for our child was far from safe, i wouldnt have carried a plastic bag in the contraption they wanted me to place him in. When price came up we determined that they were asking more than new prices for these two bikes. We opted to go ahead and stick with these bikes regardless of this, only to find out that the bikes were not even in good enough shape to take home that day. Instead we were asked to place a deposit on the bikes and pick them up once repairs had been made. Once again, reluctantly we did so. It has since been nearly 2 weeks with no word or indication that we will be able to pick up our bikes nor the deposit. Needless to say we will not be going back to this facility, nor would I recommend anyone else.

I went in about six months ago when I broke a free hub on my bike and went in to find an inexpensive used mountain bike I could ride while I waited for replacement parts. They showed me a bike that was just about what I was looking for. When I was done test riding it, he had to call his dad to see if it was for sale. It wasnt. He put me on another bike that was far too small for me, and I told him that. He wanted me to ride it anyway, so I did and told him what I already had - it was too small for me. With the seat post a bit higher than the minimum insertion mark, my knees were bent at about 20º fully extended. He told me that was how it should be. I told him no and he put me on yet another bike. It was Mongoose brand, I dont remember the model. I rode it and it seemed alright, then I started checking it out. The chain was worn enough that I could feel play between the links pulling on it by hand (Id guess 125%+ on a wear gauge, where the chain should be replaced at 75% to avoid damaging the cassette or chain rings) and the cassette was noticeably worn. I pulled on the wheels and one of them had VERY loose bearings. He had his mechanic pull the wheel and tighten the cones. They spent 5-10 minutes looking for a wrench, then the mechanic tightened the cones. I could tell he was pulling the wrenches as hard as he could, which is never the right way to adjust a bearing. Im a former automotive technician and have done all my own bike work... I literally cringed when I saw him yanking on the wrench. He got the wheel put back on and I pulled on the wheel again. It was a bit tighter, but still very loose. I told him if they replaced the bearings and found a longer seat post (this bike was on the small side for me, but thats my preference on a mountain bike) I would buy the bike. He told me the extremely excessive play in the hub was normal on these bikes and their one year warranty [EDIT: maybe it was lifetime, see their response, I dont remember for sure] covered more adjustments if it needed them. Some months later, I looked up the cost of a new Mongoose bike while telling this story to a friend. They were asking something like 90% of the cost of a similar NEW mongoose bike (I think it was $300, but its been long enough that I dont remember) If you go in here, make sure you know how to check the bike.EDIT: It doesnt seem to be possible to reply to a reply, so to clear up any possible miscommunication on my part: I would have been happy with a Huffy or Murray bike. I would have been perfectly happy with a Mongoose in decent condition at a fair price. Im 63 and ride Large or Extra Large/ 59 to 63 cm/19 or 21 inch frames, depending on the style of bike. I didnt go in with high hopes of finding a bike that would work for me. I was just looking for something to ride on some singletracks for a week or less, and then have to let bike-less or road biking friends ride on singletracks occasionally. I would never hold a lack of inventory against someone. What I was upset about, and the reason for my one-star review (among other less significant issues which made my post exceed the character limit), was the claim that any play at all in any bikes hub is acceptable - let alone normal. Its not, its dangerous and could cause a serious injury. Its not that a Gary Fisher or Trek should have no play and the cheaper ones are speced to have a quarter inch of wobble at the tire. Anyone working on or selling bikes should know this. Both the salesman and the person who turned wrenches for them said it was fine - to be expected on less expensive brands.
