Wonderful, honest and knowledgeable people who arent trying to sell you anything except what will keep your car safely on the road. This is the only place my husband and I take our cars, which have all been older imports. I trust what they tell me - theyll keep an older car going forever, but also tell you when its time to move on. Their prices are fair and up front - the work is quality and done right the first time. We love this place.
I am surprised to read negative reviews of Passport Motors. My first experience with them resulted in a positive fix and a financial charge way below what I expected. After ten years of working with them, I have always found them to be honest, fair, and just great people to solicit advice from and visit with. I think the world of all the employees and of their work.
Jimmy, John, and Trish have taken care of me and my cars since the late 1990s. I have always had complete faith in their honesty and skill. I will follow them wherever they go! They kept my Honda Accord running smoothly for 16 years and my 13-year-old Volvo is ready to go another 100,000 miles thanks to these folks!
Weve been using passport for over 10 years now. The entire team is easy to deal with and go out of there way to help you make the right decision. We wouldnt take our cars anywhere else. Updating after a couple of years and I still only have great things to say. Thanks Jim, Trish, and the rest of the team!Brian
Ive been going to Passport Motors for over 13 years. They are consistently highly competent, honest, nice, and affordable. Unlike the over-priced phony dealers one often has to contend with. Passport folks do it right the first time and always tell you the truth upfront. They kept a 16-year-old Honda Accord running like a dream and even helped me find a buyer. Now they are keeping a 10-year-old Volvo ready for another 10 years. Cant ask for more than that. I love these folks!
I am a little surprised to see some less than excellent reviews of this business. I have taken my cars here off and on for several years, usually for difficult problems that others had problems dealing. I have always received great service, that included accurate trouble shooting and repair on the first effort at very competitive prices. They have also talked me out of doing repairs I was considering, an honest approach that I appreciate. So based on my experiences (and those of friends who use them), I would recommend Passport to others.
I took my car to Passport Motors after having my brakes go out while in town for work. I couldnt be happier with the service they gave me, my car was very well cared for and at a very reasonable price. These guys know what they are doing and insist on doing it right. Friendly and conscientious, dont hesitate for a second to take your car here, they will treat you right and get you back on the road safely!
Maybe a bit more expensive than some other shops, worth every penny imo. Been my trusted mechanic for over 20 years. You should be so lucky.
In my experience, the best auto repair shop in Chapel Hill. Recommended to me by a local after I had bad experiences at several other auto repair shops in the area. These guys figured out a problem I was having with my truck that the Toyota Dealership couldnt even figure out. They routinely charge significantly less than their quoting price. The mechanics explain everything in detail, dont upsell, and I have found they are willing to negotiate price. The lady up front doesnt sugarcoat, but I appreciate her straightforward way of doing business.
Just had another classic experience with Passport. Dealer had quoted me $500 to flush the radiator. Passport quoted me $130. They are so pleasant to deal with. Ive seen a couple of negative reviews here and I am not sure who those people talked to, but it surely wasnt Trish.
Passport seemed trustworthy until today when I had to have my car towed to them and they tried to take advantage of the situation. Quoting $300 OVER fair market value on a fuel pump repair. I have my car towed again one block down to Chapel Hill Tire and still saved money. I informed them of what I had learned - they didnt care.
Passport pads the bill like most everyone else - maybe not as badly as some. $450 parts and labor for a part I couldve bought online for $90 and installed myself in half an hour. I would have also had to buy or borrow a code reader to know what to replace I suppose. But I wanted convenience, and you pay for that. The best local shop Ive found is Horne Auto on Poythress just inside Chatham county. Less expensive for sure.
They are knowledgeable, friendly, and completely honest. I have been dealing with them for 20+ years, and have never, never, been disappointed. Nor has anyone Ive ever referred to them. They go the extra mile.
They are absolutely fantastic--even more knowledgeable than the dealership, honest and fair as well.
This is our go to place. Trustworthy people who care about their customers and dont over charge. We have both a Honda Element and a VW and their competency has been high with both, FWIW.Also, Trish at the front desk is awesome.
I have been taking our two cars here for years. They were the only place that would fix problems with my wifes old Jetta without always wanting to replace lots of expensive parts. This is not one of those places where you take your car in for an oil change, and all of a sudden they find 3 issues you need to address right away. They follow the manufacturers suggested maintenance schedules for your car, so taking your brand new car here, instead of the dealer, will still get by the book maintenance, and it will not cost an arm and a leg.
A passport is exactly what you are going to need for the trip to an impoverished region of Eastern Europe that you will take upon entering this establishment. The receptionist is hardly receptive, combatively ignorant, and has the pleasant disposition of a rabid dog. It merely takes a passing glance at the “mechanic’s” tool-set to suspect this individual is cheap, messy, incompetent, and under-equipped to perform the most basic of auto repairs, a second glance at the cars parked around the shop will remove any reasonable doubt. This place is terrible, yet somehow their rates are equivalent to dealerships. This business survives by preying upon ignorant students and faculty of UNC, don’t fall victim. I wouldn’t recommend even having your lawn mower serviced here. Google please investigate the fraudulent positive reviews of this establishment.
VERY UN-HAPPY!!! SPOKE WITH AN LADY BEHIND THE COUNTER WHO WAS VERY RUDE!!! NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I MET SOMEONE WHO WORKS WITH THE PUBLIC ON A DAILY BASIS AND IS SO DISRESPECTFUL AND PLAIN OUT ARROGANT.ALSO TRIED TO TELL ME TO FIX SOMETHING ON THE CAR THAT HAD NOTHING WHAT SO EVER TO DO WITH THE ISSUE IT WAS BROUGHT IN FOR. VERY RUDE AND DISHONEST.
I have total confidence in their integrity and ability.
Asked them to fix an oil leak that is dripping onto onto one of my exhaust manifolds and causing my heater to stink like burning oil. After replacing my front cam seal and both valve cover gaskets, the leak is still there, and mt v6 mazda still stinks like oil when the heat is on. I used to work on my cars when I was young and broke. Pulled my plugs the other day, and the Passport mechanic did not replace my valve seals, what a ripoff! The front desk receptionist is rude and only wants to quick business from local students with no questions asked.
Wouldnt go any where else for import work!
