Didn’t answer the phone after trying to call them 10 times. Decided to drive over there to get food. They were out of everything on the menu besides cream cheese bagels.
I have tried to like this shop and support small business, but the quality is very up and down. The service is glacially slow (again, small business, I can accept that), but it is slow even when you are the only one in there. The food was always limited but what little they do offer has gotten even slimmer. I understand that times are hard but I got a bagel with cream cheese the other day and by the time I got back across the street to my office, the thinnest schmear of cream cheese I have ever been served had absorbed into one side of my bagel. I get that you cant be wasteful as a small business, but I guarantee that my $3 bagel had about 2 cents worth of cream cheese on it. Just overall very disappointing and definitely wont be back.
I walked in with my wife and it seemed cozy. The shop was out of the drink I wanted. No problem, it happens. Girl behind the counter suggested another drink (London Fog tea). So far, okay... Got the drinks and walked out. First sip and it is not a London Fog. There has to be coffee in it as we watched her use the espresso machine. Thought it was weird, but hey maybe they know something that I dont. As I was a block away, my wife called and got no answer so we circled back to the shop. Apparently, the shop had just closed, but the employees were still inside. As my wife stood out there making eye contact, she called. They continued to stare and not pick up the phone so we could ask a simple question. The lack of effort put in by the employees to help a customer despite JUST closing their doors and us having been there literally five minutes prior at most is disgraceful. I do not recommend and will not be returning.UPDATE: The owner responded (see below) and the following are my thoughts:1. I am not dumping on this small business as they claim. We came to Tricera to support local businesses instead of big chains. We could have easily gone to Starbucks if we wanted to, but we know how badly this pandemic has hit small businesses and their struggle to stay open.2. As stated in the review, we did try to go to the business directly. My wife stood outside the door making eye contact with the two employees inside and knocked on the door as well as called the phone number WHILE MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH SAID EMPLOYEES. Therefore, this review was not a knee jerk reaction.3. As a tourist from another state, Id be hard pressed to go home and make it the way I want it. Even if I wasnt a tourist, it is my prerogative to go into a business and if the service or product is not up to my standards, to seek a resolution with the staff. That did not occur through no inaction on my part.4. The tea didnt ruin my day as the owner suggests. It was the attitude of the employees that rankled me. If the response from the owner is any indication of the attitude of the business, then it doesnt surprise me that the employees acted the way they did.5. Good to know you dont put coffee in your tea...
Good location and menu. The dinos are cute.
Coffee is the perfect temperature.
Its a good coffee shop, even with a limited food menu theyre providing solid coffee and food.
Both the signs indicate they should be open right now, Monday at 10:30, and the shop is closed. Looks like staffing shortage
This is a nice little coffee shop. I always grab a hot latte and it’s consistently good. The service is good and friendly. It’s comparable priced to any other coffee shop so there’s no real surprises. Just a nice little place to grab a cup of coffee to go when you’re downtown.
One of the best, and easiest places to eat in Lawrence. Directly between downtown and west Lawrence, based right off of campus, this place serves all you need. From coffee and mimosas with a danish in the morning to a Boulevard tank 7 and a chicken sandwich after work, theyve got you covered. Happy hour from 3-6 on weekdays as well.
-5 stars if I could give it. One of the worst possible experiences at a coffee shop I’ve ever had. The cashier took 10 orders before one of the customers ahead of me queried the cashier about his coffee that he has been waiting on for approximately 10 minutes. I ordered a coffee latte for here. 15 minutes later still no coffee and I reminded her that I was still awaiting my order. She asked what I ordered and so I told her. 10 minutes later, still no coffee and I reminded her again. She again asked what I ordered and I was so flabbergasted that I just said forget it, and left. I immediately went to the coffee shop next door and received my coffee in less than 2 minutes after ordering. I won’t make this mistake again and you shouldn’t either, make it the first time.
Tricera was so fun! Ive been to more than my fair share of coffee shops, and have never seen a dinosaur themed one! My mocha was great, but my husband couldnt finish his chai frappe because the flavor was way too powerful for either of us. Seating is limited, and because they have a bigger food and drink menu, it is a longer wait, but nothing too too crazy. They also had a help wanted sign in the window, so it probably wasnt by choice that there was only one woman working on a Saturday. Overall, Id recommend it for a quick breakfast on the go!
Warning the hours that they list on their website are not the hours that they keep.
Mediocre, but dug that they played Taylor swift
Food was really good. Had an everything bagel sandwich and several cups of coffee. Service was quick and friendly. Definitely recommend getting here early for a seat and great food.
So when you go to a place that offers your favorite bagel and cream cheese spread you get it to see if the place is a keeper right! Right!Well I very much enjoyed this little local coffee bagel joint,If your in the area go there you won’t be sad
Great Coffee! The girl working there was rlly nice and helpful, kind of a long wait since only one person is working usually :/
If you love dinosaurs specifically triceratops this is the coolest place to go. A must see for any dinosaur enthusiast. I absolutely loved it.
We got two of the basic - an egg sandwich on an everything bagel. Added bacon on one and sausage on the other. Delicious! I also got a regular cup of coffee. Very good. Slightly floral but not overwhelming. Good solid flavor.
I could get over slow service once, maybe twice, but not every time I go. It doesnt take 30 minutes to make one bacon egg and cheese when Im the only person in the store. Not to mention Ive been refused service there because it was thirty minutes before they closed. Theres better and faster food nearby.
1st time in Charleston and coffee is a must. Friendly staff. Great music. Neat decor. Comfy seating. Clean restroom. Saffron Latte: best beverage Ive ever had. Quality, quality, quality!
I used to work here, so take it from me when I tell you to stay away from this place. The entire back of house is filthy--floors were never swept or mopped, surfaces were cleaned with Windex if cleaned at all, there were roaches in the corners. Nothing was ever properly washed, as the triple basin sink was not fully functional, and the sanitizing tablets that we used had been expired for nine months. Everything was filth. I still have nightmares of the crusty cream cheese stuck in the sink and on the clean dishes. We often ran out of gloves and prepped food with our bare hands. We used the same nasty rags to wipe things down, and the owner would just wash them at her house. We had no system for keeping track of when food went out of date, we would just put a sticker on it for the day we made it and guessed when it was too nasty to serve. No standards to how drinks or food should be made. There was no professionalism in sight. I accepted the job under the assumption that I would be making $11-13 an hour, only to make $7.25, and the owner said that tips would make up for the rest of it (it did not). There were not any managers, just the owner shouting at us from afar. Most days I did not work with anyone else, Id be running the shop by myself. I dont blame the kids that work there, they dont know better. But do yourself a favor and skip Tricera, get some espresso from the crêpe place next door.
Have been there 4 times and incredibly slow every time we come. I also saw them grab bagels with unwashed hands (after they picked something up off of the floor). I get it that it’s a casual vibe but no place should be that lax... I’d go to the crepe place next door.I also just read the responses from the owner on other low star ratings and those alone are a reason to never go back... wow, quit making excuses for bad service and at least attempt to make it right for those of us that support local businesses.
Pretty good coffee. I enjoy their vanilla late and cinnamon sugar late. Unfortunately I’ve had their bagels a few times and they are never toasted enough hence the 4 stars.
Great coffee and great service every time. The real surprise is the food though. Way better than youd expect from a coffee shop. I dont really get the theme but who cares really. I love this place.
Cool vibe. Good coffee. Mediocre service - long wait and got charged extra for stuff we didnt order.
Get the saffron latte. Mine was iced and it was exquisite. Ive been a lot of places and tried a lot of things, in fact Im always on the lookout for them. The saffron latte was like nothing Ive ever tried before. It is so unique that its difficult to describe, but its worth a shot knowing its a truly singular thing. They have a great late night menu, and the staff were pleasant and fast.
Some of the best coffee Ive ever had. If youre visiting Charleston, stop by for a refreshment in the midst of your day. If youre a local, why havent you been here yet
If you can tolerate mediocre quality, unfriendly staff, and lackluster atmosphere, Tricera Coffee might be your coffee shop of choice. My wife and I stopped by for a morning latte and soon wished we had walked a little further to a different shop. My wife’s family has been in the coffee service and coffee shop business for more than 30 years, so we are, admittedly, coffee snobs. The place is very messy/chaotic, and the barista had her hair down and in her face, and she was wearing a spaghetti strap top that exposed her midriff. She never once smiled and seemed bothered by everyone who asked her a question. Our lattes were 50% foam, more akin to a cappuccino, and their half-gallon of Borden brand half-n-half was just sitting out on the counter without ice or a container to keep it cool (health code violation). My advice for this place, if they want my return business: Rearrange your layout to appear less chaotic, get some more tables and seating, establish a dress code for employees, train them how to make the drinks, and minimize the amount of hand-written signs strewn about the counters and walls.
This is one of the worst coffee shops in Charleston. Save your self the disappointment from this horribly run establishment and find a better coffee shop.
Really enjoy supporting local businesses but the past 5-7 times I’ve been to Tricera, the wait has been incredibly long with only a few people in the store. Today I ordered a bagel and I came in early to allow for extra time and ended up being late. That is because the barista made all of the drinks, including the drinks of al the customers that ordered after me and then decided to make my good. Really disappointed this time, especially because I order at 8:20 and didn’t receive my food until 8:50.
First time coming in and I love supporting our local shops, always. Service was lightning fast for me and the Ethiopian blend (what they had on drip) was quite good. I will be back for some cappuccino and an update for this review! Thanks, Tricera Coffee!
Nice place to pop in for a quick and quality cup. Their saffron latte as well as the dirty chai creations are delicious, although VERY sweet. If you are a visitor in town, skip the chains and go here!
Th coffee is really good. Since theres only ever one person working no matter how busy it is you should expect a wait.
Great coffee and fun vibes! Super neat Charleston find.
Carefree environment that spills into the coffee production. Maybe it was due to the busy time of the day, but the drip coffee was bitter and the cappuccino wasnt drinkable. To top it off: No, were outta lids, sorry.
We are visiting Charleston and wanted to try a local coffee shop over a chain; however, after waiting for over 15 minutes to even give our order, we were never helped and decided to walk to Starbucks instead. To make matters worse, an employee came out of the kitchen and obviously knew the family behind us in line because she took their order and began preparing it all while we waited still. I would give zero stars if I could.Edit: after the response from the owner on this review, its no surprise that the staff is rude and unhelpful. To the owner: I suggest you check your security cams if you dont think the order of the family behind us in line was taken before ours was. Have some class, dude.
The coffee itself was excellent, and the gentlemen making the coffee were very nice.
Quaint little coffee shop with some food items. I was here with my wife. I dont drink coffee but she does and she liked theirs.
Great place to get coffee while strolling downtown. Dirty chai and lattes were delicious.
Ive visited Tricera coffee several times over the past few months and frankly there are better coffee shops here in Charleston. Nearly every time I go on there the establishment is dirty which I understand it they are trying to cater to college students but it almost makes you not want to order anything from them. Their coffee is OK, but dont order food from them. The food is good but youll be standing there waiting for it for about 20 to 25 minutes when theres no one else in the store. As far as customer service goes this place has been a hit-or-miss Ive had some amazing customer service from a couple of individuals however on the other hand Ive had some pretty poor customer service. It does have a interesting atmosphere I think to Tryceratops theme is pretty cool and unique.Coffee: 5.3Food: 7.1Customer service: 6.8Wait time: 3.4Atmosphere: 6.5Cleanliness: 4.2This is a college student level establishment.
Good coffee. Reasonable prices. Laid back. The only things that matter.
The nicest place for lunch.
Absolutely the best coffee I have ever had!
Cute little place to grab a coffee and a bagel.
Really good iced coffee. Service can be a little slow.
This coffee shop took the dinosaur theme and ran with it! When I saw there was a dino coffee shop, I was excited to try it. The quirky theme is the best thing it has going for it though.Service was slow and quite lackluster. I was lucky to get in when I did because a line quickly grew behind me. A couple people (based on the proximity to campus, Im guessing students who were on a time crunch) ended up leaving before they got to order. Its a small space and was a little muggy inside on a warm February morning. I wouldnt recommend trying to come here and hang out while you enjoy your coffee. But still a good spot to take in all of the dinosaur motif.
A great place for coffee and bagels and customer service - as well as dinosaurs! College students needing a coffee break and dino diggers alike will enjoy this little shop and its fun atmosphere!
Awesome coffee. Triceratastic!
Had an Americano that was served in a huge vessel of triceratops proportions! The vibe is really fun and you wont find another cafe quite like this elsewhere.
It always smells like someones farted in there, but damn if the coffee isnt quality! My only complaint about the staff is that the girls always seem confused about what Im ordering. Get some competent workers!
Great frappes, best espresso since Rome italy and the bagels are unreal!!! Prices are super cheap for what your getting so don’t be scared by the expensive neighborhood! This place has it all! Except seating lol. Very little places to sit.
Okay coffee. Decent cafe to work in. Would recommend
Sweet litle place, filled with triceraptors. The name is well choosen :)Good tea.
This is a cute little coffee shop. The iced lattes are amazing.
Decent place with bland breakfast burritos. The salmon bagel was pricey but better than the one at caviar & bananas. But its terrible to sit down to eat because the music is waaaaay too loud for coffee shop which means its patrons shout even louder to be heard. Its defeaning. Coffee shop music is supposed to be gentle background music so you can feel peacefully content while drinking your coffee. Even when they played a few lofi songs, the music was extremely loud. It completely defeats the purpose of playing peaceful music if youre playing it so loud I can barely hear myself. The coffee isnt bad but the staff always spills it so I end up having a sticky cup. The service is also extremely slow. I cant imagine tricera would have much business if it wasnt right next to liberty.
Cute little shop and not a bad cup of coffee!
Amazing vegetable cream cheese! The sesame seed bagel was perfect!
Omg. Fantastic latte and a breakfast sandwich that is out of this world! I love bagel sandwiches and theirs is one of the best!
Amazing chai. Cool atmosphere
Wow. Honestly sad that I feel so strongly about writing a nasty review.I come to Tricera at least once a week for bagels and coffee in between classes. They are always busy at the times I go In so waiting 10 min or so for food is not a big deal. However, today is the SECOND time they’ve forgotten my order. Second In the last two months.I stopped by this morning around 8:55 with two friends. I ordered before them and they received their orders around 9:15. At 9:20 I patiently approached the counter to have employees stare at me for 2 minutes. When i finally got someone’s attention, i told them the issue and i still remained patient. At 9:25 I had my one bagel with cream cheese in hand. By this point, I was late to class so I had missed my opportunity to sit down with friends and eat. During class I bit into the bagel and found that it had not been toasted and there was maybe a table spoon of cream cheese on there at most. I have never written a review before so I really didn’t want this to be the place I ranted about. I kept calm and returned to Tricera after class and told them about my experience and showed them what they had served a customer. The cashier told me that the lady who had prepared it was new. Let me say this, I work in food and bev so I 100% understand that this happens. However, it is not acceptable to serve a customer what I was given, even if it was the lady’s first day. I told the girls that I would not write a review as long as they gave me another bagel. Well... they had an attitude about it and handed me another crappy food item. They did not once offer me a refund, a voucher, or a complementary beverage. I will never spend another dollar at this location and if I could give this place negative stars I would.
Kind of a strange layout and its a little slow. The staff are very friendly though and the coffee is tasty
Nice grilled cheese. Not much effort put into the quesedilla however...perhaps just my experience.
I come here often whenever my gf works on the weekends its a cozy quite coffee shop and the coffee is of good quality I recommend it!
Cute place to get good coffee and delicious bagels
The iced coffee was *great* and the barista was very personable. I appreciated the quaintness and location of the shop, and the ceratopsian theme. I got the No Juay Quesadilla, which was pretty good. However, the bathroom could have been cleaner.
Anyone that writes a bad review about this place, is, just, wrong. Cold brew, on point. Cappuccino, perfect. Staff, friendly as f... And who doesnt like dinosaurs?!
Very rude staff. Disappointed.
The name of this place is neat, so I figured it was worth a shot. Turns out that the name and some dino toys are the only thing going for it. The barista was not particularly friendly and seemed like they thought that they were too cool to work in a dinosaur-themed coffee shop. The latte that I ordered was a bit on the pricey side as well, especially when the lack of good espresso flavor was taken into account. Id go somewhere else next time. Also, this is one of those places that asks for a tip at the point of sale... how am I supposed to know if the service is worth a tip before Ive been served? Needless to say, it wasnt.
My second trip to Tricera had to be the worst cup of coffee I or my husband has ever had. I ordered a macchiato and my husband had a cappuccino and there was zero distinction between the two. They were both something that I am guessing was supposed to be an espresso shot, but she mustve used whatever was in the nearest ashtray because the result in either cup was completely undrinkable. If I could give this review no stars, I would. This is a sad downfall because I visited literally a year ago, and had the best cup of coffee (another macchiato, if I am not mistaken); and spent the next year in anxious anticipation of having another wonderful cup of coffee, only to receive the watered down remains of what should have been a baristas possible used ashtray. Just sad.
Good coffee, not much space when its busy.
Great local coffee shop tucked away on George St!!
Really cool spot, yummy coffee! Quick and clean
A much more accurate portral of the times.
Good coffee if a bit slow.
Got breakfast here and it was pretty good, along with the coffee too.
We had breakfast here twice on our trip to Charleston. Excellent coffee and food, and friendly service.
Really good coffee and tea
I used their bathroom without ordering anything. Please dont come after me tricera police.
Management are racist and don’t run their business well. Would not recommend.
Good coffee in a little hole in the wall place in Charleston
College coffee
Food was good. Coffee was very good. Will be back.
Best bagel sandwiches in Charleston and the coffee is great too!
The coffee here is really good.
Nice customer service and delicious coffee!
Ick.My cup wasn’t even filled all the way either but I didn’t complain because it isn’t that tasty anyway. Sorry.
Best coffee ever !! i cant have starbucks anymore
Great service and basic cafe fair.
The coffee here is really good!
The coffee here is so delicious!
Enjoy getting my coffee here!
The coffee here is so refreshing!
