Awesome selection of records both new and used. The dude that owns this place is a character! Great guy and very knowledgeable about music. There is a pay parking lot next door to this place. I spent about 90 minutes searching through the racks.

I enjoy this record store but I must say I dislike how bootleg copies are unmarked as if they are official releases if they were marked as bootlegs like other stores do I would give more stars. To anyone who does visit this store please use discogs and use that as a way to see if something is a bootleg or not because while bootlegs arent always bad a lot are. Also can use that as a chance to check pricesAll I can say is while this store does have good records and the staff and owner are friendly somethings need changing

Had the chance to stop by and check out Charleston’s new record store. Had a great talk with one of the owners Bruce Berg, he is a musical treasure. He has so many fun stories. Make sure when you go, you visit with him. He has some great Woodstock stories. Peace y’all!

Great store and loved it. They had a lot of vintage and import albums I wanted to get but I was on a time limit and promised the wife I wouldnt buy anything else until I pared down my current collection. The shop was clean and everything was organized and easy to find. I cant wait to go back.

Cool little spot right in the middle of downtown. Id say the major downside was that they have half their records on the bottom of the shelves and I dont like browsing that way. Lots of new and used vinyl. Seemed like just a smattering of CDs . . . I wasnt really paying attention.I found some cool stuff: used All Things Must Pass (no poster), Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse (unofficial but sounds great), Pretenders for $10, etc. I found the prices to be a little on the high side but I still spent like $100 so . . .

Buyer beware. So many fake records in this store. And the pricing on the vintage stuff was insane. The 7 variants of Deja Vu all marked as original pressing (and priced identically at $29.99) told me plenty. Skip this store.

Wow! What a great selection! The prices on some items are a little up there on some items, but it is a very nicely curated collection and vinyl enthusiast would love. I found 7 records i wanted in ten minutes, and could have bought so much more. Check it out!

Record Stop on John Street in Charleston is a great source for all things records and music. They always seem to have a good selection of different records and it is fun to dig through everything to find that one hidden gem. I have had a really good experience shopping here every time I have been here and have been satisfied with my purchases. I am happy this store is here.

Kind of shady to have bootleg/unofficial records mixed in with official copies, doesnt help that he doesnt label them as such! New collectors probably wouldnt catch something like that, and the owner is banking on just that. Stay safe, scan all barcodes in discogs.

This place is the real deal! The owner, Bruce, has an extensive knowledge and inventory of records, and he sells them for a fair price. He has plenty of popular records in stock as well as deeper cuts (tons of Zappa, Hawkwind, CAN, etc.). Plus, there are some classical gems in the dollar bin like Debussy and Ravel.Record Stop is probably my favorite record store I’ve ever been to.

My boyfriend was raving about this place so I tagged along on a Saturday walk. This place is so cool, the small space has a fantastic vinyl selection, with lots of hard to find new and old records. We walked away with a handful of new records and a new turntable set thats already getting a lot of love. We were advised if there were any records we didnt see and wanted that the Record Stop would get them, literally ANYTHING. Cannot recommend this place enough, well worth the look.

Glad to see an active and busy record store, with customers of all ages. I found a couple of good looking gems here (havent listened to them yet). Some of the new record prices seem rather steep, but maybe thats because the hipsters are driving up the prices. They do have a dollar bin area, and the proprietor was very nice. Ill definitely stop in again next time Im in town.

Really nice store with a superb selection of new and older stuff. I was amazed, in a good way, by some of the prices--tons of instances of great deals, better than almost anywhere else Ive been. The organization was a bit confusing, things here, there, some underneath; and the used CDs follow kind of a winding single row around the perimeter of the entire store. Luckily I was able to find some things, and maybe their space is an issue, but I would strongly recommend this store.

Review №58

Long time collector here that really wanted to like this shop. Unfortunately, the previous reviews serve as a cover for some shady stocking practices. The rare presses and surprising prices people are alluding to are unauthorized bootlegs and gray market knock offs (cd, FM and mp3 rips to vinyl) produced in countries unencumbered by US copyright/licensing law. You will find this for almost all major artists in the store from the beatles to pearl jam (two examples I saw). It would be one thing if they were relegated to a bootleg or import section, but they are intermingled along with legitimate pressings so to fool inexperienced buyer into buying that sub $20 copy of Pearl Jams Ten on cheap color vinyl in a blurry, obvious print out cover with gray market, non-EU licensing. The artists dont see a penny when you buy these, and you can bet on the sound being trash as well since these labels dont have the rights to the masters. As for the used section, the condition grading is wildly inconsistent and often laughably off (VG and VG - being labeled NM), leading to inflated prices. You are better served making the drive out to Monster Music, a reputable shop with a much larger selection and reasonable grading and pricing.

Ok so I’m not one to write reviews (I think I’ve done one more but it was because an attendant at the bank I use, stayed an extra hour in the parking lot because I left my debit card in the air dolly) but I need to get this out there. Back in early June 2021, I started to look for the Faith Album by George Michael because my dad is obsessed with that song “one more try” and father’s day was coming up (this is somewhat a rare album and I couldn’t find it anywhere, not even online). The Record Stop Charleston was one of the stores I called to see if they had it. Of course they didn’t, like all the other places, but the man I talked to at this store promised he would find it for me (the only reason I remember this is because he actually took my name and number down). I thought ok, whatever, he’s just doing his job and pleasing a possible customer….then 6 MONTHS go by… people…you can’t make this up…. 6 whole months go by and Bruce, the owner (I think), leaves me a message in my voicemail on November 2, 2021 saying he found the album as promised and that he’d keep it on hold for me until I got back to him. I have never met a more dedicated man to his job than, Bruce. When I went to pick it up today, I met another dude who was told I was coming… Bruce was out so I never got to thank him. Well this is to show my appreciation, I truly hope you see this, Bruce. My dads gonna freak out when I show him what you helped me find. Thank you so much. This is about to be the best Christmas gift ever.
