I had an oat milk mocha and a piece of coffee cake. There was quite a bit of a line at 9:30 on a Saturday morning, but it moved quickly. The mocha was well-blended and tasted perfect. The coffee cake was absolutely delectable.Another plus - this shop allows folks to use the unisex restroom, unlike some other businesses on the Downtown Mall.
An amazing place to enjoy excellent coffee! Everything is great at this coffee house. . .the quality of the drinks, the service, the ambiance and the food offerings. SO happy we found this gem. My husband ordered the coffee with lavender cold foam. FANTASTIC! I ordered the Marsala chai. What an explosion of flavor. Really enjoyed this place and you can definitely tell the owners and staff are really into all of it!!
Wonderful oat-milk, pumpkin spice latte. I do with they had more gluten-free options.🙂
Atmosphere is nice. coffee and hot chocolate is subpar and prices are incredibly high. not really worth visiting unless someone else is paying.
Mudhouse is one of the first in Charlottesville to begin offering the elusive “cheese foam” - a delightfully sweet/salty balance. They have indoor and outdoor seating and are situated in the lively downtown. Their service is quick and staff friendly. A great spot for regulars.
Located in a lovely part of town, cute interior with a decent view of the outside street. Baristas where very helpful and prompt even with a steady stream of customers. A little more expensive then some places but the drink sizes are large. Music was a little loud and wasnt a genre of music that you would expect in a coffee shop, but all in all a delight little place.
Wonderful spot for coffee and a light breakfast, plenty of seating for individuals or groups, pretty quick barista service, fantastic coffee with lots of great options for pour overs, espressos, etc. The best pastries we tried were the little “power balls”, the chocolate croissant, and the bran muffin with oats on top. We also had the veggie quiche (small slice but very good crust) and the bacon egg and cheddar biscuit sandwich (very good), which were fresh made that morning. Will definitely be back the next time I’m in Charlottesville!
Had a great lavender iced coffee. Nicely priced and good service.
Cosy and hip. Mudhouse coffee roasters Charlottesville. Coffee like espresso, cortado or americano. Alternative milk or the very special MudCup.Very special also the various iced coffee specialties.Try the cake and cookies. Vegan double chocolate or applesauce ginger cake.Free Wi-Fi, of course. All in all : 🔝🔝🔝
Tried to be wild and ordered a lavender latte from there and it was amazing. Will be back for more coffee
Good coffee, fun shop.We came at the height of busy on a Saturday afternoon, so we did have a decent wait in a crowded store. However, the staff were composed and kept things moving.I had a drip coffee, which was very tasty. A little bit of a cocoa aftertaste, which I enjoyed. My daughter got an iced mocha which was delicious; a good balance of cocoa and sweet. And my wife got an iced chai with soy. Nothing special about it, but still good. They only have soy and hemp alternatives if you dont drink dairy, no almond.Clearly this is a popular spot with the college folks too; almost every sitting customer had their laptop and text book.I wouldnt hesitate to go back, but might look for another nearby spot if it was too busy.
Awesome strong coffee, so hot it takes a bit before you are able to drink it. Consider asking for an ice cube. 4 espresso shots in a large americano
They pull really nice espresso. I read a few comments about how this place is snobbish to not allow paper cups for espresso. Well they served me in a paper cup I guess due to covid. And I can see why they had insisted in the past to serve only in porcelain cups. They would taste better period. After the espresso I bought a bag of their beans and enjoyed it for another week at home.
No bad choices on the menu, and service is out of this world. Ask for John.
First, exceptional coffee. Second, exceptional customer service and staff. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Third, a nice little cafe to sit in or outside or just grab a to-go and walk around town.
This place is exceptional. The scene is an interesting mix of rustic/vintage urban and pretention. The coffee is consistently on point. The baristas and friendly and pull thought provoking espresso shots. Bonus points for the selection of Chemex and V60 brewers and supplies. Theres also a siphon pot if thats what youre into.As far as the internet is concerned, I normally pull between 100 and 200 Mbps. The numbers speak for themselves.
Great coffee and very personable with the staff. Couldn’t ask for anything better. Chris made me feel very welcomed and can’t wait to go back for the next cup!
My favorite coffee shop!
Cozy coffee shop right on the downtown mall. Great to grab a coffee and sit outside and people watch.
Everyone at our table was enjoying everything. There was quick, helpful, and friendly service. It has a great interior.
Friendly staff, always willing to go the extra mile to add extra items!
Not going to be returning here. Staff is rude and dismissive, more interested in gossiping with each other than helping out customers. The latte I ordered was way too milk heavy, didnt even taste like there was espresso in it.. and the nitro was incredibly weak and bland, I ended up throwing it out and buying a canned coffee drink (thats saying a lot when Id pick canned coffee over a craft drink). Having worked in coffee shops prior I was excited to try this place as it appeared to be a good spot. I wish it were true. The price is way too high for the quality you receive. Ill stick with Atlas or Shenandoah Joe.
The peppermint mocha was so delicious. Thanks to the friendly cashier who recommended it.
Love the atmosphere and the coffee. Looking forward to the coffee from Panama!
Love to stop here when Im in C-ville. Always great coffee
Stopped by while we were staying in town. Great atmosphere (Im sure its a great hang when COVID isnt a thing) and the coffee was wonderful. We didnt get any food, but it looked awesome!
Very limited seating, often crowded, often full of children, no cozy spots and tons of lights to cast glare on any screen. The door is constantly opening and closing so there’s always a draft, and the prices are uniformly about $1 higher than alternatives despite alleged poor working conditions for the staff. The staff themselves are usually quite lovely. The coffee is passable and quick. The art is... challenging. The atmosphere is somehow stressful.
Maybe I just came on a bad day, but I genuinely dont understand the appeal of this place. The espresso was charred beyond recognition and the oat milk in the oat milk latte my group ordered was similarly burned. The cold brew tasted like it was the prior days drip coffee thrown in the refrigerator overnight. To top it all off, one of the baristas was running between tables chastising customers for not putting their masks back on after every sip of coffee. I completely understand requiring masks while waiting in line or walking through the common areas, but if a business owner cant tolerate people not wearing masks even while they are sitting at a socially distanced table drinking coffee, then that business needs to just go back to takeout only. It made for an unpleasant atmosphere.Bad coffee, bad vibe. I recommend going to Milli Coffee Roasters instead. Its a four minute walk away and provides a much better product and experience.
Phenomenal espresso!
Stopped in here on a walk around the mall. Really warm day, the air conditioning in the building was nice, but no seats were available. Looks like it’s a popular place for people to drink coffee and work on their computers (one to a table), which is what a coffee shop is made for. The iced coffee was good, but the frozen latte was a little gritty.
Good coffee with friendly, efficient service and very good COVID protocols. Not much more you can ask for.
It was ok. Barista was learning on the job.
Bitter, overpriced coffee.
Delicious hot lattes and they have oat milk!
Coffee was good. Bathroom was closed to the public.
Amazing coffee and atmosphere. This place is legendary all around and has ranked in national competitions. They have nice tables and chairs to lounge inside and outside and they are very knowledgeable about what they serve. Their food and snack selection is limited, but yummy. It can get a little crowded which is a sign of a great cafe, but cam also be a little distracting of you were planning to study there so take into consideration the day and time that you plan to go.
The coffee here is amazeballs and the staff is super nice. This is always where I come to treat myself.
I have been stopping in the downtown location for a quick shot of espresso for several years however, this is no longer an option. Mudhouse has apparently made it a policy to refuse to serve espresso to go. I was told that this is because the espresso experience is superior when enjoyed the way they want you to enjoy it, which is apparently slinking in the corner trying to avoid running into other patrons who crowd the tiny space. I think their pretentiousness has finally reached the level of loving the smell of their own farts and thinking that you should too. Ill just go by Grit which is across the street and lets me have my coffee however Id like it.
Top notch coffee experience with kind and gracious employees. Mudhouse as an organization has become a true ambassador for the coffee movement. Love in action.
Love this place! It’s a great place to stop by and grab a drink and go, but I also love to sit down and get some work done! The staff is great, Adam is my favorite!! He’s always friendly and so helpful and willing go the extra mile to make everyone’s experience a little better!
Good coffee and friendly service. They have some small bites worth trying too!
Fantastic coffee, knowledgeable staff. A little on the pricey side - and that’s coming from a coffee geek used to DC prices. Highly recommend for a splurge.
Cozy atmosphere, nice staff, really cool art on the walls when I went. They give refills for pocket change (.50 for a small, a couple cents more as the size goes up). Only wish there was a little more room for seating, its a nice place to read/work so it seemed a little crowded when I went. Overall good coffee at a decent price. 👍
Coffee was good. At 10am there were no open seats. Wound up sitting outside, it was just barely warm enough for this. Glad they have lots of customers, but maybe try elsewhere if you need a place to do work.
This was a very nice experience. The drip coffee was exceptionally flavorful, and my wife really liked her latte. We both had savory pastries that were excellent, and the atmosphere was conducive for chatting, working, or just people watching! On a nice day, it would be fun to sit outside at one of their tables. The WiFi is open and available, which is fine with me. I imagine this place can get pretty crazy, but we went on a Friday morning and it was perfect. Well be back, for sure.
Great coffee definitely have some of the most skilled baristas in town working there. I just wish the level of energy and excitement in their coffee carried over to their baked goods which can be very hit or miss and expensive. I wish they would source pastry from a local bakery so I could support them more
Relaxed. Quiet. Calming.Summer or winter people are here. A mix of residents, mall walkers and a few University students. Those sugary treats to the right of the register are all very good also.Important: caffeine based persons can get coffee morning to late evening (10pm).
Good espresso, comfy atmosphere, and friendly service. Gave it 4/5 due to it being about 25% more expensive than Milli. Will continue to occasionally patronize their establishment though.
Its a fantastic coffee shop in the downtown pedestrian mall. Decent amount of space to sit and work. The coffee is great and they have some tasty looking snacks too, though I havent had the chance to sample them. Only thing, parking can be a bit difficult to get to because of the location, so better to take the bus in or walk in if you live close by.
Always love going to this place. It has the best vibe, and the workers are enjoyable! I love it over any other coffee shop in Cville. highly recommend
The most pretentious coffee shop I’ve ever been to. Refused to sell espresso to go because it would ruin the tasting experience if it wasn’t in a ceramic mug! I was told “just like you wouldn’t be served a glass of wine to go, we don’t serve espresso to go.” first of all, wine is alcohol not coffee and there are laws in place to prevent that. Coffee is coffee and should be served how ever the customer prefers. I try to support local but I will never go back to this place. GRIT coffee shop is a block away and they are HAPPY to sell you espresso to go.
Great alternative to the large brand coffee franchises. Great coffee and service! And there muffins are just awesome!
Regularly in Cville for work and had a heck of a time finding good coffee. Avoided mudhouse because chain but super happy I gave them a shot. Immediately became my go-to and the crozet location was a great spot too.
Very tasty coffee. I will be back.
Nice coffee shop with a cozy vibe. Delicious muffins and the coffee was good. Really sweet and friendly staff but it was very busy when I went on a Sunday morning. No places to sit and a lot of kids so I found it a little much for a Sunday morning. Also it was difficult to park so had to pay for parking a few blocks away which was annoying. Otherwise, it seemed like a solid place
Outstanding coffee in a comfortable atmosphere.
Locally owned coffee shop. They are serious about coffee! The beans, the Brew...but you dont have to be to pop in for a great cup. Also fabulous hot chocolate and speedy Internet.
Very very very very good lattes! Best muffin I have had in quite some time.
Excellent coffee house. Great music for conversation or getting lost in your work. Nice outside patio when its nice and a couple of covered spots when its drizzling.Ive grown to love the coffee. Its a light roast and might take some getting used to if you havent had it before.
Hot cups. No sleeves. Ask for extra cup. Drink your coffee on site. Travel is difficult.
Too expensive for what you get. Coffee is ok, but theres much better options close by for cheaper. Usually disappointed with non-regular coffee drinks I get.
Authentic cafe atmosphere with good coffee. The oat milk cappuccino was delicious!
Great place to work of you can find a seat. Good coffee, tea, and snacks!
This place has earned its excellent reputation. Fresh brewed coffee, expertly pulled espresso shots and a staff that truly cares about the craft. If you go to Charlottesville and you love coffee, this place is a must.
Absolutely the BEST coffee shop I have been to in all my years. I highly recommend staying in this shop, getting a great deal of items from the menu, and talking to some of their incredible baristas; as they are INSPIRING and phenomenal. Thanks, Mudhouse! :)
Best place to grab a cup of coffee on the downtown mall, good atmosphere will return! I also work right next door. Ashley is the best employee she always knows what I need as soon as I walk inside!!
I love this place! Admittedly, I have only ever gotten one thing: The Monkey. Maybe I should try branching out, but its so darn good, I cant ever seem to do it. The atmosphere is cool. There is usually a line, and its a bit difficult to navigate and find a seat.
My biggest complaint with this place is the seating. Chairs and tables are crammed together in a very non cozy way. There is also little room for sitting in a private nook or comfy chair. Otherwise, great location, good coffee!
Excellent atmosphere, ample seating, strong and fast wifi. Slightly pricey ($3 for a large coffee post tax, about 20% more than Starbucks), but not terrible. The drip coffee is unique; flavored with honey, lemon, plums, and/or oranges. Not a bad thing, just different compared to other coffee houses Ive been to.
Love the space - kind of a warm warehouse feel to it, if thats possible. Solid oat milk latte - a little sweet. Was a bit more expensive than I expected.
Tons of fruit flies inside the bakery case. It was gross and dirty. Coffee was blistering hot and they don’t have lids to keep the coffee from burning your hands.
Great place to stop when walking down the town mall area. delicious coffee & treats
It is aesthetic and the coffee is perfect love it here 10/10 recommend
The hot chocolate is delicious and not too sweet, exactly the way I like it. The latte is on strong side but good. The atmosphere is authentic and cozy.
Nice place, good service and prducts.
I love this place! The atmosphere is great and the service is fantastic. Ill continue to be a patron of this establishment as long as I am in the Charlottesville community.
Best coffee I’ve had in years. Got the same latte for 3 days in a row while in town. Wish I was closer or that they had other locations. If you love coffee, go to Mudhouse!
Charming hipster aesthetic and decent iced coffee, so a good option if you’re looking for some coffee on the downtown mall. Not a place I would frequently go, as the coffee is somewhat expensive and the place was crowded.
Designer coffee and lounge chairs, but they need to expand for more space. Great location for coffee on the go as you walk the Mall.
Educated service. Love the music and vibe. Got the brewed coffee which was nice and hot. On the brighter side as coffees go.
Cool place good vibe beats a place like Starbucks.
A peoples coffee shop. The musics a little loud (bring earplugs if you want to read), but in general its home away from home. Scary to think how many hours I mustve spent there over the past 20 years!
Great coffee, friendly staff.
Very nice coffee shop to stop by and visit. The only downside is parking because of the location youll most likely have to pay for parking. But there is plenty to do in the area and make it an afternoon.
