My favorite Joe location and favorite espresso in Charlottesville. The same person pulls the shots everytime Im here and they do an amazing job. Cant recommend this location more.
If you are visiting town you should go to the roast house on Preston for the ambience and experience. However, if you live around these parts then make effort to come out to this location. For whatever reason their drinks are usually notably better and it is also more often less crowded. Word of caution: outside seating is very limited, so dont plan to have a place to camp out during peak times.
Great service by very friendly staff this morning. Ive passed by many times on my way to the office, but never stopped. Decided to stop in today and grab a coffee. Not disappointed. Ill definitely stop again.
Nice spot to study, but the coffee takes the day. Arguably better than greenberry’s.
First time on town and stop for a coffee, time 5:02 pm.. door was not lock, customers still inside and barista told me: Sorry we are closed 😐... very disappointed..
Love this place! These folks are nice to trans people
As someone with a compromised immune system, I really appreciate Shenandoah Joe for taking the current pandemic seriously and creating a safe environment for customers. I always get mine to go, but since Covid-19 changed all of our lives, I have been sticking close to home. The only place Ive actually gone into since June is Shenandoah Joe, about three times a week. I dont stay long, maybe 5 minutes or so, but I feel safe there and am happy to see that just about every customer that comes in and out is also wearing a mask.
Always great coffee, environment and Staff!
My new favorite Charlottesville coffee shop. Their vanilla latte is amazing and the service was great!
Great coffee, nice people.
Great coffee and plenty plant-based milk options! Normally would rate 5/5. Typically love going here to work or for some quiet time because the atmosphere is perfect. However, last time I went the experience was mixed - although the baristas were friendly and well-mannered to me personally, they were chatting very loudly during the entire time I was there. They were also not polite to a customer who was not wearing a mask (COVID-19) and kept discussing the unpleasant experience in front of all the other customers that were in the coffee shop. Also, several friends of them came in to get coffee and the were telling them again about the mask incident and being very loud.
Wow.. Absolutely perfect latte craftsmanship. For many years Ive always gotten a 12 OZ dark roast Latte, no flavoring, from Shen Joe in the Burg. Some baristas had left and their lattemanship had gone down.. scolded and hot milk. Very painful. This location, oh my.. perfection. Absolute PERFECTION!!! Has brought hope back into my life, that Lattes can be great again. They are still great! AT this Ivy Location.. dear goodness me.. smooth, creamy, roasty. Im at a loss of words. You must try this location, you wont regret a single anything... No regrets, just lattelove. Wow...
Great place for coffee, both fresh and beans.
A legit coffee shop that actually knows how to brew good coffee! And not overpriced.. prefer this one above starbucks
A very pleasant place with tasty bakery (I took a delicious cherry scone) and pretty decent cappuccino
An lovely coffee shop, which has definitely been discovered. The last couple of times the only i have gone there has only been room at tables outside. Friendly staff, wide array of caffinated drinks.
For the coffee purist this is the place! They have multiple beans to choose from and various ways theyll brew the coffee. Definitely worth it!
Simply the best coffee in town!
My first visit. Very friendly and helpful staff. My [espresso] macchiato was perfect—a very smooth and rich dark espresso with a splash of carefully steamed milk froth, served at perfect drinking temperature. The half pound of Ethiopian Sidamo seemed pretty pricey, but I expect it will be great. Any more, it seems like all really good independent/locally roasted beans cost more than I usually pay for mass produced ones, but it’s good to support the smaller companies.
Always good coffee. I roast and grind green coffee beans at home, but I still come here for a good cup of coffee.
Great rotating choice of fresh well prepared coffees.
The baristas were friendly s and the holiday blend was delicious!
Great coffee, great location, and competitive prices make this a perfect spot to enjoy a few moments of downtime. Since its so close to the University of Virginia, it can get crowded with student patrons during peak times. However it is quiet and has good Wi-Fi. Coffee is perfectly prepared regardless of your drink of choice. Recommended!
Super chill coffee shop. Had a great chai tea latte. If I didnt live an hour away this would be my study spot! 😊
My favorite coffee shop in Charlottesville! I love their coffee and atmosphere. I like how their coffee isnt that sweet compared to other franchise brand. Mocha is relatively sweeter which was my favorite. A very nice place to go to when studying or meeting up with friends to chat.
Truly delicious coffee at a very reasonable price. Very impressed with this place
Great coffees and affordable for every pocket types.
What an amazing experience! Why cant all cafés be more like this one? Ive checked out the other locations which are pretty amazing but the hospitality and efficiency here has nailed above and beyond. Kudos to Amy, Shannon, and Jay. The Thrashers thoroughly enjoyed their time.
I am always in between Mudhouse and Shenandoah Joes as the best roaster in C-ville. Its like splitting hairs. You really cant go wrong with either.
Great selection of coffee with a simple to order from menu. Very cozy atmosphere with an assortment of booths, tables, a couch, and outdoor seating. Watch you coffee brew right after you order it.
Definitely a favorite for Cville coffee shops. Great drip over coffee, worth the wait. Limited seating.
One of my favorite places in Charlottesville to go for an afternoon of deep work. With a cup of smoky mountain.
Shenandoah Joe is the best coffee in town, hands down. This is their coffee bar location, not their flagship roastery, so its a bit more small scale than the Preston Ave. location, but you can still get a great selection of coffees and the espresso is always awesome. Seating is at a bit of a premium, but thats not really any different from most other coffee joints. This is the place to go if youre looking for a real cup of coffee.
When I want a nice latte and a quiet place to study I always go to Shenandoah Joe off of Ivy. The people are always wonderful to me there and always strive to make my experience happy one, especially the manager Amy, Eva, and Charlie. I always suggest and bring in multiple friends for study groups here at least four times a week. I havent been able to do that recently because the AC hasnt been working for quite some time now. It is ridiculously hot in there. Its cooler outside than it is inside the shop and its the middle of the summer. I have tried to sit and deal with the scorching heat and I just cant do it anymore. Its not like this problem has only been one day or two. It has been like this for a little over a week now. This place is normally packed with people and besides myself today there was only one other person in the shop. So unfortunately I am going to have to find another place to study where they know how to keep the AC running on a hot summer day. Oh and its one thing for me to be hot and discontent, because I can leave. The employees that have to stay there for their shifts are covered in sweat, dehydrated and uncomfortable. I feel terrible. I have seriously considered buying them a fan.....someone needs to fix this!
Good drinks, good people, lots of parking, and a nice place of study and relaxing!
Delicious, pour over drip decaf Eye Opener is available for all who need a warm drink in the afternoon.
Really sweet staff! I like the aesthetics. Good coffee!
Friendly fast service
Anytime Im in Charlottesville, Shenandoah Joes is my go to coffee place. Friendly staff, knowledgeable baristas and reasonably fast service (especially in the morning when the line is half as long as the cafe). Easy access off the main road.
Worst cappuccino ever — was really thin. Plus, my dad’s cafe au lait tasted terrible. Starbucks makes better coffee. Really disappointing.
One of the best coffee shops in the area. Only downside is that its so good its often crowded.
Always solid coffee and drinks.
A great place to meet and visit. Pleasant environment and good Joe!
Great coffee in a super cozy location.
Great pour over.
Great coffee and kind people.
Just got two 16oz cups of Honduran. Absolutely the worst coffee Ive tasted since GPC or Sanka. This is not a matter of taste; I have had beans from Honduras sent to me from friends in that country. I believe it was brewed with using twice the amount of grounds required. I even added 4-6 oz of half n half to dull the extremely bitter and sour flavor not tyoucal of this type of bean, or any bean from any origin Ive had.For the very first time in my life I poured out the coffee instead of drinking it. I have had coffee from them before (french roast) and it was good.Unfortunately, I didnt taste it until I reached my destination and did not go back to tell them.
Daves Blend...the best!
Amazing mocha, cozy atmosphere. Great for business meetings
Great place to grab some good coffee
Great coffee and baked goods!
Their coffee is simply the best!
Clean, cozy place for coffee. Friendly staff. The internet connection can be spotty...
Nice atmosphere, friendly service, great coffee. The booths are ideal for when you need a little privacy for your group.
Good place for coffee and great staff. Amazing Almond cake.
Delicious coffee. Individually brewed. ( pumpkin muffin was delicious too)
Went there with a friend. She got a coffee and a crossaint and paid 4.25$I got the same coffee and crosssint + 1 banana i paid 10.11$
A very good local coffee shop. The coffee is great, but im not as big a fan of the baked goods.
Great coffee, but if youre in a party of three or more, try another place. They do have seating, but all booths and tables are typically occupied by single students.
One of the best coffee shops in town
Coffee is superior, best you can find in town. Pastries... meh... Still, a really pleasant experience, recommended!
I think I need to say about my impression. I loved shenondoah Joe Ivy but I needed to wait for getting coffee while she (barista) have a chat with other people. She had conversation continously but other staffs seems to be hesitant to give a signal. I had the same experiences several times. Manager should know the fact your company lose customers while she is chatting.
Good coffee, good service. Wish they had more beans available, like their other location.
That Mocha... it’s the best, ever.
Best red eye out there...and I drink a lot of coffee!
Slow coffee.... but great coffee.
The coffee is excellent, though not always as hot as I would like it; my friends have made similar statements. However, some of the staff often seem disinterested in the customers, and more interested in the conversations they are having with their colleagues. Best coffee in Cville though, and when you do get to speak with someone behind the counter, they are very knowledgeable.Updated 10/11/15 (Three stars to two stars)I am very displeased with the service at the coffee bar on Ivy. I always order a pretty simple drink...a 16oz Redeye, Dark Roast, no room for cream. It took 15 minutes to make my drink, while 5 people that came in after me had their drinks first (Lattes, Soy Lattes...not just straight up coffee). By the time I received my coffee, it was once again lukewarm (and bitter) as I noted in my previous review. Who wants to drink lukewarm coffee?! I have been very loyal to this brand, but I think I will be looking for a new coffee house.
Passed through Cville and stopped to see my friend Cooper, said man i could use some coffee, Coop says, man I know just the place. So I followed him over to Shenandoah Joe on Ivy Road. Before I left Cville we only had a handful of places making really and I mean realllllyyyyy great coffee. I live in LA now and we have a cosmic ton of coffee joints. I wish we had Shenandoah Joe, or atleast can find a guy ( or girl ) to make me a traditional every morning. Holy Jeebus, one of the tastiest cups ever !!! I think his name was Chris,,, awesome cup man awesome.the place is warm and has a pleasing atmosphere. its spacious enough and they had many different coffee beans to choose from. took a pour over for the road and was sad when I reached the bottom of the cup. Will surely stop by again, great job guys love it
Not a bad cup of joe, but not enough to return. Friendly staff, clean environment.
The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about coffee. Bewarned you should expect a wait for drinks, because they make each cup of coffee individually, but it is worth every secound. This is truely the best coffee of my life. Their preston location is particurally neat because you can often watch the owner roasting beans.
Great place. Love it!
Great coffee and snacks.
Great coffee — just wish the staff didn’t act like you are an inconvenience to their personal lives while ordering said coffee.
Coffee here is great but they ran out of all baked goods by 11 am
I dont care for coffee but this place is rad
Incredible pour over
Nice variety and comfy setting!
The best coffee I have found Charlottesville.
Best coffee we have had in Virginia!
Great coffee!
Great coffee, great vibes.
Always a favorite place for a cappuccino.
