I love this place! Super comfortable, I usually come solo. The gal with red hair and glasses always waits on me and she’s a gem. I’ve had breakfast and a burger from here and both have been awesome! 14/10 would recommend :)
One of my favorite places to go to for breakfast in Charlottesville! Food is delicious and prices are reasonable. Ill definitely recommend this place!
Cavalier Diner has some amazing staff. They are good, caring folk. The ambiance is comfortable. It is simple, a little worn, and reminds my wife and I of places wed eat in our Midwestern youth in the 80s and 90s. The breakfast food is very good (lunch/dinner offerings less so). The prices are also good, but not such that you worry about the ingredients. All in all, Cavalier may not be somewhere to come in from our of town for, but if you live here its a great choice for a go to place for breakfast.
Home cooking and service. Friendly service. Decent prices and great food! We go here whenever in tiwn!
Wonderful! Best diner we’ve been to in Virginia! Breakfast menu all day, steak and eggs, hash browns, grits, and wonderfully delicious looking sandwiches and salads! The staff was top notch - so friendly and homey and attentive as well! The food was delicious and we will definitely be back! It’s over an hour from home, but any time we are in Charlottesville - we will be back!
This place is great! Me and 7 friends went here on a sunday after being turned down at several other local restaurants for breakfast. We called ahead and got a table as soon as we got there. There was only 1 waitresss who also handed the register and I assume less then the normal amount of cooks, She never seemed to let to let that bother her. Our food took a little long but with a large party it was to be expected. We couldnt have asked for better service, coffee was refilled without asking and out food was hot and delicious. Thanks again! We will be back.
If youre not careful, youll pass it. South bound lane on Emmitt St. Charlottesville, look for the sign on the side of the roof that says Pancake House. This place seems to have only one goal...YOUR COMPLETE SATISFACTION! Breakfast for lunch was absolutely delicious. The table next to me spoke amongst themselves when they saw my order saying oh look what he ordered, that looks so delicious. My next stop in here will be to try the GYROs. By the way, amazing and friendly service too.
Nothing like an old school diner. Reminds me of when I was i kid. Best ever!!
Good food. Worth the wait
The sever gets the star only times a hundred. I was a party of three and no one ate their entire meal only a very small portion. I sent an entire meal back because it was luke warm. But on a better note I loved the beer. Next time The Villa for sure. No we took the food to give to a homeless person we passed on the way there so dont mistaken that when someone takes food to go that they always eat it themselves. And being that you want to know everything why dont you also let people know that the older could across from us the lady sent her food back and I watched her in disgust literally pick her salad apart which she also didnt eat. Her husband had the quiche. Dont get upset about the FOOD you are serving because, evidently I am not the only one who feels this way.
Great family place good food if there stop by 🙂
A Terrible ExperienceI preface my review with the admission that I have been here several times in the past (weekdays) and received prompt service (waited on, coffee refilled, check delivered) and breakfast food that was good. My bad experience was on a Saturday around 11 am and the restaurant was about half full. Waitress said she was new and admitted being unfamiliar with menu, forgot to bring coffee with 2 reminders, forgot to find out the Wi-Fi password and communicate it, and never offered coffee refills. The restaurant was cold; I had to go get a coat and many customers looked like they were also cold. Our order (eggs benedict) was delivered 50 minutes after ordering (later we learned there were 2 cooks out). The eggs benedict has an odor and taste like mayonnaise. The only apology was one of the more experienced waiters said “sorry your food is taking so long.” I’d stay away on weekends and not get eggs benedict; stick with straightforward things like eggs and pancakes.
Saturday morning and they were very busy but the staff was efficient with everything moving well.Breakfast was excellent and reasonably priced.
Terrible breakfast!. Ordered 6oz ribeye with hashbrowns and biscuits. Steak was freezer burned and very tough! Overcooked they must have cooked it in a microwave. Hashbrowns were more like soggy noodles is the best I can describe them. Got 2 biscuits both were like hockey pucks. 1 I couldnt even bite through.Service was nice.
Very friendly and the food is great ❤👍first time ordered from here.
Good food and very friendly. I went there for years when I was a local. A local institution.
Delicious and great atmosphere!! First time eating here. Will definitely be back!
Great food and very kid friendly, brought our takeout to the car so I didnt have to haul the kids in and out!
Great food, great service, smaller than usual portions.
It was great and I useley go to IHOP but since the new management at IHOP the service has went down hill and people want to eat good food
Its a cute little diner the service was good wasnt to busy staff was nice I me and my grandfather got waffles and my mom and grandma got biscuits and gravy every thing was delicious I would come back
I tried this place, the food there is perfect and so yummy, I give it 9/10, the place was clean and neat. however, I didn’t like the service, it took me around 15 minutes to be noticed that I wanted to add another dish, and when i was still in the middle and my plates were half full, a lady got my my receipt and asked me if i wanted a box to take my food 😅 that’s was terrible, actually i give service 3/10
Food was exceptional. All were friendly n all in there talked 2 each other. Neat n clean. Omelette was perfect. Will go back for sure.
The Cavalier Diner is one of the very few public places I actually feel safe visiting these days. Masks are worn properly except by those actually eating, and everything is spotless. Lots of extra sterilizing going on, and it shows. The menu is somewhat limited for the time being, but there are still plenty of choices, and the food is always good. I also love all the stuffed animals used to block off tables to ensure social distancing. What a fun way to do it! Thanks, Risty, for providing a safe and fun place in these difficult times!
I was visiting from Virginia Beach area. We were looking for a nice breakfast local location. Saw this place. Went it a lot of of teddy bears all over. I order scrambled eggs with cheese. When my got my eggs it had a piece of cheese laid on top of it..
We love this little place in Charlottesville..we always get breakfast..They make the best scrapple and biscuits and gravy..Food comes out fast and hot and great prices..Love this little down home restaurant..
Very pleasant attentive waitress and good food.
Poor food. Looked like a cozy breakfast all day dinner named for UVA. Ordered an omelet and I have never had bitter tasting eggs before. Grits were luke warm and tasteless. Coffee was bland.Waitress was very nice.
Eggs were bitter and the grits were luke warm. The service was good. Not impressed with the food.
Great experience all around :-)
The Cavalier Diner is the best place to take your family for breakfast in Cville. It is family-owned and staffed by the friendliest staff around. We eat there 2+ times a month. Love it!
Great selection. Good food and service.
Super cozy, simple and tasty breakfast and the staff was really nice. They also had a bunch of stuffed animals out at every other table to enforce social distancing.
Hearty breakfast, quality food, quick service. Everything came in perfect portion sizes. Biscuits and gravy were top notch. Perfect little diner for a cozy meal
Good place to eat friendly people
Good country home cooked meals! Delicious!
We got take-out. The breakfast was very good. Good portions. My husband loved the french toast. Thanks!
Staff really friendly. Place was clean and seating was separated with stuffed animals on tables not to be used. Food was hot and tasty. This was our first time but wont be the last. Very cute.
It was pouring outside and the restaurant was closed. The owner came to the door and let us in.We were so grateful to the zoning Commission that was meeting there and had agreed to let us in out of the rain.Once in we were welcomed with open arms. Best pancakes in a long time. This cute place was the high light of our stop to Monticello.Thank you to the owner and the Zoning Commission we will never forget your kindness..or pancakes
Nice people good food fair price
Solid diner food. My wife enjoyed our late breakfast. Very clean and staff were observant of covid protocols. Will return again.
They have the best omelettes. Very clean nice place!
I like the clubby atmosphere. Decent food.
My daughter Sarah brought me home breakfast today & it was DELICIOUS! I believe it was the best western omelette & fried potatoes Ive had in a decade. Whoever is doing the cooking needs a pat on the back.
Solid diner fare, prompt and friendly service. Breakfast anytime!
Not well organized, terrible service and the food is bland. They talk a great game but ultimately fail to deliver. Do not recommend.
Always excellent food, waitress was friendly and professional.
Almost hidden gem, when Google tells you best breakfast, believe it! I had the Greek Omelet with grits (excited to see that option!). It was extremely generous, really fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked. My companions had the steak and eggs with hashbrowns. They both reported them perfectly cooked.A great diner has someone who knows how to handle the grill. Cavalier Diner is a great diner. The service was fast and friendly. I can see why they have a large crop of regulars, who even came in on their day off.If youre in Charlottesville, dont miss Cavalier Diner. Well be back for sure!
Great service, always with a smile. Love the selection. Food never fails, always wonderful!
We stayed at an AirBnB in Stanardsville for two nights and made our way to Charlottesville, where my friend found one of her favorite places - a quilt shop. We needed lunch afterward and found this place a couple of blocks away.I much prefer owner operator eateries to chain places. This place is a good reason why. Quick service, good food, good variety without overwhelming you with choices. Wed be regulars if we lived there.
Been calling their 2 phone numbers multiple times and to of no answer. This is bad service. Ive called at 15 til 8 am. And about 1:30 pm. Do you all not take any calls from the public.
Softest & Best biscuits & gravy I’ve ever had in all the diners I been to in VA. Wish I lived closer this would be my spot.
Today was my first experience with the Cavalier Diner. Breakfast and service were both great. Keep up the good work. I will be back.
Loved my grilled cheese on rye! Always enjoy the atmosphere and the great service!
Wonderful staff, great hometown vibes
The atmosphere was dark- no ceiling lights on. Felt uninviting. Didnt like the handling of a late arrival customer.
Lovely breakfast spot.
Went for breakfast while travelling from Texas. Really enjoyed our visit to this diner! Quality of food was excellent and the service was superb!! The atmosphere was relaxing and inviting, prefer this type of experience over the major chain restaurants.
Food is delicious and the staff makes you feel like you are family
Good breakfast
It was great.
Hey chip beef gravy on biscuits and gravy was cold and viscous while hot so hard to enjoy
Food is poor burnt sent it back twice too expensive
The hot water faucet on the bathroom was turned off. Omelette was good. Biscuits were bad. Bad biscuits? Yes, apparently there is such a thing. Waitress was very sweet. No plans to go back.
Best French Toast I enter had. I live two hours+ away and thinking when I can make it back
Low prices, friendly staff, great food, and family owned! Support this local business!
Big tasty omelets and fat crispy bacon. Good oatmeal. I always sit at the bar when I come here and watch whatever sporting event is on the tube.
This was our first visit. Super nice staff. We felt right at home as soon as we were greeted at the door. Had the chicken parmigiana dinner, which was a huge meal. I took half home. The food isnt spectacular, but the atmosphere and staff make up for it. Cozy place.
Good food and better staff...Will be back soon !
Good food and great plating.
Food was really good. Hostess was kind and considerate. Service was great. Defiantly worth a stop off. Family did breakfast. Everyone loved the food.
Belgian Waffle🎯Rusty and Sal are the best🍴🍛
Although the decor was a little blah, (it IS a laid back place) the food tasted ridiculously good, and fresh! And the service? The servers working there were just the warmest, most friendly ladies who clearly enjoyed working with each other, almost as well as they loved taking good care of their customers (us!)
From the moment I got to the Cavalier Diner I was impressed. The host was friendly and talked to us about his adorable dog as we waited to get seated. The place was busy but we still got plenty of attention. The food came out as ordered and it was great. The eggs Florentine, french toast, home fries, grits, and scrambled eggs were all delicious.A couple notes on the atmosphere. It is not a retro 1950s style diner if thats what youre looking for. Its also more popular among Charlottesville residents than the college students
Waited on food to long. Food was cold when I finally got it.
Customer service is excellent.
Nice place right off the 29. Super friendly staff, good food. Lost a star because the plates were broken and severely stained. The flowers were in christmas pots in August... obvious not a lot of care goes into decor. Also what omelet doesnt come with potatoes? Never been to a diner or any eatery that doesnt have potatoes with their omelets... The food was good, nothing super special but definitely clean plate club here.
Great food, fast service, and very pleasant servers.
We ate breakfast there. The food wasnt hot and the oatmeal was instant...not tasty.
We were in town for the night and stopped here for breakfast. We always go to the small local places before a franchise. The atmosphere was very welcoming, the service was great, the food was great and everyone there was very nice. We have bookmarked this place and when we are in town again we know where we are eating. If you love the small town feel, with good home cooking and friendly service I highly recommend this place.
My waitress was sweet. However, for this to be a pancake house...I didnt really think the pancakes tasted all that great...the corned beef hash was good though. Thats all I have to say.
Just found a new Favorite Place to eat. Wonderful atmosphere. 2 beautiful waitresses. Cant wait to go again in August. Long as they remember my Name. James Setzer Jr
Nice small spot with good service and food. Good for a nice breakfast with friends
Great home cooked food, friendly staff, clean, reasonable prices, good portions. Ive never had anything that wasnt good.
Great grits and eggs. Bacon was a tad bit dry, but still a delicious breakfast. Biscuits and gravy were perfect!
Great food and service
Placed takeout phone order on 5/21/20. Google site said restaurant was open. Order went through ( with tip) and said order could be picked up at 9:35. Arrived at restaurant and it was closed. Tried calling and phone rang 4 times and cut off. What kind of operation accepts on line orders and processes credit card charges, advises time order will be ready, and isnt even open?
Always delicious breakfast, coffee, and comfort food. The service is always spectacular. You feel like family the moment you walk in.
Great place to eat! Their pizza is awesome! Im excited for them to move to their new building as Im hoping it will be a little more up to date.
Went here based on my credit card points. Great decision. Small town diner feel. The entire staff was so attentive. The food was classic. Nothing fancy. You can cook it all at home. But if you dont want to, this is a great place to visit. I went around 10AM so it wasnt very busy. I had one of the breakfast specials. I cant remember the name of it. But I had French toast, two eggs fried hard with cheese and tomatoes on top, bacon, and side of grits. And I had a coffee. All delicious. Ill be back for sure.
We had the best Waitress ever! Ask for Eleanor! The sweetest lady ever. She went over and beyond the call of duty. We will be back!
Friendly staff, clean location, good food
Oh my goodness!!!! Amazing southern foods. We ordered breakfast and it was just like were had cooked it ourselves. Poor waitress was so sweet! She was patient with us when were asked her to explain scrapple. My husband and I are spoiled with liver mush as we grew up a short bit from its start. We heard odd things about scrapple but she did great in explaining the difference. We ordered it to try and it was great! It is very bacony flavored, especially ordered crisp like we did. We cant wait to go back for a breakfast date again!
This place is a staple in my day to day work week. Great staff that offers a warm and friendly environment. Greasy spoon diner at its finest that hasnt been taken over by the hipster movement, thank god.
I absolutely love this place. The waitstaff is very kind, and makes you feel at home. Being able to have breakfast all day is great!
