For any and all chocolate lovers, this store is a nested shrine to cocoa. In this area, I don’t think another place could compare. I went in to try a coffee and pastry, as I was curious about the chocolate selection but wasn’t in the mood to drink chocolate. Since the store’s a bit small, the layout and flow is a little awkward with distancing in place. Nevertheless, had a slightly higher priced latte than I was used to (typical of La Colombe imo) and a very very good, unique pastry! As much as the pastry was delicious, I didn’t have a great experience. The first employee, though I was the only customer, was quite unhelpful and felt disinterested in answering any of my questions. It was hard to read or discern the menu for all the food and drink options. Thank goodness a second employee appeared to help me and recommend something to eat. As a chocolate store, I am excited by all the drinkable chocolate items! However, if I’m to visit again, it would be for those items specifically. Did not feel like I was welcome to explore the options available, even though I was a lone customer in the store.
Just yum. Any coffee drink with chocolate and any pastry (savory or sweet) are a cant miss. Perfect lamination, color, and flavor on the pastries. Drinking chocolate was to die for (duh!).
Um, hello! Rock the Casbah drinking chocolate was sooooo good. Not overly sweet. It has a nice savory, spice note to it so you werent sick of it by the end like so many drinking chocolate can get. They had a large variety of chocolate bars form all over the world along with many in-house delicacies. The dark chocolate turtle was very good. Just what I wanted it to be with a nice salt kick. Super friendly staff and a cool neighborhood to stroll in. Worth a visit!
Great coffee at a reasonable price. That alone should bring you in the door. The staff is friendly and they work efficiently. Coffee tasted fresh and was not over-roasted. Theres a lot more to the place than just coffee, so I will be back soon.
Tried the pumpkin hot chocolate which was quite nice and there is a more than decent selection of chocolate brands here
I think I tasted all the hot chocolate drinks in their default menu and I always try to get the new seasonal/holiday specials. So far I wasnt disappointed, everything is very high quality and delicious. They also have the good selection of unique chocolate from all over the world.
Decent, but disappointing for a chocolate focused cafe. The drinking chocolate was not as thick or rich as described. The smores tasted like they came from a factory, even though I think they make them themselves. A cafe like this really needs to step it up in 2021.
Nice place with great quality pastries, coffee, chocolate. I will definitely come back.I was the only customer in the store, the employees(2) were unhelpful to suggest and explain the menu options. I felt unwelcomed. But the other lady(I am guessing the owner) was very nice and helped me to open the door since I was with a stroller.
Five stars for the excellent service! I was so happy with the taste of their cappuccino and their red velvet cake. The taste was so delectable and satisfying. The service was so fast, and it made me impress with them. I couldnt ask for more from them! They are the best! Strongly recommended to everyone!
Great Americanos! Very friendly service! Plus....supporting locally owned business!👍
I decided I wanted to try some really good hot chocolate, so set off on a walk from the South Loop to this place since it had promising reviews. I definitely wasnt disappointed-the Mayan hot chocolate was incredible!!I also really liked the empanadas! The egg didnt reheat so great when I warmed it up in my microwave, but the delicious crust and the spinach more than made up for it!
Great quality chocolates and loved their spicy chocolate drink, the chocolate bars could be little less expensive!
Great coffee and chocolate cake, but very poor service, I wonder how such a good products are offered by employees who seem not to enjoy their work
I love a place that specializes in one thing and does it well, and Cocoa + Co. is one of those. Id recommend the classic dark cocoa.
Absolutely incredible chocolate chip cookies!
Best chocolate in the neighborhood. Delicious chocolate and coffee drinks. Seems a bit expensive, but good quality. Street parking only, if you are lucky.
Came in a few weeks ago to meet a friend and coffee. I order a drink and ask the girl if it was sweet and her response was “it’s made with 65% cocoa you tell me”. My friend and I are talking with a pastry in our hands ready to bring to our mouth and Miss I’m bored and I wanna inflect my misery on someone comes running at us to wear our mask in between bites. NEVER AGAIN.
I only drink americanos but I order a mocha every time I visit. They have the best mocha that isn’t too sweet and has great chocolate flavor.
Lots of choices. Great service. And a surprise:. empanadas!
Fantastic place to get artisanal chocolate from around the world. They also have a drink called The Fix (not on the menu) there which is amazing if you love chocolate. Its melted dark chocolate (65%) mixed with just enough cream to make it drinkable. Phenomenal. This is the only place Ive found outside of the Angelinas Chocolate in Paris that has this kind of chocolate drink. I realize that sounds a little douchey, but its so so good :)
Being a Belgian I don’t joke about chocolate. I ordered a classic and the banana nuts cake. It was a five star experience in the Chicagoan covidian autumn. No picture, nsfw content is forbidden here.
My wife has a dairy allergy. Like could kill her kind. So finding a chocolate place that can do dairy free stuff is hard in America. This place is mostly dairy free and very high quality. We had there hot chocolate drinks they were some of the best we have ever had and didnt miss the milk. I would be interested to see how good it would be with some full fat milk. But I might never want anything else and I dont live anywhere close so probably wont even try.
The coffee/espresso drinks were average yet expensive. The staff was cold and unwelcoming; no “thank you” when ordering or tipping. The music was incredibly loud, but the aesthetic was cute. Didn’t try the treats.
Delicious chocolate. They can drop their attitude and smile a little though!
Been here twice. Every single thing weve had - drinks to savory food to baked goods - has been excellent. Friendly service. Best golden turmeric latte ever.
Delicious vegan, dairy free hot chocolate. Very high quality ingredients. Dairy free either oat or almond milk. They of course do have the regular dairy option.
I love this place. The staff is the best part about it- so friendly and warm, they do an amazing job making you feel welcomed. Im a regular, since I live in the area, and they never miss a beat with my order but they definitely enjoy it when I switch things up on them as well! ;]
Cocoa and Co. is a great little chocolate/coffee shop with a great selection of chocolates from around the world, espresso drinks, and bakery items. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The barista made a pretty cool pumpkin latte art in my cup.
Nice little shop with good coffee and tea selection and bakery, sandwiches, quiches etc.
This coffee shop sells fine chocolates, which make for great gifts. Coffee is from La Colombe with cold brew and nitro cold brew available. The breakfast empanadas can’t be missed.
Just had the carrot garlic soup and I think im hooked! Super flavorful and the spices are balanced - I usually get sick of food with a lot of spices right around half way, but this was so good I plowed right through the whole bowl. Their Biscotti is some of the best Ive had!
Excellent coffee and food. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and inviting. The location is close to everything happening in Old Town, but quiet and relaxing, just a short walk away. All in all, a most enjoyable experience.
Good atmosphere, friendly staff. They had a diverse selection for hot chocolate.
As seen in other reviews, the staff wasn’t very welcoming nor friendly at time of visit. The website (as well as the door in the front of the store) states that closing time is at 7pm, yet the staff was locked and cleaning up by 6:30 pm. One of the staff members did let us in although he looked a bit annoyed. They gave us our coffee and we felt uncomfortable being there even though the coffee place should’ve technically been open for business. We ate and drank our coffee outside and saw that others wanted to go in, but one of the staff members made sure to lock the door as soon as he saw people nearby. This was at 6:46pm (still not closing time!!!). I give it a 3 because the coffee was good and the place is actually really pretty.
Great chocolate and love the nitro cold brew. Only wished they has some sweet cream.Place was very nice to relax and enjoy time with friends.
Very cute place and delicious food and drinks, the coffe was nice and smooth, the chai was good and spicy, would recommend!
Very friendly staff, a chocolate lovers paradise and they even have savory items. A wide variety of chocolate, in many forms, from all over the world. Very simple but elegant decor.
Place is nice enough. Ok for hot chocolate, skip the coffee. Didnt try the chocolate. Coffee was average at best.
The coffee and the ice matcha latte were excellent. The pastries were so wonderful for breakfast. The service was also superb!
Too pricey ! They have different ways of making coffee on the expresso machine which I loved however the flavor and strength of the coffee wasn’t as anticipated. Also ordered a 4$ bakery treat banana bread and chocolate and it wasn’t tasty ! Spent 15$ For two coffees and two bakery sweets ! A bit on the pricey side
Amazing chocolate shop -- chocolate from all over the world (seems like hundreds of brands!) and a very tasty selection of hot cocoa, mocha, and coffee drinks. There is very limited space to sit and enjoy a cup here (four small tables) but the vibe invites a longer stay.
My domestic partner and I were shopping for a sweater for our golden doodle, Mitzy, with little luck. On our walk home, we thought, wouldnt it be reinvigorating to have a hot drinking cocoa? Some of the gals from my bridge group told me about this dear little spot on N Wells with all sorts of fabulous exotic chocolate bars and beverages. We went in not expecting more than your average run of the mill sugar dispensary, but boy were we wrong! Kim runs a world class operation here. She curates her chocolate selection like a top tier sommelier. We so enjoyed hearing all about the quirky chocolate makers she features at Cocao + Co. If you love chocolate and you love yourself, youll love Kim and Cocao + Co Cafe.
This is a small tea and chocolate shop that also does coffee and espresso, but you definitely go for the drinking chocolate. The abuelas elixir was delicious. My wife had a matcha latte that she loved. They also have chocolate tasting parties which I look really tasty and fun. Its an eclectic location, and I feel like I would not be out of place if I had a suit and tie on.
A very high quality products in a slick, but not posh, setting. Best hot chocolate drinks I have tried as far as I remember. Full of flavor, not overly sweet. Gives La Maison Du Chocolat run for its money.
Thoughtfully made drinking chocolate with delicacy and attention to detail, with frozen hot chocolate and ice cream sandwiches for hot weather, and an unusually broad selection of artisanal chocolate bars and hot chocolate mixes. Friendly staff, and good coffee too.
Its amazing how many cafés sell bad tasting coffee. I drink espresso, so it is very evident. This place has delicious coffee.
Staff/ owner was very nice, welcoming, and helpful. Plus, their mayan magic (similar to mexican hot chocolate) is BOMB. Cute little place.
I was visiting Chicago and stopped in this Cocoa+Co location after hitting up a class at the Flywheel next door. It was also the weekend of the Wells Street Art Festival, so there was a lot happening around, and much foot traffic related to the festival. This was a cute spot, and I just wanted a cold coffee with some almond milk in it. I was encouraged to try one of the specialty flavors, and it was black pepper and fig (and maybe something else). I wasnt sure what Id think of it - but it was incredible. Great recommendation by the barista, and very refreshing as I went back out into the heat of the weekend and waited for a bus. An above-average coffee stop (that also had decadent/fancy sweets/confections, but I did not try those).
We went here on a food tour and sampled some delicious drinking chocolate and two single origin chocolate bars. The chocolate was yummy, but I found the prices of the bars sold in the shop rather high even for fancy chocolate ($8-12 per bar).
My friend and i came in to check out this place last week and it wasnt the best experience. The employee seemed a bit uninterested and we didnt feel like we were very welcome there. We did come in in the last hour before closing but still..
The atmosphere of the place was great! Nice music, amazing coffee (proper macchiato!) and the treats... oh my god the treats... just come, you wont regret it one bit!
Excellent cappuccinos, tasty apricot cookies, cozy and stylish interior and very knowledgeable owner - great tips on architecture and sights of the city. 5 stars!
Fantastic! 😎
Amazing hot chocolate!
Rich, delicious, decadent, all the words you want to hear from a place that does chocolate stuffs.
Stopped in to warm up with a matcha latte. Cute space, beautiful chocolate truffles, kind staff!
We love their chocolate and coffee in the morning
Really cute place. They have a lot of interesting chocolate options.
Rich and thick hot chocolate neither thick nor rich. Why list it that way on the menu? Like a good cup of SwissMiss, but thats about it.
Walked in out of a rain storm and stumbled upon this hidden gem. It’s like I’d died and gone to coffee and chocolate heaven AND they had gluten free pastries!!
I dont know but they gave me a cup with la colombe label ????? I like Cocoa+Co.
The hot cocoa drinks were fantastic! Very rich and decadent.
Great place to hangout with a cup of hot chocolate 😋
Horrible Hot chocolate
Excellent and impressively curated collection of delicious chocolate!
Cute place, comfortable, and clean, but the wifi was a little spotty and it made it harder to get work done
Great place to get treats and quality chocolate bars. Including Amano, which I have yet to find elsewhere in Chicago!
Stopped by Cocoa+ Co. to get a mid-afternoon drink and snack with some friends while we were in the area. From the minute you step in, you can definitely tell that its more on the upscale side. We initially headed here because the Yelp page looked promising, and the reviews raved about the quality. The staff is generally nice and helpful with offering suggestions, but werent really friendly or welcoming, even though the place was pretty deserted at the time we stopped by. It definitely does look fancy and instagrammable, which may be part of its appeal.I ordered a Chai Latte and had a slice of Banana Bread, while my friends opted for Coffees and other pastries. I cant speak too much to their experience, but mine was pretty mediocre. The Chai was not bad, but not special in any way either. The banana bread was kind of sub par, which is unfortunate because I was really yearning for some solid banana bread.Overall Id say this place is probably overhyped, but if I had to go back Id try a Hot Chocolate and a different kind of pastry. I can only speak to my experience, but if I were you, Id try another option, theres definitely no shortage in the area.
Will visit again. Great place, tasty cocoa, nice chocolate and sweets selection!
This place is a little gem in Lincoln Park. If you go here you must try the frozen hot chocolate.
Chocolate lovers dream. I drive 40 minutes from the suburbs just for the German chocolate cake alone!
High end truffles and chocolate. Bean to bar from all over. Espresso and ice cream, too.
It was great. They actually speak to you as a human being. The choices are minimal which is great for a person who as indecisive as me.
Mayan Magic! Delicious.
Wow... Chocolate heaven. The variety and selection blows my mind
Uniquelydelicious concoctions and very friendly staffUPDATE: I tried the Rock the Casbah and it was delicious! So many flavors intermingled, very unique!
I recommend double fisting... a hot chocolate Parisienne AND a coffee latte
Kim has a real passion for chocolate and will change your perspective in one conversation. Very good drinking/eating chocolates and you can always stop in for a coffee.
The best frozen hot chocolate in town.
Really expensive
Excellent peanut butter bomb
Chocolate, chocolate chip icecream sandwish😍😍😍
Mayan hot chocolate rocks!
Good tea& good chocolate.
Nice staff
