Great coffee and had an excellent pumpkin and chocolate chip muffin. Our server Brie provided excellent advice on what to order and was friendly and really made the experience a great one.
Their hot chocolate is very very watery! I ordered the triple dark hot chocolate and I was disappointed by its lack of flavor and thicknesses. LA Burdick has a much much better hot chocolate so dont waste your money at this place.Bakery is okay but overpriced. I havent tried their truffles but given the taste and quality of the hot chocolate I probably wont get any truffles or come again.
Perfect to take your child for some breakfast or for some dessert, too!!! There are healthy and delicious options and the prices are affordable. The strawberry crepes are delicious and the bacon croissant, we both loved. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Excellent service!!!
Popped in for coffee and dessert on a Sunday afternoon. For desserts its mostly chocolate confections on display with a smaller selection of cakes and pastries. They make dessert crepes to order as well. We tried there chocolate eclairs on a recommendation from the staff and had it them with coffee. They serve Illy brand. Both were good.
Amazing service! We got there right at close and they served us so well! Yummy and highly recommend
Such a cute place!! Indoor and outdoor seating. Great crepes and great service. Perfect for a casual brunch
For years, I order online their chocolates. Fast shipping and never had a trouble with chocolate quality after delivery any time of the year in the South. Great packaging that keeps fresh their chocolate boxes. Highly recommended.
Rocher was fantastic, but coffee was only good.
We had high hopes for this little cafe, as it was right around the corner from our hotel. However, the crepes we ordered were lacking in flavor. I had a brie, walnut and apple crepe which was lacking in brie. My wife had a strawberry crepe which was practically tasteless. Both were actually pretty tasteless. We will be trying somewhere different next time.
Great food and great service. Would definitely go back!
Great place and service!!Love their crepes and croissants!!
Having seen one of the reviews mention their amazing crepes and hot chocolate I was so excited to try them out but to my disappointment the hot chocolate was indeed watery and crepes were poor @cindy was right
Very tasty chocolate croissant
Probably my favorite local coffee shop, their drinks are accurate to what they should be (IE the difference between a Starbucks latte and cappuccino is negligible but here it is happily different.) The seating is small but always has been adequate for two to four people. More is possible but not always. They have quite a chocolate selection, gelato, crepes and pastries in addition to their great coffee selections. This is definitely a cafe people should try.
Amazing place, delicious chocolate, and great service.
I adored my pitstop over here! After a long walk outside in the windy Chicago cold, I went in to get warm over hot chocolate. I have been in the USA for 4 months and I miss our Belgian chocolate, no country can beat our taste. So I had to get it over here and Leonidas café did not disappoint. My hot chocolate was heaven and my perfect European pancake with hot chocolate sauce was delicious. It really was our Belgian chocolate! Totally worth the price!
Great cozy place. The coffee is A-, but the chocolate is A+. Friendly personnel. Highly recommended.
Amazing chocolate and macarons, really amazing tastes of different types and shapes
Europes finest cafe, transported to Chicago. Fresh baked chocolate croissants, crepes of all kinds, cakes, espresso drinks, amazing hot chocolate, gelato, and of course, the worlds best Belgium chocolate.
My friend introduced me to this cafe. I’d walked past hundreds of times, without realizing they were more than just a chocolate shop. We stopped in this weekend for a bite and some hot drinks. I had a delicious spinach, sun-dried tomato & goat cheese quiche and warm apple cider to drink. I loved everything I had. The service was excellent and I plan to be a regular.
Small cozy clean cafe. Felt like I was in Europe as I drank my most delicious salted caramel hot chocolate. Literally like drinking melted chocolate, for some may be too sweet But I LOVED it. Lots of chocolates selection!
Private label teas, ice cream and gourmet chocolates. Mmmm!!My wife LOVES the crepes. She tries a different one each time we go. The service is great. The store is kid-friendly, & gift boxes are available when purchasing for that special someone. They even have a rewards program! (Recommended if you go often.)Pro Tip: Ask for a real spoon when enjoying the ice cream.
Leonidas is a fantastic Belgian chocolate company. After research before my trip to Brussels in Belgium, I found the three best/main chocolatiers were Neuhaus, Leonidas, and Godiva. In my opinion, their quality were also in that order (all good however). To my delight, I found a location in Chicago, as they are not so common in the US. This particular location was nice, it had a small café where you can sit and enjoy the treats you just bought, which I havent seen at all Im Brussels or the Neuhaus I found in DC. This location also had gelato, and the workers were very friendly- offering to make a milkshake per my request even though it was off the menu. However, I changed my mind to the extreme dark hot chocolate (made with several scoops of their dark chocolate milk, some powder and milk) which was delightful, thick, and very rich, just how it should be.
Their coffee is good, their chocolates are obviously great, Belgian of course! I had a croque monsieur, it was nice!
This is a chocolate shop selling various kinds of chocolate, drink and small food. So it has something special compared to other cafes, but it is not special about taste, service and comfort. First, the taste is normal. There are various menus, but people choose limited. I do not recommend anything other than chocolate, especially. Next, the service is too common. Finally, the place is too narrow and the indoor is hot. Many people choose outdoor, but it is difficult to get services. In other words, its a good place if you take your chocolate, but its too bad to stay here.
Love it. The triple hot chocolate was really soothing after a long walk shopping back and forth through Michigan. Their other menu like chocolate and cakes were also tempting & delicious. Small place but nice & warm interior. Sure I will visit this place again and recommended.
My sister bought me Leonidas chocolates before when she went to Europe. The chocolates were really good. When I knew Leonidas store opened in Chicago I was so excited to stop by. I went with my family one of the weekends. The place was hard to find. But, that’s okay... The problem was the store was very untidy, I would say not clean/messy for a store selling food/desserts. I was very disappointed coming in to this store.Overall:Service: 3starsFood: 3starsPrice:$-$$Not recommended!!! ☹️
What a wonderful little store! Delicious treats....too many to choose from. :-) We worked with Jo who was so patient and explained things so well. She helped us throughout our time there from the chocolates all the way through the ice creams and sorbets. Loved how we could pick and choose what we wanted so easily and yet it was very reasonably priced. Great service! Will go again!
Exceptional and decadent Extreme Dark Chocolate Hot Chocolate. Cute little shop with delicious looking crepes and treats. Definitely will be back next time were in the neighborhood.
Delightful crepes and coffee, with a large variety of delicious chocolates. Very friendly and helpful staff. One of my favorite spots to relax after work :)
The hot chocolate was too sweet i would appreciate having a dark chocolate in my hot chocolate. But we loved it specially in a freezing chicago weather
I was disappointed. It was mostly candies, mostly the kind you can find pretty much anywhere. Nothing really stood out as amazing. Granted, I was also there when they were in the middle of moving out Christmas decor and moving in Valentines stuff so the place was a disaster and probably not normally like that, but shouldnt you take that into consideration? It was 1pm on a Friday. Seems like they couldve done some of that on a day when they were closed.
We were walking around downtown and spotted this shop, cute, warm and welcoming shop. While I was peering through the window at the menu I looked up and my son was already inside looking back at me. It was cold out and we wanted something hot. My son ordered the salted caramel hot chocolate, he said it was really good. I ordered the Mexican hot chocolate which was great (Highly recommend if you like cinnamon). We also ordered brownies which we didnt eat until we were home, I ate my brownie warm and it was so GOOOOOD! Walking around in the cold stop by for some delish Belgium hot chocolate and great brownies.
We were taken to this place in downtown Chicago by a local friend insisting on a good cup of coffee, as one would usually find in Belgium. Although the coffee was alright, the pastries did not live up to their cultural franchise. Unforgivable, we thought.
Fantastic little shop. I got the tiramisu gelato and a chocolate eclair. The gelato was perfectly creamy and textured with ladyfingers cookies. The serving portion was also very generous. The eclair was incredible, and had a chocolate filling which was a wonderful surprise. I would definitely recommend stopping by here. Really friendly staff too.
Great little place for desserts and drinks, Jo was super friendly and helpful! The drinks are super good and what coffee should be, no doubt super fresh. Not much seating, but a quiet little place to enjoy your coffee!
Amazing Gelato, delicious deserts cakes, rich hot chocolate, great coffees and lattes.Quiet and classy atmosphere. Patio and indoor seating. Good service. Definitely a unique coffee/chocolate shop.Highly recommend.
A French/Belgian themed chocolate store with a huge variety of different things to pick from such as hot chocolate to crepes to chocolate. They have a nice dining area in here too though it was on the more expensive side. A nice alternative to Starbucks in the middle of the city.
I highly recommend the triple hot chocolate. Its really😋... Kelsey & Shelby know how to make it very delicious 👍🏻
Nice drinks and chocolates. Ambiance is also pleasant. During summer theres outdoor seating although traffic and noise on Chicago Ave makes it uninteresting. My only complaint about the place are the prices. A bit too high. Its river north though so youre kind of stuck with it.
It was the best coconut macaroon Ive had in a while, there were alt milk options for my hot chocolate - together was surprising $8. Sub par staff and service was what dampered my experince.
$$$$ chocolate was good. There are other locations that has better options and price.
Id give it zero. Theres this little white boy that was rude to my friends for no apparent reason. Probably bored. Not worth coming in at all. So many better places in the city of Chicago! Where people arent rude. Everything seems out dated too, and its expensive.
Hmm my experience at Zaharakos & Ghirardelli is better.
Food and chocolate beverages were great. But with one employee running the show. It took over an hour to receive breakfast.
Great hot chocolate
Great chocolate, plus you can help support the seahorses.
Cute, authentic French crepes, Belgian waffles and chocolates.
What can one say, the chocolates are to die for! A wide variety of chocolate bonbons can be combined in gift boxes of various sizes for that very special present that is both elegant and delicious. The shop has a few small tables inside and, weather oermitting, also street side tables. The hot chocolate is, of course, divine and perfect for a warwarm-up on a freezing Chicago winter day. The shop also offers some baked goods. When we were there in the late afternoon the cakes had been sitting out for hours and were unfortunately dried out (hence only 4 stars), but were still delicious.I highly recommended this sweet shop as a perfect place of indulgence to every chocolate lover.
Their hot chocolate taste soo good. Theyre definitely a chocolate store
Best hot chocolate!!
Perfect place for chocolate lovers. But Coffe can be better, stuff should learn how to make real espresso drinks
Delicious dark chocolate hot cocoa. I had to go back the next day
Coffee is really nice and barista (guy) very positive person. But ... They served me coffee with glued peace of porcelain like it was broken before. I ordered chocolate eclair but I never got it. Yep, maybe its kind of misunderstanding because of my not very good English skills at listening, but why if I ordered latte and eclair not gonna get it? Also I hate aggressive pay marketing. Once u pay they turn display to you to make a choice how much tips u wanna left. Id love to leave tips, but only by.my choice, not by force. So, I left with expensive 11 bucks latte. And nece ever gonna come back again.
Decadently wonderful. Magnifique!
This place has good (albeit expensive) chocolate truffles to eat. My fiancé and I often stop in when were downtown for some delicious hot chocolate. Only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because it is small and fairly expensive.
I was here for the first time and tried Salted Caramel hot chocolate. It was so delicious and perfect for this cold Chicago weather!
Great chocolate place, but actually also a little secret for lunch (savoury crepes, quiches). My favourite though is the dark hot chocolate with two shots of espresso no cream!!
Only known for chocolates otherwise cupcakes are horrible (should not be available for purchase). I actually thought they had made a mistake with the ingredients and notified staff who did not seem to mind.
I used to love coming here for a cocoa and chocolate but these past few months have not been stellar. For over four years Id pop in and come here for cocoa and pleasing conversation but unfortunately this place is constantly hiring new people so my favorite staff members have long gone namely Mario who always had a kind word to say. Today I came in feeling pretty good and I was craving a hot chai and eclair so the guy in charge today told me the eclairs were available but not properly thawed out even though I got here at 6:39 PM. He was the only server here and the chai was excellent but my eclair was pretty frozen from the inside after I took a bite and the server took it from me realized I had taken a single bite and told me he could not place it in the oven now due to health regulations. After 4 years of eating here not one person mentioned that they had a points program or loyalty program. I must have visited three or more times a month and no one mentioned the rewards to me till I inquired 7 months ago. One server explained they are encouraged by the owner never to volunteer that information to customers so after 4 years of my loyalty and not knowing about loyalty points then being served a frozen eclair by a non apologetic and smug server Ill happily stop encouraging my clients to come here and I think Ill find another place to relax. If you take into consideration that these young servers also enjoy gossiping about customers behind behind their backs...like this one girl named Maeve whom I overheard while drinking my cocoa here then youre going to want to get chocolate to go not stay here. This place isnt friendly anymore nor is it welcoming and I was completely disrespected after being served as frozen eclair. If the owner cares maybe shell consider refunding me for the eclair tonight but tonight prompted me to write a review especially since a server this past summer complained to me that business here was slow. Its slow because they mistreat customers here and I definitely feel awkward now so I really dont feel compelled to return to this location downtown. If you want to purchase chocolates as a gift this place is adequate but customer service here is lacking and unfriendly most of the time depending upon who works here on what day of the week. Im a die hard chocoholic but the ambiance here is lacking if they cant be bothered to reheat a frozen eclair.
If you saw the movie Chocolat and dreamed about experiencing that kind of chocolate, this is the place to do it.
Awesome Belgian cafe. We tried the chocolate crepe and a couple of the croissant sandwiches, all were outstanding.
Best coffee in town served in a real cup and with a real terrace to enjoy Chicago outside
Lovely place. Crapes, omelets, croissants - delicious!
Great European style desserts and chocolates. Seating is very limited.
Slow service, the place was packed after lunch time. The chocolate is excellent, worth waiting for.
Great service and tasty sweets. Coffee was far superior to Starbucks.
Wonderful place.. no one wants to share theirFavorite find... but this place is worth letting ppl know about.. small coffee place vibe with a character and music that stands out... has chocolate which is always a +.. but most importantly adding to all the menu items it has the best crepes in the city mile radius i had so far and the crafted recipes are not bland a d devoted to nutella and banana only.. for me this is a major MAJOR thing... the crepe mix used to make them is just right and i tried nutella and the Eatally crepes and this is superior in and doesnt have an industrial consumer feel to it.. tastes superior... and ofcourse customer service is really pleasant....PS. Great coffee....Btw i dont like writing reviews ... 👌👍
Incredible service, and great chocolate!
Very nice staff. nice variety of chocolates & treats.
Loved that the owners are Asterix fans
Lovely coffee and dark hot chocolate.
Best chocolate in Chicago, friendly atmosphere and a myriad of clientele.
Ive loved Leonidas chocolates for a couple decades now and I was so ecstatic to find out that a shop opened in Chicago! Every time we would visit London, wed take a dozen boxes of Leonidas home with us. Or if someone was visiting from London, wed ask them to bring a few boxes with them. The chocolates from here are exquisite! My favorite kind has always been the Manon Cafe, which is white chocolate with a coffee buttercream inside topped with a hazelnut. I also like the Gianduja, which is rich almond/hazelnut praline covered in gold wrapping. I opted to get only a few items when I visited yesterday since I was pretty much chocolated-out from a chocolate tour that we just completed. However, theres no doubt Ill return for more!Leonidas also offers marzipan, macaroons, and gelato in addition to their chocolates. Ill probably try these too sometime in the near future.
First time. Refered from a friend. Coming back soon many times. I tried the chocolote ice cream, eclairs, and mille feuille(best ever). They are all great, rich in flavor.I love this place
Very good Belgian chocolates. A bit pricey.
The best croissants in the city!
Belgian chocolates what else can I say
The hot chocolate here is stellar!
Crepes are delicious.
Best Hot chocolate in Chicago!
Good stuff...too many yuppies though
Great coffee & crepes!
Very good chocolate items here.
