My favorite cafe in the Lincoln Park area. Plenty of seats indoors and outdoors, but the patio is what I enjoy the most. There are a variety of seats inside where some people play chess, read, study, or whatever. I havent gotten the food yet, just the coffee, but it seems like their food is super popular. I always get the 24 ounce slow drip cold brew, which is $3.50.
The Bourgeois Pig is a quant little cafe. It’s giving me historic, vintage vibes with the old brick covered in vines and homely early 20th century decor.I got the Great Gatsby panini. Creamy, salty (but not too salty), and perfect for nursing my hangover. It’s a hearty lunch for roughly $12. Comes with chips.
My favorite lunch spot in Chicago!! It’s such a cozy and quaint spot, and they have the very best sandwiches, coffee, and treats! I love the ambiance and the outdoor seating with the small fire pit makes it even better! Sometimes they even have s’mores to roast over the fire! It’s the perfect spot for a date, by yourself, with you best friend, or your pet because it’s dog friendly too!! Definitely recommend to everyone!!
Patios beautiful, cozy interior, great place to spend a day working on projects. My go to spot. Looking forward to trying their speakeasy upstairs when it reopens.
An AMAZING experience! Extremely welcoming and caring staff. Food is delicious and fresh. The coffee is excellent, high quality.Thank you guys, GREAT job!
In a life filled with coffee shops, I can say for certain that this is unequivocally the most fantastic coffee shop I have ever encountered. The delightful food is an added bonus. If you want coffee and sandwiches produced by some well-oiled machine, for the love of god go to Starbucks. (There are plenty in the neighborhood.) If you want to live your life well, come to the Bourgeois Pig Café.
Nice atmosphere to chill out. Genuinely the worst cup of coffee I’ve ever had however. The espresso tasted watery and very weak while the milk was burnt.
Been going to this place for a really long time now. Im not a regular but its always a good spot to clear my mind. I love the wood aesthetic of it. It makes you feel productive somehow. I also really love the outdoor seating. I recently spent a few hours there next to the bonfire they have outside. Love the smell of burning wood, so my experience ended up being so much better than expected. Highly recommend.
Owner encourages transphobia and homophobia. Staff isn’t properly trained in regards to the extremely extensive difficult menu that proves to have inconclusive results every time. Great place to study tho! Probably why their still in business.
A intimate coffee shop with character. The trend of okd houses or apartment s with multiple rooms and a little funky. Has good coffee, pastries and lite food. These places are special for a couple of hours working or reading and just relaxing. Indoor and outdoor seating. The patio will be nice when the weather turns
Still to date, one of my favorite places in the city. Im a regular of Piggy and love it.
Good coffee, kind of dirty and old even though that was the vibe. Smelled strongly of meat inside. Casual service
Good coffee + good sandwiches.. can’t ask for a better combo when you need to get work done! They have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating too.
I loved the views to people watch and the coffee was really good. However, we waited 45 minutes for a very simple egg “panini” and a breakfast bowl. When 5 people behind us got their order ahead of us, we were told that people were ahead of our order which made no sense to us.The food was just okay- not entirely worth the money. The egg panini was soft and didn’t seem like it was toasted at all. It wasn’t really worth the wait /:I hope this place can hire more people because it has a lot of potential. It’s a good place to hang out and drink coffee- just go when it’s slow.
The staff was very friendly and helpful to finding the right panini for my dietary needs. It took a second for them to take my order because of switching over the drawers, but I’ve worked in food service before and was more than happy to wait!I liked the veggie selection on the Veggie Panini— though the focaccia was soggy :/ (seen in photo). I would’ve liked more of a “crunch” when eating it. I think the panini press may have pressed more liquid into the bread from the veggies than expected. Other than the bread, I liked the savory taste and variety of sandwiches they had. I’ll definitely be coming back to try the drinks!I read some comments on here about it not being trans-friendly and, as a trans person, treaded with caution. However, I wasn’t gendered at all, which was lovely! Happy to know this experience with their staff included gender-neutral language. It’s a tough world out there for trans folks, and so this was reassuring. Can’t wait to return!
Really cute place. But its really not setup for anyone looking to work remotely. Internet service wasnt set up to handle anyone who has to use a VPN. Youll have to use a phone Hotspot. Ill be back, but probably not during the week.
Great atmosphere from having a cozy conversation to needing a place to buckle down and get to work! Love love love this place, highly recommended!!
I got a salad, and hands down it was one of the best I have ever had, for the price range... Definitely will go back
Amazing place, I love their sandwiches 🥪 they are delicious, not comparable to any other places. Coffee is affordable and better than a Starbucks for sure. I love Italian coffee and coffee here the same quality!
Dank sandwiches. My fav is the great gatsby
Amazing sandwiches and coffee. I had the chai tea latte and it was heavenly!!
As I am writing this review now, I am still waiting for my sandwich. I decided to go home, take a nap, do some dishes and vacuum my house. I will let you know how the sandwich is once I get it.
Ever since I found this place I’ve been coming at least 3 times a week for either coffee or their breakfast burrito. I would recommend it to anyone. Favorite place!!
We ordered two sandwiches and it took over an hour to make them. The staff was really rude and didn’t even apologize but instead told us that everyone is waiting.
So disappointed! I always pass by and have been meaning to try it. The coffee was bitter and not fully hot. We ordered a sandwhich and a scrambled egg bowl. It took over 40 minutes and it was not busy! Plus we saw our food was sitting in a counter for who knows how long before we realized it. The food was bland. I didnt even try the potatoes because they looked dry, cold and nasty. We didnt have a good experience at all.
How to implode the process of getting a sandwich. Nobody knows where to go, menu is next to register so you dont see it until its time to order, then you go off to whatever table while the staff meanders around the shop yelling names like a lost puppy.40 minutes for a breakfast sandwich. Have to walk up and wait in line again to ask for a cup of water that never arrives. No napkins or cutlery when the food arrives. Nowhere to put dishes but you hear the staff meowing that patrons left it on the table.Wanted to gouge my eyes out.
Cool place and friendly staff but unfortunately terrible food...
Really good coffee and an overall chill place to hang out.
The food is fantastic but the service is terribly slow. order ahead if youre in any kind of rush
They have the BEST sandwiches! So many options to satisfy any craving 🥰
Always a treat to go here. I wish things resume to normalcy at the cafe soon enough
I love Bourgeois Pig for many reasons! First up, the owner, Mason is so nice and friendly. He really goes out of his way to make you happy! The gourmet sandwiches are out of this world! They totally redefine what a good sandwich is all about! I personally love the ambiance and if I didnt know any better, I would think I was at cafe in Europe. Please go and enjoy every second of your experience! Its an awesome place to hang alone or with friends! Cheers! Cherie
I want to leave a more positive review because the food & drinks are always good. The service here is just hard to believe. I live around the block and have gone dozens of times. It takes 20-30 minutes to make a simple salad. Occasionally, Ive tried ordering online and they never have the food ready. To boot, theyre hardly apologetic about it. I wish they could just show a little decency & desire to make things right.
They have every tea imaginable. Their pastries are great especially the in-house ones. Try the banana chocolate bread or the pumpkin chocolate bread if they havent run out of it. Their food is great too. On the weekends, there are wood fires in the fire pit and the chiminea. They have afternoon sun and one table is protected from rain. Youre missing something in your life if youve just walked by this place and not stopped in!
Great, cozy atmosphere, delicious desserts made there and great coffee
Nice relaxed atmosphere, the workers are attentive and charming. Love it here.
The BEST neighborhood coffee shop ever. The owner Mason is so kind and welcoming, the homemade chai is to die for, Mason’s fresh baked scones are always changing and so yummy, and the sandwiches are bomb. Such a great atmosphere and work/meeting space too! I love the vintage decor and homeliness. If you’re in Lincoln Park, definitely stop in for a cappuccino and some good banter. Oh, by the way, the brownies, cakes, and pies are to die for.
Ive loved this place for a while now! Its homey, delicious, full of friendly people, and is great overall. Very unique compared to most shops, and the seating inside is amazing normally! During COVID theyre doing a great job of staying safe and clean, offering take-out, and keeping everything just as delicious as ever. Highly recommend!
Lots of good memories here. Good coffee and great sandwiches. Mason is awesome. I need to make it back to Chicago and visit.
All of our food was delicious, and the ruben (Catcher in the Rye) and italian sandwiches were the best weve ever had! The service was impeccable, and we enjoyed their patio seating with a warm fire pit.
Cutest little coffee shop/cafe if Lincoln Park! Outdoor patio is a great date setting. Reminds me of being in a little French cafe in Paris.
The tea selection Is extensive, the coffee selection is extensive and quality, and the food selection is extensive! I only drank the tea, the “tippy” estate tea. The outdoor area had impeccable WiFi and beautiful greenery. The inside was cozy and antique, a unique vibe for a coffee/sandwich shop.
I wish I liked this restaurant, as it is a cozy environment and a perfect place to read a book or knock out some work. As youll see in different reviews and photos, it is very inconsistent. While I have enjoyed their sandwiches, I cannot recommend this restaurant, as the meals have missed key ingredients, arent fully toasted, or have other quality issues. In addition, the coffee is very gritty tasting, and is not comparable to the numerous local shops nearby.
Wonderful ambiance :) The Hamlet is so good, bread is 10/10
Great de paul place cool building great staff
Called in a large order for a picnic birthday gathering. Order taker was wonderful. Order was correct & food amazing.
Such a lovely place! You can choose number of espresso shots in your coffee, which is sooo cool! And great variety of teas 😍
The Pig has the best M&M choco chip cookies in the city and an even better menu of sandwiches. There’s no place like it.
Awesome study space and great coffee and pastries! Any food on the menu is also a hit. One of my favorite spots to study at in college or to catch up with friends
Very cool cafe! The restaurant decore is full of antiques everywhere. Its like going back in time!
This hidden gem is the real deal. Excellent food in a quirky vintage atmosphere reminiscent of a place you might find in Oxford, England. Nice front patio in the summer too. Favorite sandwich is the Pilgrims Progress, they have an amazing loose-leaf tea selection and the salads are just perfect. We all should do our part to support these few remaining authentic local spots and keep them alive. A great spot for quiet conversations and getting through a novel.
The puns and references to literature are what caught my attention, but the taste and homey experience is what caught my heart. New favorite local coffee shop to go to.
Its ultimately a very chill place, a great spot to study or just hang out. The service is great and the baked goods are good. Its very comfortable and I really appreciate the genuinely vintage interior (this place was relatively an old manor).
Love the food and the ambience!
Best cafe around, always return to this place. Love the homey/old school vibe of all the relics and photos of Chicago. The food is great too, spacious and perfect for studying
Cute decor, awesome name, friendly service, and caffeine!!! Perfect on your way to DePaul’s art museum!
The Hamlet is probably my favorite sandwich in the city.
Imagine a visit to your grandmas house. Now imagine that your grandma has a million different kinds of tea that ISNT as old as your parents, and quiet, cozy places to read, write, hang out, or study. My only wish is that it turned into a bar at night instead of closing, because this is one of my favorite spots in the whole city.
As an English major, this is one of my favorite coffee shops to visit. The name of their food options are a great collection of puns and definitely worth visiting again 😁
Waited 40 min for paninis that we’re gonna cost me $24 dollars. The owner doesn’t seem to care for his employees or customers. I would not recommend this place!
Awesome cafe-probably my favorite vibe out of all the Chicago cafes I’ve been to! Amazing sandwiches-the Pilgrim’s Progress is a standout. Coffee is good, I’ve had mixed experiences on the lattes, but the staff are great and the aesthetic is awesome. Not everyone knows you can sit upstairs-a great place for quieter study or conversation.
My favorite place in the city!! You couldn’t go wrong with anything here but my go to is some tea from their tea wall in the winter, and either an iced chai or a pomegranate italian soda in the summer, with the I am the Cheese sandwich if I’m craving savory and the red velvet cake or apple pie if craving sweet! The food is best shared over conversation with a friend.
Really cool little cafe in Lincoln Park. The staff is really friendly and helpful with any questions I had. The food is pretty reasonably priced and tastes amazing, Ive gone here 3 times and gotten 3 different sandwiches and I was blown away by all of them. They also have a really cool craft soda collection thats interesting to try. Atmosphere is super cute and it feels like a real wholesome place. Definitely recommend this if youre in the area.
Service is great in this small and cozy café!
My friends and I go here about once a week. It’s a great place for homework and the vibes are soooooo nice. The baristas are always EXTREMELY pleasant, and the coffee is incredibly.
Horrible experience. Owner was very rude to us when we explained we have been waiting for over 40 minutes for two sandwiches. If you know you get busy why do you have one cook!?
Trying to support local. Ordered my coffee online ahead of time. Have been waiting inside now for 20 minutes. No one has even come to the cash register to say anything but we can see them walking around in the kitchen.
This is a cozy little cafe with a friendly staff! Serves hot or iced drinks, local bakery and sandwiches! Great to meet with friends, get some computer work/studying done or even to have a work meeting. Very vintage and homely feel. 10/10
I love this place. It feels like a hidden gem. We come here all the time to just relax and get a cup of tea/coffee. Theres lots of tables and seating to relax or to bring your laptop and do some work. They also have great food. Ive had the breakfast bowl, which was awesome, and all of the sandwiches that Ive tried have been great. I absolutely recommend this place. Just dont tell too many people so that it gets too crowded.
Great little coffee shop. Came across it walking towards the park. Staff were very friendly and suggested places to see nearby. Nice coffee and a delicious chocolate chip muffin.
Quaint little sandwich shop. Delicious!
A MUST GO TO in Lincoln Park. I was supposed to go on a date here and got stood up - HA! I ordered anyway and enjoyed the nice quiet Sunday afternoon feeling. The food (I ordered the breakfast scramble..) is so hearty and packed. I got full very quickly but it was well worth it.
This place is a gem of the neighborhood. Its chill, easy place to work, get coffee, and some food. Well located, and interesting. Theres a space for different moods and helps you get in to whatever youre working on. Great for hanging out with friends too.
So hard to find a quiet café like this one in Chicago! I like the nice vintage decor and the laid-back music, which make me feel super relaxed. Good selection of teas.
I went here three times in one weekend I love this place so much. Its a nice quiet, warm, and cozy place to read, to study, or to just have some quiet time. I get their Jamaican Latte and it is UNREAL! Their quiches are also to die for!
So nice. Chill vibes, nice front patio and good coffee. I hear theyll be adding a speakeasy too 😯
Cool funky little cafe with great sandwiches. Quiet and feels very cozy. The kind of place you could hang for a while. Lots of good vegetarian options. Try the Jamaican latte for a more unique coffee option - its a honey and allspice latte. Prices do run a little high, but expected with the location
Found this place in Lincoln Park near Depaul U. and just popped in to check it out and Ive been back almost every day. It is so interesting and is like being in the year 1800. The grilled sandwiches I get are amazingly tasty and the price is perfect for the portions you get, but I still havent tried any coffee drinks. They are doing some remodeling and one of the servers told me they are expanding to offer a wine bar and a speakeasy so dont be turned off by the construction or other things going on upstairs or downstairs. If you go at peak times of the day expect it to be busy and you will have to wait. I usually go after 2pm to avoid the lunch crowd. Great place to get a pretty healthy and tasty lunch or snack
I was in Chicago visiting a friend and she suggested we meet up here--Im glad she did! The shop is super cute and the menu had so many great choices. I chatted with the barista for a bit and she was so nice and welcoming! Be sure to check out the seating area in the adjacent/built-on area...its super cute and quaint! Seemed like an awesome place to do some work on a laptop or catch up with a friend. I will definitely be making a stop next time Im in Lincoln Park!
One of my favorites! Delightfully hodgepodge/historical interior and an excellent place to get some studying done. Espresso & coffees are superb as well; baristas welcoming and friendly.
The service is good and their coffee os so great! I had an amazing cappuccino today. They also have good food
Super cute coffee shop and perfect to get some work done. The coffee here is amazinnng. I got the cafe miel which adds cinnamon on top. My favorite on the menu so far!
Amazing restaurant. I like the style. Good service from the stuff. Comeback soon
Great cafe in the Lincoln Park area. Really close to DePaul university so you’ll see a lot of people studying here. It’s not really the best for socializing because the students will give you weird looks while they’re trying to study. The coffee is not the best in the area but the place itself is cool.
Fantastic sandwiches! The rest of the menu looks great as well. Will definitely be back.
A perfect neighborhood gem. Love the mouth-watering food, vintage & cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and reasonable price. Will definitely visit again and again.
