Good selection with trades well organized but the service could have been better. Im visiting from out of town and not sure how the store organizes the recent older issues. Asked for help and was told if we dont have it on the shelf then its not here. No direction or checking database to be sure. Would have bought more but I was more good to take my business elsewhere since it was too much trouble.

Love this spot. One of my favorite places to buy comics and my absolute favorite place to buy trade backs. Amazing deals and even better vibes. I’ve never left Dark Tower without having a great conversation and some great new reads. The owner is kind and fair with a great sense of humor and an even greater dog. This place is a must for any comic lover or even someone just trying to get into the medium.

This shop rocks!Ive had been to a few shops but Dark Tower easily has the best deals in the city. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Ive had good convos on stories, comics, video games, and movies. Even better are when the workers bring their dogs in. Mark has the most interesting playlist going when hes working. Should I ever move away from the shop Ill still stay loyal.

I cant even explain how perfect this place feels. Its like the iconic shops you see in the movies. Theyve truly got it all and if not, they try. Ive got to drive 45min to get here but its truly worth it.

I was able to start my comic book collection by getting my first comic book box here. Every time my boyfriend and I visit he has the biggest smile on his face and that makes my heart smile. He and the owner get along really well. It’s like a second home to him, we will always be going there. Great selection & service.

My husband is a collector of transformers and other types of comic books and action figures. owner is exceptional and honest. One of the best dealers of comics and collectibles. And my husband has been to most comic book dealers in the area including quake down the road from him. Quake is good but is not as fair with his prices . If this is your thing I highly recommend visiting this place first. He buys and sells and is an honest dealer of comics.Added comments 2/6/21. My husband collects transformers and was very impressed with not only the awesome selection ( life sized joker was awesome) but owner is genuine, honest and an absolute pleasure. When the competition will over charge and under pay he does good business and not trying to take advantage he is THE best comics dealer and collectibles in all of Chicago land. I can’t impress how good of a business owner he is and how fair and honest he is. My husband has been to most of not all collectibles dealers in area and he is the best of the best. Per my husband we highly recommend checking this store out. It is well worth it.

This place a great choice if youre looking for backstocks they have a ton!! Theres a good amount of graphic novels, but you really go for the backstock.

Several months ago I call the store and spoke to Mark. I had a discontinued complete comic book series from the 1980s and early 1990s, that included doubles of many issues, that had some value. I asked Mark if he was interested in buying the set and he said no thanks. I did not want to just toss it in the trash since I knew people did collect it so I offered it to Mark for free. He said he would not take it for free, but would sell it on consignment for me. I dropped the books off a few days later and Mark sold them all over the next few months. Mark figured out what I was owed and paid me over $250. Mark could have easily just taken the comics for free and kept all the money for himself, and who could blame him during this terrible time for small businesses. Mark is honest and put in the effort to find someone to buy my more obscure comic books, thanks Mark! I highly recommend Dark Tower Comics

Great comic shop with very friendly staff! Always willing to help with whatever weird, niche request you might have. We do a comedy show here every Friday (doors at 7:30pm, show starts at 8:00pm). It features some of Chicagos best up-and-coming stand-up comedians, plus free beer compliments of Half Acre (21+)!

The guy charged me $20 for Batman Zero Point comic that should have only cost me $4.99. I went to two other comic books stores in the area and got the the same book for face value $4.99. I definitely will not be going back there and dont recommend anyone shopping there

Great local comic shop. Have had my subscription here about and love it. Always good conversation with the owner and they take the pandemic seriously. They have one of the largest well stocked selections of trade paperbacks you could imagine.

Cant believe its taken me so long to do a review for Dark Tower (sorry, guys). Hands down the best comic shop in the city. Not only is the owner and every employee an absolutely awesome person, but the selection is fantastic.Hope you like receiving a friendly greeting plus curated help and suggestions from a dog. Youll definitely find everything youre looking for and then some, so expect to be here a while just looking. Always running family-friendly events throughout the month, easily becoming that gateway youve probably been looking for to get your kids into your hobby.

We were other there with my family. Everybody’s into comic books. The selection at this store is impressive and the staff is very knowledgeable. They also have a few seats where you can turn the page of a prospective buy. We had a great time there, everybody came out with a few books under his or her arm. I like the big guy behind the counter, he knows his stuff.

While I was in the store it started pouring down, and he even gave me an umbrella. Service was awesome. Go check em out.

Awesome selection. Owner very knowledgable about DC movies. Great pull service keeps me up-to-date. The staff has a good sense of what I like to read and makes great recommendations. I could not find the much-lauded refreshment bar.

Great store. Great, fun, opinionated staff who are funny, inclusive, and who love comics. Over the past four years, it has become my real life version of the tv show Cheers, a place to go to laugh and vent and converse and argue and belong. Oh, and the comics are great, too-- good selection and willing to order books and back issues (if you arent a JERK about it), and the staff give good recommendations based on what you read. Wet Cash Comedy is a fun concept and paid for my cab home, but emcees can be downright rude (surprise?) if you so much as open your mouth. But its free cover and free refreshments, so I got over it. Performers fair to middling. The comic store is awesome if you are a fan.

Best store in the City. Amazing selection, helpful staff, and very well organized. Good discounts for pull service members, anyone who buys trades, and everyone gets free bags and boards. The drive is a little out of my way, but its worth it.

Theres a huge selection of the major publishers trades as well as new single issues, and the owner is super helpful and knowledgable. Theres a good mix of collectables and table game supplies as well, and you can order your comics and trades for pick up.

This is the spot, plain and simple. Only shop I know of that includes a free bag-n-board with each new book. Great staff, too. I look forward to every Wednesday!

The place has a very large selection of one dollar back issues which are quite delightful to check out. I also purchased back issues for cover price for some hard to get copies of Spiderman so I was very impressed with that as well. The place has a great decor, plenty of comics old and new, along with graphic novels, toys, and everything a fan of the comic arts would need.

Ive been going to Dark Tower since they opened and Mark treats me like part of the family there anything Im looking for Mark always finds for me very helpful and I love Mark mothers karmels that she makes homemade and cookies homemade theyre delicious

My go-to place on the northwest side. The guys who work there are cool, the people who shop there are cool, and they have a pretty huge/always changing selection of old and new comics. I stopped in the other day and everything happened to be 40% off, gotta love that too.

The owner is intimidating at first, but warms up to you and is knowledgeable. there is a boxer (dog) as well - hes nice and friendly. there is a nice selection of variant comics. back issues are limited. the place is organized. various vinyl toys, statues and clothing.

Great place for tpb and weekly issues. Staff is nice and theres a reasonable amount of statues and collectibles.Things of note-There IS a $10 min if paying by card.-There is a tpb club. If youre planning on going frequently, ask about it.-Sometimes, if youre lucky, theres a dog here. He seems cool and he looks like he wants pets.

Went in to check it out and hadnt been in the area since they expanded in November. The guys behind the desk started mocking me for not knowing about it and gave me a sarcastic thanks for being a loyal customer. I felt that was a bit unnecessary. Aside from that, they have a solid selection of comics and their collectibles are on the limited side, but definitely more than there were before. I purchased some things and will go back again, hopefully the rudeness was a one time thing.

My favorite comic book store in the city! Seriously, everything you could want, and everything you didnt know you wanted. The owner and staff are great, helpful and friendly and can help with whatever you need or need ordered. Any books you get are bagged and boarded for free too, a super nice touch! They are my goto. Also a great Heroclix gaming spot with a really friendly and smart group of gamers. If you ever want to learn one of the best table top/comic based/tactical and fun games out there, stop in on a Saturday afternoon while we play and ask away! Im addicted to comics and Heroclix so this is basically my one stop shop to feed my addictions. Comics, graphic novels, collectibles, Heroclix, storage boxes, action figures, you name it, its there. Check it out!

Leagues nicer than the comic shop literally down the street. Well lit and with a decent selection, but the employee (owner?) was about as hands-off as possible while I was in the store. Having worked in a comic shop, I know that some folks prefer this, but it also makes a store feel pretty sterile and unwelcoming.That said, I still have yet to find a shop in Chicago that compares to Chicago Comics. Theyre worth taking the CTA into Lakeview once a week for the variety and customer service they provide, but if youre in a rush or youre looking for a particular back issue youve had trouble finding, Dark Tower isnt a bad choice.
