Liked their pineapple Mexican sweet bread. But their champurrado was Not good. They also forgot to make my oder. After several people came in, placed their orders and received their orders, I asked the cashier for my order, she said they were sorry, and gave me a piece of old cake which I threw away.A few days later (yesterday) I went back, and I ordered coffee, mind you theres about 5 people working there and when I get my coffee its cold, five people for such a small place and your coffees cold.

The pastries are decent but a bit over priced its not a traditional mexican bakery its more of a chain type of cafe. The champurrado was terrible tasted like pure cinamon im not sure what that was it had a super slimmy cinamon taste. They put powder in a container and mix it its not real champurado. No masa just fake champurado. Disapointed

Very disappointed in the way Monorca is cutting back on products. No whip cream available at multiple stores for hot chocolates. Barely any fruits in the cakes, only tiny slivers of fruit in the middle filling. No salsas available when request it.

Horrible experience. First they couldnt find the order that was placed a week in advance. Second they didnt have the cakes specifically ordered; and was tried to be pawned off with some frozen cakes. Then, they didnt decorate as specified and paid for... I really wanted to like this place but after this experience, I will be going elsewhere. No bueno!

I’ve changed my mind about this place... I use to think it was really mediocre but now I have seen some serious change! The atmosphere down to the employees attitudes have improved greatly! The pastries and coffee are very good. I had a cheese croissant and ham/cheese Sammy and both were delicious. I also bought a bag of Cafe de la Olla to take home. No sweetner needed. The coffee already comes with cinnamon and sugar in the mix. All you need to do is Brew it. The staff was warm and friendly. Will definitely go back

This is a Mexican-themed pastry and bakery shop in Santa Monica. The interior of the place is pretty nice and rustic. I have never run into an issue of not being able to find a seat inside or out. The best part of this place is the pastries and the food as a non-coffee drinker. I had the quiche ranchero featuring ham, egg, and peppers and it felt as if I swallowed that thing whole because it was so good. Parking is a bit of a pain since its Santa Monica and everything is paid street parking which can be annoying. There is parking behind the cafe but its only about five spots so it takes a little bit of luck. The servers are really nice and friendly. If you dont mind listening to Spanish songs, its a good cafe to spend a few hours and get some work done.

This bakery should be at the top of LAs Best Cakes list (if there is such). After a fall of flavor with my go to cake place, and keeping with goal of becoming a more aware and sustainable consumer, I came across La Monarca Bakery.La Monarca Bakery has teamed with Ecolife Foundation focusing on protecting the endangered Monarch butterflies of Mexico. With such worthy sustainable mission, I drove to the Commerce location in search of a cake. The bakery is located in a shopping strip that features a Target and El Super market; therefore, depending on the time that you go, parking can be seen a little daunting. To be sure; driving east on Whittier enter the parking lot at the east-most end of the shopping strip - that is where the bakery is at anyway and also there is less in/out traffic.Once you enter the bakery, you will feel at ease. The bakery has some sort of calming effect; perhaps all the deliciousnesses that are on display. The attendant was quick to offer me assistance. She was also not bothered by the many questions I had about cake flavors and prices. What was even better and perhaps should be part of EVERY bakery in existence, is the offering of samples of cakes they have for sale. The attendant let me sample all of the cakes but feeling a bit guilty, I just sampled three of the six flavors. After much debate and contemplation of leaving with three cakes instead of the one, I chose the traditional strawberry shortcake. And, how do you know it was a hit? There were no leftovers.
