In all aspects, this store deserves a 5-star rating. The selection is unmatched - they always have what I need, in stock. Even the hard-to-find items are somehow always somewhere on the shelves when I ask. The store is very clean and organized. Parking is never an issue and its nice supporting a local small business in the Design District. The staff is simply the best. Its a finely-tuned family business and it shows. Eugene sold me a teleconverter at a competitive price; it was delivered by courier the VERY NEXT DAY...no longer any perceived need to get this stuff from major retailers in NYC; he also advised me about the manufacturers firmware updates that had to be made to the lenses and camera bodies for this all to work. its all done and all works. My Nikon D7200 didnt seem to be taking photos as well as I hoped. I found Competitive Cameras with tons of good reviews, and now I know why.I was impressed first with the steady stream of professional photographers in and out of the shop in the short time I was there. The service guys were straight business, got to the point quickly.When I picked my camera up, they explained, gently, that everything with my equipment was functionally fine, but that my lenses were sub level to my cameras capabilities. They made recommendations, changed some settings for me, and I was out the door with a clear understanding of the issues and how to remedy them.The price on the lens they recommended was in line with lots of other stores I later checked. I would think their prices overall are appropriate, and they seemed to have just about everything in stock.Theyve earned my future business for probably everything camera related.

On a recent trip from Houston to Oklahoma, I decided on a whim that I needed a new lens and I needed it now. While the wife drove, I did a quick google search and quickly found Competitive Cameras. As fast as I could I dialed their number and explained my situation to a gentleman by the name of Ramsey. We were still about an hour, or so out from the store and our eta had us arriving about 5-10 minutes after they closed. Ramsey stated that if we could make it within that timeframe, he would gladly keep the store open for us. True to his word, he did. I am fairly new to the camera world, but even so this is by far the best customer service I have ever received. Ive been coming here for a couple of years now, after coming in to buy the camera I thought I needed, but the owner listened to my requirements and recommended a much cheaper model that does everything I needed, and more. Each time my business partner and I visit this camera store we are always treated with great customer service. They also have great deals on all your video and photography equipment needs. We are constantly upgrading and purchasing new equipment and this has over the previous month become our favorite place to shop.

They can sometimes come off as know it all wise cracks, but theyre actually a really cool group of guys that seem to enjoy helping their customers. Im very glad to have a camera place for things like repairs and new cameras or gear, and their seamless background options are at a significant savings when compared to ordering from online retailers. Im a regular customer here ever since I heard about them.

Sad to say this place has poor business practices and potentially con artists. There were two large format photography papers that did not have a price on them (this shouldve been the first red flag) so I went over to the counter to ask the price and one was really high (He said about one hundred seventy something) which I slightly expected for this paper and another one which was a lot cheaper than I expected (about seventy something dollars) and after he told me the price I said Oh! I thought it was gonna be around $100 And he jokingly said $100 and we had a chuckle. I asked what all three together would be and he calculated it out, and said he gave me a break on it and BRIEFLY showed me the total. Turns out he changed the prices but didnt really change the overall price just to make it seem like he gave me a deal to gain my favor of this store. He brought the higher priced paper down to $169.95 and bumped up the cheaper paper to $80.00. Lemme say, before this stunt, the store already had my favor, but I dont appreciate the facade of generosity.

Eugene and Scott are alway willing to help and answer questions. They have sold me most of my equipment. My 6500, the sigma lens that goes on it. My Zeiss 85, (my other 2 lens came or the web) just this morning, I was able to be the first person in the entire state of Texas to own the new A7Riii. I could not have done it without them. They are my go to place for my photography needs.

I returned the equipment a day late, and they charged me the same price for three days.The sales representative(might be the owner) was very rude in person and on the phone. I drop thousands a year on equipment and one simple positive transaction could have resulted in more business. The representative was dismissive, seemingly annoyed with my questions and eager to get done with the transaction.Also, they reached out and asked me to change my review, claiming that I didn’t understand the term of the rental. I picked up the equipment on Saturday and was asked to return it by Monday at noon for $27. I wasn’t able to return the equipment by noon on Monday because of all the chaos surrounding the virus. I replaced the equipment Tuesday and was charged double(additional $27).Perhaps I did misunderstand the rental terms and was under the impression that I was renting the equipment for three days(Saturday - Monday), but that doesn’t change the behavior of the staff. Also, I found it super aggressive that they took the time to figure out who wrote the review, go to my business website, send an inquiry asking me to change my review. It’s just not a good vibe. I’ll take my future business elsewhere.

I will give Competitive Cameras this. They have a massive selection, and you can probably find what you need. But for some items, they quoted me prices that were higher than whats on the manufacturers website to buy directly. If you dont mind buying through Amazon or B&H, you can save almost literally half on some items. Not similar items. The exact same, brand new in the box item. When I balked at the prices, the guy seemed to change his friendliness factor quickly. They want rich people willing to spend too much on everything for the ease of having it all in one store. They dont get my vote!

This is the best store for first camera (me) and for people who have the expensive cameras and lenses. We upgraded my husbands Canon and bought lenses. He is absolutely happy.They ask lots of questions about what type of pictures you want to take to fit you with the best camera while also keeping in mind your budget.You might say it is too far to drive, it is not for the quality of service and the knowledge of the people who own the store.

I am a 10-year photography veteran and have never experienced this kind of customer service in a camera store in my life, and it is the same every single time.I recently went in with a lens that was not connecting to my camera. After a quick glance at the lens while I was standing there, they determined the problem and saw it was a quick fix... and took care of it within minutes! They couldve easily just bagged it and put it in their service lineup, not informing me of what an easy fix it was, and having me pay for the full repair. Not only was I able to walk out with my repaired lens after thinking I would be without it for 7-10 days, but they did they not charge me for their time! If possible, I will never do business with another camera distributor because this level of customer service is unmatchable in my opinion!

I purchased a Canon 70D last year and the owner sold it to me for $100 less than what I could find on Amazon. Im sorry there is no way to give them 6 stars. Fantastic customer service. I explained my problem-going to the arctic in a few weeks to photograph polar bears. I needed a special impossible to get lens on short notice-they got it for me. Im knowledgeable about my photo needs so a quick online order is easy. But online cant give this kind of service so I will buy everything I can from competitive, because they are more than competitive, they are superb. And they have a large, large stock to boot and fun store to browse for all those little accessories that every photo bug just cant do without.

All three of my trips here so far have been great. Scott and Eugene we’re both extremely helpful and even sat and explained some thing to me that I had questions about. They easily could have given me a quick answer but they took the time to really help me learn and understand. All of the gear I have purchased and rented from here has been great- I haven’t had any issues. They will continue to get all of my camera business!

In my opinion, Competitive Cameras is the best place to buy photography equipment in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I have purchased my cameras, lenses, and related products from them for years and have enjoyed doing business with the owners who are knowledgeable, trustworthy, and personable. They know their products very well, and they know their customers by name. I appreciate that. I also appreciate that they will not sell you more than you need. They are in the business of establishing trusted relationships with their customers by selling quality products with honesty and integrity. This is a great company to buy from. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. I recently called them from my office in Plano about a lens. They said they had it in stock and would courier it to me. I was not in a rush, but in todays times of getting things the same day and overnight, it was refreshing they offered to deliver it to me at no charge. It was here in 2 hours! Great Service!
