My first experience owning a classic vehicle was with Gateway Classic at my service and I am truly disappointed. I was aware I was buying the vehicle AS IS Without Warranty, however, I was assured the seller must represent the vehicle honestly to Gateway and further that Gateway tests the vehicles and sells with the representation that their vehicles are in good working order as disclosed by the sellers. Well, the 1964 Ford F100 I purchased, not even a 100 miles in, the transmission has slipped. I only took this truck out 3 times. Twice for a short ride into town, and on the 3rd time for a nice Sunday drive 1 hour away on July 5th and that is when the transmission issue revealed itself. My transmission expert has informed me that the transmission has to be rebuilt. He further states that someone would have to have known about the transmission problem, this is not something that would have just happened, it would have been slipping for quite some time he says. So it’s only natural for us to assume the seller must have known about the problem, therefore, he misrepresented the vehicle when selling it through Gateway Classic Cars. In conclusion, BUYER BEWARE.Update: August 2020 - I spoke to Gateway Customer Service and they were not willing at all to help. I asked for their commission to be paid back to me to cover the cost of the transmission work. No they were not willing to do so.Update: October 2020 - Engine needs replacing and transmission redone. Its obvious the previous owner knew problems existed or were around the corner to soon reveal itself.
Gateway Classics Detroit was exceptional. Chelsea was knowledgeable, professional, and very interested in making sure I had all of the information on the car. This was one of the easiest buying experiences I have gone through. I really enjoyed the fact that the dealership was closed to the public and appointment based. This allowed me to not be distracted by tire kickers. I plan to buy more from Gateway.
Gateway Classic Cars Ive been on a website looking at your fine-looking chargers and roadrunners I am interested in buying a 1968 440 charger but Im waiting for the price to drop some any way to look at the website you wont go wrong
Very polite and professional at the beginning. After looking at a vehicle a couple times, ready to make an offer, my dad and I asked to come back and see the vehicle outdoors for full review. Wanted to hear it run warmed up too. That was accepted. We agreed to call on a certain day. No answer. Left many messages and had no return calls. We still don’t understand what happened but I wonder if it’s the best place to sell a vehicle. We gathered the cash and were gonna pull the trigger. To bad for us and the seller.
After finding my car at Gateway, I cant imagine buying a classic car from anywhere else. The customer service and staff knowledge is unparalleled. They made every effort to guarantee that my purchase was pristine bumper to bumper. Having bought in the past from private parties and dealers, I have to say that working with a consignment business like Gateway is just a better choice and with all of their showrooms around the country, they have a massive selection of only top shelf quality cars which are priced fairly. Start and end your search here!
I purchased a 1967 Plymouth Satellite from the Detroit showroom of Gateway Classic Cars and I wanted to tell you about my awesome buying experience. My sales representative was Chelsea K. and IMHO, she went well above and beyond what is expected from a sales person. I set up the deal over the phone and she had all of the paperwork ready to go when I showed up for the appointment. She was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the car I was purchasing and she even ran down some information for me a week after I towed the car half way across the country. That is the kind of service all dealerships should strive for!I will definitely purchase my next classic car from one of the Gateway showrooms.Thank you Gateway Classic Cars and keep striving for excellence
I purchased a 2007 BMW 335i and was told that the automobile was inspected and was mechanically sound. After I purchased and upon arriving home after a 3 hour drive and putting winter tires/rims on it I noticed 3 of 4 rims had cracks and one of the rims had a crack in a previous repair. I spoke with the agent who sold me the vehicle and also the customer service rep. and was told this was considered cosmetic damage and that I should have seen this in my inspection. Cracks in rims are a safety concern and can lead to blow outs and I would not have put this automobile in the category of mechanically sound. Both the sales agent and customer service advocate were polite and replied promptly.EDIT 3/9/21 - Have driven the car for a few months, fixed most of the minor issues and updating my rating to 3 stars. Wouldnt have taken much to get it to a 5 star rating.
Im a first-timer in the classic car world, not too mechanically inclined and really needed help getting started and comfortable in this new world. I got lucky and stumbled across Chelsea K., Floor Manager. 100% honesty and helpful even when I lost out on one of their cars. She continues to help me with the process. Nothing but great things to say!!
I was looking at a Black 66 Nova, was given all the information. Got all my questions answered promptly. My sales lady even called the seller on the questions she couldnt answer at the time. Offered to take extra pictures, went above and beyond. I was looking at two others, which turned out to be internet scams & slept on the one at Gateway. Called back a week later, it was sold! Its my own fault. But the experience was still great. I knew i should have just went with my gut and bought it. Dont let my mistakes be yours! They dont currently have what i want, but I am only going thru Gateway when I do find it. Shes the manager at the Detroit location. So if you ask for the manager, youll get the best.
These guys are to high priced and not interested in selling anything. Smh
We bought a 1976 Fj40 Landcruiser just a week ago!! We live in Tennessee so we purchased it over the phone which was painless!! Chelsea & her team were all amazing when we showed up! The cruiser was exactly what we wanted and exceeded our expectations!! We cannot thank them enough for all they did for us!! Also I have to say we met so many Michigan people on our adventure and every single one of them were so nice!!! We will never forget all the kindness we were shown!! Thank you Gateway! Thank you Michigan!!
THANK YOU CHELSEA FOR HOSTING MOCSEM EVENT...GREAT PLACE TO SELL A CLASSIC CAR...
Many classic and hot rods
Do not use this place .. they are really not professional. CrookThe manager shouldn’t work thereThe worth experience
I purchased a C1 Vette from this dealership and it was a great transaction. Mike and Tony were very professional and helpful. I requested additional pictures among other things and they were prompt in response. They worked with the inspector I hired. They took my offers to the owner and help me negotiate a good deal. At shipping time they honored some requests I had before loading and all went smoothly. I recommend these guys strongly.
Its been a poor, frustrating, and unfun experience if you are trying to buy a car from them over the internet or ebay, not sure if any better in person.Be prepared for gaslighting, woeful lack of information and communication, but they will happily take your money. Stick to email, and/or record calls.
Interesting place. Just about any style of classic car you could want. Original to Resto-mod.
Great company. Dropped off two classic cars and they both sold in three months. When the second car sold, I picked my new classic from their large Nationwide dealer network and had it shipped to my home. Thank you!
Tony and Mike were great! They took care of me through the process and got me into a beautiful mustang in days! Both were very helpful in negotiations with the bank and helping me get an appraisal on the vehicle for help with the financing. They got me all info I requested and made buying from them an absolute no brainer. Would seriously recommend to anyone in the market for a classic car.
4th gateway location i have visited. amaazing friendly staff and very knowledgeable. great cars. not sure if this is part of the same franchise, building was poorly lit and different set up.
Bought a 1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega. Was 99% happy with everything. Good service, but make sure you double check gauges! (Claimed fuel gauge was working and was not.) Not a big enough deal to deduct a star. Would definitely consider again for next classic car purchase.
Note: This review is for the Tampa location of Gateway Classic Cars, but they didnt come up in the search, so Im posting it here:I bought a 71 Buick Skylark GS tribute and in the ad it stated This car is ready to drive down to the beach, and It rides and stops with ease. Wow, this couldnt have been more untrue! After receiving the car from the Tampa dealership (I live in California) I noticed the brakes were almost completely shot. I took it to a shop that specializes in classic cars, but was afraid I wouldnt make it there without having an accident, thats how poor the brakes were. The car also died without any discernible cause, in both forward and reverse. Well, long story short, the shop had to put in new brakes, new pads, & new rotors. On top of that the carburetor was bad, the muffler was shot, & the entire exhaust system had to be replaced (and the list goes on and on in regards to more minor things wrong with the car). Well, after more than $10,000 in repairs and four months after I bought it I finally have a car that runs correctly. I believe my sales rep, Rob knew the car had major problems because when I suggested I get it tuned up before I bought it, plus have a mechanic inspect it he wrote this to me in an e-mail The tune-up has not been done since rebuild, however its just recommended, not necessarily required. I can have a mechanic come by and do an inspection, but truth is I actually have some undercarriage pictures that show newly installed control arms and suspension components. I would set up a mechanic to come look at it, but I would need a $1000 deposit on the car first. then you would need to pay the $100 to the mechanic separately. Truth is I would prefer to save you an extra couple of bucks on the inspection, and hope you can see from the pictures I’m sending that it has had a lot of work done. He was clearly dissuading me from having the car inspected, and unfortunately I believed him, and bought it without having the tune up done first, or having a mechanic inspect it, and as a result I had to spend the above mentioned $10,000 plus in repairs just to get the car operational. This is the worst kind of salesmanship, which is basically deceitful. Obviously I wouldnt recommend this dealership. Note: I received a response from the owner of Gateway, Bradley K in which he says your mechanic, not my dealership, took advantage of you because a new exhaust system, carburetor, and brake job costs $1,500, tops. Wow, this guy is a complete joke! Anyone who knows anything about cars knows the average cost for a new exhaust system is about $3,500 by itself. The carburetor is around $500-$600, and new rotors, pads, discs, and the master cylinder is around $1,500. But even saying all this, no one throws estimates around when it comes to cars without having first thoroughly inspected the car, as all cars are different, and the cost for a new exhaust system on one may be different than it is on another depending on the work involved, parts needed, and other unforeseen factors. His response shows hes willing to say anything, even out-right lies to defend himself and his company, just as they were willing to do whatever it took to make the sale, even if it meant having a complete lack of integrity. Please watch out for these guys, do your due diligence, dont believe anything they tell you, and if you still feel you must buy from them please do it in person and have 3rd party mechanic, not connected to them in any way, inspect the car completely. Ive read other reviews though in which potential customers have tried to test drive cars in person or have them inspected, only to be turned away with one excuse after another. So in the end, your only chance to buy from them is if you buy it sight unseen, which is how they make most of their sales. And then youll probably have to invest an average of $5,000 to $10,000 to get the car running properly.Tom Lusey
Bought a 67 nova from Michael Weitz in April 2019.The car was listed to have A/C, power steering, telescopic wheel, T-56 6 speed, Fuel injection. Michael told me the stereo system “Rocks” as it a complete JL audio stereo system.I noticed in the reading and after looking at pictures that the car in fact had a quick fuel carburetor and not fuel injection. I brought this to Michael’s attention and he stated he contacted the seller and he agreed to send the fuel injection set up with the title. Title came and no fuel injection.Let me back up.... the car arrived and immediately upon the delivery driver starting car I could tel the car has a misfire, I get into my garage and start inspecting the car and to my surprise the car was mis represented badly by seller Michael Weitz.Issues... spark plug was broken off #2 cylinder, car had no A/C just a pump, car had no power steering just a rack, header on passenger side was smashed down flat and laying against the oil pan, carpet where the center consul was cut short and is not covered by consul, the exhaust was butchered from 2.5” to 2” out the back, the JL subwoofer is ripped, the JL 600:1 amp was fried and the stereo deck only had 2 sets of pre outs so it was only powering 1 channel of the 4 channel amp, the air ride leaked badly, upper ball joints are wasted, passenger side door rubs fender when opening. Passenger side door popper don’t pop door open (shaved handles) and rear wheel was bent.Fuel injection never came with title as I was told it would. Transmission leaks and motor leaks oil as well.I contacted Michael and he was supposed to call me back, no call back. So I contacted location manager, no call back. So I then contacted the St. Louis location because it their home office... got ran around by 4 different people there that never contacted me back as they stated they would... pretty much just trying to ghost me.I got tired of this and got ahold of a lawyer in Detroit. I have spent the few months getting estimates and fixing some of the things just so I could drive it a bit before summer was done.I am appalled in the way this company fraudulently list vehicles of having said parts that the vehicle truly don’t have. I took pictures of the original listing and sent to my lawyer as well as the 20,000 in estimates it will cost to get the car to where it was advertised as.Then they try to make an as is purchase agreement to try and save their butts but I am moving forward with lawsuit because that disclaimer don’t save you from fraudulently listings when said vehicle was clearly misrepresented to the fullest and if they do inspection on vehicles they claim to do before taking them in they absolutely knew these issues with the car and it contradicts the listing in almost every way.I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for an honest company to represent the vehicles correctly as they have numerous reviews of this same type of behavior.
Beautiful cars but what can you expect they have them in a nice garage
Great place, Beautiful cars and staff is very knowledgeable.
Best classic car showroom hands down! T-Money, aka Wahib knows his stuff!
Best service from the first telephone call with Mike till the wedding day. They’re very polite, pleasant and processional. AJ, the driver on the wedding day, was absolutely amazing.
I purchased a car from the Dearborn store on 3/19/2019 i was corresponding with Michael Weitz and Vincent concerning the check for the vehicle all good. I was supposed to get a call from Mike if the driver had contact him abut my car pick up on 3/30/2019 I find out that the driver had called Gateway classic said that he would be late could someone stay until he gets there to pick my car being that its been there since been paid 3/19/2019. Someone told the driver that someone will be there after 5pm, but later on they said no that they had some where to go. Now what happen to customer service? I called the store and talked with Vincent and asked him if he could have someone come back to the store to let the driver get my keys so I can get my car the answer was no, I already bought the car but cant driver because its in Dearborn, MI and I am in South Florida. Its already costing to get it shipped and its not easy finding a truck to come this way due to price changing and time consuming. Do you Gateway Classic Michael and Vincent care about me the customer who needs my car no they do not. I served my country in the U.S. Marines and Dept of Veterans Affairs always going above and beyond the call of duty serving my fellow Marines and Veterans, and they cant stay an 1.5 for the driver or to come to the store to help the driver pick up my car. The reason the driver was going to be late because he had another customer car on his truck and ran into some problems with the owe to him at the drop point. My frustrations is its been hard finding a driver to pick the car, so if you find one. Hes needs to be on time and keep an open communication line with dealership hes picking up from and they will not be sympatric.
Nice place for classic car enthusiasts to get their feet wet. Cars are available for all budgets.
Over the phone instructions varied quite a bit from what the dealer actually offered. About $2000 more than quoted over the phone.
Great place for a car show. Nice to look and dream about all the cool cars in the show room.
Awesome selection of really nice and cool cars!
Impala was just as described. No surprises and got exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Tony and the gateway team, will be back.-tom
They make 2 thousand dollars of your vehicle that they have no money invested n take your hard earned profit, and make YOU PAY FOR ADVERTISING, shouldnt they do the advertising themself to earn their money, and dont forget, You Pay for the carfax also, its a RIP off, the 249.00 I had to pay them, for them to make money from you, I could have jus payed some one to advertise for me and kept all my money I had invested and not took almost a 3 thousand dollar loss!!!!! Sell it your self and save!
Gateway Classic Cars Detroit, Where do I start ?Car looked great online and the sales person Tony was responsive. Now the way I see it is, they will say anything to make the sale. I gave them the Benefit of the doubt and trusted there professionalism. That was my first mistake, the car was misrepresented in so many ways that it’s embarasing. I was told that this car runs and drives down the road strait and will be very happy with its mechanical condition. Here is the list of issues with the car. 1: Car has no brakes and needs complete rebuild. 2: steering box is completely shot and needs replacement. 3: Front end is so loose that the car is all over the road and will not steer, and is in need of complete rebuild. 4: The car came to me running horrible, after checking the air cleaner, which was missing, The housing had a some sort of rodent nest in it which was being sucked down the carburetor. 5: it took 2 weeks to get a bill of sale from them, very strange since I received the car without ownership papers. These repairs will be very costly and I would not have purchased the car if I was aware of such issues. Yes, I have made a rookie mistake. I trusted Tony and Mike to give me there honest word on the Cars condition and was sucked into the sales pitch. I now own a $18,500 64 ford Galaxie 500 that I can’t drive or repair at this time. I am not saying all there inventory is junk, just saying my purchase was.I am righting this review to possibly help the next person who deals with these gentleman. My recommendations are as follows. If you can afford it, get an independent inspection done on the car. Do not use anyone that they recomend for the inspection.Seek out the best shipping company you can. Pay a little more for your shipping, it will be worth it. These classics are expensive and like most of us, a dream to own. We work very hard for our money.Don’t be fooled by the vehicles outward appearance, dig deep and know the issues.
This place sells cars on consignment. Theyre usually nicer older cars. People were very professional and the place was very clean
