Since my first visit I knew this place was special. Though small, the customer service here is what keeps me visiting week after week. The owners are well-versed in comics and I always enjoy their input and suggestions. I took a long break from comics. I was intimidated from missing over 4 years worth of stories. I had never collected single issues before (mostly volumes) and wasn’t sure where to start. But the owners were kind enough to help me setup several subscriptions that have not disappointed me one bit. Even newbies will feel welcome here.Anything I’ve needed, they’ve ordered if it was possible. They are responsive, kind, and wonderful to work with. I’ve visited every comic shop in El Paso, but Black Sheep will always be my first choice for comics. They also have some cool figures that make me spend more money than I should :)
I was in El Paso looking for a shop to browse through. The policy listed on the door was a little bizarre to me but I get it. You want to protect the books. However, I cannot help but feel disappointed because what if Im just a guy wanting to look at books? Perhaps I really dont know what I want and maybe I want to discover something new. I have been to shops all over Texas and I make a point to visit comic shops when Im in a town. Its probably a cool shop if you know what you want. If you dont, well its exit stage left. The staff was pleasant. So it wasnt terrible but digging in long boxes are a collectors M.O. I left scratching my head because it was fastest time I ever been in and out of a shop. Wow.
Small store but excellent service. Dug the layout and everything was easy to find and she was very helpful
Extremely responsive, helpful, and kind owners. My favorite comic destination. I always make frequent stops here and they never disappoint.
Love this comic book store. Always find quality comics and Funkos. Really courteous employee
A little small, but theres no lack of quality here. They have collected sets of story arcs, graphic novels, Funko! Pops, action figures, busts, short (comic book) boxes, boards and protectors, and more. The staff is friendly and they have a snack to purchase on the way out.If you turn into the strip mall, you havent gone far enough; Black Sheep is in a little parking lot behind the stores, further inward from Lee Trevino Drive, right off Armour Drive.
Very small shop but has a lot of nice things, the prices are very cheap such as the rare comic I got Deadpool #65 can go for a tons of money but, had a fair price for a least 50 bucks which was a steel for me.
We received great service each time. They made utilizing covid-19 protocols very easy. My kids were able to see the items and point or describe the item that they wanted, and the owners we able to easily and quickly retrieve the item we wanted to purchase. We also participated in a Meet and Greet, very impressed with the efficiency and also how they were able to adhere to covid-19 protocols. My kids had an amazing time. We will definitely continue to shop at their store.
Very great place, though a bit out of the way of the beaten trail. Sign outside dictating covid policy.Where your mask.Dont touch anything.Ask if you have any questions. You inside for more than 18 minutes.Standard procedure, though a bit challenging if youre not looking for a specific comic. Different options available. As well as layaway. Ask for more information at the front. Comic holders, comic boards, comic sleeves, and other accessories available as well. Big names drop by like the original Green ranger. Very cool and looking forward to checking it out in the future. It is more of a comic shop, though I did find one shelf for manga. There are also figurines.
Definitely not the best but definetly not the worst for the El Paso area. The shop was very small, but they did have a substantial bit of merchandise. It felt very grundgy when walking in due to the lighting. They could definitely use some improvements to their Google maps location. When trying to find the place I passed it and had to double back to try to find it. I definetly would come back post covid to check out merchandise. Restrictions during covid for not touching or handling comics is a tad difficult, especially when you need to touch comics typically especially when browsing through them.
Small hole in the wall, hidden, different collectables, comics, my son Loved It! Plan to go back.
Horrible customer service......no accommodations and actually kinda rude. Never going back.
Great shop. I love it. Great and friendly staff. Very helpful. Answered all my questions. I will be shopping here more often. Small selection but great selection. Love this store clean and organized. A++++++
Fun every time I go thank you
You have only to look at my other reviews to see that I dont pull any punches when it comes to being critical of an establishment that is underwhelming or downright awful. Just the same, I will the sing the praises of one that deserves them and, it just so happens that Black Sheep is one of the latter. A great example of a prime spot for collectors. This is a comic/hobby shop run by a couple of very courteous and knowledgeable ladies. For such a small (some would say cozy) place it packs a lot of quality punch. Be it comics (back issues and new), figures, statues, or random geek collectibles, Black Sheep has it all.The back issue long boxes have a variety of old material that will have you reaching for the ol wallet and, should you desire, you can get your comic pull fulfilled here as well. Their figure/statue selection is varied and surprising at times. Ive come across both new and old stuff I just have to have. The best part is they have a pretty great layaway program that allows you to secure the stuff you want and pay it off as money allows in a very fair amount of time. Prices are blissfully not insane but pretty damn fair, the selection is always fun to look through, and the service is incredibly friendly. In short, Black Sheep strives to be a welcoming shop for those in love with geek culture and it does so in spades. As we know, the collectors community can be somewhat cloistered and stuffy but Black Sheep feels like service with a smile from the get go. Great shop, great staff, and great selection.
I love this shop. It has incredible variety and such an amazing and willing staff. I feel like they now they know their stuff when it comes to what your looking for in a comic, manga, graphic novel or even just a figure.
The owners there are very friendly and sweet! Ive been subscribed to them almost a year now and I have never had any issues with their service or products. They have an amazing variety of both merchandise and comics, and are always ready to assist or hold an item for me. Ill definitely be going to their store for years to come 👍
Great little place for comics and rare figures! Good prices and friendly owners. If you like collectibles this is a treat place to expand your collection.
I went in today and automatically rummaged their Batman section looking for any additions they may have made to their Shadow of the Bat series. When I didnt find any that I didnt already have, I continued shopping and found some other things I wanted.Once I was ready, I went up to the counter, and the awesome lady, who helped me last time, held up issues 7, 8, and 9! She remembered I was looking to complete the series! I was amazed! Its shops like this that really bring a special sense of joy into collecting. Their customer service is FAR beyond the rest!Tl;dr: Black Sheep is a superior comic shop both in their selection and the amazing people that work there! As always, I highly recommend!
Awesome place for any hobbyist. The the gals there are really cool and knowledgeable. Theyll find you the best deals! 😎
Great place for a variety of collectors. Fair prices, will definitely be back.
Great shop, if they dont have what you are looking for, theyll find it and at a great price. Owners are active in the community and a pleasure to chat with.
I am more of a collector than a reader, it was a bit hard finding this place since Google maps is wrong ( its the plaza behind LA Gorda). I went there and they have a combination of all ages of comics. They do have very good prices on comics ranging from 1-2 dollars. And some vary from 4-50. They have good customer service yet I have never seen the two girls never leave the counter but who can blame them. They have a great store here but I would like more Good comics in the 1 and 2 dollar section. Over all come visit this place its great.
The owners of Black Sheep comics know their stuff, and take the time to know their customers. Whenever I come in, they bring up my subscriptions without having to even ask my name. Theyll always keep an eye out for other series and one-shots they think I might be interested in, and theyre usually right! I know this is good for their business, but its good for me too because theyll tell me about forthcoming titles I wouldnt otherwise be aware of. If I want things that have come out already, theyll find them and order them for me. So convenient! Besides comics they also have little toys, knick-knacks, and collectibles-- and the selection is always interesting and fresh. I like going into Black Sheep comics; I never feel out of place or like I dont know enough about something to be walking into this comic book store. If I have questions, the owners are always really cool about filling me in. I also like going to Black Sheep because I get to support a local business. Ill buy from them anytime over any other comic book place in El Paso or even online.
Love this place! A little small but good prices and good variety of prices
A quaint, locally owned and run comic shop. With owners who love comics just as much as their patrons.
Some of the best gems in terms of back issues and sets and really cool owners and ambience. Space is small but the quality is unbeatable.
Always helpful, great items and figures, also they have layaway for those expensive items you desire. Small but helpful and they are always helpful to get you awesome comic book/nerd culture items you need!
The owner here is super friendly! They have an excellent little shop, its always a pleasure to visit!
Little hole in the wall. Went in today for the first time. Even though its small, their is a good amount of comics and merch. I purchased two Funko POPs. The employee that was there was really friendly and courteous. I would definitely recommend.
One of my favorite places for collectables. Great and friendly staff. Layaway is available for anything in store. :)
Small hole in the wall comics store. Friendly employee, great selection 2pf comics and trinckets. Hidden gem.
Hard to find unless they are having an event. They are tucked in behind other businesses. The events are worth going to (ie:free comic book day)
Tiny place, tiny shop, BIG FINDS! LOVE this place. Those 2 Ladies know their comics.
Black Sheep is a cool shop with a good selection. The owners are very helpful and friendly too.
Not friendly. Over priced toys. Treated like a child upon entering.
Its a small store and can be a bit tricky to find the first time (the owners do have directions on facebook, I think. Too bad Im terrible with directions, haha). But its a real hidden gem. Ive found some great stuff at a bargain price, like a huge consecutive run of Saga and pretty much all of the new 52 Animal Man at about $1 per issue. Theyve upped their prices since then, but theyre still pretty cheap. The owners are also really nice, but if by chance you feel uncomfortable browsing a small store by yourself, no worries! Because of the layout of the building, youre basically isolated from the register so you can browse without feeling like people are watching you.If I had any criticism it would be that the recent releases arent organized very well, or at least they werent the last time I went. It feels like once the leftover new stuff comes off the rack, they throw it in a longbox in no particular order. Or maybe customers mess up the order and it never gets re-organized, who knows. They will be at cover price or above, but the comics usually dont have bags or boards, so they often have damage just from people browsing through and from sitting in the box unsupported. The rest of their comics are in pretty good shape and I dont mind the $0.50 comics being unbagged since theyre not worth much, but if Im gonna buy a recent release at cover price, I dont want it all banged up... Its too bad because Ive actually seen stuff in that box that I was looking for, but not in that condition. Other than that, this is a really great little store, I recommend it. And hey, if theyve fixed the new comics issue since the last time I went, Id gladly edit this review.
Its fun to go you find some unexpected items there
Always so courteous and polite and always have great prices!!
