Ive been using Merlin in Elk Grove IL for quite a few years. Theyre friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. Their prices are fair or better than most competitors. I highly recommend them.

Ive gone to this Merlins for years, and, with at least 3 or 4 vehicles. They have always provided great service at good prices.Ive had your standard oil changes, brakes, shocks, and other random jobs. Today I heard a rattle. Turns out my vehicles heat shield was coming loose. They fixed it up and now no more rattles.I lived just like 2 miles away from their shop for a decade or more. Now I moved about 10 miles away. Lots of other closer shops; but, Ill continue to only go to Merlins.

I always can count on the Elk Grove team to help me when I have any questions or need any repairs! Everyone on the team is awesome and makes me feel safe when visiting. The level of awareness and respect from this location is amazing.

The last time i came here they were supposed to change my oil and rotate my wheels, now i brought my own oil and filter to them my car takes 5.5 quarts i gave them 6 and even told them to put in 5.5 when i came back i asked for the other half quart they told me they didnt have it and i asked why? my car takes 5.5 he went back to talk to the worker and came back and told me that he put all 6 in my car. i was obviously upset and he tried to tell me its no big deal and that because i have a V8 my car can deal with it. i told them no i paid you to change my oil the right way so he said okay we will take a quart out and give it back to you. now i waited and looked and it didnt even seem like he took the half quart back out. As you could imagine i did not want to come back here after. if this wasnt bad enough time came for me to do my rear breaks so i wanted to do them myself. i did one side with no problems. on the other side being the driver rear, when i went to take the lugs off they just spun and it became clear that the lugs were cross threaded and the studs came off with the lugs. So here i am now having to change the wheel bearing and hub and this is going to set me back at least $800. Thanks a lot Merlin.

I took my car in for lack of power and poor acceleration. The problem was diagnosed quickly as a collapsed catalytic converter..the parts were ordered ( special order part) and with in a day they came in and was installed correctly at very reasonable price and very quickly.The cars runs like new ... Great service and very friendly

I went in because I received a coupon which was honored. I had 2 separate appointments with them and the phone call was easy and straight forward. Both experiences I felt were positive but it took 25% longer than they estimated that the job would be completed both times. In terms of cost, it wasnt the cheapest but it is worth it to pay more for better service. I think my car performance is better but Ill update if that changes.

After wheel alignment went to check tire pressure, front tires had 3 psig difference. Had to drive back, wait again while they check alignment. Waste of time for everyone.

Best shop in the area, great owners and staff. They have other locations if you need something closer.

Ive had an excellent experience with Merlin every time ive come in for auto work. Im impressed with the quality of customer service and knowledge the folks in the office provide. Im sitting here while I wait for an oil change and it puts a smile on my face to listen to the employees talk to the clients about how their cat is.. you can really tell they have a good relationship with locals.. very nice. This is also my go to auto shop!

This is absolutely the best place I’ve ever used for auto repairs in almost 30 years of driving and having lived in several states. They are honest, their prices are great, they get repairs done in a timely manner while keeping you in the loop every step of the way, and they go out of their way to find hard to find parts (which is often a challenge when one of cars is your very first car (1989 Plymouth Horizon)). I highly recommend this Merlin’s location.

Came in from out of town and thought our brake fluid was leaking. Merlin was able to see us that day - we dropped the car off a couple hours before our appointment and Merlin had it complete by the time our appointment was scheduled. Sean was incredibly helpful, and looked into a couple other ailments the car had. Price point was incredibly, my wife and I were thrilled at the service we received and the cost. Although we dont live in the state, we would highly, highly recommend it to anyone.

My family has lived in the Elk Grove area for 30+ years and have been using Merlins for many years for all of our cars and SUVs both new and older vehicles. We have used them for everything you can think of from tires, batteries, brakes, shocks, AC, cooling system, plugs, wiper motors, leaks, heater, etc., etc.They have always been honest and trustworthy as well as very competitive with their pricing. When there was an option as to the level of repair they would always offer it to me explaining the options with the up side and down side and in terms that are understandable. Never pushy or using scare tactics.This shop and its management is like the good old days of a quality honest repair facility.I will continue to use them for all of our vehicles and recommend them to my family and friends.

Very knowledgeable, friendly technicians, owners and the staff. My cars engine was making loud clinking sound since two weeks. Technician quickly identified the issue of bad Timing Chain. They replaced Timing Chain kit at reasonable price. Now the car runs silent and check engine light is also gone. Great warranty for parts and labor.

Shawn (the guy who is usually behind the counter) is a friendly and helpful guy. Most of the work Ive had done here has been satisfactory. A couple times Ive not been happy, but theyve tried to appease me afterward. Unfortunately, one of the times was right before a road trip so that really upset me. But, its close to my house and like I said, they usually do a decent job. I do trust what they tell me (as far as repairs needed or repairs that will be needed soon).

Just called for new tire quote. Though, they were unable to help find... They did recommend several of their competitors. Customer service on phone was better than in person at most places. Very pleased!

I usually go to Honda to get things done for my 2009 Accord, however, recently they have been trying to rip me off, today I went to get an oil change and they told me I need a total front and break repair, I then went to Merlin and they inspected my Brakes FOR FREE, I will only be going to Merlin, and they explain everything to me and have VERY reasonable pricing. Thank you Merlin!

I used the same auto repair shop for years in another town. Been trying to find the right shop ever since. Well, this Merlins locatoin is the place! I have been going there for about 2 years now and as of today, I can honestly say they have become my new go-to place! Today they proved to me that money isnt their ultimate goal. Please do not take your car here! I had my front brakes replaced in 2017 and my rear brakes replaced in 2016. Both need to be redone again, along with warped rotors and its only April, 2018! Ive only put 10K miles on the car since the repairs. It makes no sense that brakes and rotors would wear out that quickly. What a waste of money.

The last time I was their I took it in to fix my exhaust pipe. It had a huge hold and had to replace it. Thinking after a whole new one it wouldnt make any sound right. Well, no it still has a humming sound to it. While I was there I witnessed a fight between the manager and an employee. Right in the open. Right in front of me. They were swearing and screaming. They told me what else was wrong with my car, I told them Id take it somewhere else. Never again. Dont take your car their! They lie and just want your money.

Took my car to Merlins on 1/6/2018 - had oil changed and tires rotated. Mitesh Patel informed me that all my brake rotors and pads need to be replaced ASAP, didnt show me any proof - albeit I didnt ask at that time. Told me that I would have not more than 1000 miles on the rear rotors before they will wear off completely (on a 16 car). Being a prudent owner the next day I went to Bridgestone to get a second opinion, as I thought that the original quote was steep, and actually measure thickness of pads and rotors. Found out that they are all within norms, e.g. pads have >6 mm. and discs are fine too. Clearly Mr. Patel is a friendly samaritian who misinformed me to sell unnecessary services (>$600 parts and labor). Whats offensive for me in this situation is that how easily the misinformation was uncovered, saving myself significant amount of money. That makes me worried if they did a good job of changing oil (did they pour synthetic, or?). Please, be aware.

I took my Jeep in gor a noise on the muffler wich was brand new,they told I need to replace everything and $1000..than they told me my radiator is leaking brand new also and in top of that they broke my plastic when they try to open my hood and they say they didnt do it..bs..the place dontt deserve a star..worst mechanics..oh I took the jeep somewhere else and it was a piece of metal lose $20 repair..stay away..

I took my Ford Escape in for an oil change on 12/30/15. While at Merlins, the owner (Neil or Tesch Patel) told me that the vehicle needed new brakes and control arms. He said that the wheels on my car would fall off, leaving me stranded if the control arms weren’t repaired soon. He even showed me a picture on his phone of a car that had this problem stuck on the road. I wanted a second opinion, so the price got cheaper after I said “No”.I took the car to a service department at a professional dealership. The Service Advisor showed me the control arms and explained how they worked. He told me that nothing was wrong with them and the wheels would not fall off of the car.I took a thirteen year break from Merlins after they tried to overcharge me for breaks. With new ownership, I thought that I would try again--big mistake. Neil and Tesch Patel are friendly and personable, but they are dishonest and only want your money. They lie to your face. I would give this place zero stars if I could.

Well. Got a flat tire and they replace it. Tire was about $165 when I bought it before the flat, but to replace the tire was 300, so 135 for labor. Does that sound right to you?

Bought a exhaust system from Merlins 5 years ago for $600. It is now rusted out and needs to be replaced. I had a warranty for 200,000 miles yet Merlin wants to charge me another $600 to do the work. Their warranty is worthless as are their mufflers. Do not use Merlins.

Took my car into today and have to honestly say some pretty bad customer service, I stopped by the day before to tell the service writer i would be dropping off the car the following day with all the concerns I had, 7 in total. Had to call for an update on my car when I talked to the guy he said he had to track down parts that where not available for 2 days, not a big deal but was never told what the part was. another concern was the service adviser told me that the fuel lines that were costly and he would rather repair them than replace them....thought i was the owner of the car let me make that call.....and the fuel lines are plastic what were you going to do epoxy them? for $250? no thank you. never priced out the parts of the gaskets leaking and the cost to replace them, told me my tires were dry rotted and needed to replace them i have goodyears on there now and you quote me some no name brand tires. once again i own the car let me choose what i want. granted my car needs repair if you dont want the business dont post the open sign on the window. as far as my check engine light being on and this sniff test you need to perform, I know DTCs are stored in the cars ECM those codes stored are for particular failure in a particular system, there are DTC maps you follow to rule out what is working and what is not its called the diagnostic process. and what about my ac concern? still wondering about that till this day. I believe that your shop lacks the knowledge to perform repairs as well as service staff to genuinely care and help their customers

These people all what they had to do was an oil change and rotate tires, well, they did it wrong.They cross threated two of my wheel studs with the impact and the stud broke at the next rotation, plus all the other 38 lug nuts were over torqued! If you do not know how to use an impact do not use it, easy! Never coming back again!

Prompt oil changes over lunch break. Usually no appointment necessary.
