The engine was idling rough and chugging along. Found out it was an issue with the manifold and not worth the cost to repair. My vehicle was 19 years old. Up to that point in time, Pat and his team kept it in repair so I was able to get to work every day without issues.Extremely happy with the customer service and customer care I always get at American Imports. Kudos to Pat and all of his talented team. Thanks again Pat for all that you have done and shown such great courtesy to me through out the years.

American Imports is an amazing repair shop in the Forest Lake area. They were incredibly helpful and communicated everything that was wrong with my car when fixing it. They were also really honest about what needed to be done and what it would take to fix. They are really responsive and so very kind. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone I know.
Took days to get a call back. Then get run around about how busy they are and manager is too busy wrenching. Claimed to call back, but no missed call or voicemail. Very poor communication keeping me updated. Was told both Calipers would need to be replaced. Brought the car to Audi and they said not true, just one needed. Quoted me $1400 for each caliper. Audi came back at $980. Told me it would be 8 weeks to get part from Audi, where as Audi 7-10 days.Paid for service of brake flush. Audi tech said brake fluid looked very bad and needed to be done a day after American Imports allegedly did this. Spent nearly $500 at American Imports for testing and diagnostics and literally had none of the issues I brought my car in for fixed. Extremely skeptical they did the checks they claimed to. Check engine light was on, said there were a bunch of issues, like 7 of 8 cylinders were misfiring but then after they had my car 10 days and I asked about it they said codes cleared and was good to go and must have just been bad gas. Light Came back on when I left. Brought to Audi and they diagnosed 02 sensor fail.Guys were polite enough, but the way I got told we will call you back in an hour, then nothing for days more than once.. then excuses why... Then to have me all but convinced I got scammed on a brake flush and possible other things I got charged for on top of it.Audi customer service, communication, tech knowledge, turnaround time, repair quotes all blow American Imports away. You can’t claim to be the dealership alternative and be completely 2nd rate compared to the dealership. I will never go back here. Feel robbed. Hands down my worst customer service experience in 20 years of car ownership.

I brought my Lexus here for an inspection because I had some warning lights coming on and was noticing a slight vibration in my steering wheel. They told me my front brakes and rotors were bad and warped, and my back brakes were shot. They also told me almost all my fluids were very low. I was shocked as I had my front brakes and rotors done just one month earlier.They quoted me over $1000 for the brakes and rotors. That didn’t include the fluids they said were low. They also told me that they could do the brakes but there might be more going on so “be prepared.” Meaning - be prepared to spend more with us!The person telling me all this made comments I felt were meant to emotionally motivate me. Such as the statement “what really scares me about this...” Using words like “scare” to get me scared lol.I ended up taking it somewhere else for a second opinion. I took it to a mechanic shop I know well and trust. I told them everything they told me at American Imports. I asked these guys to please check everything- brakes plus axels, ball joints, rear differential, etc. After a couple of hours of thoroughly inspecting my car, they said all that was needed was my rear brakes. The front brakes and rotors were in great shape and none of my fluids were low. They charged me $320.Now the warning lights don’t come on and there’s no longer a slight vibration.American Imports tried to take me for over $1000 and charge me for work that wasn’t even needed.
I cannot recommend this place enough. They are honest, knowledgeable, on time, and friendly. I drive 45 minutes each way just to come here. They have fair prices and a nice waiting room with coffee and snacks.

Great staff and service, have been coming here for years. Always thorough and help me out how they can. Never pushy and stand behind their work (had a new caliper o ring rip once but once they saw it they fixed no charge asap! I like the waiting area with the individual portals and TVs and their birthday special. Shout out to Pat at the front, hes always been excellent with communication and follow up!

First experience-I was broke down and the cop recommended them. He stated that the department used American Imports for many repairs and were very pleased with them...so I got towed there on a Saturday and they immediately found the problem, which was the starter, gave an estimate and I gave the go ahead. 2 hours later good to go. It took longer waiting for the tow truck. Second experience-my clients car had several issues, so i recommended them and she agreed so called got an appt for next day. Got us a quote, gave a loaner car and the car was fixed by noon the next day. Wheel bearings, heat thermostat,blower, shocks, and some other stuff, which i will add when i check invoice. Also,nice nice waiting areas, WiFi, tv, beverages, snacks, and a nice clean restroom!! Also, service guy was super nice!!!
Had a Volvo sent there and they messed up air box had Cadillac there they wanted way to much they wanted to over charge me for my Buick and I bought a car from the owners friend and well he was not Honesty either there are other repair shops in Forest Lake
Went in for a scheduled oil change. They do a quick vehicle inspection at the same time witch I like because they include pictures with the report.

This is a Automotive Repair/Shop that you can trust! I fully depend on the information I get from the mechanic. Because Im not a car person they will give me options and tell me the truth. Theyre not out to up-sell you items that are necessary - like you might get from a drive through repair shops you need a new air filter ever hear that?.When we were purchasing a used car, we were able to come in for a check to see if there might be any upcoming problems with the vehicle. Sure enough there were! I feel as if we dodged a bullet!One time our daughters car started acting up, she called and was able to get right in to see a mechanic to diagnose the problem. Im not saying this happens all the time but, luckily this time she diverted a potential big problem.One more thing, do you know your mechanics name when you call in to your current service shop? I do. Do they know who you are when you call? Mine does.Call American Imports talk to Mary, schedule your appointment and begin a relationship with a car service you can trust.

If you’re looking to have work done or diagnosed on an actual import take it elsewhere!! These people drag their feet and take your money in the process!! I highly recommend going to Imola. Their work and labor prices are actually reasonable. These people are just a bunch of crooks that are the reason mechanics get such a bad reputation. Avoid this place!

Best body shop in the area! Clean waiting room with refreshments. The mechanics are highly knowledgeable about the vehicles and won’t jerk you around like many other auto body shops.

It was my first time here and I had them do a ton of my recommended maint on my Mercedes. I sent them the invoice from the dealer and they came back with prices that were 1/2 or 1/3 the cost. The also used genuine parts. Brakes were not needed (though the dealer said they were) so they said I should wait on those. Honest work seems to be hard to find these days but look no further.
On the 7th of July this year i was traveling from the cities to Duluth and had a very bad vibration coming from my 2007 Toyota van. I turned off at forest lake and stopped in at American Imports, being the very end of the day and not having an appointment i wasnt sure if they were going to be able to help me out. But not only did they check out the problem but they fixed it also in a very short time. Needless to say i was very pleased with their expertise and professional attitude. Great place to have vehicle work done.

I work close to American Imports and I always get my oil changes during lunch! The service is great and the office and staff is the cleanest I have see for a mechanic shop! I will definitely keep coming back for all my work.
So I really had a hard time with this, but had to do it. Ive been coming to this shop for as long as it was open, before I went to the BP in Forest Lake which they own also. Main reason for me coming here was Mary the service writer, she always told me what needed immediate attention for repairs and what could wait, being a single mom, with 4 cars, I so appreciated this, I was never screwed over. Well, Mary was let go last week, I called and I scheduled my oil change, this was a free one from a special they ran, I didnt have the card for it but Foung looked on my account and found that I had one and allowed it, I told him I would drop off the car and come back for it. I dropped it off told Foung that I have oil additive to put in and it was in the cup holder, and to put 8000 on my mileage sticker for next oil change. When I came to pick it up he gave me the keys and I gave them to my daughter, she got in and then she showed me the oil additive that wasnt put in, so I went back in and ask who did the oil change, he told me and I told him that he had done most of my oil changes and why wasnt the additive put in, never had an issue before, I ask if he had put it on the work order, he said yes, I said well obviously he did read the work order. They wanted to add it then, and I said so you want to over fill my oil. I said forget it and walked out. Got home, went and looked at the sticker and it had only 5000 on it, then went and checked the oil, there where greasy hand prints all over the hood and on the door. I called them and told them, I said that they will be loosing lots of customers if they dont make their employees read work orders, and do what the customers want. I more than likely wont be back, Mary is already sorely missed. People make them tow the line, check their work, and especially their quotes. Good luck American Imports, I think you made a big mistake getting rid of her, and if you look at most of your reviews its Mary they praise, she bent over backwards for me with my warranty on multiple cars to get things done.
It puts my mind at ease having a repair shop I can trust. American Imports does a great job keeping our vehicles in optimal condition. When repairs are needed they go above and beyond to explain what needs to be repaired, why and how much it will cost. Thank you for a great experience.

Mark, Wade, and Andrew have always treated my vehicles respectfully when they work on them.I have recommended American Imports to friends and co-workers, and never heard a complaint or that they were unhappy with the work.
Came in at 3:15 on a Saturday for an oil change when they close at 4:00. The man at the counter told me they were closing soon and wouldnt be able to do it. Sad, because I would have loved to use a local service as opposed to the larger chain changes.

Took my Mercedes 320 SEL CDI here on Tuesday December 4th, 2018 for service and oil and filter change. Husband just discovered oil is low and black. No oil or filter change done though I was charged for it!!! Unbelievable!!

We have three old Saabs, and American Imports is our go-to place for anything we cant (or wont) do ourselves. We started taking our Saabs here when a tensioner pulley went out on our 9000 CSE. The repair was done fast, right, and under budget. Since then we have been having most of our maintenance and repairs done here. Mary is amazing; loads of fun to talk to and very knowledgeable. Wade will explain anything to you in clear plain language, and help prioritize repairs and maintenance. Ive never felt pressured to have work done. Some things I can do myself, once I know what Im dealing with, and its nice to have people who will show you the whats and wheres and explain the whys. Their estimates are always clear, and theyll tell you if you dont need something done that you thought you did. Im hoping this continues to be the case!

Took my RV there, they told me the transmission was shot and it would be $2800 to fix. It went in reverse though which I was told ment the transmission was good yet so I called a shop 10 miles away and they said that they would look at it. In the end the $2800 bill costed us $600 as it was a blown out carburetor and it works fine. Wouldnt suggest this place to anyone and would actually advise anyone that will listen not to take their vehicle there as apparently the mechanics are just out to get more money from their customers with un-needed repairs.
