Lovely afternoon on the patio. had a 30 minute wait for a patio table, it was worth it. the mac and cheese with bacon was incredible and my friends really enjoyed their biscuits and gravy and chicken pot pie. we all split a Ginger key lime pie for dessert and it was incredible I cannot recommend enough!!I got there seasonal cocktail and it was very light. probably should have gone for a warm beverage because it was a bit chilly! perfect fall day.
One of our favorite restaurants anywhere in the US. The food is unbelievably good. The service is great and the staff seem to enjoy their jobs. The attention to detail demonstrates the attention to detail that is evident throughout. Worth making a special trip to Fort Collins!
Outstanding breakfast spot in a town that put breakfast spots on the map. Friendly staff and top with a beautiful setting. I had the breakfast burrito which was delicious. My wife shared the breakfast skillet with a friend. They loved it. The restaurant is located within the 100+ yr old renovated historic Colorado Feed store. There is something for everyone. Nice bakery and gift store as well as The Cache fine dining restaurant. Highly recommend.
Definitely 1st Class experience! Food was awesome! Service was 1st Class, all the way! Price was reasonable! Will definitely visit there again!!
Wow! I’ve been looking for a great breakfast spot in N Co since i moved here and I found it!Great service! Great food! You won’t be disappointed
I really really wanted to five star this amazing bakery. It was clean, very cute, and the service was amazing! The pies are so beautiful. However, I got my blueberry pie home and excitedly cut in only to find that the filling was basically blueberry soup. Dont get me wrong, it still tasted wonderful but the filling was definitely a let down. That said, next time I make my way up there Ill probably just try a different pie and update my review.
If you are going on a date to this place, you’ll be sure to impress your date with your choice! It is so perfect! The ambience, the food! Everything is sourced locally, so you can taste the freshness of the food and drinks. It also had a menu for my furry son!❤️ He enjoyed it as much as we did!Definitely going back!
We went here because I have been wanting to try it. Also we had our dog with us and other reviews stated they have a dog friendly patio. Not only is the patio dog friendly, but there were menu items specifically for her! I didnt give five stars, although would add another half of a star if I could, only because I thought the food I ordered (I had the fried green beans and the turkey pesto sandwich w/side salad) was very good, but not anything I would personally go back for. I would however like to go back and try other menu items. I did have a difficult time deciding what to eat, because the variety of options is remarkable. Service was great! Atmosphere is comfy, hip and fun. I would definitely go back.
Super disappointed. Was told 45 minutes to be seated and waited over an hr before finally asking about a time frame. The host stated she just sat someone else and I would have to wait longer. I told her its okay well just go elsewhere and she said awesome thanks, bye. I thought this would be a neat place to try being from out of state but I feel like I was looked down on. Other people walked by randomly and said oh this place looks good and got seated immediately but I was wait listed. Its too bad because i love blogging about places to eat in different states. Im sure the food is awesome.
Amazing! Wonderful cocktails, great service, delicious food! The Mac & Cheese is just a step up and so yummy. Cant go wrong with the French Dip or the pot pie. The Quiche is silky fabulous goodness with a wonderful crust! Try the breaded green beans for a fun appetizer treat! Dont get me started on the pie selection! Oh my!! Just go! Plenty of free parking across the street.
Absolutely incredible ambiance and food! Everything about dining here was amazing, from the service, to the entree, and on to dessert. I had the meatloaf, which came with honey glazed carrots and whipped-to-perfection mashed potatoes. For dessert, the house special strawberry pie was, in some ways, like my favorite cake (strawberry shortcake) but with a crunchy house pie crust. I cant recommend Ginger and Baker enough, I hope I get the chance to stop in again before heading home!
Had an amazing experience at this resturant. If you love chicken pot pies, dont even think about it and order one. This is by far the best chicken pot pie I have every had. Extremely flavorful, perfectly creamy from the inside and with a beautifully crispy crust exterior. We also tried the passion fruit pie(since we loved it so much in hawaii) and couldnt belive it. It was a meringue pie and with an intense flavor of passion fruit.... if you love the fruit flavor you will get your fill!Ambience = 5 starsService = 5 starsFood = 5 starsThis place wins a solid 5 stars! The great service provided by our lovely server was icing on the cake. He never took his mask off but you could see him smiling with his eyes throughout our interaction with him... a much appreciated attitude during these COVID days!
I love this place! Food is really good and the staff is also really nice. The wait for the food is a little long but not too long, but it is definitely worth the wait. (BTW one of the best burgers and fries I eaten)
My wife dragged me in to G and B for Breakfast. It is the same as a chain, with no sincere character, no sole. Just like a Red Lobster, worse then StarBucks. MacDonalds has much better coffee. My Latte was cold and acidic. So I ordered a coffee, same result. It is worth a visit to see how to turn a Mom and Pop into a corporation. Very Beautiful, with lots of paid employees punching the clock. Perfect for loud, plastic people.
This was our first time dining at Ginger + Baker and we had such an amazing experience! Our server Jackie was awesome and our food was incredible. This was hands down one of the best meals I’ve had in Colorado. Their chicken pot pie was so flavorful and we even got a fresh slice of pie to-go! I live in Denver and would gladly drive to Fort Collins any weekend to come back here! I highly recommend!
What a cute and delicious place! I had been doing to try this place out and it certainly did not disappoint! Their strawberry arugula salad was so good! And of course I HAD to try their pie. O got the strawberry pie and it was honestly the best Ive ever had. If you havent tried Ginger & Baker, I highly recommend it!
This Fort Colins restaurant is a gem! A beautifully renovated century plus old building with a modern expansion that is amazing. While waiting for a table, an employee spent 20 minutes giving us a private tour of the entire restaurant, from kitchen, to wine cellar, all while giving us a background of the history of this location. We had a coffee and my youngest had a hot chocolate while we waited which was great! They have a small shop up front with lots of unique things to see and buy including produce from a farm they own. It was fall during our visit so it was pumpkins, gourds, etc. all was fantastic and we hadn’t even sat down for dinner yet. With ample outdoor seating we sat along the sidewalk for our meal. For drinks we had Coconut Chai and Pumpkin Latte. Both fantastic. Daughter had a mac and cheese with bacon. We also had meat loaf and a recommendation of Chicken pot pie. Everyone was sampling from each other as each dish was delicious! I would definitely recommend this place and plan to visit again!
Phenomenal baked items! Creative dishes that you thought you knew but their twist kicks it up a notch. Go enjoy something amazing in a beautifully gilded wood & marble locale. 😍😋💘
Ginger and Baker has come to be one of our favorite places in Fort Collins. Everything on the menu is exceptional, and the Chicken Pot Pie is absolutely superb. My mother was not pleased when I said it was the best Id ever had. Weve also had the salmon with cauliflower risotto and grilled corn and burrata salad. Although not a pie person, the chocolate and lemon meringue is divine. The service is always very attentive and prompt, and the location is very open and enjoyable. Patio seating is great on a warm evening. This is a must stop in Fort Collins.
I would walk across rusty nails, hot coals, and rattlesnake fangs for the staff here. The food is truly incredible and reasonably priced considering the quality (entrees between $10 & $30). The service staff are always friendly and give great recommendations, but itd be hard to give a bad recommendation here. The food is always so good, and the drinks are expertly crafted.I highly recommend the chicken pot pie. Theyve perfected pie crust, and the white gravy inside makes my mouth water every time.
Waiter was hands down top five I have ever had. Made the experience very enjoyable and his knowledge of the dishes & combinations was astounding. Unfortunately, I did not remember his name but, he was working the rooftop, was 27, and athletic build. Great job. Food was different than I have experienced in region however, 10 out of 10, would do it again. Thanks!
The food is very tasty! I had the breakfast burrito minus the meat and they substituted avocado 🥑 which made it really good 👍. The best part was our server. Hannah was the best! Be sure to ask for her section
Ginger and Baker is the Magnolia of CO. We went for dinner without a reservation. We did have to wait for a little bit as expected. Totally worth it. Service was great. We started with the pretzel and beer cheese, and had the pot pie, the salmon with cauliflower risotto, and the mac and cheese with bacon. We also took home a slice of the lemon meringue pie, the midnight chocolate pie, and the chocolate Bundt cake. Highly recommend all of it! Also a great selection of local beers.
I have never, ever, had less than an amazing meal and a delightful time here. Be it dining in, picking up a pie, stopping by CC’s Flower Truck, or just grabbing coffee. Ginger and Baker nails it every. Single. Time. We are SO lucky to have this gem in Fort Collins!!!
Non-dog owners beware!Im a regular here and really enjoy the food. I dont have the desserts but the all day breakfast and lunch options offer good variety and my poached eggs are always consistently well-cooked. Staff are attentive and friendly. BUT, dont go when theyre busy and expect them to allow you to sit at a vacant table on the patio if you dont have a dog. The maitre d literally just told me we couldnt have a vacant patio table and that two people with a dog (who were standing behind me) would take precedence over my family of four for a table. Ive sat out there plenty of times before amongst several tables without dogs. I guess dogs must be great business for them. :/
Great breakfast and the bakery is delish. It can get busy on weekends so plan ahead. This place never disappoints.
I can’t go all the way down to one star because I haven’t had the food, though we have tried TWICE now, and found that the staff really struggles with the concept of seating and serving people. The first time we tried, they confirmed a table was available then walked us aimlessly around the restaurant, and finally upstairs, where we waited and waited and no server ever came, so we left. They were definitely not busy, as we were one of only two occupied tables upstairs. Ok, probably just a bad day, things happen, we get it. We didn’t hold it against them, and tried again today. Bad again. We hoped for a table outside, and were told there would be a 30-minute wait, or we could sit at a a self-serve table on the sidewalk. Sweet, we’d do as the waiter said, and order from the window connected to the market. Another breakdown. The young lady working there (the same one who told us she couldn’t help seat us at the self-service tables when we first walked in) looked at us like we were aliens when we asked to order some food/drinks from her. Good grief. Train your people, or at least hire people who are interested in trying to help the customer. I’m not trying to be a jerk, but you really need to fix this. We really want to try the food someday because the reviews are so good.
Im a long-time patron of G&B. They have an awesome veggie pot pie and great vegetarian options in general, great atmosphere, and we love the shop and pies.On a recent visit (likely due to COVID), we experienced some issues with consistency - drink service took a long time and one of my companions pot pie was nearly burnt - much, much darker when compared to the other two on the table. We also requested patio and were seated indoors without discussion or explanation. But I will definitely still be back!
Not as great as I expected from the hype. Service was adequate but nothing special. Server got the bills all messed up. Did was quite good but a bit pricey for comfort food.
First visit to this restaurant and it is terrific. Very good menu, great service and excellent food. Very nice gift shop and bakery too. Likely will become one of our favorites in the Fort Collins region.
A favorite amongst my family.I always bring my out of town guests here, as its a must for food and coffee.Best prep a few days ahead of time, as youll want to save room for a big ol slice of pie (best consumed inside a milkshake).
From the minute I entered the door I was in love. Market, bakery and coffee bar and bar/restaurant. It seems like thats too many things to be, but they make it seem natural. Really great gift and home items laid out in an attractive manner. The pies in the bakery case looked absolutely divine. Like Great British Bake Off level. By this time wed spoken with two different staff members, both who were as welcoming and hospitable as could be.We stayed for lunch and I had, at the servers (Elizabeth - you were awesome!) suggestion, the pot pie. Wow. I mean wow. It was pure culinary perfection. Flaky but substantial crust, deeply flavorful filling with plenty of tender chicken, and a simple salad with a surprisingly good vinaigrette. We finished with a piece of the lemon meringue pie, which was perfection. Literally. Our server was gracious, informed, personable, and great with our kids. There was a lot of obvious effort to make the dine-in experience COVID safe, which allowed us to eat here without discomfort. We were visiting from out of town (St. Louis, MO) and our 10yo said we are coming here every time we come to Colorado! 😂 Ginger and Baker, you are doing everything right. Keep it up. ♥️
I always love eating here. It’s cute, delicious, and the staff is always friendly. The menu changes slightly with the season and that always keeps me coming back to try something new.Hands down one of my favorite places in Fort Collins.
This is one of our favorites to stop at anytime we come to ft Collins. We enjoy walking the shop, getting a coffee, and some great food! Our favorite go-to are the fried green bean starters. So good with the sauce
This was my first time here and it was an amazing experience!!!! Do you have this fear was amazing, the staff was extremely knowledgeable, I got to meet Ricky who gave us an amazing tour of the entire place and I even got to meet Ginger the owner. It is the most warmest atmosphere, the food is absolutely delicious, the customer service is beyond amazing, the prices are extremely fair and I would recommend this hands-down to anybody coming into Fort Collins who wants a relaxing quiet environment with delicious food.
My wife and I came here for lunch on a Saturday while visiting Fort Collins from out of town. Super nice place with a cozy country atmosphere, and a nice patio with a cover to sit under. Food was amazing, she loved her chicken pot pie that had an delicious flaky homemade crust. My breakfast burrito was one of the best I’ve ever had, filled with carnitas, eggs, potatoes, peppers and onions, topped with a slightly smoky salsa. Definitely highly recommend this place!
So our order didnt come out perfect but still great coffee and everyone loved the gigantic pies and even gf goodies
Do yourself a favor and just go here.My husband and I are very good cooks & picky as all get out. We NEVER eat out because we’re always disappointed.However....Ginger & Baker is incredible. The aesthetics, atmosphere, and obviously the food. We’ve never had a bad meal here. They understand food and the techniques that make it exceptional. There is so much love in everything they do. It’s always fresh and the service rocks.Oh and the coffee is fabulous too!Not a bad thing to say about this place. It’s very rare to come across such an exceptional restaurant but these guys have got it down.
Staff a little disorganized. Partial order filled on one guest. Staff rectified and didnt charge. Thats the way to make it right. Environment is awesome with great location and abundant parking.
One of our favorite places in Foco! We have done brunch at the bakery, lunch, and dinner, and have never once been disappointed (even when it was take out only during the earliest parts of the pandemic). We love the fried green beans to start, the cocktails are great, and the pastries and pies are lovely. The cute shop is an added bonus. Absolutely a perfect spot for a nice meal outside in the sun, or inside on a cold day.
This used to be our favorite special occasion restaurant. Though expensive, it was worth it: really good food and excellent service and we really enjoyed eating there. We went for the first time since its re-opening last night, taking some friends whom had never been there out to dinner. It was a real disappointment. The halibut was a tiny portion that looked and tasted like it came out of a frozen box. The broccolini was cold. We waited a long time for our food to arrive, and the service, though adequate, was not at all the excellent service we had always received before. Prices have gone way up and the food and service was not at all worth it. Best part of the evening was the easy parking across the street. We were embarrassed to have taken our guests there after we had told them how good it was.
Delicious! Great menu, service and outdoor patio!💕
The service was really good. However, the food was meh and very salty. My whole family has been thirsty for hours after lunch. Big disappointment and definitely not the quality from the last time we ate there. The pie crust could not be cut with a fork and actually had to use a knife and fork to eat my slice of pie. Not sure what the ingredients are for the crust but it was very tough and not flakey.
To me this is the only high end gourmet restaurant in Ft. Collins. We were the first diners in at 4:00 and were warmly greeted by one of the owners (Ginger). Has a drink at the bar and headed to our seat by the window looking out over the neighborhood. We both had steaks that were cooked to perfection. My salad and my wifes mushroom soup (Hazel Dell local), were super! Desert was chocolate cake, so big we had to take half home with us. Our boxes even had on them whose was whose! The award winning wine list was extensive. The service from all who served was first class. We both highly recommend this restaurant to everyone, either for a special occasion or if you just want to have a great meal. Dont forget to check out the open air roof top bar. This review is for the Cache Restaurant.
Fun spot. Lively waitress. Decent food
Very nice restaurant close to downtown and CSU campus. More casual setting downstairs and more formal one upstairs, each with its own menu. Good food, nice place.
What started as a promising experience, turned south quickly. I realize we went during labor day. Many places were closed, so finding open restaurants was tough. From the outside, it looked nice, fresh. The inside, also warm and inviting. We entered, waited at the hostess station what seemed an eternity. Several staff members passed us without a word. Finally, we were told wed be seated shortly. We were told itd be a 20 minute wait. The place was near empty. No problem. Seated at the bar, it was also a long time to get waited on. Ill get to brass tracks, the food was okay. We drank water and the staff struggled to keep our glasses filled. Other bar eaters had carrafs of water to keep glasses filled. When the food was served, we needed to remind staff utensils were needed. Overall, the service was so disappointing that I will not hear of a return visit.
These folks have beautifully renovated an old feed store. You really need to see it! Food is exceptional. Never thought Id consider a chicken pot pie as crack.....yeah, they are THAT good!
Ginger and Baker is a nice place for homestyle food. The Cache, which is upstairs, disappoints. Recently booked a reservation for a surprise anniversary dinner with my wife. Pre-arranged for flowers and champagne. When we arrived, no flowers or champagne and the staff was clueless what I had arranged for. The food is touted as upscale. I found it way too expensive for the quality of the food. We had 2 salads, 2 meals and a bottle of champagne and it cost $210 ($150 without the champagne). Would recommend Ginger and Baker but not The Cache. for an excellent fine dining experience, try the Still Whiskey Steaks.
Wowzers, what a great place to dine and drink. This was my 5 th time there and have never been disapointed!!
We have had several meals here and every one of them has been delicious. The food really is good and the Chicken Pot Pie and salad is exceptional.
Experienced Ginger and Baker for the 1st time today with my family. I was very impressed!!! 5 StarsThe staff from the moment we walked in were very friendly & welcoming. The entire layout is stunning. We had the pleasure of sitting in front of open doors. Menus are unique, so adorable. Entrees are fairly priced, no more than your typical restaurant. Food was delicious and out of the ordinary.FANTASTIC, we enjoyed everything about the restaurant!Thank You
This place is lovely! I had the best chicken pot pie in my life there. I drove up from Denver for it. Affordable and delicious!
Great restaurant experience! We went to this lovely place and their staff was amazing! It’s dog friendly also, which is a HUGE bonus! The chicken pot pie was to die for!
My daughter and I decided to have lunch here and glad we did. Our first visit to Ginger and Baker and looking forward to coming back. Very friendly and helpful staff, and I definitely recommend you try it!
Unique experience with good food and outstanding service. Will definitely come back again. Had dinner at The Cache for our anniversary where Sarah, Alex and Joey made is feel like VIPs. Halibut was good, scallops were amazing. Dinner on the patio, nice ambiance. Toured the building and learned about some of the history of the building and the area.
We went to The Cache to celebrate a birthday and it was just okay. Based on the prices I expected the food, drinks, and service quality to be much higher. Other restaurants downtown FC like Bistro Nautile and Sonny Lubicks offer a better value for similar (or lower) pricing. The ambiance was nice, though, and they gave us a free slice of birthday pie, which was by far the best part of the meal.
Very cool interior, nice service.I thought they need a wider alcohol option but it is a cafe so fair enough. Loved it anyways.
Don’t waist your money on their pies, worst pie I ever tasted!!! The crust was a half inch thick and very tough! They’d be better off just buying pillsbury crust, at least it would be edible! My husband made me throw it away after 1st bite!!!
Great atmosphere, awesome waitstaff, Christian was great. My had the lamb, pricy but worth it, halibut was good. Highly recommend the Brussel sprout squash side dish. Oh yeah the bison carpaccio is a must order. Went down stairs for excellent cherry pie and a hot cider with vanilla crown royal. The staff in the bakery area were wonderful, going to be my must go to place in FoCo.
We enjoyed the food quite a lot. service was excellent, and the atmosphere/decor was casual and comfortable. The in-house shop was great. Did I mention the food? YEAH.
Our first experience at Ginger and Baker was wonderful! They were quick, attentive, and very safe when when serving us (mask, gloves, and recyclable menus to reduce the spread of germs).Staff was kind and the food was great! When we were done with our food, we walked inside to explore the shop. The head chef offered us a personal tour (out of the blue and totally unprompted) of the building. She proceeded to tell us all about the history of the building, the start of Ginger and Baker as we know it now, and so much more. It was so obvious that she really loves this establishment and her role in making it what it is today. Wonderful place, wonderful people, and a true gem of Fort Collins.10/10 would recommend :)
Very impressed with the design and function of the space. Dining rooms are comfortable and inviting. Outdoor spaces are perfect for warmer weather or sitting under the heat lamps when chilly. Teaching kitchen and bakery are nice touches. Wine cellar and tasting room was beautifully done. Food and service was fantastic. A must dine location for Fort Collins.
Incredible experience here! We enjoyed a perfect meal that included the pretzel app, plus dinner of the chicken pot pie and pesto squash pasta. Great quick service and fantastic food and portion size for low price. The cherry on top of the meal was a complete tour of the restaurant from the chef. She took the time to show us every corner of this gorgeous space and explain the history, architecture, and events going on. Can not wait to come back and try a cooking class, coffee, and spend more time in this beautiful historic building. 5 stars is not enough!
This place is a jewel if you’re looking to share a beautiful, delicious breakfast or lunch! Built in an old grain building — it has every modern amenity while still feeling the original country charm. My husband’s work took a group cooking class here, and you can also drop in on the “pie” side and get a fresh piece or sticky bun at the coffee bar. There is also a stunning restaurant upstairs called The Cache which is only open for dinner. Also- there is a LARGE private party room upstairs that resembles a castle room, and another private party room downstairs in the wine cellar. There is something for everyone and every budget at this location!
This place is really good. Out waitress wasnt the most attentive but she hooked me up with some of their cherry almond jam that is absolutely incredible! Their bloody Marys are amazing and The farm stand skillet was delicious and my boyfriend had the breakfast burrito that was also very good. We will definitely be returning in the future.
Food and service were great, patio was very nice. Make sure to get a slice of pie! Weve also done the cooking classes which are a blast!
=====***Top 5 in Fort Collins***=====This place was a real treat! The food was spectacular, the drinks were very special and very well mixed, and the server was really good at his job!My wife and I visited on date night, we don’t get as many as we used to so it’s a real bummer if a place is a dud; this place is in NO way a dud. Our food was served fast, was piping hot, and the kitchen was on point! Our sever was Collin and not only was he very helpful and courteous, he was able to keep in touch with us throughout our dinner but not be annoying in doing so. He was quick and efficient, our water cups were never empty, and I swear he didn’t stop moving for even a second. This guy is a real star, make sure you treat him right...definitely used his brain and cared about what he was doing; this is the type of person any place should want managing and mentoring others.Their whole team backed each other up, the manager was all hands on. I’ve not seen a place this well run in Fort Collins ever. Very well done! The beer menu is a little kolsh heavy. Needs more Odell :)We will be back, thanks for a fantastic date night you made it very special.
Patio for breakfast is a must, service was outstanding. Our server was funny and receptive to jokes and had a great attitude.Pie was beyond delicious, rhubarb strawberry with pecan crumble on top and the peanut butter chocolate vegan bombshell was like a reeses peanut butter cup but pie.Love there hardy breakfast plates as well, potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, bacon cooked right between chewy and crispy which is my favorite. Will definitely go back very soon, like probably tomorrow.
The food and the restaurant itself is really amazing! We were there for breakfast and really enjoyed ourselves. The service was a little on the slower side, and it wasnt the cheapest place to eat, but still well worth the visit.
Best experience I ever had at a restaurant/bakery/winery/shop all in one! The building has so much history and they kept that in mind when restoring and converting it into the beauty it is today. Deb, Martin and THE Ginger! were wonderful, and my husband I loved hanging out with them and getting to know them as friends right off the bat.
Ginger & Baker was an exceptional experience from the moment we came in the door. The avocado toast was so good and the pie was even better! The coffee bar was fun to look around and shop at and the upstairs Cache was an architectural treat to the eyes. Hands down our favorite restaurant in Fort Collins. We’ll be back for Eggs benedict!
Visiting from out of state and decided to stop in for brunch. Hands down the best brunch I’ve ever had. Ordered the sunset mule along with the biscuits and gravy with the breakfast potatoes. Breakfast potatoes were heavenly, I’m typically not a fan of breakfast potatoes but these were top notch. Our server Samantha was also fantastic, really friendly and great service. Hoping to be back to visit soon and hope she’s working again when I stop back in!
The atmosphere at Ginger & Baker is cozy and warm. They did such a great job maintaining the older parts of that building for a mix of country vintage style with a modern, industrial feel. They have a teaching kitchen to host cooking classes and workshops, two separate restaurants, beautiful event space, and a coffee shop! It is such a unique and special space and the pie is delicious! I highly recommend the banana cream pie!
Been waiting for them to bring back chocolate croissants and regular croissants for almost 2 years to no avail. What gives you guys? I know they’re more time consuming, but they always sold out. Just makes no sense to me. 🤷🏼♂️#bringbackthecroissants
Tried this place for the first time and I have no complaints. So good. They seem to always have a line but they still got my food to me very quickly. Employees were also very polite and made my morning even better. Will definitely come back
We went here last night as a treat; this has been on my top ten list of good food in Fort Collins. They had a grasp of how to put good ingredients together with the right combinations to complement each other and work together for a fantastic taste, similar to what I experienced in France. But tonight, it was all off. I ordered the fried chicken dish which has been hard to find good examples of in the past in Colorado and they had the best fried chicken Id had. This time though everything was changed...they went to a more cornmeal style breading with a decent amount of heat. The chicken itself was still decent under the breading, not dried out. But it just wasnt good.... They were really nice about it and wanted to get me something else but I wasnt trying to get a free meal. They told me they had a new chef, and that seems to be an issue. They gave me a serving of sausage gravy as a consolation, that I could have in the morning over bread. The biscuit was too hard to really eat so I did that over my own bread. The sausage gravy was really bad though...it has a 1/4 cap of grease solidified on the top and it was thin and runny, exceptionally salty, with heavy rosemary and lots of pepper. It just wasnt cooked right, like they didnt bother to do a proper roux. The seasonings werent in harmony like they were before. Im disappointed. Ill give them another shot and see if the food comes back to its previous level. BTW, this was for the Cafe, not the Cache. In a nutshell, excellent service, super friendly, accomodating, but the quality of the food has gone down at least for this one experience...the other times Ive gone and brought friends the food has been really quite excellent.
