Steve is a legend in Ft. Collins musicMy son and I would visit Harms and always be rewarded by a personal visit with Steve. My latest speaker purchase/gift from Harms leaves me with a smile on my face every day. delightful articulate and accurate sound. Always a joy to listen to harms speakers. My 2021 speakers continue to uphold the legacy of Harms and Ft Collins music excellence!
Genius or Lunatic? Depends which day you go shopping... but more often than not these days, you will catch the lunatic.... sad
Steve went out of his way to repair my Jeep radio. Fun guy and shop. Very knowledgeable!
Called into see if they do record player repairs, they do. Although I asked about my 1960s console record player and the owner says, I dont do consoles. Those were built for women to put in their homes because they look like furniture, Very misogynistic. I appreciate music and the console because its connected to a built-in sound system, not because its for show at my Tupperware parties. No useful advice was given. Do better, Harms Labs.
This might be one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a business. I brought my receiver to be repaired by Steve. It took over 6 months to fix, which at the time seemed ok since he was ordering a part that would take a while to come in. I was patient and hopeful that it would be fixed. When I finally received the “fixed” receiver I found that one of the channels wasnt even working. By that time I had already moved an hour away.I called him to let him know that it wasn’t fixed and needs to be brought back to him. He seemed like he was going to take care of it but little did I know that he was going to run me around for another YEAR. Each time I called he said it is on the table and will be fixed by the weekend. I wanted to trust him but after about 7 different calls over the year I realized he was lying to me. This guy was never going to fix my receiver. I think he expects people to just forget about their electronics. I honestly don’t know how this guy is still in business. To anyone looking to get vintage electronics repaired, please please do not go to Harms Labs. I would suggest bringing it to one of the more trusted businesses near Denver. The previous reviews similar are so on point it’s not funny.
Ive been going to Steve for a while as well like most of you guys. tried to get an amp repaired when he had no business at the first start of covid. Thats been about six months now no response nothing just keeps putting me back pushed back further and further. When I first went to him he told me it was an easy fix and would be ready in a week or two and wouldcost me about $80 I still have not received a call from him or anything I last spoke with him two months ago Im afraid to call him and be told to wait longer
Steve and staff know their stuff! very fair pricing on re foam of my speakers, and they have great sounding speakers!
I went here to fix my 1984 berlinetta camaro radio cassette player because it was local and Steve seemed like he had the knowledge to fix it. It needed a new belt everything else worked fine. When he called saying it was ready my radio no longer worked and he said it needed to be replaced. So I went from just needing a belt to a broken radio. He said he could get a refurbished one for 200 and I said fine. That was the last communication I had with him as he said it would be here next week that was months ago. I have been emailing and calling the store and have received no communication back. I have included screen shots of my emails. If you are unable to do the repair just say so dont keep saying next week next week. I am trying to get my radio back as it is a rare electronic car part.
I have used Harms Sound labs since the 90’s, when they actually had a nice store down on mason here in Fort Collins. I have watched this store go from being a nice Store to a trashy whole in the wall with cluttered audio equipment. Even with the store being trashy I have always been a faithful customer but I was turned away today by Steve Harms saying my car amp wasn’t worth repairing and I should just go by a new one. I am very disappointed by how I was treated today and can promise I will never be back and will let others know to stay away from Harms Sound Labs.
The only guy left I trust with my sound equipment.
Great shop. Fixed my Marantz receiver in a couple days. Real pleasure to deal with.
Steve has a great store! He has great products, but he is also super knowledgeable and helpful. I inherited a turntable from my dad that needed some work. Steve got it running wonderfully. He also took the time to show me how to operate it correctly. I will definitely be coming back anytime I need audio equipment or help!
They build really good speakers for better price than brand name speakers. The small speakers sound much bigger than size.
Ive had Harms Labs do emergency guitar amp repairs, planned modifications, and speaker repairs. Theyve never once failed to finish the job quickly and at a great price. Ive also had work done by other well known shops in Denver... none have come close to the quality, timeliness, or value of Harms. Id recommend them to anyone in the general area and its well worth your time to drive a distance to have them do the work.
I turned in a Martin Logan subwoofer to be fixed about 4-5 years ago. When I first turned in the sub, Steve did not as me anything about it just dove right in trying to find out what the issue was, which normally i would have no issue with this except the sub was on a manufacture warranty and he only found that out after he replaced parts and voided the warranty. Every time I have called Steve, I have always been told it will be ready by the next week. I have since just figured he sold it off for a profit somewhere and that is why its always not ready yet. I gave up trying to contact them when they consistently stopped calling me back. Luckily I hadnt paid him yet since it was never fixed or returned, but just a warning to anyone turning anything in, make sure you keep hounding them if you want your product back.
Ive had tremendous experiences working with the owner. His name is Steve, and hes been running the shop since the 70s, I believe. This man REALLY knows his electronics. The first time I got an amp repaired by him, it took him only about 30 seconds to diagnose the problem, and it was fixed by the end of the day. Then, when he explained the process hed taken to fix the problem, it became VERY evident that I was dealing with a master of his craft. He gave a laymans summary, and then gave the exact technical details. His prices are fair, he calls promptly when the work is done, and he has a great sense of humor, so hes definitely a pleasure to work with.Since I started using his services back in 2009 or so, Ive had him work on about 8 different pieces of gear, and each one has come back in pristine working order. A++ highly recommended.
Custom speakers that sound absolutely fantastic that are more affordable than anything I’ve ever seen! The guy working was nice enough to let us sit down and take a listen, and my friend and I (who are both musicians) were pretty impressed.
The team at Harms Sound Labs are awesome. Got a great deal on a car stereo and installations (installed stereo, 2 cameras, microphone, phone jack and auto-start in a new truck). Steve was knowledgeable and super friendly. I will use them again for my audio needs.
I would like to thank the folks at harms sound lab. They are always very pleasant and professional. Our church has had a couple of our sub woofers fixed here and they are great. I would highly recommend them and will come back. Thanks again.
Dont take products here for repairs.
Excellent service! Steve was very helpful and knowledgable about the equipment. His custom built speakers are BEAUTIFUL!!
Brief context: I got a new radio installed in my Audi by these guys a year ago. In that year, my car has been experiencing a cavalcade of electrical problems including battery power sapped out of nowhere, cold starts, and complete electric failure. Over $1500 in repairs/diagnostics later, I find that the radio they installed was wired to THE IGNITION and draining power at random. They CUT and repositioned the wiring instead of getting an attachment that was supposed to adapt the radio to the Audi. I know that Harms has a solid rep, so thats the single star. If you have a foreign vehicle, steer clear of these guys. Do not trust at all.
Steve is a great guy and is an expert in his craft. Highly recommend giving him a visit for any of your audio needs!
Great place to visit. Very good repair department. Fantastic speakers. Check them out.
This place is great! Ive been going there for years ( at least 18 yrs) and he has fixed everything Ive taken there. I dread the day Steve retires. There is no one else in this town that does what he does.
Called and was pretty rude. Ill take my business somewhere else. Interrupted me during talking he can shove it.
Amazing service! Steve is very kind and helpful. These guys know what theyre doing and I would recommend them to everyone.
Forget best buy and car toys. Best prices and service in town by a long shot.
Colton and Shawn installed a new audio system in my health club expansion area and re-worked current speakers. Excellent job!
Absolute amazing service. Took my 95 Trans am here and definitely was worth my time. Great products at a great price. Very trustworthy guy. My dad went to Steve 20 years ago and I would continue going to him for any audio service I need done. Was very pleased with my system. He installed 2 12 Rockford Fosgate P2s, pioneer speakers, and a pioneer 7 deck. I plan on taking him my new Scion tC at the end of this month for a new system. I would recommend Harms Sound Labs to anyone. Blows Quality auto sound and Car toys out of the water.
I have an automotive store. Steve has helped me with a wide variety of electronics. Great Guy! Great Service!
Harms Sound Lab is an EXCELLENT choice to buy, or install car audio equipment. Steve (the owner) has 40+ years of experience regarding electrical engineering and the physics of sound, he also CARES (KEY!!). He charged me $150 on a project that car toys had estimated at $300+ and he showed me how car toys royally botched their previous install on my car. It was bad. After the install he spent an hour talking to me about eq settings, amp gain, vehicle resonance, crossover settings, EVERYTHING.I am in no way associated with Harms except for being highly impressed with the level of service.Just because I try to share knowledge the Car Toys in Fort Collins is the worst business I have ever been unfortunate enough to deal with. Go to Steve!
Harms Labs in Ft Collins 5 Star all the way. They put a pair of 10 inch subwoofers in my pickup it sounds incredible. I will always go to Harms Labs they are a blessing to me.
What a nice man. He knows his stuff. Planning on heading in there again today.!
Dont waste your time getting quotes from places like best buy or car toys - they will rip you off. These guys will install a new bluetooth smart stereo for $150 to $180 and that is installed, mounted, parts, labor - everything. You will be hard pressed to even get the unit itself for that at the big box stores.Want a touch screen, dvd player, with backup camera - $275 out the door. Your talking $650+ at any other place. And they are awesome people - they remember your name when you walk in the door. I think you can tell from all their amazing reviews this is the place for you!
He is so nice, the guy that put a review of 1 star must be a nut job because harm is sooo freekin nice!! i got my guitar amp fixed by him. I dont drive. So he had a guy come pick it up and drop it off! he also gave me a free cable so i could start playing right away..6 Stars!!
Harm is a great guy. I showed up an hour before he opened and he still helped me with my car amp. The amp turned out to be blown but he still checked my subwoofers and car wiring all free of charge. I highly recommend this business.
My wifes Toyota Camry has the on-board GPS nav/Bluetooth phone/radio/CD player. After 5 years it went on the fritz. I took it to the Toyota dealership to see about getting it fixed. They said the unit was bad and needed to be replaced. $2,400.00, we didnt need it that bad. Mark, at A & B Auto suggested I talk to Steve Harms. He looked it over and thought that the problem was with the CD drive for the map CD. It was, he fixed it for $300.00. Smart with integrity, long time local business, how can you beat that?
I own a porsche 911 turbo and wouldnt take it anywhere else, they did a great job, affordable, professional and follow up care is on point. Thanks a bunch guys!
Very knowledgable, excellent car audio install, has repaired many of my hi-fi items over the years. I trust Steve - honest, dependable, cost-effective, and extremely talented. Great hi-fi repair shop.Updated 2/16/21 - now also selling high quality speakers at competitive prices - no high pressure sales, designs to fit every budget, and wonderful service. Appreciate the experience and problem solving solutions of Steve and his staff. Highly recommend.
My wife got me a set of their Flagship custom speakers for my 40th!! My wife rocks, but that is beside the point :)!! Colton was super cool and helped deliver these to my car for an epic surprise. These speakers rock! The sound is second to none and you owe it to yourself to swing by and listen to them. I was running into trouble with my amp, turntables, and mixer and didnt feel like my set up was pushing these to their potential. Steve sent Colton and Dan up and they hooked it up. They brought up a brand new amp, went over all my equipment and got my set up dialed in. Highly recommended. If you hear a faint rumble from the mountains, its not thunder but me rocking out instead!! Kudos guys!!
Called today to ask if they sale any subwoofer parts so I can repair the surround foam on my sub cause a guy referred them to me cause he said they repair speakers well the guy that I was talking to was Steve and right off the bat he was being rude and had a attitude I had asked how much of a repair would be and he just sounded very rude basically like he wasnt in the moods to talk to anyone and that was with any questioned I had asked I just said its alright cause I was just gonna do it my self and he straight up said well you can go home and fix it your self then with nothing but attitude and hung up and I wasnt even saying anything in a rude way and trust me I wanted to say something to him but I didnt but if he wasnt being rude from the beginning from the questions I was asking I would of been more then happy to go in and let them do it so I didnt have to order the foam online and wait longer but nothing but straight up bad customer service from this guy hopefully the rest of the staff is more polite and professional over there
Steve has always been great for repairs on equipment, but he just saved me $200 over what the ripoffs at Best Buy wanted to purchase and install a car stereo. Thank you Steve!!!
Steve and his team at Harms Sound Lab have been nothing short of exceptional. I have had him work on several vehicles for the dealership I work for fixing issues every other audio shop had given up on.Most recently I had Steve and Colton install Sonos throughout my house, they did a custom install on each speaker making it look perfect.Harms sound lab is highly recommenced
Very nice, extremely knowledgeable and able to handle anything you could think of regarding audio and video either home or auto. I dont trust anyone else top handle this for me.
Love these guys, they are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly
Those two dudes did a great job, were nice, professional and cleaned up their mess too!
Steve has been nothing short of being fair and honest.I had a harman kardon receiver to blow a channel and he had it back to me in less than three or four days. The receiver sounds and performs as good as new. I had him to rebuild my Bose 901 speakers and he did a good job and very reasonable. The one has a slight buzz, but im sure thats an issue that will be dealt with. I feel that once he knows the problem he can and will fix it. I will hate to see him retire for I will have to find someone else to work on my electronics. He will be greatly missed and hope someone there can step into his big shoes and continue where he leaves off.
Steve and his crew have worked on several high end vintage and rare music gear pieces I own as well as Studio gear I have, and I swear by his service as being the best and his techs are erudite and highly skilled in electronic repair and installations of any kind as well. Steve is my go to guru for fixing anything that is live performance gear or my high end home studio gear or Audio gear of any kind. Just recently repaired a Mackie HR824 studio monitor for me and did so and completed the repair in one week as well as went through a Orange AD5 tube amp for me. Outstanding professionalism in my opinion! Im getting ready to have Harms Audio Labs do a total re-outfit and high end parts boutique refit of a 96 first gen Fender Hot Rod Deluxe I own and re-tube and bias my vintage 89 JCM900 4102 combo amp. Nobody does it better in quality pro work in a timely fashion than Steve and his guys.....OoooooooooooRahhhhhhhhhhh! for Harms Audio Labs from a Nam vet and pro working musician!RJ ReidPro Live and Studio Working MusicianEaton Colorado
It is important to note that I am an audio professional. I have been making records as a Producer and Engineer for about 15 years. In all this time I have never met a tech who knows less about pro audio gear than Steve does.Initially I brought some gear down to the shop that needed some work (Universal Audio LA5 Compressor, Lexicon PCM60 Reverb Unit, Fender Champ Guitar Amp, SansAmp Classic Bass Guitar Pedal and a Custom 4x 4-Band Equalizer set made by a defunct company called Westar). The Champ & PCM60 came back quickly and in great shape. A good start! The LA5 came back weeks later in a state that has undoubtedly caused devaluation. He glued or epoxied the meter bridge in place instead of purchasing a new meter. He also replaced one of the metal switches with a cheap plastic switch that doesnt even switch! It just gets stuck. This is amateur work at best and I would have happily paid for the parts needed to do the job right. Why Steve chose to use cheap parts and jerry rig the meter bridge is completely beyond me.The guitar pedal I brought to him was working fine but not passing signal in bypass mode. I explained this to him and when I got it back fixed it was completely opposite! The pedal would pass signal in bypass mode but would not pass signal when switched on. I brought it back two or three times and each time he would call and say it was ready, Id get it back to the studio and nothing had changed. Every time I brought it back he told me it was working and I must be crazy. I asked him each time to demonstrate to me the pedal in a working scenario but he refused to show me the pedal in a proper set up even though each time he told me they had it working in the shop. The Equalizer has been the most annoying part of this process. As I stated it is a custom build so I have to assume that it will take time to fix. No problem there! I just want it done right. The first time I brought it home two of the four equalizers were not working (receiving no power). I brought it back and explained this to him. Some weeks or months later he told me it was OK to come down and pick it up, Its working. I brought it back to the studio, plugged it in and found that two of the four equalizers were still not powering on. So, I brought it back again. About two months went by and numerous phone calls. At this point Steve is no longer taking my calls or returning them. So, I went down to the shop again and hes got pieces of the equalizer spread all over the office. He explains that three of the four equalizers are now working but the forth has a pot that got bumped and bent. This he blames me for. He refuses to take the blame for broken pot. This is baffling since I havent had the equalizer in my possession for more than 48 hours out of the last 8 months or so. His shop is a mess, there are multiple employees and my gear is all over the place. How can he possibly know that it didnt happen at his shop? Baffling.. Anyway, I leave it at the shop again hoping that he will simply fix it this time so I can move on. Four weeks go by. I call and leave a message. Two more weeks go by so I decide to go down to the shop to pick up my remaining gear and wash my hands. While I am in the shop Steve gets increasingly agitated and keeps telling me my expectations are too high. This makes no sense! Either the gear is fixed or it is not.At the end of the conversation Steve literally threatened me with physical violence in his store in front of another customer. You should leave with your gear before I do something I am going to regret.Steve Harms is NOT a tech. I am sure he knows how to install a car stereo and replace a tube in a guitar amp but if you have any complicated electronics do not trust this man with them! He doesnt know what he is doing and instead of simply admitting that something is beyond him he will drag it out, stop answering your calls and ultimately do nothing about the issue after charging you for his time.
Steve is the man! Cant go wrong with any of your audio needs at Harms, he is extremely brilliant when it comes to sound. I was installing a new sound system in my 2500 HD GMC and i needed something that sounded clear, crisp and loud, im a dj after all and require my sound to be perfect. Steve did not let me down, he quoted me 700$ cheaper than car toys plus got a much better deck out of the deal that included Bluetooth and hands free capability for my phone, had the parts overnighted and installed the very next day. I dropped my truck off at noon and had it back when i got off work at 6, he even offered to loan me a vehicle if i needed it. I did have to go back the next day to have some spacers put in my rear doors cause the speakers were to big! Bigger the better they always say ;) He even tuned the system to sound perfect and showed me how to operate everything. Stand up guy, if i ever have any more audio needs ill be calling Harms! Thanks again!
The Best Car Stereo Installer in Ft.Collins, I shopped around.I got a Pioneer double din stereo, with Bluetooth, Cd, Dvd, steering wheel controls and back-up camera plus a pair of Pioneer 6x9 speakers installed for $650.00.compared to CARTOYS wanted to sell me just a Bluetooth stereo,cd player, hooked to the steering wheel for $507.00 out the door they told me THATS A GREAT DEAL.So for $150.00 more, I got a DVD player and a BACK-UP Camera and a PAIR of 6x9 Pioneer speakers, SWEET.Only at Harms, Corner of HARMONY AND SUMMIT VIEW kiddy corner from THE SUN DANCE SALOON in the blue buildings.I just wanted anyone reading this, to know, I had back surgery and cant get around very well, Steve Harms had a guy bring me home while they installed everything and picked me up when done with it, with no waiting around, Was absolutely the BEST SERVICE in FT.COLLINs period.
Steve was a serious jerk. No advice what so ever. Kinda guy who cant help without some money in hand. Just had a question about installation and because there was no transaction, he would not help.
I am going to give only one star because the manager of the store hung up on me when we were talking on the phone. I went there to have my headphones fixed and he was busy. He asked me to drop my headphones off on Thursday so that I can get them the same day. When I called him on Thursday, he was rude to me and said I have to be in line, and he hung up on me in the middle of the conversation.
Friendly and very knowledgeable.
Bad customer service response. Estimated repair at a week, then five weeks went by with no contact.
This man is a lifesaver! Has helped me for over 30 yrs with projects, expert and priced fair!!
If its sound systems you need Steve Harms is the guy
Steve Harms is such a great guy and really knows his stuff.
This guy knows everything
