Ive been shopping here for years. This by far the best hardware store in DFW. I only go to a big box store now as a last resort. Very helpful staff, great prices on big ticket items (especially their Weber grills - I got one for hundreds less than the best online price I could find; assembly and delivery was included in the price!). Great selection of hard to find fasteners and stainless hardware. All that and free popcorn!
Ive never been in here when I wasnt offered near immediate help finding something. Their help is brisk, though. Its more of a the-thing-youre-looking-for-is-on-this-aisle kind of help and then they disappear. The hours of operation though are more for the owners benefit than their customers which seems counter intuitive when it comes to running a customer oriented business. But they get home to have dinner with their family and theres something to that. It does remind me, though, of when I was living in France and everything was slightly inconvenient to folks - like me - who worked during the day. Whos going to the hardware store on a Tuesday at 8:45AM?The stores small, the selection is limited and theyre definitely not competing on price. For a family business, theres not much charm to it nor is the service anything to brag about. It meets very basic needs at a convenient location if you live in the area and happen to be available when the store is open.
Stopped in today looking for a tiny washer and screw to repair a broken handle on my one of a kind purse I bought in New York. I left it with a leather repair place for over two weeks and they couldnt fix it. Not only did David, at Groom and Son Ace Hardware, find a screw and washer, but he offered to fix it for me right there! When he had finished, he pointed out that it did not match the other three screws and he offered to replace them all so they would match. For 80 cents, I have my purse back! While I waited, I shopped and found some wonderful stocking stuffers. I will be back.
The gentleman who helped us as we walked in the door and matched paint for us was excellent! I went there because they sold Benjamen Moore paint. Since we were using the paint for touch up and not a full paint job; he recommended a mid priced paint and did not try to up sell us. I ended up buying the most expensive paint anyway because thats what my family recommended to me. This is the first time i had paint matched and its perfect. You cannot even tell where we touched up.
Good place, good people, very good selection for a store its size, they understandably charge a little bit more per item than your big hardware stores, but I live around the corner and walk there for my small projects.
Bad customer service. I like supporting smaller businesses, and this store is about the same distance from my house as Home Depot, but the people working the front are pretty damn unfriendly. Been in there twice now since moving to Garland, and both times were unpleasant. Its a small Ace too, so its not like they have a lot to offer. The only reason I would go back is if Im already driving to that area.
Love it! They were out of the canning jars I wanted, but offered to order more for me -- no charge, and was super easy. They were nice, helpful and offered just the right amount of advice!
Great service. Superb Christmas light selection every year.
This is the best hardware store in the metroplex. I drive out of my way to shop here, and bypass 2 mega home improvement chains along the way.
Store closed and vacant 05/20/2016. Another casualty of the big box...
