My favorite coffee shop in Grand Forks. I love this place for the atmosphere almost as much as I do for the coffee and food. Good selection of baked goods and coffee drinks. Also really good smoothies. Its one of my favorite places to do homework or catch up with friends. I cant stress how much I love The Ember!
Out of town from Chicago and I wanted to creep away to get some work done and grab a quality cup of coffee. This place did not disappoint 👌. They do manual brewing and there is a quality selection of baked goods as well. Also, there are tons of seats and plenty of outlets!
I visit the Ember fairly regularly as part of a regular get together. The staff are always friendly and the owners are kind enough to allow us to use their side room for events. The atmosphere is cozy, with a surprising amount of seating space on the inside. If you are looking for coffee downtown, The Ember is worth visiting.
This is the perfect, cozy coffee shop! Whether youre wanting you trade some time to yourself or getting together with friends. The Ember doesnt have that rushed feeling like other chain coffee shops.
My experience at the Ember was perfect. I arrived with snot frozen to my face, compliments of North Dakotas weather. I needed to warm up. Simply put I looked like a mess, but was treated with dignity and respect. Once my eyeballs thawed, I noticed a friend sitting there and asked if I could sit down. I felt a little awkward because I never know if they are just being polite or truly want me to sitdown. Not having much money, God helped me get a cup a coffee. The coffee was warm and somehow began to warm my insides, while my extremities continued to tingle. I liked the decorations, and the lighting. There are amazing things to read, and cool little books and pamphlets that I enjoy so that I learn about Grand Forks. Most importantly, I knew I was right where I was supposed to be. THANKS.
Nice coffee shop work with different non-profit org each month. Have veriaty of drinks that you can not have else where. And nice people as well!
Cool quaint not-for-profit coffee shop run by a church. Great place to study nice people!
I wasnt impressed neither by the service nor by the variety and the quality of the coffee. The coffee was left at the counter for a while and we were supposed to figure out if had been made. The sandwiches were very basic and cold similarly to the drinks. Im giving it 3 stars only because Im not sure if there is a better spot in Grand Forks. In Fargo we encountered much higher level spots for the same price.
Friendly staff. Great place to lounge and read a book. Cheap prices. Wish they had the carrot cake that I had a few months ago. It was tasty and yummy. I highly recommend
Really enjoy the Ember for their: consistently satisfying espresso and chai drinks, welcoming baristas (whom I believe are largely volunteer; a credit to training), ample seating, discounted Oh for Heavens Cakes muffins, fresh waffles, and fellowship.
Really awesome gem of downtown Grand Forks. Comfortable seating inside and out, great coffee and tea choices, and really tasty meals and treats. Second story seating makes it easy to find a table for 2 or for bigger groups as well. If you like music this is the place for you. Local talent comes weekly. Give it a try, you wont be disappointed!
Good place to come and work on homework, even with kids. Upstairs has a nice Lego table for them to plug away at while you work (or to distract yourself with). Its owned by the next door church, but nothing about being here really reminds you of that fact, which is nice.Overall a good place to be. Coffee isnt too bad either.
Awesome! Wonderful atmosphere. Good drinks. Enjoyed playing board games while drinking our iced coffee
Great coffee. Staff could be a little more attentive but could have just been an off day for the barista. Nice atmosphere.
Awesome, cozy place to meet friends. Good coffee and love the waffles! Friendly staff and good service!
Good atmosphere. Nice staff. The waffles are good.
We absolutely love The Ember! From their cozy loft with a Lego table for our kids, to their live music and delicious coffee and waffles. Whats not to love about this place? All of the baristas are volunteers, and they do such a good job! Its mine, my husbands, and our kids favorite spot to eat, play and hangout!
The Ember is an awesome place. It is very peaceful and cozy. I go there to have coffee and work on my tablet. A lot of friends from Freedom church are there too. Good conversation.
I love this place! The coffee is great, and it is super cool that most of the staff are volunteers. The live music on Fridays is a lot of fun. Customers come for drinks and also to hear local musicians. Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm are my favorite times at The Ember. A bunch of people come with their guitars, mandolins, banjos, bass guitars (and U basses), and voices to make music. Bluegrass, old country, mountain music, etc. It is lovely.(I met my, now, husband here)
The best quality coffee in town. Many delicious bakery items, sandwiches, and waffles. Beautiful venue with a variety of seating. If you havent already, check this place out.
Pedro best waiter they have! Love this place defiantly would recommend.
A great place for both social networking and quiet concentration. The atmosphere is friendly and pleasant, and theres more than enough seating so you can find a quiet corner if you prefer. The barista made good recommendations and fixed a good beverage.
I love the ember! Its a great atmosphere and a great place to focus on getting some work done. The staff is great too and there are great people to talk with when youre there. Highly recommended!
Great coffee, neat atmosphere! Only thing they could brush up on is being more knowledgeable about the coffee, but i think its volunteer baristas so thats understandable. Good experience tho, youll like it!
Great atmosphere. Wonderful friendly barista. Games, legos for kids. Relaxing with tables and couches
Coffee was fine. Atmosphere was pretty relaxed. Service wasnt the best because the cashier didnt really talk to us about what was what.
Cozy atmosphere. Great for studying, getting coffee with friends, or just relaxing. They often have live music, and theres a little play area upstairs for kids.
It was fun. It’s so cozy. The barista‘s are so friendly and helpful. The place is amazing it’s like stepping into history.
Great coffee and even food treats. Loft...so cool!! Great atmosphere..
I love the atmosphere, the staff have always been great, and the coffee/treats are really tasty.
This place is so great! Amazing, knowledgeable baristas, serving up great drinks. Oh and they always contribute a portion of all their profits to a different non-profit every month.
Is a relaxing place and people are friendly and all doing their things!!! The Batista for coffee selections was very cheerful and knowledgeable!!!
This place is very cozy and accommodating to different groups within town. I’m not the best judge of coffee, but I’ve liked the drinks I’ve bought.
Hipster coffee shop. Great place to study. Very homey atmosphere.
Best atmosphere! Coffee menu rocks. Smoothies and matcha lattes are other favorites of mine. And they are such an amazing contribution to the community!
The Ember is Grand Forks best coffee shop. Warm staff with a comfortable environment in downtown GF mixed in with live music! My favorite is their Kyoto slow drip coffee.
Great ambiance, more importantly! Great coffee and speedy service!
Has awesome drinks and the atmosphere is really cool!!! Enjoy going here with friends😊
Great little coffee shop to chat or get some work done.
Great place to catch up with colleagues. Very nice customer service. Access to internet and comfortable place to be. Just love it
This is a non profit coffee place. The baristas are always very friendly and pleasant without being intrusive. Their main goal is to serve the community.
Friendly service and reasonable prices.
Great local non-profit coffee shop with fresh roasted beans. Friendly service, variety of seating, and cheapest prices in town.
Clean. Good product. Non profit. Christian type atmosphere. Welcoming
Very nice place to bring a friend to. Nice and friendly stuff and the prices are so good
When you get to it, the beverages are ok. However, the people who work/volunteer there do not give a damn about customers. The guy was discussing his tips from last night at a different establishment instead of taking my order. After about 5 minutes, I left. Maybe it is because it was Sunday morning, but whatever the reason, I was pretty much ignored and refused service. Thank you.
A very new generation millennial vibe. People are friendly
Great place to get coffee downtown. Quiet and enjoyable atmosphere.
Full disclosure: I volunteer here. That said, I chose to volunteer here because the Ember makes the best espresso-based drinks in town. If you love good coffee and a comfy atmosphere, this is the place for you. If you know the difference between a Starbucks macchiato and a real macchiato or have ever uttered the phrase single-source bean, this is definitely the place for you.
Perfect for talking to someone! Or just quiet time for you to relax and bring a laptop or book!
I love to get the berry acai smoothie and the chocolate chip waffles are to die for!
Great coffee. Even better waffles!
Love this place its my favorite studying place. And the waffles are awesome!!

This place has it all: a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, great drinks, and a community minded conscience.
Great coffee! Great place and very friendly.
Great place except for the homeless people who hangout outside.
Good Christian Shop quite calm atmospher
Volunteer Baristas serving Con Panna? My kind of place. My only critique is that the roasts need to be more acidic, because they dont cut through milk or sweeteners. Nit-pickiness aside, this is an awesome place.
Yes n Thank u Jesus Amen.
Great service, long wait time
Atmosphere was nice, coffee was good.
Service was great. Muffin was delicious
