Really happy with the staff and the selection at this supermarket. Truly the best in the local area.
Strip steaks are on sale you got me😍.Quick friendly cashier. Everything bagged correctly.
My wife has been seeing a specialist in Milford and getting an operation at YNHH. Staying in Guilford is a treat thanks to this Big Y. A wide variety of processed food, great prepared food, a fine deli counter. Everything you need in a good grocery store. Very clean and great staff, too. Very, very, very glad we found this store. (Yes, Guilford has many fine restaurants but often its been late or we just want to have lunch in our car looking out over the Sound.)Oh, forgot to mention the good handicapped parking and wide aisles.
Always live that store! Always find everything I need & more. Friendly staff!
Decent looking store inside but they need to change their bottle recycling center rules. I speak from experience as Ive been a Service Clerk and handled bottle machines. They currently close down the recycling area completely from 1-2 pm. This is at a time when the machines are in high demand due to lack of other areas being open for recycling. They should simply clean them for 15 minutes before opening hours and after closing, in addition to short 5-10 minutes cleaning during mid day and perhaps afternoon.
This grocery store is clean, with plenty of space to walk around to find what you need, tons of variety and extremely helpful staff!
In my opinion, Overpriced for comparable products. Some limited sale items. Overall better if you shop elsewhere if possible. but they do have friendly employees!
The store is well stocked and kept clean. Friendly staff. Good prices as well. Located on the Post Rd with plenty of parking.
Love their produce dept...but best of all is their FISH!!WE ALWAYS BUY OUR FISH HERE...ITS SUPERB!
This particular BIG Y is small compared to others however the service was stellar.
Nice clean store. People are nice
A good supermarket with decent prices and helpful staff. Our preferred store for groceries. They and the customers that I saw were all wearing masks and being careful to stay the appropriate distances from each other. We are glad to have a place to go where everyone is working to keep each other safe. Our thanks to the staff for being there for all of us.
John damjanovich the manager. Totally unprofessional. Rude. And inconsiderate.I shopped for my family. We live in an area that got hammered by the storm. No power next day I realized my food would all go bad so I brought it in to return it. Obviously their refrigerators are running. Everything I bought to return was in stock.John refused to accept my items. All items are now bad. He belittled me and told me I should have my husband do a better job. I guess preventing a power outage. Not sure what he meant but it was insulting and disgusting and sexist. Then he told me to go to stop in shop. Literally.I dont think I have EVER left a professional establishment feeling so mistreated and personally attacked. My husband and I contacted corporate after this situation, and thankfully big y understood and apologized for Johns actions. I will continue to shop at big y. Thanks for listening to your customers big y!
This is one of my favorite grocery stores. It is close to where my daughter lives and I shop there when I can. The produce is always fresh and well stocked, and the fish department is full of fresh fish. I asked if their shrimp had been filled with the goo stuff that some providers inject into their shellfish to plump them up and make them larger. The fish guy knew right away what I was talking about...tri poly phosphates, and said that they did not and would not carry such items. Very impressive!!! The only problem is that certain items are not well stocked on the shelves but I guess that is more related to Covid panic buying than anything else.
Everything and great prices for all your food needs.
Old Saybrook Staff are professional and courteous, not so at this location
Its a nice big Y but the parking lot seems very cramped
I usually love Big Y but this time it was a disappointment. We used the deli to get two sandwiches and they were tasteless, the lettuce smelled stale and the chicken nuggets in one of the sandwich were hard like they were a couple days old.
Buy Y in North Haven or Guilford CT never disappoints they always have what I need & the staff is always courteous
I love this place they have such great baked goods and breads.
Pros* Beautiful store. Big Ys are usually nicer than their counterparts.* Excellent sales. While they can be expensive, their sales are way better than Stop & Shops.* The best single beer selection I have seen in a grocery store.Cons* Terrible customer service in literally every location. I have wondered why it is so bad in every location despite their stores being so beautiful. Surely, judging from the beauty of the stores, they can pay their employees a fair wage? Nope. Big Y employees are paid dog s**t, and it shows. Ive been heckled, followed from their store by employees, spoken about by employees right in front of me, and completely ignored when I need help or to say something.* They pay most of their employees horrible wages. Sometimes there are weird wage discrepancies too. When my girlfriend worked in the deli and pizza section of the Guilford Big Y she was paid $11 an hour, like almost everyone else there. On the other hand, one employee with managerial experience was paid $15 an hour despite performing the same level of work. I understand paying someone more for their higher level of experience, but you have to actually use that experience.
Love Big Y. They have great food. I usually get a party pizza from there. Nice employees and great inventory.
Freshly made sea food for you, if you are planning to eat or takeout. Reasonable prices. Great Pizza and soups options with economical prices.Always fresh vegetables. Every week has some good deals on vegetables, fruits and dairy items.Nice and very friendly staff.
Home Sweet Home for All our Grocery Shopping Needs
Love this store they always have what Im looking for. Love the fresh salad bar, sushi and soups you can grab and go. Staff super nice. The only thing I dont like is the parking lot.
Awesome service.. very helpful
Fish and Chips dinner is tops for quality, freshness and value...
Found everything I needed. The store was clean, had one-way aisle markings and the store personnel were helpful and friendly.
Me and a sports group from my school raided money for our local food bank. Using this money we traveled down to big y and started cleaning up the shelves, I mean really emptying them. Like a vampire in a blood bank we went crazy, filling up cart after car, bag after bag and when all was said and done, they did not complain. They were welcoming of us, we backed up lanes and blocked off isles but they did not care. They even opened up a whole new lane just for us and the manager spent time helping us bag and was really nice about it. They made our work seem really worth it and were very helpful, thank you!
Do yourself a favor go here.
Very clean and clearly organized. Aisles are nicely marked for one way.
The manager working today on September 7, 2020. Sorry I don’t remember his name. Went above and beyond, I had a problem and he immediately fixed it. I’ve always said mistakes are made a company response to the mistake is what matters, big Y Guilford hit a homerun today
In the past 2 weeks, I have noticed some people without masks that are not distancing. Plus, its very hard to go around the long lines at the check out. I think people should not be allowed to be in the store without a mask. Also, there should be a limit on the number of people allowed in the store at one time. It was chaos when I was there on Tuesday in Guilford. The poor employees were working as hard as they could but there were so many people there. I would appreciate it if Big Y would help with this.
I always shop here!
What is not to love about the best grocery store
Always great service, fresh produce, variety of choices and great prices.
This store is tied with Fresh Market for highest prices. Its a small(ish) store with limited selections. The produce is way overpriced. The most frustrating thing is their coin system. You only get the discounts if you are a member and/or have one of their gold or silver coins. Its annoying beyond belief. At least Stop & Shop lets you get their sale prices by selecting forgot my card. You shouldnt have to be in a club to get sale prices. Its the most High School nonsense!
Went here to get cheese danishes and the were all out and the bakery department workers made me four more which were delicious. They also rang us out at the counter when they were ready AND my boyfriend forgot his phone there and they kept it safe and sound until we came back. 10/10 amazing place and people
Absolutely, ridiculously overpriced on everything. After today, I will never shop here again. I give one star only because yes - the employees are always very nice and the seafood counter is far superior in comparison to the other local market. Doesnt make up for the outrageous prices on everything.
Im always buying my Friday night sushi here. Its your classical Big Y with an eating. Court. In the back theres a sushi and pizza place linked together. The only problem is its hard to distinguish whos working at the sushi place and whos at the pizza place. Other than that and that the whole place is cold sometimes, its your classical Big Y
Very nice staff . expensive
At check out they are selling small boxes of face mask for 39.95 lets say $40. I said to the supervisor if it was my store I would be ashamed because they are not worth 40 dollars so being a wise gut he say well its not your store well I shop here all the time. But Ill tell you this no mre. I dont shop a stores that gouge the public. See ya later wise guy.
Main door closed, no hand baskets, no Promise Margarine, no discount w/o Big Y card - wont be going back.
Very clean and very helpful. The seafood clerk was all smiles. I appreciated his attitude it made my day.
Super clean.
Love this store. Beats Stop and Shop on every level. Friendliness of employees, selections, and price. Absolute best fresh reasonably priced seafood of any grocery chain store. Keep up the good work!
Its a nice grocer. Friendly, helpful staff. Prices are good.
Very organize place and clean
So I drove to Big Y at 12:45pm on Thanksgiving to grab some last minute things and they were CLOSED! They had the AUDACITY to give their employees the holiday off to spend w/ their families! How unAmerican can you be to turn down profits because you respect your employees and treat them like human beings! Now I have to drive to Stop $ Shop in order to find a company greedy enough to force their staff to work in a day that should be devoted to family and giving thanks! Thank goodness at least SOME stores care more about making a buck then giving their employees the day to enjoy like everyone else Good job Bug T. My craisins arent that important
Only major grocery store in town. Prices are usually higher than Stop & Shop. The staff is friendly. Its convenient.Added 4/5/2021The best solution is not for ME to join your efforts. The better solution would be for Big Y to offer more reasonable pricing to begin with.
The food is always freshly rotated, and a great selection of fine foods. Also, the employees and managers are so nice and helpful, Ive never once had an issue with anyone while shopping here-- and because we live so close I go almost daily with my 2 small children.
I tried their Lobster Roll (from their seafood counter) on a whim--its available Fridays Saturdays Sundays, and it was actually one of the best Ive ever had for 12$. So, you know, thats something. Their seafood counter is pretty good in general, but then again we are on the coastline in Connecticut.
Nice and clean and reasonable prices. Staff seem friendly enough. Fast lanes. Able to do self check outs with no problems.
Great customer service and oysters!!!
Just has the worst shopping experience. Issues with computer recognizing and processing payments. Supervisor was disrespectful and arrogant. He Should not be in a customer service position.
Not happy of the in and out arrangement of the store, I have very bad knees and I am elderly,I wanted to buy ice cream which was on the side you couldnt go in, had to park near the other door to go in, walk across the whole store, knees killing me and then across the whole parking lot to get back to my car, knees hurting, I realize they did what they felt was best for their customers, but it wasnt for me
Love this place
The meat is always cheap the employees are always friendly
With each trip I make to Big Y, I become a bigger fan. This specific location has a great variety and helpful staff. Im also grateful that theyre open late after a busy day when you just need to grab dinner.
They have a great selection of grocery products, meat, and the guys are very attentive. Gets crowded but lines move faster!
The workers didnt know what they were doing, I had to go to 4 different registers and 3 employees to then leave
I shop at both Big Y and Stop & Shop. Big Y has better prices on some things and Stop & Shop has better prices on others. I found the buy 1 get 1 deals this week at Big Y were not such a great deal :(
Helpful and friendly staff
Enjoy the various made in store gourmet delights, above average produce and clean, friendly atmosphere; be sure to get the Big Y silver card for discounts.
Great store, could be a bit cheaper but the quality makes up for it I suppose.
Great sales, great and helpful people. Baggers should be trained better, my bags were way too heavy. Bags are thin and broke simply putting them in the trunk. Ive learned to check my receipts - probably 50% of the time an item or two are improperly priced in their favor. They are willing to fix the issue when you return on your next visit, but too often I misplace the receipt.
Its the only grocery store in Guilford. Big Ys prices have always been more than competitors however it is close so it gets most of my business. It is possible to get in and out quickly when you just need a few items. It is my grocery store.
I havent been up north in 15 years, but it was nice to see Big Y had cleaned up a bit. Very clean. Staff offered help, even when it was not needed. Id go back.
Nothing is really different than any other store. But this is my local place. They do seem nicer...
Its the only only only place I shop. They have more deals that you cant pass up. Love it
Good variety of produce, meats, bakery goods and general supermarket offerings. Pleasant atmosphere, self service checkout and weekly specials.
Bottle return was a nightmare. Only 1 person allowed at a time and they allowed a man and woman with a truck full of bottles to dominate the return area. I returned home with my bottles and cans. Need to do away with bottle bill and allow regularcrecycling.
This store is a few blocks from me. Of the big three here in the East it us middle priced. Aldis and Shop Rite still have you beat.
Nice clean Supermarket with a great variety of goods. Everyone was professional and polite.
Quality food. Good pricing, great deals. Excellent fish counter.
Nice grocery store, but high prices. Its roomy with wide aisles.
Always great!
Big store with a lot of food. Clean, fast lines Who could ask for more.
Have been going to the supermarket since before it was Big Y and the two markets before it, always kept clean with a great variety of new food!
Good spot for lunchThey have tables to sit atSandwiches made when you order them
Place was amazing vast selection n great prices n discounts with membership
The place is nice, the parking is tighhhht (too small)
Great store. Clean, knowledgeable employees and good selection for a mid-sized store.
We used to shop here a lot but not anymore. There is nothing wrong with the place, we just prefer stop and shop
Very clean and lits if fresh fruits and vegetablesDeli very good rotisserie chicken excellent!
Clean. Hardy sandwiches made to order. Excellent customer service.
Clean, well laid out supermarket. The preprepared foods are excellent.
:) love this store so much every thing is always so fresh
Better chain market than Stop &Shop.
Very cautious due to virus, good job
Above average grocery store with a good bakery lots of prepared foods and a good butcher.
Excellent store. Very clean and large aisles.
Big Y in Guilford is one of the smaller Big Y stores, right next to the second smallest Walmart in America, and thus has to sacrifice shelf space and you feel it. In the summertime, you dont see New England style hotdog buns (Used to. Not any more.), even when you request them. The donut/pastry case selection is really small as are the fish and deli counters. The meats are another thing; I have yet to get a tender rib eye and buy them to cut up and pressure cook them for chili. Even higher end, pricier steaks are often tough to the point where I now buy everything but cold cuts at the Ferraros meat market satellite in Madison (which is much cheaper and way better). There are a number of very nice people at the Big Y and customer service is top rate. Plus, you CAN NOT beat the buy one, get two free specials (over the years Ive, literally, saved hundreds on baby back ribs alone) that cover several items each week. Along with the 7% discount for seniors on Tuesdays (used to be 10% but Big Y got small there) and the reoccurring weekly sales on a ton of items (stock up on the blue dot, 4 for twenty dollars meat specials), you can save a LOT of cash if you shop wisely.
Huge, but friendly, helpful staff help you navigate.
One of my favorite food stores.
Great Hot Dogs and pretty good Sea Food!
Sourdough bread is very hard to find in this store. Besides that, this store has many products at good prices that can support good gut health.
I love the aggressive pricing and positive marketing.
