Outstanding! Love, love, love, love The Purple Cow! We ordered 6 vegan and 6 regular donuts. My wife was in charge and got everyones (me and the kids) order the night before. She emailed our order in around 8 PM the night before. We got an email about 1:30 AM that our donuts would be ready to pickup at 8:30 AM. Thankfully they had some tables and chairs in the front of the building and I didnt have to devour my donuts in the car. I would have tried and I would have made a huge mess. I just cant describe how good the vegan donuts were. Everyone loved their donuts! Very cool place, cool owner and the donuts are outstanding. My wife enjoys her Purple Cow shirt!

This is the ONLY donut shop on the island. Absolutely mooo-tastic! Great donuts and coffee cake! Pro tip: Order the day before to grantee donuts for your family pick up. She usually sells out by 8am.

My wife and I visited the Purple Cow last week during our vacay on HHI. My wife is a vegan and was looking for a great vegan dessert spot. This spot makes homemade vegan donuts which did not disappoint! We didn’t know about ordering ahead of time so we walked in (super clean business) and placed an order. After 15 minutes, my wife had a box of hot vegan donuts that looked better than anything else. We chatted a bit with the owner (who told us she was originally from NY- so are we) and she gave my wife some recommendations for vegan spots around the island. Super friendly and will definitely be back when we revisit HHI next spring. Definitely check this place out, whether you’re a vegan or not- sweets all looked SO good!

This was a fun stop on our trip and we tried lots of their desserts between the 4 of us. Our favorites were the chocolate chip cookie and the muffins. We got there close to closing so our treats weren’t incredibly fresh. The people that work here and the owner were incredibly kind and helpful. We had the best time chatting with them and they never made us feel like we were there near closing. The owner was prepping a s’mores charcuterie board for an evening event around the fire pit and it looked AMAZING! Fun place with a rich heritage.

Great donut and pastry shop on HHI. We went first thing in the morning and really enjoyed the visit. The cinnamon rolls were heavenly -so fresh and flavorful. Don’t let the washed out colors of my picture fool you, the donuts were vibrant and decadent. We also enjoyed a plain iced latte, good espresso IMO contrary to other reviews.

The cookies were best. could not explore more as the shop were closing.

Seems odd whenever you go there they always have a “sold out” sign on there door, however they say on their website each donut is made to order. Are they running out of sugar and flour? I don’t think they make them to order, and they seem to struggle with being able to manage enough supplies to carry them throughout the day. If you’re looking for vegan donuts, I highly recommend the whole foods right down the street! You can get 6 of them for $6 and they’re vegan and delicious!!

Best place for desserts! The hot chocolate bombs during the holidays are an awesome addition to add to your traditions! The cookies & icing kits are wonderful as well. Can’t wait to try many other wonderfully made treats here

The owner seems to be having a difficult time finding dependable employees. They were an hour late getting our order together today, and there were a few mistakes on our order as well. The owner (or manager, not sure) was very apologetic and gave us our order for free. The donuts tasted delicious. I felt bad for her because it’s so hard finding employees who will show up on time. Give this company a chance. Hopefully they’ll find better employees soon. The donuts tasted great!

We travel across the entire state to come here. The beaches are secondary to this place 😋. Always amazing coffee and food. The Purple Cow is the best part of Hilton Head.

We were excited to try these donuts after reading reviews and were happy they had gluten free donuts. Ordered six donuts and placed our order the night before as website suggests. Six donuts were $18. I knew they were baked and not fried but they were disappointing. They were dry and the edges were crispy (almost burned). The glaze was good. Overall, disappointing and I wont be driving 20 minutes from South Beach again for these. Wish them the best in these times which are difficult for food service folks.

Such a great little place for coffee and donuts. When we arrived they had run out of most everything but made us what we wanted and it was worth the wait!

Visited this amazing bakery on my birthday and it was a wonderful treat. First time in Hilton Head, and this will be a tradition on future visits! The lady running this place is amazing and the donuts are delicious! The other donut shop on the island closed the day before we visited and she handled it remarkably by working an insane amount of hours to meet her customers needs. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Just spreading some love to a wonderful lady and establishment! This place is amazing and so is the owner, she always remembers her customers and is an active and crucial part of the Islands community. Bobby and I miss stopping by and will try to come see the new shop soon! No other desserts compare!!! Hopfully this attracts only the best people and none of the haters :)

I normally dont write reviews but in this case I have to share my thoughts. The customer experience in this place is horrendous. Right from the beginning the person in charge (who I assume is the owner) was working on several requests at the same time and seemed very disorganized. There was no menu or obvious way that orders would be taken. The owner repeatedly offered verbal instruction but we had to learn from other folks in line what the process was supposed to be. We also had to use our phones to see what the options were. Since we ordered one of the menu items that takes time to prepare, we had plenty of time soak in the experience. It was very disturbing to hear how the owner spoke to her staff. Since the entire staff is seen working behind the counter, her berating of her staff could be seen and heard by everyone in the shop. Furthermore, when another customer arrived to pick up her order and it was nowhere to be found, the owner barked to her staff that they should steal from other orders and make it up later. The experience was extremely stressful to watch. We were hoping to have a fun breakfast experience and it was so stressful we could not wait to leave. We were prepared to leave before our order was fulfilled but suddenly our order was ready to go. When we finished paying the owner loudly exclaimed have wonderful day ladies as if her sudden pleasant demeanor would make a difference. Horrendous and extremely upsetting. I hope that this feedback is helpful to the owner and that the business is successful. It is a great concept but the execution leaves something to be desired.

Very nice people. Giving two stars because the atmosphere was very friendly, but the coffee was terrible. Wish we would’ve gone to Starbucks if we paid over Starbucks prices ($5/$6) for very mediocre coffee. Employees had to ask how to even make the drink, and even with the help it was thrown away after one sip. Had very high hopes because I love supporting local businesses, and I had originally guessed that they were good at making coffee as it is on their sign. Maybe the donuts are better, but the coffee needs major work.

Such a yummy breakfast find in hilton head!! Had the scone, small Bundt, a donut muffin, and a muffin !! All delicious!! Only downside, we had the iced latte with hazelnut, and it was a sugar free syrup … That was the only negative !! Will just ask next time we go back !!

Boy oh boy are there some high maintenance jerks on here writing one-star reviews. You can take it from me they are full of themselves and also full of something else, lol. The Owner is totally cool, and returns respect to all. Plus I know she works herself TO THE BONE to provide amazing treats with super flaky workforce due to how the vacation city tends to work. If you want your ego stroked by a corporate drone, go to Starbucks. If you want authentic treats from an authentic baker, go here!! Pay attention to all the 5 star reviews, not the few one stars who need to share their personal shortcomings with their therapist, not this page, ha!!

Donuts were amazing and the cinnamon rolls were delicious! We loved everything we ate there. The owner took time to explain which each item was and you can tell she puts her heart & soul into her business and making some fantastic tasting treats. Sure there was a line but we were in and out within 15 minutes even without preordering. Check this place out for desserts too- I was unaware of all they offered. Will definitely go back next time we are at HHI.

The Purple Cow has amazing donuts, great service, and a friendly atmosphere. You can tell the owner truly cares about her business and goes above and beyond in product and service. We were so excited about all the vegan options available and they did not disappoint!! A must for every HHI visit!

Super disappointed about our visit here! Based on the reviews we may have had too high of expectations, but honestly they weren’t met even a little bit. We got a muffin, little cheesecake, and a mocha since they were out of most of their donuts that morning. The baked goods were fine-probably on par with Fresh Market. The mocha was not drinkable and was thrown away after one sip....it just tasted like lukewarm milk with film on it. Since we are from out of town, we probably won’t get the chance to give them a second chance. I would like to believe it was just an off day because the 2 ladies working there were super nice! I’m guessing their donuts may be the showstopper here...wish we could have tried them!

We got there right before closing. We bought several items and enjoyed a few of them. We wished we would have gotten a discount on the items since several of them were dry. Overall the items were expensive and moderately good.

We ordered doughnuts online for our daughters birthday. The earliest delivery was at 9:15am so we waited for the order. A message came that the restaurant had confirmed the order and updated the delivery time for 10 minutes late. 10 minutes later a message.came saying the order had been cancelled. We waited 1.5 hours for our daughters birthday breakfast and then it was cancelled with no explanation. We went out to find something else and all the lines were extremely long. We picked up eggs at the grocery store and had breakfast at 10:30. We are very disappointed. They should not have taken the order or it should not have been told. Then they confirmed and then cancelled.

If youre in or around Hilton Head, you MUST stop by the Purple Cow! Amazing treats that are sure to satisfy everyones palate. The changing menu justifies stopping by on a regular basis without feeling guilty. The owner is absolutely lovely and ensures each customer has a positive experience. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. This charming eatery is a must try if you havent already! And if you have, its worth going back for something new and different!

This place was awesome. Pretty decent prices and some unique ice cream flavors. The cocktails were a bit pricey, but thats everywhere you go in a touristy area. I got some apple cider with a shotnof whiskey in it, which is really good and if youre in Hilton Head for the winter, try it! The lady who owns the place was really nice too. Definitely a place to visit in Hilton Head. Oh, also, theres pictures of cows all over the place in there which is fitting for the name. Some of them are hilarious and some are terrifying, so I put pictures below!

The Purple Cow has such a fun atmosphere and serves the most delicious food! I love the mini cheesecakes, donuts, milkshakes, and all of Bernies many treats. I love that I can order a vegan or gluten free donut! You can even get Smores for a group in the fire pit. The Purple Cow is a great addition to the Hilton Head dining options and I go there every time I visit.

Upon entry and while waiting for my doughnuts, I was greeted by a wealth of local art-colorful and creative, and for sale.Doughnuts are made in small quantities and flavors are varied, so check in daily.The best way to get your dozen is to order online, ahead! There are pastries, like peach hand pies and cherry/glaze topped poptarts- I brought home an assortment and used a knife to sample several. THEY ALSO OFFER GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS.Let me just say, I’m glad I sampled before my kids woke up because I expect nothing will be left by lunch time!!This owner and her crew work hard to bring you the freshest and best treats!GO SEE HER TODAY!

Very nice lady- but when we came to get our donuts, she said they didn’t have them done and it would be 20 more minutes. We came back to burnt and tough donuts. It was a waste of money, we couldn’t even eat them. Don’t waste your morning!

Let me tell you a few things to consider...1. It is a small local business. Support it. Businesses like this one make everything with love, they dont see you as dollar signs but as people that love what they love.2. I won 4 cakes you see in the picture below, from their Factbook where am I game they had recently. Creative. I ate two with my wife and we donated the other two. All four of us guve 5 STARS !!!3. Think. Ask. Learn. Why purple cow? Whats the meaning? What was she thinking? Well...the explanation is something really nice and something that helps the society we live in.I hope you will keep going, and make this island even better!

We love this place! Multiple visits each time we are on Hilton Head. We stay at the HH Motorcoach Resort which is walking distance. During this last visit, we bought two dozen donuts for our friends we play Pickleball with in the morning. Everyone groaned when we showed up with donuts and said they wouldn’t eat any. They were all gone in 15 minutes. The spunky owner even made a couple of custom gluten free versions that were awesome.

They only had fruit flavored doughnuts before 10 in the morning? I wanted a Butterfinger cupcake only to see the only 1 in the store go to a woman from VA in front of me

The most creative and tasty confections around. The owner makes it easy to get your hands on her delicious treats, even if you aren’t local! Select items can be shipped for your holidays or special events. I’ve ordered Baby Cakes cheesecakes for a business function and holidays at home as well as some special holiday treats I found on the Facebook page. Everything we’ve received is delicious and carefully packed for shipping. I suggest following the Facebook page for up to date information as the menu offerings change. The owner is super responsive to questions and requests online!

These donuts are worth the wait. They are baked to order so it takes a little longer than your average donut shop. But I’ve never had a better donut. The are light and fluffy and full f flavor. We tried six different combinations and there are so many more. We also tried the iced coffee which was delicious. To top it all off, the service was absolutely fabulous. They are so welcoming and inviting. It’s a place for locals and visitors alike. You won’t regret stopping here.

I get donuts and coffee every time I’m in Hilton Head. Made to order (which takes a little longer), and just about any combination that you can think of. Daily specials of quiche and pop tarts and other various pastries. I love it and recommend you check it out for yourself!

Signs on the door said not enough staff and you could only order online. It’s no wonder there isn’t enough staff. The owner, Lisa J Bernstein, is horrifically rude and severely unpleasant. She said “There’s nothing I can do for you today.” Well you definitely will not be given my money. And she replies to these reviews as “Sorry you felt that way.” It’s not my fault that you are awful, Lisa. You should be sorry for the way you act.

The Purple Cow is my new favorite place on the South End! I have been following The Purple Cow Facebook page and wanted to stop in for awhile. Had an opportunity to stop in and was immediately greeted by Lisa J Bernstein, making me feel comfortable and ready to explore the goodies. Her shop is amazing with indoor dining, plenty of space for social distancing, and a patio where I look forward to spending time. The Blueberry Muffin I ordered was literally the best Ive ever had. I loved the crumbles and the texture and it was surely made with love and care. The menu changes daily and I made a note of some things I want to try in the future, when available. I also want to note, and thank Lisa, for the hand sanitizer at the door and the masking requirement because it is the responsible thing to do. This shop is roomy, comfortable, friendly, has great sweets, offerings of beverages and bagged coffee, and is socially responsible. Lisa and The Purple Cow are truly leaders and understand what Hilton Head Island is about.

Oh boy! This place is awesome! They have multiple vegan and gluten free options. Along with everything else tasty you can imagine. Construct your own donuts with so many different choices - they make them while you wait. Great atmosphere. Sit down and chill with some evening drinks too! Stopped in this morning to grab some donuts after attempting to get donuts at 3 other locations without success. Immediately upon arriving there was signs posted on the door stating your wait depends on orders ahead of you. Options to pre order were clearly written. After entering we patiently waited and not long after was able to place our order. The owner was fantastic, took our assorted donut order, and gave us a time of completion (40 min). The owner explained there was 4 dozen donuts being made ahead of us and stated we would get a text when ready.There was 2 large inviting waiting areas both inside and outside. Before even making it to a waiting area, the the owner reapproached us and asked if we needed a coffee while we waited. I had forgotten my wife wanted a iced coffee and was glad she asked. After waiting, we received our donuts which were amazingly decorated and delicious. I would highly recommend the Purple Cow while visiting Hilton Head.

Women owned businesses rock! Bernie has this one down. Her sweets are fabulous. My favorites are the cheesecake, banana pudding, and donuts. Everything is fresh and yummy. The new location is very cute and they are following Covid precautions.Im glad I dont live close to this place, Id gain a lot of weight . I came in the other day for a latte, just to try something local, and it was excellent! Very glad I picked this place & will certainly go back when I need a pick me up for work!

Stopped by mid morning to grab some coffee and a snack. Settled on the iced mooocha and a drip coffee. Both drinks were good and of high quality. We also got a chocolate chip and toffee cookie - it was very very good. Should have bought 4. Nice chill vibe and the purple decor is fun and funky. Rocking chairs out front to sit on while you get your snack on.

I love that its open late so I can get my sweet tooth fix! They have some live music. Not bad. Delicious!!

Delicious bakery with a unique selection of custom doughnuts and other baked goods, with home made coffee. It is easily accessible on bike and has a clean and spacious outdoor patio. Come early because everything sells out quickly!

Bernie not only makes the best donuts, but she goes out of her way to try and serve everybody, even when it is a herculean task with the popularity of the shop. You never go wrong with anything they have, so even if what you wanted isnt available, you may find your next choice is your new favorite!

The owners were very nice and immediately stepped up to explain their pastries. The homemade poptarts were filled with berries. The grandmas cake was good. The coffee was really disappointing. We got four different drinks. Im not sure if the brew was made incorrectly but we ended up throwing out the coffees. It is really sad dumping $20+ of coffee. Maybe it was an off day.Update: I very much appreciate the offer to refund. We got coffee to go and take back to spouses and didnt drink them until we returned to our place about five miles away. Unfortunately, It would have been ten miles more of driviing.

We were excited to make our own donuts so our party of 3 rode up, filled out the form for 3 donuts and were told it would be ‘way over 20 minutes’ before they would be ready. Very poor system for people wanting just a donut - don’t waste your time here unless you want one of their pre-made bakery items.

All natural, homemade donuts. Need I say more. These treats were a mixture between a cake and a donut. I loved the natural taste of these yummy donuts. Id never tasted donuts like this before. I would definitely get some again if I were ever back in the area.They are very reasonably priced for being fresh made on the spot, all natural donuts.

Fun, laid back atmosphere. I had the coffee toffee cheesecake. DELISH! My husband had a strawberry banana smoothie. It taste good and was obviously fresh. Bernie, the owner, was super helpful and kind. Wed definitely be back if we are ever in the area again.

Had an awesome experience this morning. Great service and left there wanting to eat everything inside. Must try the breakfast in a jar. I had one with eggs, hash browns, spinach, cheese, and tomatoes baked fresh and another with fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, and nuts. Insanely tasty!

I loved the name and the place seemed cute but the costumer service was very terrible, I felt rushed and very uncomfortable the owner was rude and the coffee wasnt even that good.

Reviews of this place are good, and perhaps for food or cocktails it deserves it. But for the coffee, pass and just go to Starbucks or Dunkin. I got a 16 oz. iced latte for $5 (more than corporate coffee) and the quality was pretty bad. Watered down, weak coffee and more ice than anything else. Plus there was whipped cream that was frozen and clumpy I had to pick out of the drink as can be seen on the lid. For me this is a pass.

So delicious & packed with locals and vacationers alike! We got there just after 10pm to a nearly full house. We tried coconut cream pound cake w/ cinnamon ice cream, personal apple pie, hot fudge sundae with caramelized bananas, and Grandmas chocolate cake. Every bite of every one was just incredible! We ate & colored for an hour. So fun, but so yummy we didnt realize the failed to take pics if the desserts until they were gone. And as toy van see by our table cloth nary a morsel was missed! *HIGHLY* recommend. Well be back next time were in Hilton Head for sure!

I totally recommend this place! The deserts are great and made fresh. I got the Hot Fudge Ice Cream Sundae and a donut, the were amazing! This place is also plastic straw free which is great ;) Free WiFi, and family friendly. The place is a little small and service isn’t fast but it’s totally worth it. Everyone working is wonderful and so sweet! The decor is also very nice. 110% recommend :)

We went here on on the last day of our trip to Hilton head, and it was definitely worth it. We got the cinnamon donut with cinnamon ice cream and the chocolate cake. My family and I LOVE this place. Sat and had coffee, custom made donuts and fresh sandwiches while chatting with the owner Bernie. Shes a doll. Everything is fresh and made with real ingredients. Its named after a Doris Day song that mom used to sing to her. Stop in when you have time to sit and enjoy. Its not fast food.

Fantastic place for sweet treats! We visit Hilton Head for family vacation every year and luckily found this place a couple of years ago. The donuts are out of this world. You get to create your own custom flavors from a list of dough flavors, glaze flavors, and toppings. Bernie is always so kind and patient, as well!
